Just had my regular mammogram, a follow up, and 6 months later another 4 views on the same side for a total of 10+ exposures to the radiation on ONE SIDE in ONE YEAR. That’s the last time I go to Kermit Gosnell sister to read my mammograms!!!!

Where can a woman turn to get strictly a breast ultrasound?? It seems that screening labs won't let you get one without a mammogram first. Any ideas?

They don’t even use mammograms in Europe anymore .. I’ve never got one and never will

Mycotoxins and aflatoxins in Beans, Corn, Coffee, Nuts, especially PEANUTS, apple cider vinegar, mushrooms, grains and dried dates, prunes and raisins would make a great video. Also mold poisoning and detoxing of the cytoxins that cause CIRS chronic inflammatory response syndrome.

There are two types of mammograms: screening mammograms (a healthy woman goes to check there is no hidden cancer), and a diagnostic mammogram (patient has a lump, pain, other symptoms and goes for a mammogram). Does the science support diagnostic mammograms in terms of risk verse benefit?

+Nutritionfacts.org You've said that someone would have to drink 5 liters of soy milk in order to warrant a concern for female characteristics. You made this seem impossible; however, I'm a bodybuilder and sometimes I'll eat two blocks of tofu through out the day. Your thoughts? THANK YOU!!!

Thank you, Dr. Greger, for doing this series on mammograms. I have a scientific background and have looked at all the available research on this, finally concluding that the risks of mammograms (physical pain, psychological setbacks from false positives, disfigurement from unnecessary biopsies and overtreatment, and radiation-induced cancers) outweigh the benefits (one death from breast cancer prevented for every 1,000 women undergoing annual mammograms for ten years). Every year since I turned 39, however, I get pressured by my GP and gynecologist to have a mammogram. When I try to explain my reasons for refusing mammograms, I get treated like a scientifically illiterate person who is against all medicine (vaccines, antibiotics, ultrasounds, etc.). I dread my annual checkups because of the inevitable unpleasantness of having to argue with the doctor about something that is supposed to be the doctor's specialty. I've even had to change gynecologists twice because when you repeatedly refuse mammograms, they stop treating you altogether. If I refuse a mammogram and ask for a clinical breast exam, for example, they make a point of rushing through the clinical breast exam, and still hand me a mammogram order on the way out. The level of disrespect for women's decisions about their bodies is breathtaking. I realize that most women out there don't have the necessary scientific and statistical training to make sense of all the studies. This is supposed to be the job of the medical establishment. It shouldn't be up to the public to determine whether the advice doctors are giving them is really what's best for them. Ultimately, this is the consequence of having a profit-based health-care system. Thank you for your efforts to undo the damage.

Check out the "Should I Get a Mammogram" pamphlet published by "Breast Cancer Action", which is "the only national breast cancer organization that does not accept funding from entities that profit from or contribute to cancer, including the pharmaceutical industry." Also, make sure to watch Dr. Greger's other videos on mammograms. There are six more. There is also a very good article in Mother Jones that includes links to the research. It's titled, "What If Everything Your Doctors Told You About Breast Cancer Was Wrong?" In the end, there are risks and benefits associated with mammograms. It's up to each woman to make up her own mind as to whether the benefits outweigh the risks. The problem is that the medical establishment does not trust women to make up our own minds. It does not even give us the facts.
PrinceOfLight4 (9 месяцев назад)
H. G. Honestly, I actually don't trust NBCF... but I'm kinda on the fence about this... idk... I'm kinda leaning against the NBCF... I do NOT trust them... Disinformation needs to be illegal.......... disinformation is not free speech, it's a criminal act............... I mean, look at FDA, CDC etc!!!
H. G. (9 месяцев назад)
And you think the National Breast Cancer Foundation's statements override the evidence Dr. Greger has presented in this video?
Rose Lavia (9 месяцев назад)
How about ultrasounds? Do they also cause risk?
H. G. (9 месяцев назад)
No, ultrasound does not involve ionizing radiation. It uses sound waves that are too high in frequency to be audible to humans. Even electromagnetic waves don't cause cancer when the frequency is low enough that the photons are not energetic enough to break chemical bonds. That's why radio waves or visible light don't cause cancer.

Thank You So much Dr. Greger :) It's much safer for women to have an MRI Screening done for the detection of Breast Cancer!

Why didn't you suggest thermography which is totally safe and detection can be done much earlier.
deanna b (9 месяцев назад)
Wendy dune The information I have from the series the truth about cancer and their research say it is more accurate than mammograms and can detect much smaller tumours and is 100 percent safe

Dr Greger I think you need to unpack the last sentence more for your viewers. I know the lead up videos covered the lack of clinical trial showing no benefit but a final summation /balancing pros cons risks benefits would be good.

let me fix the title: Can -Mammogram- Radiation Cause -Breast- Cancer? makes the answer pretty obvious ehh?
Sky Cross (9 месяцев назад)
But Dr. Greger did prove mammograms CAN cause cancer. The cancer industry is a multi-billion dollar scam. Radiation and chemotherapy poison cancer patients. The immune system is constantly fighting off mutated cells (essentially cancer). And remember vegan blood is 8 times less hospitable to cancer cells. No mammograms for me. If I have breast cancer cells in me they're from my meat-loving past. Now that I'm vegan any mutated cells are getting their ass kicked by my plant-based diet. Don't believe me, listen to Dr. McDougall who has cured cancer with a plant-based whole foods diet.
H. G. (9 месяцев назад)
You mean "ionizing radiation", which is what mammograms use. Not all radiation causes cancer.
Q. .Q (9 месяцев назад)
What’s the alternative? What’s the best screening method?
Q. .Q (9 месяцев назад)
H. G. I hear you. I still consider it a tough choice, either you decide to screen with a mammogram and your risk damaging your body or you decide not to screen and play the odds and you might have cancer and not get the treatment you could have gotten... I wish there was a better choice.
H. G. (9 месяцев назад)
Watch Dr. Greger's other videos on mammograms. Radiation-induced cancer is only one of the many problems with mammograms. The larger problem is overtreatment: any kind of screening is likely to find structures that might not kill you but might lead to disfiguring biopsies, lumpectomies, or even mastectomies. The "pink ribbon" campaign has caused women to see our breasts as ticking time bombs. We are repeatedly told that one in eight women will get breast cancer. Seven in eight women will never get breast cancer, but eight out of eight women will be terrified of dying of breast cancer almost their whole lives. The real tragedy is that billions of women's sex lives are being harmed because of this culture of fear, and that millions of women are undergoing painful and risky mammograms every year unnecessarily. No type of cancer screening has been shown to reduce overall mortality. Cancer treatment is getting better all the time. The "alternative", therefore, is to accept that we are all mortal and stop worrying about things that are unlikely to kill us.

Then what other kind of exam instead of the mammogram could you suggest to examine the female breasts to detect/prevent cancer?? Btw thank you for posting all of this info, eye opening...
H. G. (9 месяцев назад)
I'm sorry for forgetting to mention it in my previous post. The best screening method available is a "clinical breast exam"; i.e., a manual exam done by your GP or gynecologist annually. (The Canadian National Breast Screening Study found this to be as effective as an annual mammogram plus clinical breast exam.) Also, if you happen to notice a change in appearance in the mirror or find a lump in the shower, get it checked out. You don't need to do breast self-exams: it was found that when they do self-exams, women tend to confuse benign cysts with malignant lumps.
Manuela L (9 месяцев назад)
H. G. Okay, thanks for answering my question :)
H. G. (9 месяцев назад)
Any kind of screening is likely to lead to overtreatment (i.e., unnecessary biopsies, lumpectomies, and mastectomies). One day, perhaps, researchers might invent a method of screening that distinguishes structures that are unlikely to become malignant from those that are likely to grow into cancer, but given how much money is being wasted supporting the mammogram industry, I doubt this will happen in our lifetime. Your best bet is to live your life in such a way as to reduce your risk of not just breast cancer but all the major diseases. Watch Dr. Greger's video on "How Not to Die".
Frying Enigmas (10 месяцев назад)
Can we change the topic from mammograms yet?
H. G. (9 месяцев назад)
This is a very important issue that affects a huge segment of the population. If you look into it further, you will find that the medical establishment is misleading women about the benefits of mammograms. Millions of women are being harmed and hurt (literally) in order to keep radiologists employed. Dr. Greger's efforts to provide the facts is laudable. And, ultimately, this issue is tied to nutrition. We are told that the best way to avoid dying from breast cancer is mammograms, when, in fact, the best known way to reduce one's risk of breast cancer is through nutrition and exercise. Dr. Greger often makes videos on topics that don't interest me in the least. But I'm sure there is someone out there who is grateful for them.

How can we get all doctors (especially ob/gyns in my case who looked at me like I am insane when I refused to get a mammogram) to see all this data....This is truly unbelievable, don't doctors have even the most basic ethical values? How can they send a patient off to have an annual mammogram knowing these statistics and/or without letting her know about the risks?
Renee' Baumgartner (3 месяца назад)
Even here in Lancaster County, PA, the radiologist says they don't tell women the amount of exposure they are getting so they can make a more informed decision. It's criminal.

H. G. (9 месяцев назад)
Given that you are unlikely to ever need a mammogram, why are you concerned? Indeed, if you were a healthy woman in your 40s being constantly pressured by every doctor who treats you to get a "baseline mammogram" -- a mammogram that is likely to cause extreme pain, possibly for days, has a false-positive rate, a high false-negative rate, a high risk of leading to unnecessary and disfiguring biopsies and overtreatment, not to mention radiation-induced cancer, and has been shown to have no effect on mortality -- I wonder if you would be so dismissive of Dr. Greger's efforts to inform women about the facts.

As a breast cancer survivor, I despise the cancer industry, but am torn to stop, reduce, or continue yearly diagnostic mammograms. I recently had a suspicious mammogram with a benign biopsy, costing me approx. $2,500 out of pocket. Makes me sick!
Sky Cross (9 месяцев назад)
Your cancer could have been caused by moderate alcohol use, which studies have linked to breast cancer. Maybe also the chemicals and toxins in laundry soap, air freshener, cleaning supplies, maybe even air pollution or second hand smoke. Just remember your vegan blood is fighting the cancer cells 8 times harder than a meat-eater's blood. Your plant-based diet is your best weapon. Like Dr. John McDougall says, "It's not the end of the world if you get cancer. Some people get over it." Research John McDougall and cancer.
Vicky Manson (9 месяцев назад)
Thank you for sharing your story, it is so important that cancer survivors share their experiences. The lesson I learned after being in the hands of doctors for many years and having had a number of failed procedures which cause now cause me chronic pain, is that doctors will often not tell you the risks, the side effects, the costs etc. So it is all up to us patients to do the job for them. Be well informed, never be shy/afraid to ask questions, demand to learn about the risks, the data, treatment options etc. If a doctor cannot give you this information, just walk out that room and find another doctor who will listen to you and understand the difficult position you are in as a patient.
