Millionaire Basement Wars BBC Documentary 2015 - Landmass London Property Development

Оценок: 916 | Просмотров: 203736
Luxury Interior Designer and Property Developer Landmass London feature where the super-rich are maximizing property value in the heart of London as never before. http://www.landmass.co.uk/ But they're not building up, they're digging down, creating mega-basements or 'iceberg homes' - nicknamed because there's more square footage under the ground than above. Over the last ten years an estimated 2000 new basements have been dug in central London. Into these multi-level subterranean structures owners are building anything from cinemas, swimming pools, beauty parlours, squash courts, wine cellars and servants' quarters. Some take as long as three years to complete. As well as the noise of the digging, fleets of concrete mixers and lorries taking away the dug soil service the sites. So life for neighbours in some of London's poshest addresses has been hell. As the Royal Borough of Kensington Council responds to angry residents and tries to regulate the number of mega-basements and the disruption they cause, this BBC film goes behind the hoardings to look inside the extraordinary structures and talk to builders, owners and irate neighbours to tell the story of the conflict that has gripped the millionaires and gold-paved streets of London's smartest postcodes. http://www.landmass.co.uk/

I wonder how did the Arab Manal with the exotic accent and her husband earned their fortune from? A wealthy Arab in London most of the time means that the money was fleeced off,as London is notoriously known as a safe heaven for big-time foreign thieves.

Surely if you're rich enough to have a house in a street where construction is going on, you'd just go stay in the country or another pad
Kian Siong (6 месяцев назад)
i guess might do soemthing like ' no more than 2 on the same street at the saem time ' or only 1 counstruction is only allowed on 1 side of the street' , something like that

Unfortunately the same is happening to these middle class people as the social cleansing has to poorer familes in London. Not right at all but this is what happens when the few super rich become to greedy for capitalism . Very few winners !

Stop fucking up our country. Fuck off back to where you belong. England was built in simplicity for the real people. You pompous fukkers are destroying our country. You rob your own countries then rob our childrens futures. Remember when you die, you'll be six feet under, in the same soil as everyone else. Unless you decide to have your body taken back to your own country! Stop destroying glorious England!

Echoes quite a lot during the 8:57 part. Is it because of all the stonework and lack of soft furnishings? Or is it typical to have acoustical challenges underground?

A word to the BBC. Drop the annoying, idiotic and highly childish sounding 'plucked violin' music in all your documentaries. It's been done to death and is highly irritating. Less is more, and using this incredibly annoying 'muzak' all the way through a programme shows very little in the way of creative production values. If you want anyone to become adviser to the BBC on such matters, look no further.

Goodness!. It's actor Stanley Meadows at 29:30. Significant actor from British cinema in films like The Ipcress File and television programmes like Lew Grade's ITC dramas, The Avengers and Persuaders! I am sure his wife Annabel is or maybe was in rep. and television too. I remember my time at Peter Jones in Sloane Square, eventually working freelance in the area to many clients back in the 1990's (to present day) at how this generation felt the Royal Borough was slipping away from them to the vulgarity of OTT development from overseas investments. Take a walk up Sloane Street beyond Tite Street and you no longer feel you have any right to be there; such is the feeling of intimidation with blacked-out limo's and gilt-edged 'serious people' dressed in black.

Cookie Monster (2 года назад)
I say they should allow 2-3 story basements but with the safeguards mentioned to mitigate potential damage. Also adjusting the hours of the dirt truck to say 6/7 am before folks start their day and disallow of common times when people go to work school and return home would help.
Cookie Monster (2 года назад)
Yep, looking at 32:00-about 35:00 shows the need to have funds in escrow and insurance on surrounding properties in case of unintended damage. As millions are being spent a bit more for protection and peace of mind would be a good thing... The question is will the folks in London do anything about it or just complain?
Cookie Monster (2 года назад)
Very nice basement at 5:10, with the additions. I have to wonder how many stories down is the max for a basement? Is there a limit of 3-4 stories and do the funds need to be put into escrow for structural engineering protection of the home, surrounding home and street? If constriction stops mid renovation you have quite an unstable structure.

Something she claims she'll only need for a couple of years. It's amazing. These houses have housed much larger families for centuries. You're an idiot mate. Did you not watch the documentary? Most of these people don't even have mortgages and their wealth accumulates without them even having to do anything. When experts talk about 'bubbles' they aren't talking about the high end of the market, they're talking about the idiot postman or van driver who took out a mortgage he couldn't afford, to satisfy his nagging wife, all egged on by the idiot broker who told them 'house prices will always go up', so he could get his commission. Or the wannabe, flash teacher or office worker trying to keep up with their mates and neighbours. There has NEVER been a 'bubble' that has affected houses prices over £1m. Never in our history. It is all at the lower to middle range of the market. These people have money because they know how to get it and how to use it. These 'rich fuckers', as you put it will always be fine, every time there's a crash they are the only ones with the money to buy everything up... then when it all comes around again they sell at higher prices to the middle class idiots I've already mentioned. The only thing that changes is how jealous people like you get.

batt3ryac1d (1 год назад)
Yes Owen and the reason the property values are so high is because investment groups buy up all the houses. It's a huge property bubble and it will crash down on the rich fuckers in 10 years or so like it has the last 50 times it happened in other cities and countries.

With the climate change predictions, London will be one of the target-cities that would be underwater. In such events, and if predictions were proven to have been correct, I cannot see any friends visiting their rich friends who have HUGE basements for entertainment, enjoying all this luxury. Instead, they will be enjoying EXPENSIVE nightmares.
Tim Peake (1 год назад)
Assuming London retains its current financial status as one of the wealthiest cities in the world this will never happen. The Thames barrier was designed to prevent water levels rising during high tides and large storm swells and theres no reason why something more substantial cant be engineered in the future should it be needed prevent London becoming an aquatic reef.
