How to make a japanese style bookshelf with traditional hand cut joinery out of jatoba and oak using both power and hand tools. A very unique and beautiful build that challenged me and was very rewarding. Very well done. I wish you could provide a cut list and the steps to make it, but I enjoyed the video!!!!!

Damn that bookshelf just looks fantastic! However, you're killing me with all of the hand tool usage. Much respect, but I'm sure a bit more machine usage wouldn't hurt lol (and save you some time)

My favorite class in school. Awesome bookshelf mate.

Impeccable work and a beautiful piece. I hope I don’t sound foolish but I’m guessing 100 + hours to craft this.

A magnificent video, sadly triggering for me. I'm a retired cabinetmaker who can't play in the shop any more. Oh well.

"Japanese style" being the keyword. I'm assuming this man has never lived in Japan. Most bookshelves are identical to Western style, this would be very atypical as it's inefficient space for flooring. Source: I'm a Japanese Bookshelf

Extrodanary beautiful. You could have made the shot of the final product a bit longer for us to enjoy. Hope the customer likes it!Subscribed to you channel! But why does a craftsman like you does not have a planer / jointer combi? A nice "local hardwood store" you have there...
Chey Che (1 месяц назад)
this is a level above the average DIY videos i have seen. this is a Master Level craft right here. I also enjoyed your music choice. it was serene.

Well, I love Japanese woodworking and I love your videos, so this was a win-win for me! The only comment I would have is that you didn't take your shop partner to the hardwood dealer??? 🐕⁉️🤔😁

Why can't all flat-pack furniture be like this? All you need is a few taps with a mallet and a couple of wedges and your done. That would be bliss!

Hi, just found your channel... And love it already 💓 Japanese joinery is what I aspire to. Was wondering if you could do a video on how you made your shoulder plane? As it's one of the things I would like to make myself, as I would like to start making some of my own tools, and will be great to see how you would do it. You have a really nice way of working and a great chilled vide with the way you do things... Looking forward to binging on your other videos 😁👍

linseed oil finish ?!? Why not go with Tung oil for the finish, would have suited this style much better.

Can I ask why you use hand drills? does it provide a better result or was it a request of the customer?

Beautiful work. It would be neat to see this design with the feet lowered so tusk tenons dont need notches. I would have made each of the top tenons into two smaller tenons, so the wedges could be oriented to align perpendicular to the top boards grain direction. download 50 free plans here 👉👉t.co/uBn94fGzVZ

I really like Linseed Oil & Paste Wax finishes. I admire the older style of woodworking. It doesn't ALL have to be power tools & synthetic glues & finishes. And you show that you don't have to have a BIG shop to get things done. Oh to have a nice lumber yard like you do... I learned much of what you did watching The Woodwrights Shop. Unfortunately with the advent of Digital TV & retirement (poverty) I no longer have access to PBS.
