I am weeping for the pharmaceutical industry. I am a pharmacist with a "severe" scientific background, but please stop this unbelievable nonsense about the industry working for the good of human mankind…. some decades ago this might have been a point and for the ones who actually "invent" new medicine that still might be an inspirational agent… but the CEO´s please dont mention it... otherwise i might have to throw up……….
Georg Helpenstein-Michels (7 дней назад)
every kind of medicine uses the human mind to function in a optimal way. I would say that probably a factual non functional homoepathic remedy might work better in the hands of a versatile healthcare taker than a proven medicine in the hands of a moron. And to a certain degree this is proven. If you take the human "spirit" out of the equation homeopathy is probably nonsense if you take it in its a way to make some humans happy and that might help their bodies to get better

Is it German? Apparently, Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann (German: [ˈhaːnəman]; 10 April 1755 – 2 July 1843) was a German physician, best known for creating the pseudoscientific system of alternative medicine called homeopathy.

Homeopathy is so useless that thousands in the Third World get paid to watch these videos and make nasty comments. Given most normal people don't actually seek out videos of something they think is rubbish.
Conventional science has the tendency to be quite conservative in accepting novel ideas, particularly those that break with long and well-founded theories, insisting (not unreasonably) that extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. But … It taxes one's credulity to think that for nearly 200 years every practitioner and patient of homeopathy has, as its opponents expressly and repeatedly point out, been consistently either wrong in their reporting of methods and results, intentionally lying, stupid, or delusional. Indeed, would it not be more rational to assume that in homeopathy, we have met a phenomenon that we neither understand nor can explain given our present state of scientific knowledge? Perhaps it may be that as yet we lack the technology to assess it accurately: perhaps our instruments of measurement are insufficiently sophisticated. It is certainly true that to date, the field of homeopathy has failed to provide an explanation for its mechanism. The hypotheses for the mechanism of action are naturally often thought by proponents to be biophysical rather than pharmacological because the substance is diluted beyond Avogadro’s number, but this failure to elaborate an underlying mechanism seems to bear no relationship to its success in practice. It is simply untrue, as its opponents repeatedly claim, that there is a lack of quality research documenting its clinical efficiency. One very recent study showed a statistically significant alteration of gene expression by a homeopathic dilution of Gelsemium sempervirens, a medicinal plant employed as an anxiolytic. Another study which was a prospective randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled study in adults showing homeopathic potassium dichromate decreased tenacious tracheal secretions and resulted in earlier extubation in intubated COPD patients compared to controls. A more recent prospective, observational, longitudinal study of individualized homeopathic medicines used adjunctively in 30 children with asthma showed statistically significant improvement in severity, frequency of nocturnal asthma attacks or awakenings, use of inhalers and oral corticosteroids, as well as pulmonary function test parameters at 3 and 6 months. A current review article on homeopathic research in the treatment of respiratory allergies and asthma reviewed evidence from controlled trials that were deemed to be of high quality. The authors concluded that homeopathy may offer possible options to conventional treatment of respiratory allergies and asthma. There were 288 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of homeopathy published as of 2013, of which 45% were positive, 45% inconclusive, and less than 10% negative. To dismiss homeopathy out of hand because we cannot grasp it's mechanics - to assume that all of the scientific discoveries to be made have been made - seems not only irrational and unscientific, but expressly anti-scientific.

Don't underestimate the placebo effect. Scientists can't explain how that works either. It's the reason double blind tests are done. Prescription drugs kill thousands every year.

If you ignore the many hundreds of double blind studies, some of which have been published in the most respected medical journals, then you are not advocating for science but for your personal prejudices. Emotional fervor, a sense of righteousness and a sciencier than thou attitude are appealing, especially when backed by the current authorities. But when you ignore evidence that points in other directions, you are not really practicing science, you are pretending science. Here is an article by a Nobel scientist who is looking at some of the actual research. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/dana-ullman/luc-montagnier-homeopathy-taken-seriously_b_814619.html You don't have to believe homeopathy works but if you never can examine evidence contrary to your own beliefs then you can hardly be considered impartial to truth or scientific.
Jbirtwisle (5 месяцев назад)
Maybe I'm missing something but can someone please explain what professor Dawkins means when he says "that to get one molecule of the active substance, you 'd have to imbibe all the atoms in the solar system". Surely if you did that you would end up with every molecule in the solar system, which would be a great number?
Tommy Dies (5 месяцев назад)
Honestly, the power of the placebo is underrated by both homeopathics, who deny it exists, and normal doctors, who insist on using actual drugs. The placebo is a "drug" that has zero side effects, and most experimental drugs fail to perform better than it in clinical trials! How are we not using this amazing "drug"? Placebos should genuinely be considered in healthcare for minor afflictions, where doctors are literally paid to lie to patients and tell them this "drug" will cure their minor illness, especially to replace things like antibiotics, which are far too commonly prescribed.

Citizen #00293764 (6 месяцев назад)
Reality is more mysterious than the materialism theory gives credit. If the double slit experiment tells us that reality isn't there until it is observed, doesn't that mean we create our reality? Can you see the error, the fundamental error. You thought it took a long time for them to accept the sun was the centre of the solar system, a few hundred years after it was first suggested. Try seeing how long it takes for science to realise that the observer and the observed are very much connected.

Since more dilution makes a stronger medicine, how could anyone ever need to refill a prescription ever? Just keep adding water to the last drop in the bottle. But be careful, it gets stronger every time!

Can homeopathy stop conception?
R. Crompton (6 месяцев назад)
I suffered from chronic allergies to certain types of grasses beginning in the late 1950's. My parents were then advised by a MD specialist that I should try weekly injections of a special serum that hopefully, would control the problem. It didn't. Essentially, the serum was an experimental, homeopathic form. Because of its failure to provide even minor improvement, I switched to a series of over-the-counter medications which proved to be just as useless. I suffered for many years, especially during the Spring.when pollination was at its highest levels. Then in the early '90's, I was introduced to a Swiss homeopathic remedy that was available in a sub-lingual, pill form. I began to use it with the same doubts that I had held for years. But to my surprise, I found relief -- at least an 80% improvement within a couple of days. Quite naturally, I continued to use that homeopathic compound every Spring since. There's nothing else that works for me. Homeopathy isn't a miracle panacea. It can work for some people but not for others. They who have not received any relief from homeopathic remedies ought not to label them all as ineffective, expensive and derived from "pseudo science." I have found one that does work; whereas all the scientifically-prepared compounds coming out of the major pharmaceutical laboratories proved to be a waste of my money.

I wonder if it is some sort of consciousness? look at those scientist who got food poisoning from a glass of water, the water's memory of what they were working on ( poison warfare ) altered the water's structure , it really makes you wonder if true kindness and attention to the patients is maybe the healing, the water maybe holding the energy of kindness ? Maybe we truly are in a matrix and as Renae Decartes considered nothing is real !
paul w (6 месяцев назад)
This is a textbook case in how to be unscientific, prejudiced and let prior-bias and opinion get in the way of 'research'. Spoiler: the whole program was designed around the protocol of eliminating anything positive encountered with regards homeopathy and the other modalities 'investigated'.

Unproven is an understatement. The concept of homeopathy is idiotic nonsense. Such minute concentrations of the so-called "active" symptom-mimicking ingredient as are called for in this pseudo-medicine would be totally eclipsed by all manner of unknown and uncontrollable impurities which would be unavoidably present in comparable quantities in any aqueous solution, all competing for the postulated "therapeutic" effect. The nett result could never be anything but zero at best, or all kinds of unpredictable consequences if this nonsensical theory of homeopathy were to have any foundation in reality. Reductio ad absurdum. This is blatant quackery, unless it is viewed as nothing more than an outrageously-priced placebo. As such, any sample of distilled water would do the job, and the same distilled water would be equally as effective as any homeopathic product for any medical condition you care to imagine.

placebos do work and have no side effects.. obviously if one relies on a placebo for a serious problem when something more substantial is necessary - there is a problem not being properly treated.. but i suspect that there are many times that a person is better off with a cheap placebo - rather than an expensive poison..

Mr Astrologer needs to look up the meaning of the word ‘integrity’. Goes something like this: “Integrity – the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.” He says “I don’t believe in the experiment” (whatever that means) Dawkins is suggesting. If he was honest he would be saying “I know the experiment (as shown by James Randy) will expose Astrology as a sham and consequently me as a charlatan”. People with morals don’t peddle ideas which they know to be bullshit. He insists Astrology works even though his body language suggests he knows it doesn’t. Astrologer = dishonest and showing low moral principles = lack of integrity.
