Trying to learn woodworking as a hobby via the internet is absolute torture when you're broke. I'm thinking "Hmm, well a box is usually a good project for beginners. This has no top or bottom or hinges... Should be even more simple, right?" I know we don't NEED badass industrial-grade equipment like this guy has, but it's kind of discouraging to watch. For a broke beginner, I was proud of my little workshop. This makes me want to go to IKEA... Or take 4 planks with some wood glue & clamps and call it a freaking day.

Nice boxes! But The bottom side is not flush to wall, this may cause the shelf to lean slope do to weight and lead to it crashing causing injuries and damage, what can u do to fix this issue?
TheDreamer (9 дней назад)
I kinda wished you moved the bottom shelf a bit (or a whole length) so you can put something above it, in case the object cannot fit inside. :)

Thank you for explaining how to make them with hand power tools like a Circular Saw and the type of wood to buy that's already has a straight edge. I have a Circular saw, router, drill, sander, and a pocket jig. I love to see someone like yourself make a video with these types of tools. I've also have been looking at Craigslist for used tools. Thank you again, and everyone else reading this, don't get discouraged. If you're serious about wood working, take a loan to buy the tools you need. At that point you jump right in to a serious business, and have to push yourself to succeed. You wear all hats in the business. I did this with screen printing and had to learn to sell. Started with friends, family and church.

Where is the best place to buy these equipments ?
David Eggen (1 месяц назад)
How would you modify this if it was going to be a floating media center? Where you would put things like a cable box, game console, etc.
Crafted Workshop (1 месяц назад)
Hmm, I would make them just deep enough to hold whatever you need, but I'm not sure this is the hardware you'd want to use for something like that. It'd be too deep at that point.

I would use french cleat to hang, easy to make and removable or just buy the hardware ready to go.
Crafted Workshop (2 месяца назад)
I think a French cleat would probably space it off the wall too much.

As I said, most of the tools I used in this build were for milling the rough lumber. Start with pre-milled lumber and this could easily be built with a circular saw and drill.

sometimes wonder what the target market is for videos like this people with thousands of dollars worth of saws, thicknessers and assorted tools.gadgets already know how to do this. Those without , and who probably need help, wont get much out of it and may even be discouraged. Its almost like showing off for its own sake
Crafted Workshop (6 месяцев назад)
As I mentioned several times in the video, this equipment is only necessary if you’re using rough lumber. Woodworking techniques can apply regardless of what tools you have.

I love the video! I'm an aspiring beginner woodworker (as in I'm still learning the names of tools and terminology). I've been collecting nice walnut boards to create box shelves as my 1st ever project. Your video was very informative and helped me determine what skills and tools I need to acquire. I especially liked the brilliant trick you used to get the shelves level by using pressure to create an indent in the drywall! Question: What's the name of the edge style you created with your router? I wasn't able to decipher it but I think you said chamfer? Thanks!
Crafted Workshop (6 месяцев назад)
That’s awesome, hope you have fun woodworking! Yes, the edge profile was a chamfer, it’s probably my favorite.
Scott Hillberry (6 месяцев назад)
Clean result! You mentioned that the dowel jig slipped a little, which caused some alignment issues when you pieced the sides together. How did you resolve that?
Crafted Workshop (6 месяцев назад)
I ran the whole thing over my jointer to flatten it out once assembled. Worked great!

The project is simple and doesn't require a lot of woods. The problem about all project with woods is needing a complete equipment to start and finish the job. If you don't have at least 2000 dollars in equipment ( I mean serious equipment) you can't make a Little project like this.
Crafted Workshop (9 месяцев назад)
I disagree. If you buy pre-milled lumber, you could build this with under $300 of tools.
goodie7415 (9 месяцев назад)
It seems to me that those shelves would not fit flush to the wall using those shelf supports unless you cut a mortise on the back of them to receive the shelf support. Am I missing something? They look very nice though and it is great to see someone use dowel joints. I will have to try the Waterlox.
Crafted Workshop (9 месяцев назад)
You are definitely right, but they only sit off of the wall about ⅛". You definitely could cut a recess for them, though. Thanks!
Alexandre Silva (9 месяцев назад)
Most people don't have those expensive toys. You should teach using more handworking rather than machine work.
