Empties | natural, organic & cruelty-free beauty products

My opinions and thoughts on some natural beauty products I used up in the last few months. I recently 'detoxed' my skin care, makeup, and hair products so I've been trying different natural, organic, and cruelty-free brands to see which I like and what works well. The products I talk about in this video are: 0:08 Sante Organic Orange & Coconut Gloss Shampoo http://www.sante.de/en/produkte/family/family-shampoo/family-glanz-shampoo-bio-orange-und-coco/ 0:37 Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile Liquid Soap https://www.drbronner.com/DBMS/category/PEPPERMINT.html 1:03 Lavera Organic Invigorating Cleansing Gel http://www.pravera.co.uk/shop/lavera-cosmetics/face-care/facial-cleanser/lavera-organic-invigorating-cleansing-gel 1:35 The Konjac Sponge Co. Here's a major keeper: Thayers Rose Petal Aloe Witch Hazel Toner. About 100 years old and made by a Pharmacist's daughter. So good!!!
julstinnuwen (1 year ago)
Kinda late, but 100% pure shea butter is great, not comedogenic and has 8-10 SPF naturally.
Aging Ophelia (1 year ago)
I like Dr. Bronner's in Rose best, my hubby-man loves the peppermint. He uses it as shampoo too. Oh, and those Konjac style sponges are at Sephora.com, too.
Elena L (1 year ago)
I don't know where you live, but you can get a konjac sponge for 2.50 euro here in germany.
Ivana Jazo (2 years ago)
Devita Solar Protective Moisturizer SPF 30+ is my favourite sun screen for the face. It is not greasy at all and it protects your face all day long.
Linnea Lanzky (2 years ago)
I know this is a bit late. But Antipodes makes a really great natural sunscreen, it is called Immortal. Thanks for a great vid.
Kiki Gee (2 years ago)
the mad hippie facial SPF cream is pretty good
Kat M (2 years ago)
Do you know boho brand?
Rare tube (2 years ago)
Really think that real organic produtcs can't be found in bottles, they can be found in kitchen and ground plants and tree.. there always be some chemicals in it (just think about the beautiful perfum they have,no natural product have that) I recommend using only raw products like Argan oil for skin and hair and ghassoul for hair also, black soap for exfoliation (this one is amazing you can actually see your dead skin coming out of your body) check out here for more information : http://www.ebay.com/sch/themoroccangirl/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from= :)

I like to use the Dr Bronner bottles when I go to bulk stores. Some of them have bulk liquid castille soap. I mean, Dr. Bronner's is awesome, but I'm not above using a generic brand in a bulk store. :)

Have you tried Green People sun lotions. Like you l have very fair skin but find their sun tan lotions excellent and they have a lovely smell.
My Green Closet (2 years ago)
I haven't tried it, but I really appreciate the recommendation! Finding a good, natural sun cream can be so difficult!

Can you do a video on what you use dr. bronner's soap for? :)
Maria Avi (1 year ago)
Samantha Nicholson you can use it for pretty much everything!!
Jo Levy (2 years ago)
Absolutely love Dr. Bronners soap! It's one of the only soaps out there that doesn't break me out. Also, it's awesome for makeup brush cleaning. Fab empties review! x

michael50694 (2 years ago)
What is your favorite shaving cream?
frankensteins_daughter (2 years ago)
acure has a foaming shave gel that I've heard great things about, but conditioner actually works really well to shave with from what I've found
My Green Closet (2 years ago)
I don't use one, I usually just use a shea butter/moisturizing soap for shaving.
Mae (2 years ago)
I found a brand called NOeCosmetics and their products doesn't seem to contain any bad ingredients. But, I don't know, I might be wrong.
Noémie Léonard (2 years ago)
I'd love to know why you don't use Lush products. You mentioned you didn't in a video, but without explaining. I do use Lush (in Belgium it's the most readily available in cruelty free products) but I would like to be more informed about the brand.
Noémie Léonard (2 years ago)
I understand. Thank you for your answer, it does make more sense now! Thank you as well for your always so inspiring videos! xx
My Green Closet (2 years ago)
Hi Noémie, I have pretty mixed feelings about Lush. While I don't think they are a "bad" company and will very occasionally buy products from them, I try to buy from other companies first. This is because Lush has some greenwashing issues (generally marketing themselves as more eco-friendly/natural than they actually are). I look for fairly clean products and Lush unfortunately uses ingredients like parabens (not healthy), sulphates (not eco-friendly), cocamide DEA (suspected carcinogen and toxin), 'fragrance' or 'perfume' (can be anything and is recommend to be avoided by EWG) and other ingredients that I try to avoid since detoxing my beauty products. I do think Lush is doing some great things with their cruelty-free campaign and recycling. Some of their products are definitely better than others and they are also a much better brand than a lot of other beauty companies whose products are full of chemicals. I just personally don't feel comfortable with some of their ingredients and prefer to buy from more natural brands if I can.  However the more I learn about green beauty and search for natural products that work well, I've realized that some things can be quite difficult to find or very expensive and I do think that Lush being so widely available is really good for people getting into more natural and cruelty-free beauty and just for general convenience. I hope that makes sense... I probably should have phrased it differently or offered more of an explanation in that video. Ultimately I'm not against Lush or anything like that, they just wouldn't be my first choice.

My family is vegan and we use California Baby sunscreen, available at Target. I've also been using ELF mascara for a few years and love it.
Jami Clayton (2 years ago)
Try COOLA's face sunscreen!
KABS1 (2 years ago)
I use Green People sunscreen for me & the children's version for my child. I am a big fan of Green People in general ....all very gentle. It is a British brand started up by a mum whose child developed eczema (I was so excited when I met the "child" at a well being show). Plus a small percentage of their profits go to Charity.

Have you tried making your own face wash? I make mine with unscented castile soap, camomile tea, almond oil, vitamin e and essential oil! Way cheaper and it does foam a little! I have sensitive skin and it works great!
My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+MissDeeCanada I haven't tried but that sounds great and really simple!
MissDeeCanada (3 years ago)

My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+Sandra Giraud I've never heard of that brand, thanks for the rec!
jayathome (3 years ago)
Great video! Best sunscreen: very large brimmed hat like grandmas! Skin cancer rates are going up with more use of sunscreen. Why? Because we think we don't have to cover up any more, and spend more time in the sun. Very few are envirnomentally friendly. Also I'm loving baking soda mixed with water for facewash! Add more water for a milky cleanser add less for a gentle scrub, and then use some for your teeth! Great natural whitener! :)
My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+jayathome Definitely! I'm actually on the hunt for a great wide brimmed hat. But unfortunately I burn really easy and still need to wear sunscreen.  Love baking soda as a teeth whitener!

ELLWIS (3 years ago)
I love watching these kinds of videos, it's so nice knowing what other people try and what works for them and what not. I personally swear by the konjac sponge as a facial cleanser, but it's interesting to know it doesn't work the same way for everyone!
My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+ELLWIS I love watching them too! I'm happy that the sponge is working so well for you, I know lots of people really like it but it unfortunately wasn't the right product for me. Really enjoying your channel btw!!
Pattern of Taste (3 years ago)
Dr Bronner is amazing! I love the almond one. That lipstick really suits you xx
Free Mind (3 years ago)
Do you know Logona? I love their products specially the shampoos :) I really recommend them :)
My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+Free Mind Thanks, haven't heard of that one!
Free Mind (3 years ago)
Yey! Good to know that the sensation is mutual, I also use Dr. Organics but I don't feel the same results but is also a great brand :) in case you wanna try!
My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+Free Mind Yes! I'm using one of their shampoos right now and love it!!!
Totally agree with the konjac sponge...didn't seem effective when I tried it.
Kas Sommers (3 years ago)
Instead of buying so many products in plastic bottles, try using products such as bar soap, shampoo and conditioner. E.g. Use Dove soap for face and body, removes makeup too. Use an exfoliating cloth. Try cake shampoo and conditioner that you can get from Lush. Bottled products contain mostly water - it's usually the first item listed in the ingredients.
Jacqueline Bürgi (3 years ago)
where do you usually get your beauty products? what online shops do you prefer?
Jessica Alldredge (3 years ago)
I like Solar Protective Moisturizer SPF 30 by DeVita.
sonyafby (3 years ago)
What do you do for work? Why did you move to Germany? :) just interested because I know you studied fashion
sinisterlashes (3 years ago)
Try Barber's new tinted face sunscreen! They are the #1 selling natural, organic sunscreen on the market. Their new tinted facial sunscreen is SPF 20 and I LOVE IT! Super light, I spray my face with an Evan Healy Hydrosoul and then put on the sunscreen. It works like magic, feels good, doesn't dry put my skin and wears very well under makeup! Also, Mineral Fusion has an awesome Brush-On Sun Defense that I'm a fan of!
My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+captainleekee Thanks for the recommendations! I've tried the Badger sport sunscreen and found it greasy, but I'm interested in trying that tinted facial sunscreen!
sinisterlashes (3 years ago)
*Badgers, not Barber's.

Devita solar protective moisturizer...love
Priscila Moreno (3 years ago)
Just a suggestion, the Royal Sense Bugarian Rose Water Hydrosol Spray, Andalou Naturals' Meyer Lemon Creamy Cleanser and Rose CC Cream (tinted W/ SPF 30--the lightest shade) are all amazing.

I saw in lush they now do a sun screen range up to SPF 50 but I'm from the UK I don't know if they have it in US ...
Valeria (3 years ago)
I know that Lavera does really great shower gels! :) I have tried one of them before and it was really really good!

Have a look at eco cosmetics for sunscreen, I feel like it's the favourite of germany's natural cosmetics blog scene and mine too :)
Samantha Lindsey (3 years ago)
http://www.annmariegianni.com skincare products are absolutely amazing! I've been using her products for so long and my skin has never been better. Just wanted to share :)
Lacey S (3 years ago)
lush makes really great facial moisturizers, if you want to give that a try instead of the 100% pure one. Alba makes a bunch of great sunscreens, and it's vegan.
Laughter&Nature (1 year ago)
Lacey S No sunscreen is vegan. If it has "natural" zinc or titanium dioxide, it's still toxic. I suggest you look up vegan sunscreen ingredients to better understand my claim.
mkp08706 (3 years ago)
Try THE HONEST COMPANY sunscreen. For every purchase they make a donation to a family in need.
Sundra Beauty (3 years ago)
Such a nice video- i just bought that lavera cleanser too but i like it so far! 😊 we'll see how it goes. I would love to see more empties videos or recommendations for beauty products 😄 is there a shampoo and conditioner that you could recommend? can't wait for the Q&A ! 😙

My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+Sundra Beauty Thanks! That's really great! I'm interested in trying the Lavera foaming cleanser, the invigorating gel one was good but I don't think it was the right one for my skin. I'd love to hear how it works out for you! Are you going to be doing a video about the products you got??  I really like Logona's Organic Honey Volume Shampoo! I'll talk more about the shampoo/conditioners in my Q&A :)

My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+Reshma lai It's the 100% Pure Lip and Cheek Stain in Cherry. :)
lightly lumay (3 years ago)
Finding a decent, natural SPF is such an ordeal. Too greasy. Too drying. Too white. Impossible to blend. Ugh! Pratima makes a lovely one, but it's a bit pricey.
Courtney Madden (3 years ago)
+My Green Closet You should check out the Kimberly Sayer spf 30 lotion. It is kind of expensive at first but it comes with 4 ounces and you don't need much. It doesn't ball up and it super light weight!
My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+lightly lumay I've found it to be the most challenging part of switching to more natural products! Thanks for the rec!!
Emily Old (3 years ago)
Thanks for another great video. I now use rosehip oil on my face (slightly lighter than jojoba oil) thanks to you! It took a while for my face to adapt but now I can't imagine using any other cream. I have a question: Do you ever use soap bars/shampoo soap bars? I love the treadingmyownpath blog and she promotes the Plastic-free July and plastic-free living. I want to move away from products packaged in plastic and was thinking of going back to soap- like when we were kids!
My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+Emily Old That's so nice to hear you like using oil! I agree, I can't imagine using cream anymore! It's interesting you asked this because just a couple weeks ago when I finished up the Dr. Bronner's soap I decided to try out bar soap and so far really like it - I'll talk more about it in my Q&A video in a few weeks :)
Ann G. R. (3 years ago)
One extremely light sunscreen that I like, was recommended by a few bloggers. I tried it, and like the way it works under makeup. I was so pleased that when I went to my dermatologist, that is what SHE was recommending as well. La Roche - Posay. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002CML1XE/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=4LPK4TM6A2CO&coliid=I2A39IXSYFP1IT

Oh no. I didn't see that. I usually check things out on the http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ site. I hadn't checked lately.

For rose water I like using the Oil Garden Aromatherapy Rose water spray, I believe it's an Australian brand. You can buy it at the local pharmacy for about $15-$17 per 100 ml bottle.  I was recently given an SPF anti-ageing cream made by Moo Goo, another Australian brand. I find it to be very moistursing, bordering on a little bit greasy but I've only used it twice as I'm getting through some other facial moisturisers. Here's the link for Moo Goo if you're interested, they also sell a whole bunch of other beauty/body products but I don't think cosmetics  http://www.moogoo.com.au/spf-15-anti-ageing-face-cream.html
I really like the pukka rose water spray - not anything added
My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+N C-bugspe I've never heard of those brands, thank you so much!

What shampoo are you currently using that you like? Great video!
My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+8Lovelee Logona's Organic Honey Volume Shampoo. I really like it, it doesn't weigh my hair down and gives it lots of shine.
Mitzi Roberts (3 years ago)
Love your "green" videos. I am fairly new to your channel. How do you keep your teeth so white?
My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+Mitzi Roberts Thanks! So happy you like my channel! Umm I don't do anything in particular but I don't drink coffee, sometimes I'll add some baking soda to my toothpaste, and occasionally I'll oil pull which I think probably helps. :)
The Green .Way (3 years ago)
I really enjoyed this video :) I know that a lot of people like the Kimberly Sayer SPF, but I haven´t tried it yet myself. But as fas as I know it´s supposed to be very smooth and not oily on the skin! And it does not leave a white cast. You can order this via amazingy as well ;) but I think at around 40 € it´s a little bit more expensive. For the body I really like Eco cosmetics, they also do SPF for the face which I also haven´t tried yet, because I honestly only use my bb cream and jojoba oil as an spf. Jojoba oil is what I use to moisturise my face and it does actually have an SPF of about 6, so it´s definety not a problem to mix it with your daycream athough I suppose you need to slather on quite a bit to get the protection. I always buy the one by Kart (via ecco verde) Hope that was helpful to you :)
My Green Closet (3 years ago)
+The Green .Way Thanks so much for the info and recommendations!! It's really helpful! :)
