Hiya. What is the thickness of the wood please?
Jonas Schommer (5 months ago)
I am a novice woodworker. I am in the process of building your toy box. It came to my attention that some of the measurements are wrong and there are EIGHT not six 15 1/2 inch pieces. otherwise I have not had a problem. I just sighed up as a subscriber and just printed the plans for the automatic bird feeder. Thanks for all the hints. P.S. I made sure I put the frame together the correct way.

Anyway I can buy this?
Kayla Peralta (7 months ago)
I need a guy who can build these kinds of things!
Phil Miller (9 months ago)
I built one of these and sold it at cost to a women with 3 wild boys. The first thing I know, the lid came apart and I fixed it. I have not heard about it any more. I guess it is still together. Thanks for the plan.

Awesome, nice toy box. One thing, if the kids are like me I use to hide in the toy box, so the 1/4 inch MDF bottom wont last long.
Maurice Marshall (9 months ago)
Hey Steve, I'm new to woodworking so I have some questions. For the toybox, what kind of wood did you use? Does it make a difference? And after painting, did you apply anything to protect the wood?
Thomas Renaud (8 months ago)
Maurice Marshall He generally uses pine 1”x material, which is really 3/4” thick. With paint like he’s using there is no need to put clear coats on and such, the paint will protect the wood.

No Steve, the pocket holes on the out side facing the camera are the right way round, if you turn it inside out it means the wrong pocket holes are right and the right are wrong meaning if you can understand this could you let me know as I have now lost the plot and need a lie down. A better charity you could not support. Good luck my friend.Walter Scott from Scotland.

Steve, two things! First, I am currently working on this for box (two of them actually, one for each of my daughters) and I'll upload pics once done. Second, love the Mystery Spot sticker in your shop! Haha

Steve love your channel! looking forward to trying this toy box project! Always good to see support for cancer research, weird how cancer always hurts the people that don't deserve it!

The top of the lid appears to be completely sealed - so was caulk used in between the 1.5" board and the trim piece, sanded, then painted?

I have ok

Steve, I had an order for a toy box. I ran across your toy box today in 2015. I will donate this year. Sorry I missed it last year.

Was wondering could you build a toy box with a hydraulic lid so the toy box opens and closes via a foot pedal that activates hydraulic?
Jay Sybrandy (3 years ago)
Brad Gun 18 Gage for xmas :)

My Super Mileage Vehicle Club at John Burroughs School In Saint Louis Missouri,  built Steve's Toy box design and raffled off the box and got $215.00.   We donated all of it to the Cancer Institute.
Jake D (3 years ago)
You could have just flipped the board around. Than the holes would have been on the inside
Howard Springsteen (3 years ago)
Steve, I finally sent Marc my pics.  Thanks for doing this.  I was very happy to participate.  Here is the link. http://imgur.com/a/TmOed

Great toy box, making 3 of these for my grandchildren for Christmas
KF7AIK (3 years ago)
Steve, I have 6 girls and am going to make 6 of these for them for Christmas. If I hurry I'll get them in before the deadline for WWFC. Did you do any dimensioning of the lumber (Jointer/Planer)? I see it's pine but not just 2x4s. If you bought it S4S how was it labeled when you bought it? Did you get it Big Box or specifically a wood supplier? Thanks Steve!
Samy Qaid (3 years ago)

Gawddangit im a canadian.
Love your box makes sense for a kid.  I have mine under construction and will be sending you a picture soon.  I plan to sell mine and donate what ever I get to a locale vets charity.
JW Slaughter (3 years ago)
Steve, my first time to comment on a video of yours but have watched a ton... When filling with spackle before painting I can always see an outline around it. Do you think I am just not sanding it well enough? Also, the wood grain always peeks through my paint no matter how many coats. Is there a trick to that as well? Thanks.

cod you mak a doll
Elisabeth Enzi (3 years ago)
hey mr. ramsey! I wanted to ask, could you make an easy fidgeting toy? Like, for people with adhd/add or depression/anxiety to use in high tension situations?
james smail (3 years ago)
Great project, you should make a small ledge for chalk like the old school boards had.
AdventuresInDIY (3 years ago)
Great build for a great cause!  I like how you show how to fix your mistakes.  That's something most of us have to deal with, sometimes more that we want to admit :)
Sionnach1601 (8 months ago)
The cause that will never end, while pharma bosses make trillions, and any real cure is quickly dispensed with. Well done for the good intentions though.
Shhh we don't make mistakes, mere mortals don't need to know otherwise :)
Charles Quarles (3 years ago)
I finished my toy box
soporte809 (3 years ago)
ok then, I'm go find a video of last year, maybe I missed here on MM.
Spirito2008 (3 years ago)
when is the latest we can submit this?
Charles Quarles (3 years ago)
I am almost done making the Toy Box where should I post the pic?  love your show The last two weeks I have watched every video I could.
Michael Smith (3 years ago)
Steve I'm building your design with a hinged top with flat faces. Does the toy box have to have the book pocket to count? I'm making this for my newborn cousin for Christmas and she obviously doesn't need the book pocket yet. I want to help out this great cause.
Henry rohenwiri (3 years ago)
Hola, donde puedo ver las dimensiones, gracias, henry de Venezuela.
Shane Cole (3 years ago)
I like the last part much better
OJANproject (3 years ago)
Wait, instead of donating $5 for every toybox. why not just donate the money and let the people making the toyboxes donate the money they would have used building the box? I'm genuinely not trying to hate, I think you're a great guy with good intentions, but this just seems a bit illogical.
MO A K (3 years ago)
I'm jealous. You have the K5 jig
Luis Freites (3 years ago)

Luis Freites (3 years ago)
Awesome Steve, right from Venezuela I have to say you`ve inspired me to get start in woodworking, tanks a lot for that. I'm an Orthopedic Surgeon in my country and now tank to you  i'm also an amateur woodworker.

Cherie D (3 years ago)
though I would love to build this and support cancer research, I don't have a pocket hole jig :(, and I am not yet skilled enough to figure out how to build it without one :( any suggestion's?
Dylan Strawn (3 years ago)
lol. I love the new wine rack on the floor.
Bianca Morton (3 years ago)
too bad it needs to be similar to what you guys made. I'm preparing to make this chest i designed for my nephew :) https://www.dropbox.com/s/a1so1ggc0ef8q0m/chest.skp?dl=0

I actually just got an order for a toy box. Glad to know it will help with cancer research! How do I show you when finished?
John Tidswell (3 years ago)
Hey Steve - I sent you an email with a Starbucks gift attached. Did you get it?
Steve Kriens (3 years ago)
I'm going to get my Grandson to help me build the toy box. Gee, I wonder who will end up with the box? ;) Steve and Marc, thank you!
Crazy Hands (3 years ago)
Спасибо Марк и Стив, сейчас тоже сделаю собственной дочке таковой сундук )))
HaShomer ShelTorah (3 years ago)
I never get involved with things like these because there are many cures for cancer, it's just the pharmaceutical companies can't patent them because they all are natural and their lobbies have pushed the government to suppress the cures and crush the people who use them to cure others. Suzanne Somers was cured with mistletoe. Before you start saying "that's alternative medicine", which has been around longer? The current medical system (100 or so years), or the REAL medical system that has been healing people for THOUSANDS of years? Wake up people, the almighty dollar has brought doctors and big pharm to the point that they only care about serving their god$. Look up Dr. Tulio Simoncini or look up here on You Tube, "Cancer, the Forbidden Cures". There are many other resources out there, if I knew then, what I know now, my parents would still be with me!
Sionnach1601 (8 months ago)
Yeah, I agree. I put this up on a comment a few above yours: "The cause that will never end, while pharma bosses make trillions, and any real cure is quickly dispensed with. Well done for the good intentions though."
Timothy Fagan (3 years ago)
Thank you Steve your videos are very inspirational I have watched every single one of your videos and look forward for every Friday for what you have done next. I have never placed a comment until now, although I have never made one of your projects you have inspired me with my wood work and I have used many of your techniques in my woodwork projects. Steve your talents reach out to the whole world even in Australia and this little Aussie MM thanks you big time, that's it for now mate keep up the good work Tim

Steve, can you talk about paint? Acrylic craft paint? How durable? Why no primer coat?
Joe Bower (3 years ago)
I am wanting to make this project with my one of my high school classes, there are 8 students and we would build 20 of them.
jorn mosterd (3 years ago)
You make a lot of mistakes man..
Alan Wright (3 years ago)
Why not fill the box with wooden toys and give it to a local hospital?
Jeffrey Chaffins (3 years ago)
Awesome idea!
Ulf Tornert (3 years ago)
Great box, great cause!
James Zawacki (3 years ago)
Perfect timing!!!  I'm planning to build something similar for a LEGO table with drawers.  Unfortunately, it doesn't meet the criteria to be a toy box so I'm not really helping the cause. :/
Caron Connery-Wright (3 years ago)
Have you ever thought of making a shuffle board game
Craig Dick (3 years ago)
You painted! Oh no, that one random guy is going to get angry again.... Oh well.
andyLeer (3 years ago)
No micro jig??? :(
Tim Herrmann (3 years ago)
You are sooooo close convincing me to get a pocket hole jig.  I'm more of a purist when it comes to joinery--but the PHJ does seem to make things simple and fast for "around the house" stuff....
Ludmillo Pierre (3 years ago)
can you build a humidor?
Felix Cruz (3 years ago)
Ramsey I'm not a professional carpinter just like to do my own invention and with your videos truly I've learned a lot thank you , you're the best

Woodworking to fight cancer.  Who knew?!  What an awesome initiative!
TheEmad Mostafa (3 years ago)
fantastic work like always Steve , but you must curve all box edges to be safe for kids specially the top corner thanks for social community responsibility ,  you and Marc are great
Luciano BSQ (3 years ago)
I love it how you laugh your mistakes. i have a tool's question: does your orbital sander have a variable speed?
Adam Quincey (3 years ago)
Excellent...! Cheers...
honorio sergio (3 years ago)
good project you explain very well

You might not be able to ship your toy box, but remember - you can always ship your pants
Mofjell1981 (3 years ago)
This is awesome. Nice to see a Toy Box built for kids and not woodworkers. One question - is air holes a good idea?
Stephen Andrusco (3 years ago)

Marcos Lopez (3 years ago)
Excelente proyecto para una gran causa sigue asi steve un eres un gran ejemplo y con excelente motivación saludos
Alek Stang (3 years ago)
This is great, you guys are the best! I'll be doing a box for sure.
Josh Tintner (3 years ago)
When you make a goof like that it cracks me up! The way you handle it is so elegant and adds character to your videos! Keep the woodworking videos coming! Looooonnnggg time follower and yet haven't built a single project. I'm not a wood worker but I am a mere mortal :)
Nillie (3 years ago)
An idea for gifts to hospitals: making a bunch of those breakfast- (or laptop-)in-bed trays so the kids who have to stay in bed have a surface to play with Lego or whatever they want. Breakfast-in-bed tray...or laptop-in-bed tray
Brodie Henderson (3 years ago)
I always look forward to new videos coming out, keep up the good work, and ya awesome ideas!
Great project +Woodworking with The Wood Whisperer and +Steve Ramsey ! I really love the fact you do this for the fight again !
victor villanueva (3 years ago)
You are awesome guys !!! Thanks for all the tips I learnt from both of you. God bless you both.
kelvartis (3 years ago)
I know I'm nit picking but it's funny you setup your shop vac for the pocket hole drilling Jig...then run your sander without..  I love what you do... If I build a toy chest what the hell am I gonna do with it..?  Hardest part of all projects, making them go away and pay for materials..
thomas bartram (3 years ago)
great toy box  good project and purpose
falfas55bgas (3 years ago)
No Micro Jig promo??!  I look forward to Steve's creative Micro Jig promos!!
Jens Andree (3 years ago)
Where can one order one of those glue-dispenser-bottles? (I've asked this in an previous video as well but it got lost in all the comments I think...) Thanks for all the woodworking videos and projects that everyone can make!
Jens Andree (3 years ago)
+Super Monkey Great tip! Sadly we have no screw-top mustard bottles here in Sweden but I know them from back when I used to live in UK. I'm just fed up with having a nail in all my glue bottles since the cap only works until it falls off or is too gunked up... Off to the supermarket then and see if I can find a descent screw-top bottle that also contains something tasty! ;)
Super Monkey (3 years ago)
+Jens Andree This may be a bit late, but you can also save a bit of money and use a mustard bottle.  I've seen a lot of woodworkers do this, and it seems to work rather well.
Jens Andree (3 years ago)
+John Bogaczyk +Roy Matsuyama Thanks guys! Now I can order it and replace my now-not-working-so-great contraption :)
John Bogaczyk (3 years ago)
they can be bought at rockler, woodcraftor several other woodworking supply stores or fastcap the company that makes them hope this helps jens
keale s (3 years ago)
It's called a Glu Bot,  you can get it on Amazon.
Mekhanic1 (3 years ago)
Thanks for the vid steve-o. One thing I will critique is the corners of the box. i would of rounded them way down. One fall and someone's gonna get a cut on their head. Regardless, great build. Oh, HEY, any audible books your listening too? You got me into audible. ;)
