Certain foods are thought to be inflammatory, which may increase the damaging immune activity. Avoiding certain food groups may help to decrease the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. 1 - Gluten: A protein complex contained primarily in wheat, but also in some other grain products such as barley and rye. Gluten allergy contributes to the development of an inflammatory condition known as celiac disease, which has led natural health practitioners to propose that elimination of gluten from the diet will help with other inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. Elimination of gluten grain-based foods such as wheat breads, pastas and pastries may decrease the chance of increased inflammation. Products such as rice, corn and legume-based flours may be substituted. 2 - Dairy. Dairy products are known to cause lactose intolerance in people who cannot digest the milk sugar. One of the first mechanisms of the immune system is the presence of IgE in the digestive tract, so consumption of a food that is not well tolerated may increase the activity of inflammatory processes and the immune system. In addition, dairy products contain the protein casein, which may be intolerable for some people. Substitution of dairy products with soy-based products such as soy milk- yogurt and cheeses may be advisable. 3 - Red Meat and Poultry: Red meat and poultry are high in omega-6 fatty acids, which have been shown to increase inflammation. On the other hand, omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce inflammation. Reducing the amount of red meat and poultry in the diet and replacing it with oily, meaty fish high in omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon or tuna may help to reduce inflammation. 4 - Nightshade Vegetables: Nightshade vegetables including tomatoes, peppers and potatoes are thought by some to increase inflammatory responses in the body. Though no clinical studies are yet available in 2010 to support this claim, some claim to have experienced relief by eliminating nightshade vegetables from the diet. 5 - Refined Sugars: Excessive consumption of refined sugars, including white sugar, brown sugar and corn syrup, may increase the acidity of the body. Some natural health practitioners have recommended that refined sugar be avoided in cases of inflammatory disease such as rheumatoid arthritis. Substitution with natural sugar alternatives such as stevia, agave nectar, fruit juice concentrates and honey may help to reduce inflammatory processes. An overall reduction of any type of sugar can also be recommended to avoid rapid increases in blood sugar, which may interfere with inflammatory processes. 6 - Fried and processed foods: Researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai report, "cutting back on the consumption of processed and fried foods, which are high in toxins called Advanced Glycation End products , can reduce inflammation and actually help restore the body’s natural defenses regardless of age or health status." 7 - Excess salt: Arthritis Today reports Americans consume more than eight times more salt than what the body actually needs which can result in water retention, dehydration, and hypertension. "People with rheumatoid arthritis may be at higher risk for salt’s effects. rheumatoid arthritis can cause coronary arteries to become inflamed, increasing the risk of hypertension. Corticosteroids, commonly used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, cause the body to retain more sodium." It has been reported that salt can act as a trigger food and can make the symptoms of arthritis worse.

It is an inflammation of the joints, either one or more in your body. Pain, stiffness, swelling, redness, decreased the range of motion are some of the symptoms of arthritis. There are many different forms of arthritis, and there is no cure for this disease, but there is a possibility to control and make our life without problems. Fortunately, there are some useful home remedies to treat Arthritis. Home Remedies for Rheumatoid Arthritis Turmeric Turmeric, a yellow spice that contains a potent compound called curcumin, which helps heal inflammation. It is primarily used to reduce pain and swelling in people who are suffering from arthritis. Therefore, take turmeric regularly, either in capsules or water turmeric or turmeric cooked or turmeric mixed in warm milk and drink this milk before going to bed for sleep to gain control over pain. Apple cider vinegar Apple cider vinegar is rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus which are essential to relieve joint pain. So, grab a cup of warm water and add a teaspoon of ACV and honey in it. Mix it with water and drink it in the morning to remove toxins build up in the joints and connective tissues. Ginger Ginger can increase blood flow and also acts as anti-inflammatory eliminating inflammatory chemicals away from painful joints. Therefore, consuming ginger regularly helps a lot to cure arthritis. Take half a teaspoon of ginger powder or 30 grams (about six teaspoons) of fresh ginger once a day. Green Tea Green tea contains a chemical compound called quercetin, a powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant to prevent or alleviate the symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis. According to the Study of Women's Health in Iowa, it is clear that women who drank three or more cups of this green tea per day are 60 percent less likely to develop Rheumatoid Arthritis and its symptoms rather than women who do not drink this green tea. Therefore, drink it regularly at regular intervals to get rid of this problem. Cinnamon Cinnamon helps give relief from arthritis pain and symptoms. Therefore, take a half teaspoon of cinnamon powder and one tablespoon of honey. Mix these two in a cup of warm water and drink this regularly in the morning on an empty stomach. Cloves Cloves have an inflammatory chemical called eugenol against which helps heal the pain of arthritis. It also contains antioxidants that give relief from pain and inflammation that was caused by arthritis. Therefore, intake of teeth in any way challenging helps you a lot in reducing pain. Alfalfa Alfalfa is one of the herbs that are rich in minerals and helps regulate pH levels to cure people suffering from arthritis. You can make a tea by adding some alfalfa seeds in a cup of boiling water and allowed to stir and let stand for a few minutes. Then strain the tea and drink twice a day for about 2 to 3 weeks to reduce inflammation. Massage Regular massage helps arthritic joints to reduce pain and stiffness. Massage will help to improve their movement and makes you feel better to do the job. First, consult your doctor and then proceed to work with your physical therapist or massage therapist. Borage Borage oil contains anti-inflammatory properties that help relieve arthritis and its symptoms. Therefore, take a few drops of this oil seeds and massage the affected part to get heals painful and swollen joints. Turmeric Powder And Coconut Oil : Mix one spoon of turmeric powder with a sufficient amount of coconut oil. Make a paste and apply it on the affected area. Baking Soda May Help Reduce Arthritis & Other Inflammatory Conditions
It’s important for your overall health to maintain proper pH balance in the human body. An environment that’s too alkaline or too acidic can result in a wide array of health problems and negative physical symptoms. Experts say baking soda can help to alkalize a too-acidic environment in the body. Many holistic and naturopathic doctors, as well as nutritionists, and dietitians tout the idea that an alkaline body environment is better than an acidic one, and while that’s true in general, it’s important to note that being too far at either end of the spectrum can result in medical woes. The Journal of Immunology published a study, which concluded that drinking water mixed with baking soda could possibly reduce someone’s chances of getting illnesses such as RA. Paul O’Connor, PhD, an associate professor and director of the physiology graduate program at Augusta University in Georgia who was the lead author on the study, introduced baking soda to two cases of test subjects. These tests subjects included both healthy humans and rats. After two weeks of the baking soda and water mixture, scientists found that their immune cells (macrophages) appeared to change jobs. Researchers said that the macrophages began to focus on reducing inflammation instead of promoting it. Essentially, the baking soda acted as a way to naturally stimulate or “turn on” the macrophages’ anti-inflammatory response. Illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis could benefit from these anti-inflammatory properties. Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, basically tells the body to calm down its response. Instead, it helps to strengthen the anti-inflammatory response. So, cells from the spleen and stomach can tell a faulty immune system that there’s likely no need to turn itself on, only to attack. The baking soda seemed to alert macrophages and mesothelial cells that the body wasn’t under actual attack. The researchers noted a shift from inflammatory actions to anti-inflammatory ones in the stomach, spleen, kidney, and peripheral blood. The shifting landscape is likely due to an increased conversion of proinflammatory cells to anti-inflammatory, plus the production of more anti-inflammatory macrophages and a shift in regulatory T cells. This combination of processes drives down the immune response and could help to keep the immune system from attacking its own tissues. This could be an inexpensive, safe, accessible, and effective way to treat conditions such as RA and other inflammatory conditions — but you should always talk to your doctor before starting a regimen like this. People who are in danger of alkalosis wouldn’t benefit from ingesting sodium bicarbonate or further alkalizing their body’s pH levels. In addition, research has discovered that maintaining sufficient vitamin D levels may help to prevent rheumatoid arthritis. Intermittent fasting is a tool that is used frequently in the fitness space to maintain muscle while burning fat. The idea is to go without food for a period of time so that you deplete your immediate energy sources, ie your blood glucose and liver glycogen stores, so your body is forced into fat-burning mode. It also boosts human growth hormone, which is known to play a role in bone strength and lean body mass. Two approaches: Full Day Fast or Daily Fast- We are discovering that not only does IF help with fitness goals, but it also has an effect on inflammation. Inflammation is involved in many of today’s chronic conditions, including gastrointestinal diseases, arthritis, obesity, asthma and cancer. We experience inflammation when our body is trying to heal itself, but when the reaction becomes chronic, negative health impacts occur. Fasting and Inflammation- Inflammation is a major cause of musculoskeletal disorders, ranging from short term back pain to arthritis and osteoporosis. One study on rheumatoid arthritis found that fasting reduced the inflammatory symptoms of RA. 14 individuals with RA were studied before and after a 1 week fast. It was found that fasting reduced the release of leukotriene B4 from RA neutrophils, reduced the generation of cytotaxins from serum and altered the phospholipid fatty acid composition. Leukotriene B4 (LTB4) plays an important role in several cellular processes involved in inflammation, including oxidative metabolism, enzyme release and stimulation of neutrophil migration and aggregation. It is known that altering your lipid intake changes the phospholipid fatty acid composition of cell membranes. This has an impact on the precursor substance content for the production of inflammatory leukotrienes. It has been shown that a diet high in fish oil decreases the production of LTB4, so this experiment wanted to see how total calorie reduction would impact this. It was also shown that the phospholipid composition changed with a resulting reduction of LTB4 production. No adverse effects of fasting were found in the study, only lightheadedness and a bit of weakness during the fasting period. Several other studies have shown that a calorie restriction diet, which is reducing your calories without malnutrition, reduce inflammatory markers. This occurred through the reduction of inflammatory cytokine production, including reduced tumor necrosis factor and interleukin-6. Studies have shown anti-inflammatory effect of CR on the brain tissue (hypothalamus), serum, liver and heart. Chronic inflammation can harm every part of our bodies, including the brain. Chronic neuroinflammation is typical in many neurodegenerative diseases, including depression and Alzheimer’s. In a 2015 study on rats it was found that IF reduced the risk of damage to brain function in both younger and older rats when looking at neurodegenerative diseases linked to central nervous system inflammation. Researchers at the Yale School of Medicine conducted a study on mice in 2015 and found that beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) produced by fasting inhibits NLRP3, a set of proteins known as the inflammasome. The inflammatory response in several disorders is driven by the inflammasome. These disorders include auto-inflammatory disorders, Alzheimer’s, type 2 diabetes and autoimmune disorders.
