Floating shelves can enhance any area. For less than $10 you could make 3 all of these. The beauty of this is you can make them with no hardware. Dang this is so smart! The part with the drill and the dowel legitimately blew my mind. So smart but so obvious at the same time (thus I feel stupid for not thinking of it before)

And if you are worried about the dowels breaking then just add a couple more! Easy. Nice video, thank you.

Only thing easy about this was at 7:27

What would your thoughts be on using a 2x2 and a 2x8 so you don't have to make the long cut? Also, did you use Pine or Oak dowels?
Jam Rizvi (4 дня назад)
Good job, but it's not strong enough

Very good video, well put together production.. not sure whats up with the 833 thumbs down, they must have put a bunch of holes in the wall by doing it before watching a pro.. LOL. Great job

How would one make a floating shelf that is strong enough to double as a chin up bar? :) I mean I wanted floating shelf to use as a book shelve. Can you make a shelf that supports say 50 lbs? (assuming that all screws in the mount are screwed into drywall.

Simply brilliant. Looks clean neat & AWESOME. Clear instructions. I just love it. A job so well done.

Could this concept apply to a floating behind couch table?

Man, really nice video and easy to follow. I like the way you created the shelf with no real hardware like a French cleat...Very nice!

Great video, easy to follow...👍🏻

Was thinking of using 12mm rebar for the dowels for weight concerns
Michael Adamson (5 дней назад)
The wall anchors would likely fail before even a poplar dowel would..
Ulisses Hoill (9 дней назад)
The mounting solution for this is genius! Diffidently want to try this for displaying my figure collection.
jessi330 (9 дней назад)
Using the speed square to guide the circular saw straight and putting the dowels in the drill and using sandpaper are really great tips! The shelves look great.

Thank YOU!!! What a great video!!! As a minimalist, I've wanted to put shelves on my bedroom wall to hold my folded clothes. This is perfect. Great idea. Was toying with the idea of having cedar 2x4's but I don't need that. This was a super presentation.
Mariel Packard (15 дней назад)
Holy cow, this is a seriously awesome method! It's so well-explained and it's something that I feel like I could do!

That was incredible and I’m a woman. I’m an Italian woman that can cook. Nothing like a man with some brains and know how. Sure some smart women snatched him up already. Lol very creative!
Jeremy Lee (18 дней назад)
Nice work. How much weight can this system hold?
Alen Ramic (18 дней назад)
Great video man, but I wonder how much weight those wooden dowels can support. They kind of look weak and I would replace those with something metal
twes619 (19 дней назад)
Weight capacity with these shelves?

Great DIY.. Very clear! One of the few videos that a regular DIYer can do because they own regular power tools and not $10,000. in machines like the professionals posing as DIYers have... LOL! BTW, A few people on here are saying they're going to do this for their kitchen. How much weight can these shelves hold???
B Lockhart (22 дня назад)
Nice. Thanks
Jo Shaw (22 дня назад)
OMG - this is so great. I've been looking for a clear and concise way to create some for my bathroom. You Rock!
Dave Kim (23 дня назад)
Winner. Your floating shelf is the most efficient with the simplest tools and best explained with practical tips that can be applied to so many other projects. Not taking any credit away from other contenders because they all made excellent videos with great ideas too.
Jay Pocket (24 дня назад)
Great tutorial, man. The design is very straightforward, but I most appreciate how succinctly you conceptualized the various components and processes, quickly mitogating the questions that people might have instantly and intelligently. This was some BOSS content you created here, overall. Thanks for the lesson. I subbed the channel because of the authentic craftsman approach toward the carpentry instruction which came through the floating shelves technique. Cheers!

This is a great idea. I'm using a 2x10 with 3/4 dowels for floating book shelves. I'm cutting down the sides in a table saw to make the shelves 8.5" wide to accommodate some of the books. For those who dont know, a 2x10 is 9.5" wide and a 2x8 is 7.5".
thePiratePimp (25 дней назад)
Damn, this is an awesome video! Thanks for sharing!
Hephaestus (25 дней назад)
Very well explained and excellent editing of the video. A bit more work than necessary but I’ve got to give this video 9.9/10. The narration is also excellent. Quality of video is top notch.
Miko (26 дней назад)
how is this less than $10?
Lydia Johnson (26 дней назад)
Thank you Mr. Creator. I am going to make a floating shelves for my bathroom. Your is the best way. Again thank you Lydia Johnson from Chicago
Isai Castro (26 дней назад)
Im confused. At around 4:55 you say to put a screw through the dowel to make it tight but then you take it apart i dont get it
Repprobate (25 дней назад)
He is preinstalling the screw before finishing the wood with stain. The screw is there to prevent the shelf from being pulled off when mounted. You would install the back part on the wall, slide the shelf over the dowels and then install the screw to hold the shelf to the wall bracket.

Hi friends, if you intend on using the saw yourself please do NOT use gloves when sawing... Gloves are prone to getting caught in the blade and dragging your fingers and hand into the blade... So go ahead and saw like the gentleman did in the video, just go slow and be careful and do it without gloves
Dbeaumont Resident (27 дней назад)
This was the BEST video I've found on youtube for floating shelves! The way you speak, the way you explain, makes me feel very confident I can do this! thank you so much! I liked and subscribed!
Matt Wellbelove (27 дней назад)
Really nice idea and execution. Think there should probably be a warning though that these are only decorative and couldn't withstand any real weight.
sh0cktim3 (14 дней назад)
Yoy be surprised these should easily hold 50lbs. More than enough for most use cases. Just get screws in the studs.
geraci89 (27 дней назад)
My shelves sag a fair bit. Is it possible the dowels were just sanded too much?
Pablo Lopez (27 дней назад)
This was really well done and thought out. And I appreciate that.
daniel nichevo (29 дней назад)
Awesome video! Thank you. You explained the whole process so clearly. Floating shelves had always been such a mystery to me until now. Nice work!

awesome tutorial! Love your voice, what accent is that?
marasim08 (1 месяц назад)
Curious, what grain did you choose for sanding before stain?
soundboy89 (1 месяц назад)
How do you make sure that the large holes for the dowels remain perfectly square while drilling them freehand?
ScreenPrintR (1 месяц назад)
Oh, one tip: To cut the stock lengthwise, you could clamp on a 1" x 6" as a guide or maybe a long piece of aluminum.
ScreenPrintR (1 месяц назад)
I just have to add a second comment. Awesome, very simple, and you explained it perfectly. Kudo's to you.
ScreenPrintR (1 месяц назад)
This is awesome. Finally, someone who makes things with Hand power tools. This way we don't have to invest $100,000 in tools like those guys who mean well, but try to make the video look like DIY. Thank you for the video.
