Inspiring! Helps keep me grounded on my estimation on how much land we'll need to farm.. Love the apron! Such a cute idea!

How do the meat birds get up to weight to wat r u getting on them also

When I was a kid, I was facinated with seeing the chickens gizzard and inside them.

I love watching you so don’t take this the wrong way and I might be seeing it wrong but at 1:06 is the youngest strapped in? The car seat doesn’t look like it’s belted into the car. If it is then I apologise, it’s just an observation. P.s I love what you do and that your kids are healthy and happy doing it too. I wish more people were like that here in the UK.

The idea of moving the pigs around to dig up the ground is a great great idea!!!!!!!! 😲😲😲😲 secretly I dislike having pigs. But now.....I'm willing to tolerate them if they will help me dig up land. My grandfather's land has rocky areas so I'm hoping maybe this will help with that problem. Thanks so much
obi2020 (7 месяцев назад)
thanks for the warning at the end about the butchering. I have great respect for people that grow, hunt, and process their own meat. As a vegetarian and empath, however, I find it hard to watch. keep up the great work; love your channel!

I could be wrong. I'm not a Dr. but if that brown patch on the girl is what I think it is it would be wise to get it removed. They tend to turn into cancers and cancers are a much bad thing.
Trish Harmon (1 год назад)
My family is one week away from closing on what will become our homestead. For me it is a life long dream. I have raised all of my children and adopted 3 siblings almost two years ago. My life long dream was to be a homesteader. I lost my 1st husband to cancer and two of my children so being able to provide a healthier life for the 3 we have adopted is very important to me. I am remarried to a man 16 years younger than I so I want a better life out of the town I am in. Your family is Huge inspiration for me. My kids want to watch your vlogs all the time so they will know what to do when we start. Although it's only 5 Acres it is in a very small town in the country. I wondered if it would be hard for the kids to leave a big neighborhood and lots of friends but seeing your kids have made me realize they will become each other's friends. Sorry for the rambling but I just wanted to thank you for your vlog and I feel I can learn so much from your family. You are Awesome people and wish there were families like yours!

Thank you for watching and leaving such a kind comment! Congratulations on your new place!
Gina Kim (1 год назад)
I would love to do homesteading, but I'm afraid of rejection from the community because I'm Korean American, and my husband doesn't approve of living in the country. I would try to convince my husband, only if I'm sure I won't face discrimination among the community, but I would think they would be nice since I'm a Christian, right now it's just a dream of mine

I loved this video.  The kids are doing so great. I love the baby waving the sunflower.  I am inspired to make my own egg apron. Is there a pattern?
karla grecar (1 год назад)
I love how she explained how she is using the pigs to heal her land, how cool.
William Christopher (1 год назад)
So, You have 5 acres.  That means you have to buy ALL the feed that you give the pigs.  Hade you fenced a full acre in various lots, then you might have made some money.
Ali W (1 год назад)
What thoughtful and perfect gifts.
getredytagetredy (1 год назад)
If you love animals and I think you do...You need to be VEGAN,,,All life share Consciousness....Those Chickens instinctively know that they are going to be slaughtered and its sickening...Kosher and Halal meat is really insane because they torture the animals first before they slaughter because Rabid Rabbis are Psychopaths void of empathy and remorse...
nicolelyn88 (1 год назад)
getredytagetredy If being a vegan is something that is important to you, then that is wonderful, but you shouldn't push your view on someone else. This is clearly part of their lifestyle..if it is uncomfortable to watch, then maybe finding a different channel to watch would be best for you. We can all have different views and opinions and still be nice.
Mona Rawles (1 год назад)
Your precious children's appreciation for the gift's touched my heart, as did the woman's graciousness who gave them. (LOVE the apron!!!)

shameless716 (1 год назад)
Art, why do people go through such trouble to pluck the feathers off chickens? Having been a hunter all my life it just seems more logical and cleaner to skin them. Is there some value in keepin the skin on?
shameless716 (1 год назад)
Lol, yeah I see that would diffently help with sales.
Donald Miller (1 год назад)
shameless716 Well , there are more things to consider . If the chickens are being sold by weight and let's say the skin weighs 3 oz. for 500 Chickens that comes to an extra $200.00 dollars or so per 500 chickens !
The Family Orton (1 год назад)
i think the skin on helps with freezer burn as well. we skin our stewing hens that we do ourself though, meat birds i would keep it on.
ART and BRI (1 год назад)
Also, if selling chicken, a skinned chicken, unless cut up, is not something American buyers are used to. Also if you are doing older laying hens, or more mature (older than 12 week cornish cross) heritage birds, the fat becomes all the more important for moisture and flavor.
ART and BRI (1 год назад)
Agree with Deb. The answer is fat and its value as calories, flavor, moisture, etc.
Cassandra Chaplin (1 год назад)
I think this was my favorite video so far. It's so helpful for those of us who are just starting to work towards self sustainability to see and hear others who have the same heart, desires, and goals. Congrats to your friends on filling the freezer, and growing their family!!!

Better Together Life (1 год назад)
Oooooo!!! I like their little setup. And if that can bring in $3000-$5000 (plus feeding their own family) that would be amazing!!!! So Art & Bri...do y'all ever want to create some "on farm income"? Meaning raising and selling animals? Maybe y'all have mentioned this and I've missed. Y'all are awesome!!!!!
ART and BRI (1 год назад)
We probably will in the future and we do already on a very small scale. I sell eggs every week and we will be selling baby goats if we can ever bring ourselves to do it.
Gail Reese (1 год назад)
I sure would like to have some of your friends hair . Mine is falling out by the comb full.

I LOVE the egg apron! I also have to tell you how adorable your little girls are! It is a compliment to you that they are so sweet and graceful... when they give their opinion they always say something uplifting and wonderful, I'm thinking it comes from good parenting. Also your menfolk are generous and hardworking (menfolk include the lil fellas runnin round and helping with Dad.) I can't wait to see what Father's day holds.
ART and BRI (1 год назад)
Thank you!

On your sons car seat behind you the straps should be at or above the shoulder for forward facing kids, not below the shoulder. Just want him to be safe.

Chive blossoms! Pretty! And very yummy - chive blossom butter is the BEST! I have made 3 lbs so far this spring - it's so good with mashed potatoes or grilled cheese sandwiches. I've read the blossoms have more flavor than the actual leaves, seems to be true of my plants. I freeze it for use all year.
Noneof Biz (1 год назад)
Emma 3010 how do you make chive butter? sounds yummy

It's so interesting to see how your older son works hard to keep up with his sisters. Even just during the time you've been doing videos, he's come along so incredibly fast. He most definitely does not want to be left behind on anything.

Welcome home Bri! Thanks for the warning! I love your whole family, what you do, and your beautiful green fields and your animals, but I think I mentioned this in comments before. I cannot see myself killing a living creature. 🌞 I've told my family before if I had to kill a creature to save my life, I probably cry myself to death first which means it would spare its life. 🌱 I respect that you can, and are able to. Beautiful necklace Grace! Love ❤️ and Peace ✌🏼 to you all!!!

Welcome home, lady! Is that 5k after feed/animal costs? Hm. I *really* want to use pigs to till but I don't know if that's gonna work in the desert. I have been doing research on pig breeds that might do well there but I'm not finding much so far. Too bad we can't keep javelina or warthogs.

Yes, she was saying 3- 5 after cost.

we used to visit my two uncles in the Sacramento area, one had a small dairy farm. another had a small homestead. they both let us help with chores. sometimes they would go out and kill two chickens for our supper, pretty much everything on the table was from the farm. children at the time, that was good for my brother and i to see and we loved it!
