UPSOUND: (English) Aaron Dew, Director of Product Development, TCL (shows various of Dew on stage addressing CES audience) LEADIN: Consumer electronics giant TCL is launching its new 8-series range of 8K televisions at CES in Las Vegas. The new televisions will feature technologies to improve colour and contrast. STORYLINE: TCL has announced its latest Roku TV model. The new 8-Series out this year will feature 8K resolution, quantum dot technology and a new Quantum Contrast backlight system. At CES in Las Vegas TCL's Product Director Aaron Dew told the audience the new televisions would be available in the North American market this year. According to Dew: "As QLED technology has matured over the past few years we now believe that our mainstream TV customers will truly value the colour volume, colour space coverage, colour brightness and colour longevity that only quantum dot technology can deliver." Dew is out to convince markets that a combination of these technologies will deliver TCL's best television yet. He says: "To truly see something to view its shape its texture its reflectivity and to know its relationship to everything else that your audience can see, black and white, and shades of grey are the only visual elements needed. colour is just the frosting on the cake. Contrast is the cake. So we put just as much effort to ensure a great contrast performance on our TVs as colour performance and one of the core technologies that we use to deliver some of the highest contrast LCD televisions in the market is called contrast control zone technology. Contrast control zones is a pretty simple concept but one that weve refined to deliver better high dynamic range performance using a grid of LCD lights that illuminate the TV from behind, contrast control zone technology drives individual LED zones to be brighter, or darker based on the image thats onscreen in each frame of content. The result is sharper contrast, brighter whites and deeper blacks." TCL is also among the electronics manufacturers who are hoping to create a demand for 8K technology, despite the fact that there is little content available for it. "Yes more pixels means more image clarity a better image, especially in the biggest TV screen sizes. As more consumers buy 65, 75-inch and even larger screens for their homes, we believe that those consumers will naturally choose the greater screen resolution of 8K for those big screens, just as consumers have already done with 4K TVs," says Dew. Spearheading interest in 8K will be a new 8K Association which Dew says will be made up of industry leaders. The aim will be to: "Promote the benefits of 8-K resolution to consumers and to other industry partners such as streaming service providers. We expect that the 8-K Association will be an important catalyst to rapidly grow the global adoption of this exciting big screen technology," he says. Dew says: "We believe that those consumers will naturally choose the greater screen resolution of 8-K for those big screens, just as consumers have already done with 4K TVs. Only a few years after the first 4K were launched, now nearly 100 percent of TVs of fifty five inches and larger sold here in the US last year were 4K resolution. And we believe that in the next few years consumers will naturally select 8-K TVs in 65 inches in larger just as quickly as 4K was adopted." ==== Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: https://twitter.com/AP_Archive Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/APArchives Google+: https://plus.google.com/b/102011028589719587178/+APArchive Tumblr: https://aparchives.tumblr.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/APNews/ You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/youtube/cb8f729a782d6cebd8d2407e504cdc36
