Why Japan's Women Problem Is Hard to Fix

Оценок: 6838 | Просмотров: 569730
In an attempt to bring more workers into Japan's shrinking economy, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has outlined goals to create a "Japan in Which Women Shine," also known as "Womenomics." Bloomberg QuickTake explains why the government still faces serious deep rooted gender bias that excludes women from work.

All quotas do is guarantee you DON'T get the best person for the job. A person should be hired based on work ethic. Showing up everyday, being on time and the most knowledgeable etc. A person should not be hired based on gender, religion or skin color.

More women forced into work means less children being born means only adding to Japan's demographic problems. You can see this clearly in the west already, european women dont even make 2 children anymore while immigrant women from 3rd world make 5+ thus replacing westerners.

Seems to me, these bitches be hatin cus we men destroy our health and neglect our families so we can stack paper to the ceiling and ride 24" chrome.... 8% women just barely joined the workforce and she's really complaining that it's not enough because they're paid crap wages instead of handed exec positions? What a bunch of goofy fem logic haha

In Japan,it is hard for many women to get job or to return to work ,except part time jobs , once they gave a birth to baby. After I had a baby,I had looked for job in order to earn income. But I was refused again and again.😭

There's so much wrong with this very idea . In my humble opinion . Japan Prides itself in Tradition and this is almost like they're stripping the country of inside entity it's culture . Granted culture won't put food on the table . In Japan the husband gives his wife his paycheck and she gives him an allowance of like $9 a day to live on . So it's not exactly like they're holding their women down . I'll happily stay home clean the house go buy groceries and take all of my wife's money and bit her live on $9 a day . Hold me down .

I feel like trying to force women into the work force will actually decrease birth rates, and further make the population decline crisis worse

Sorry to say men will dye before they truly share leadership with women, they fear that women will take vengeance on the shut they have done through time..and unfortunately their are women that support that outdated point of view. Look to America to see how that plays out every day of women.

I really don't think that enforced quotas would solve the cultural problems. It would probably make them worse, Where people both men and women, start to go against their peers. "You only got that job because you are a woman and they had to meet quotas, I got it with merits." Also... If I was hired as a daycare teacher because I was a man, and they had to fill a quota, I would be absolutely insulted. There might be barriers to entry, sure I'll believe that, no reason to doubt that. BUT... those barriers can not be destroyed unless women want to smash them. Just like you can't teach a child that doesn't want to learn. You can not make someone successful if they don't want to be. You can't break institutional barriers for certain groups unless that group wants to break them. Women aren't some borg collective, they are individuals with their own goals and desires, you can't force them to do something so you can meet your policy goals. You can't pick a random woman off the street and tell her "You will now be a CEO" she could answer "No... I like my job as a nurse... as a welder... as a stay at home parent".

Instead of big businesses and medium-sized businesses contracting to meet market demand they want to stay in conflict-and-competition with rival big businesses and medium-sized businesses even as you have a dwindling child birth-rate continuing monopolisation and creeping automation in each-and-every industry that makes-up the white-market so market demand continues to shrink

Okay, so now Japan has to increase mandatory Maternity Leave and Benefits, which raises taxes, which causes more men to work longer, which shrinks the amount of time to socialize, which shrinks their population, which causes more women into the workforce. Great thinking there, Abe! Swell plan!

some Japanese companies have found that women are less efficient workers by separating the genders and monitoring performance, and have reduced their employment numbers. the answer is not to create an even more ridiculous boost liability on behalf of one gender, but rather increase birthrate. fail.

Jame M (2 месяца назад)
Irony. A few years back while i was still in school I did some research and study on Gender equality for a paper. They noted how 45% of men surveyed think women should stay at home, but in the US (where the number is closer to a quarter of men) upwards of 2/3's of women think they should be able to stay home and raise kids, and its only financial reasons why they don't. However, 1/3 of women do stay home, and well over 90% say that its by their choice not from pressure from their husbands. As well, in Japan, many youths have actually struggled with even wanting to enter the work force, with nearly a quarter becoming shut ins the last I heard (although i do not know how true that is). Another fun fact that they glossed over, Japanese work days can be upwards of 14 hours long with 17 hour days not unheard of. It is very common for a citizen of Japan to get up at 6AM got to work by 8 or 9, leave work at about 10 and go to bed at 12AM. That tends to drive women away from the workforce.

A population which is aging, shrinking (because Japanese men are not getting married to start families), no migration (the main driving force for bigger economies like America, Britain, France and Germany) and on top of that more and more women are "forced" to enter the labor force...seems like Japan is heading towards extinction sooner than later.

Problem with the very well done message in the "go vote" advertisement before this ytube video report is people for decades too often, continue consuming (and or working with) in largely the same ways with same largely non-changing and or facade positive changes, trading (and often highly subsidized legacy) with very ill commercialized companies that impossibly, impossibly in terms of decency to consumers and ecology we live with (or don't live with after the messes we make / destroy the healthy relationship with ecology), make largely in some way or another ill products given impossible expectations for ill returns. (In general, most speculatively traded public stock owned, chain fast foods, many restaurants, bigbox stores, "health care system" that not only costs a lot yet generally is profit motive lazy about getting stupidly patient patients to not to genuinely change before becoming repeat and frequenting customers, etc) (This pattern of consumption largely goes unchanged, no matter if the US election system is as it is or was about healthy democracy (it is no where near healthy, and the DemGOP system is big part of its ugly)

Here is what is going to happen: Sure. Give women equal pay and equal merit in the work force. They have the right to that. And they deserve it. HOWEVER with the shrinking population, Japanese men will start looking abroad for wives to have families which their own women are unwilling to have. Its already started to happen. I'm not saying its wrong for Japanese women to not want children. Its their choice. I'm just saying there is a price to pay for this.

A better option would've been to have companies hire men that are about to get married this would cause every men to get married just so they could get a job this isnt the best answer but its all i could think of.

More women in the work force will mean lower fertility. It will only accelerate the death spiral that Japanese society has already entered into. RIP Japan.
Matt Ryan (2 месяца назад)
Forcing women to be like men or companies to hire women will only result in the birthrate continuing to fall as the women would be too busy working long hours to even have kids or to be a parent. The population and the economy would still be shrinking while not making a dent in the problem, with the decline the happening faster thanks to the intervention. The only solution is to get rid of the welfare state or have the government become draconian in ordering Japanese women to have children without them having any say.

It's stupid to point a woman on high position just for the sake it's woman...hiring should be according to skills not gender is there's less men in certain field of women in another that's because of having less skills and period nothing more or less. Companies are to profit not make charity.

I don't like the idea of quotas, except perhaps for schooling in this particular gender-situation, but encouragements & perks for hiring women is an idea? Gauged, as best possible, to about what average level of bias exists, so that an employer would see hiring the woman or man as about equal then, so that a cold hard look at what really are the actual occupational merits of prospective employees become the main determining factor... there's bound to be problems with it, & difficulty in determining appropriate level of encouragements & perks, but it's something, and certainly worth trying, as is known in America: Asian women are especially smart, they are often excellent in school! so to exclude them from high education, and important jobs, is a heavy blow to any country that does so, quite frankly that blow also reverberates outwards to everyone on this planet, making things worse for all of us, slowing down any possible approach to a better world, considerably... extrapolation of this the present set-back effects just currently, to thats exponential effect on future possibilities & limitations? is a grim calculation no person would wish to think about... time is of the essence on this one, altho rushing too much isn't due when it comes to employment, that can be over-hurried, such that too quick of disruption in the households occurs, & resentments pop up, also considering global competition, no country can afford to place a huge chunk of people into high occupations that haven't been properly prepared, but at very least in terms of education things need to very quickly be brought up to par, this will also lead to better relations in the home, so long as the traditional cultural attitude encouraging women to bond tightly to their men is maintained, and, certainly create more interest between spouses, one must also consider, that limiting education of women in countries where they tend to be the primary caretakers of the children, does critical damage to their People's possibility & opportunity! So I tend to feel, that perhaps the Japanese are naturally even more creative & clever mastercraftspeople than we hold them to be now....anyways, maybe there will also eventually be a touch more interest? in women hanging out at night in those cafes & clubs with the men where so much wheeling & dealing is done, sometimes

Actually Japan has no other choice but to increase female participation in order to offset the declining labor pool. The other option is to bring in immigrants, which the Japanese are absolutely terrified of. People say all kinds of things about Germany these days, about how it's turning Islamic and losing it's identity. But the fact is that Germany is still one of the most resilient economies in Europe and beyond, one of the most vibrant democracies with strong institutions and possess very modern and high tech industries. Germany could remain as all of these with a lot of immigrants from less complimentary cultural backgrounds. Japan on the other hand find it extremely difficult to even integrate the ethnic Koreans, who we could agree to be culturally the closest to the Japanese than any other ethnic group.
