HK...promises so much, yet delivers so little. Expensive AF.

Cool city but seems very artificially blown up by money. I hate cities where normal people cant live normally anymore. It seems to be making all the mistakes London made. After all its built based on the British mentality. I prefer Singapore or Bangkok or maybe even Tokyo.
John C (3 days ago)
From the video title I assumed it would be about upcoming or recently developed neighborhood. Situated right at the harbour, TST has been “hottest” for decades already, hence all the underdeveloped pictures shown here are in black and white.

It's very weird to separate Hong Kong Island and Kowloon as two places (which actually they're). The fact that Tsim Sha Tsui or the Kowloon Peninsula was developed is because the signing of the treaty of Peking, which ceased Kowloon Peninsula to the British. Nowadays, both Hong Kong Island & Kowloon Peninsula are extremely crowded (especially Kowloon, according to government census, the population density is higher than Hong Kong Island). Hong Kong mainly develop New Territories to solve the problem, not Kowloon.
Patrick Kong (20 days ago)
I'm a resident in Hong Kong. If anything, I personally do not recommend going to aqua HK or the Chinese restaurant before that. This is due to astronomically high prices there and sure you may argue that the view is nice, you can go to tst harbour and soak up the view there either by the traditional ferry which costs next to nothing or just standing there and absorbing the view as well as the fresh smell of the sea. Hong Kong is a nice place to stay but just beware of the heat and the density of the area, if you do come to Hong Kong, I would recommend visiting places like Mong Kok or Causeway bay if you would like to shop for either normal or high end brands. Have a good one.
文子MtzCherry (21 days ago)
sad that the video didn't mention much about the cultural stuff we can find in TST and only focus on the price...
tocrob (20 days ago)
文子MtzCherry - but is it unique? The price is unique because HK is among the most expensive. A public golf course with stunning views in HK (Kau Sai Chau) is definitely unique ... https://youtu.be/sZDP7rCv160

The rapidly rising Hong Kong air pollution has recently become a major issue, and Hong Kong has quickly become one of the worst polluted places on earth. In addition to emissions from its local motor vehicles, marine vessels and power plants, Hong Kong's air pollution is mainly contributed by deadly air pollution from mainland China.

Aaron Newell- Tutu (24 days ago)
STC I guess you have now. Like I stated it's done to give name to a region. They're not merged politically. Heres a short article to explain more. https://brilliantmaps.com/usa-mega-regions/
STC (24 days ago)
Aaron Newell- Tutu I never hear mega city merge with another mega city.
Aaron Newell- Tutu (24 days ago)
Megacities actually do get merged the only thing is that it's done to give name to an urban region. For example Boston, NYC, Philly, D.C. and their surrounding suburbs are in what's called the Bos-Wash region.
STC (24 days ago)
Hummm you don't just merge megacities just because they are close, now how governments works.

J C (24 days ago)
+tocrob I know the govt does a lot social services-wise, but these sights are still staggering in contrast to the opulence and it leaves me, like anyone who has a heart, wondering about the reasons for such a situation happening. That is all
Horace Wong (24 days ago)
In fact, some of them are richer than u
tocrob (25 days ago)
J C - we don't know the real story. Some may not be "legal" resident , banned from social/public housing (possible?) or too wealthy( assets ). That elderly person would receive ~USD400.00 per month from the government and a subsidized rental flat for USD$50-$100 per month from the housing authority. Transports, senior activities and typical healthcare services get additional subsidies which make them virtually free.

trust me you dont wanna live here if you are fucking poor lol. HK has the highest relative poverty rate in the world, the highest gini coeffient. Yea its fine just being a tourist you can't afford anything if you work and live here unless you are the capitalist class. Go visit sham shui po/SSP not fucking TST to see the real side of HK where you will see old people pushing trolleys of trash and selling them for PENNIES (not even kidding) while the HK government (which has some of the highest amount of financial reserves) chose not to take care of these eldery ppl. TST is for mainland tourists craving for Dior and LVs of the world. The city is dying and turning into another Chinese city controlled by the communist party. The young generation is all dying to leave the city and emmigrate once they can saved up some money. These touristy videos are great but if you wanna know the real side of the city you got a long way to go son.

Huai Scrblol (24 days ago)
People in HK speak Cantonese, so if you go there I'd recommend learning Traditional Chinese rather than the simplified Chinese you used to type that sentence. Of course, this is optional. I live in HK and I'm terrible at Cantonese. There are usually english translations for everything, except for some restaurant menus.

Patrick A. I like how a British is hired to narrate and he is quick to mention that HK was colonized by Britain, just so that others don't forget . Pathetic losers, UK is completely irrelevant little 3rd world shithole today, HK is 2 times richer thats why poor UK migrants are flocking to uk to do labor work for pennies

Dennis Chen (12 days ago)
Actually there is a lot which needs to be "fixed" in HK. It's dirty, many old run down buildings, many parts still resemble the 3rd world, people smoke and spit everywhere. To be honest, major cities on the mainland like Shanghai in my opinion are much cleaner than HK. People there are less rude as well. But I do like that HKers are more genuine. Unlike when I lived in Japan, people there are so fake.
Ernest Tsim (18 days ago)
Hong Kongers won't call themselves Chinese. The city was successfully developed from a remote island to a financial hub thanks to the British Empire and the Hong Kongers themselves. China simply inherited this fortune in 1997. Yes Hong Kongers are Chinese by race, but it doesn't mean the country of China can take credit for the city's prosperity.
