Prolamins are proteins that exist in the seeds of cereal grains. Prolamins: Gluten consists of a prolamin and a glutelin. Prolamins are storage proteins, and they are the “hardware stores” of the wheat structure that distribute amino acids central to the plant’s development. Glutelin is the “glue” that holds these hardware stores together. Wheat gluten itself consists of the prolamin gliadin and the glutelin glutenin. Gliadin stimulates zonulin, the traffic cop of the gut lining, to allow it to pass into our digestive tract largely undigested and interacting with tissue transglutaminase (tTG), an enzyme found throughout the body. Tissue transglutaminase is a critical part of how the body functions, and specifically, how the tight junctions in the microvilli (think hairy fingers) in our gut are formed. When tTG interacts with gliadin, it creates antibodies - enzyme that is such an important part of our body is now bad - body attacks itself. Celiac disease is one of the most well-known gluten-related diseases, and those with the disease are advised to avoid more than wheat. ● Roughly 1% of people have celiac disease- Besides wheat, the following grains contain prolamins: Grain Prolamin Protein Wheat Gliadin Barley Hordein Oats Avenin Corn Zein Rye Secalin Sorghum Karirin Not all prolamins are believed to trigger celiac disease - the main ones are those from wheat, barley, and rye. Oats can be a trigger for some. So how do prolamins and gluten relate? ● The prolamin gliadin in wheat is the main protein that is believed to trigger celiacs, and gliadin is one of the proteins that makes up gluten. Prolamins can cause more problems than just celiacs disease. For those who react negatively to them, they can cause: ● Brain fog ● Joint pain ● Thyroid issues ● Chronic inflammation ● Increase intestinal permeability Many of the negative effects are due to a proinflammatory immune response to prolamins. In studies it was found that an increased production of proinflammatory cytokines occurred for both celiac patients as well as healthy controls, however the impact was greater for those with celiac disease. Studies have confirmed that gluten-sensitivity exists, and many who experience IBS have gluten sensitivity. Case Study: In a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study on 34 patients with IBS and without celiac disease, it was found that those who followed the gluten-free diet experienced fewer IBS symptoms, pain, fatigue, and bloating as compared with those who consumed the gluten diet. ● 34 patients ● 6 weeks of a gluten-free diet with exception of two bread slices and one muffin per day. Either with gluten or gluten-free ● The mechanism was not discovered as tests did not generate significant differences between the groups, however the reported symptoms were significantly less for those without gluten. If you have sensitivity towards gluten, it is a good idea to replace grains with starchy vegetables, such as sweet potatoes and beets. For everyone, it is a good idea to cut grains out for a week and reintroduce them one at a time to see if you have any sensitivity. If taking thyroid medicine, have it first thing in the morning ie as soon as you wake up (keeping it near your bedside is a good option, so that you can have as soon as you wake up). After 40 mins (1 hour would be ideal) have soaked almonds. Thyroid meds take longer time to be absorbed. Raw radish does have goitrogens, however, you can eat them after being cooked, as then there goitrogenic compounds are inactivated. Do not restrict a food group, consume a variety of vegetables and fruits. Do not have apple cider vinegar in the morning along with your thyroid meds. A gap of 3 hours is ideal between acv and thyroid meds. If going for walk in the eve, have your dinner and then go and once back home have turmeric tea. Is it healthier if you cut wheat from your diet? Does wheat cause you to gain weight? Will you lose weight and feel better if you dropped the wheat? I'm thinking of getting on a healthier diet. Should I go wheat free? You mean gluten-free? Or are you allergic to wheat? No, I'm not allergic to wheat. I've heard of the health benefits of going wheat free. There are some people who are allergic to wheat. There are a few, especially Norwegian, have gluten intolerance and celiac disease. Wheat is toxic and causes disorders like celiac disease. Celiac disease only affects about one in a hundred people. However, a lot of quacks are saying that's why modern people are fat, ignoring the fact that civilization was built on raising grain and breaking bread. I could be allergic to it or intolerant of it. A wheat allergy is an immune system reaction to wheat, just like some people cannot handle cat dander or ragweed. Gluten intolerance isn't diagnosed with a simple allergy test, more of a check list of symptoms. Wheat allergy, celiac disease, gluten intolerance -- what's the difference? If you have a wheat allergy, you can eat other foods with gluten like rye. Celiac disease damage the intestines and can only be diagnosed via a biopsy. I could go wheat free and avoid gluten. Wheat-free doesn't mean gluten free But food companies label it, because wheat allergy is one of the top eight allergies. Are you saying I shouldn't give up wheat? There are doctors who recommend a bread-free and low starch diet to force weight loss. A slice of beef with lettuce and tomatoes is healthy, while adding two slices of white bread tacks on 300 mostly empty calories. That's like the Atkins diet. Giving up dinner rolls quietly shaves 200 calories off dinner. If you can't eat muffins, you eat more yogurt and fruit at breakfast. Wheat free will make me healthier. Going gluten free often means skipping enriched flour foods that contain iron, niacin and other minerals lacking in the modern diet. What do you think I should do? Skip the extra dinner rolls and eat more fruits and vegetables. And don't be so intolerant of wheat, because your attitude is toxic.

Everywhere you look these days, experts are telling you not to eat gluten. What’s up with this food and do you really need to avoid it? Here’s the deal: for thousands of years, wheat and other grain were a healthy staple in our diets. Grain, including wheat, an ancient, 10,000-year-old food staple has become toxic junk food, though. You can blame this sad fact on the industrialization of the farming and food manufacturing industries. First, we started to mill the whole wheat kernel into highly processed white flower – removing parts of the plant to make the wheat flour that is used commonly today in thousands food products. Before this process was industrialized, though, the entire kernel of wheat was ground on a stone, keeping the entire plant intact. This is where the nutrients of wheat were derived. Once steel rollers came into play, the wheat had to be separated from its shaft, to make “fancy flour” as it was called, and then laid out to be smashed up into a product we could consume. Without the entire wheat kernel (including the bran, germ, shorts, and red dog mill streams) that are richest in proteins, vitamins, lipids and minerals, we ended up with a beautiful white powder that is now making everyone sick. This is gluten. But that wasn’t enough. Wheat next underwent “advancements” like genetic modification and being sprayed with tons of toxic chemical herbicides before being harvested, just before harvest, and even sometimes once it was on a truck to be shipped across the world to be ground into more white flour, devoid of any nutrients. The wheat flour we eat today is now not only completely absent of its original nutrition, but is highly toxic due to the copious amounts of chemical herbicides, fertilizers, and pesticides used on it. So, do you want to eat white, processed gluten? It’s up to you. A better option is to stick to grains that are still whole – and thus retain their nutrients. It’s also a good idea to seek out buckwheat, amaranth, quinoa, teff, barley, and other grains that have been grown without Genetically Modified seeds and without chemical herbicides. You may not seem to be affected by eating pure white flour, but if gluten isn’t for you, you’ll know simply by removing it from your diet for a few weeks and noticing any changes in your energy and health.

I'm going to give you an unbiased review, and I'm going to look at different things. I'm not just going to look at the cholesterol side of things, I want to look at omega profiles, I want to look at sulfur, I want to look at glutathione. I want to talk about the egg diet in a different light, and help you understand truly what it is. This is completely unbiased. I don't do the egg diet. Anyhow, if you don't follow me already, my name's Thomas DeLauer. Go ahead and hit that subscribe button if you want to get three to five awesome nutrition and workout coaching videos per week. If you are already a follower, make sure you turn on those notifications so you never miss a video. All right, so first off, what the heck is the egg diet? I'll give you my first off honest impression of the egg diet. It's something that's been sort of manufactured to piggy-back off of the keto diet. People are seeing that the keto diet is successful, and that it's getting popular, so people are starting to make different spinoffs with the same general underlying principles. Ultimately, the egg diet is more of a mono-diet. It's where you really focus on eggs as your primary source of fuel, if not your only source of fuel. Some people eating upwards of two dozen eggs per day, you can pretty darn aggressive. The whole idea here is that eggs supposedly have the abundant nutrient profile that you need to survive, and the perfect ratio of fats to protein. Some of that I'm not going to argue with, okay? If you have really truly good quality eggs, you can get a nice nutrient profile from them, and sure, the fat to protein ratio is quite nice, and supports a general ketogenic lifestyle, but there are some other things that we really have to look at. First off, it's never good to get your food from just one source. What's going to happen is your body's ultimately going to start to develop antibodies to it, and it's going to happen very fast. As we start to consume something over, and over, and over again, our bodies do start to create antibodies to it. It does start to create a reaction, basing specific IGE, and IGG responses within the body. These IGG responses make it so that your body signals an immune attack whenever you're eating this food in the future. This is the same kind of thing that happens with gluten intolerance. For example, back in the 1950s, we didn't have much of an issue with gluten, believe it or not. Nowadays, we have an issue with gluten. It's not so much that gluten has changed a whole lot, it's more so that we have over consumed wheat to the point where we're developing antibodies to it. Well this happens at a smaller scale, very aggressively, and very fast if you consume the same food, especially only that food. But let's talk about something different. I want to talk more so about the omega profile, omega-3s versus omega-6s. Eggs are generally about 1% omega-3, and over 14% omega-6. Now you might hear the word omega and automatically think that it's a good thing, but here's the thing, omega-6s are not good in high amounts, not good at all. In fact, very, very detrimental, so much so that there are multiple studies that link omega-6s with inflammation, and terrible conditions within the body. What's the problem, why can't we just modulate that omega-6 with something else? Well, here's the thing, we need to be in equal balance of omega-3, and omega-6s. If we're consistently consuming a food that is higher in omega-6s, than the omega-3s, it's skewing that balance in our body. What exactly happens with omega-6s then? Omega-6s are what are called a pro-inflammatory fat. It is literally their job to signal inflammation at specific periods of time. Omega-6s help support the immune system. Buy vegan products. • Do basic cooking; cooking from scratch with whole foods (not processed foods, like pasta). • The crock-pot can be very useful for cooking. • Prepare gluten free cupcakes in advance and freeze them and then they are available for special occasions. • Shop at health food stores to avoid foods with chemicals in them and to get highly nutritious organic food. Wheat belly - http://www.livebrightandhealthy.com - Wondering what is wheat belly or beer belly? It is that ugly roll of belly fat around your mid section. This fat also surrounds the organs in your body cavity like, the liver, stomach and intestines and is called visceral fats. This is different from subcutaneous fat which is the fat just under your skin. Visceral fat is like an alien gland. It actually sends out signals like other glands in your body. But the signals sent by your bloated gut are pathogenic and can lead to diseases like high blood pressure, skin problems, anxiety, depression, lethargy, leaky gut syndrome, dementia, diabetes type 2 and auto-immune diseases. Wheat and wheat-like grains have been genetically modified to such a great extent that our bodies have not evolved enough to keep up with the changes in the make-up of grains. This leads to wheat allergy, celiac disease and gluten allergy. Even eating organic whole grain wheat is not going to help. It has a high glycemic index, which means it is converting carbs fast into glucose and passing into your blood to cause sugar spikes. In real terms, one slice of whole wheat bread has a higher glycemic index than sugar. An even bigger eye opener, is Nutella and Snickers have a lower glycemic index than wheat in all its forms. Wheat comes in many disguises. Bulgur, farina, kamut, semolina, durum flour, einkorn, spelt and triticale are all wheat. The problem is not limited to just these grains but includes rye, barley and oats cultivated with wheat. They are all gluten grains. During digestion, the protein in the gluten, produces a drug like effect, making you crave for more such grains. So to lose belly fat, dump wheat and its kindred and try buckwheat, which despite its name, is not a grain but belongs to the sorrel, knotweeds, rhubarb family. Amaranth, sorghum, quinoa, arrowroot are other gluten free grain. They come as gluten free flours too. Brown rice is okay but not white rice which has a high glycemic index. Try basmati instead. It has a low glycemic index. Try a wheat free, gluten free diet for about two weeks and you will really see and feel the changes to your body. Your skin will be clearer.
