How Grain Makes Wooden Surfboards

1178 ratings | 59496 views
In this episode of Bloomberg Pursuits' MADE series we visit a shop in York, Maine. Grain Surfboards are built through an additive process that has much in common with traditional wooden ship-building. Planks of wood are cut and glued onto an internal wood frame before being sanded down to their final shape. Video by Brian Schildhorn, David Nicholson ---------- Like this video? When you have a cnc in the shop you know that is another tool in your box... that's it.... I also manufacturing wooden board.. and they are made by hand, with a cnc too!!
TheQuantumCreeper (5 days ago)
Nah, surfboards are usually carved entirely by machine and then glasses by hand. This is definitely a more hand on approach. Still not truely hand made, but not truely machined.
