If they legalised heroin, there would be no heroin related crime and there would be no heroin dealers and disease transmission would drop dramatically. It is stupid for being made illegal in the first place. The government wastes billions of dollars trying to combat illegal heroin. But all they have to do is make it legal and that will erradicate illegal heroin. And it will reduce the prison population and increase employment and productivity.

I went on methadone and i was upto 150mg per day, and it did not do anything to stop my drug cravings, i was constantly sweating (i would wake up at 3am and my bed was drenched in sweat). Methadone does not work at all for a lot of people. But legalised heroin would be more effective. Methadone is legal and it is so much more dangerous, especially if combined with alcohol Luckily now im on oxycontin otherwise i would be dead by now.

This is a small forum, but I believe that my tuppence-worth could spread some light. I am a drug user, with some experience of opiates and I have the dubious pleasure of being a paranoid schizophrenic. Firstly, to anyone who believes that we shouldn't be supporting peoples drug addition, look at what we expect from the NHS ie medicine to make us better. From an addicts point of view that's all it becomes. I also as a psychiatric patient, "for my own good" have a state sponsored habit of harder..

Saying that addicts need to hit rock bottom is the same as saying schizophrenics and people with major depression need to hit rock bottom. This is obviously a no brainer. Addiction is not a choice, just as major depression and schizophrenia aren't. Depriving addicts of their drug of choice only results in the addict switching to something else.

Most drugs should be legalized, absolutely. It's as the first fellow said. It is shocking to think we're in 2010 and we still haven't seen that this attitude of "it's illegal LALALALA" is not working. Our drug problems are getting worse and worse; very bad people that take part in sex trafficing with adults and children are profitting and being held up by it; people are being harmed much more by using cut drugs. Our current policies make the situation much, MUCH worse.
