Certification through the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), is achieved as the result of a comprehensive, individualized review process that verifies a physician's adherence to national standards of excellence in caring for patients diagnosed with diabetes. OOO but lets not forget the great lunch after his stress test of beef , mash potatoes and gravy. Dinner a piece salmon which is great but was breaded and then a big bake potato, roll, and angel food cake.. and that with a confirmed text of high sugar blood count..

Diabetes Health and Wellness Institute Grand Opening - DiabetesDallas
The Diabetes Health and Wellness Institute at Juanita J. Craft Recreation Center in South Dallas opened its doors on June 7, 2010 with a grand opening celebration. This video gives you a taste of the grand opening festivities, including a farmer's market behind the facility, the ribbon cutting and speeches by Joel Allison, President and CEO of Baylor Health Care System, and Tom Leppert, the mayor of the City of Dallas. South Dallas residents are 30 percent more likely to be admitted to a hospital due to diabetes or a diabetes-related condition than other city residents. In fact by 2010, 13 percent of those living in South Dallas will be diabetic. To combat this diabetes epidemic, Baylor Health Care System is reaching out to the neighborhood, transforming the Juanita J. Craft Recreation center into the area's first and only diabetes health and wellness institute. Baylor has invested $15 million in the project with the mission of saving lives through improved diabetes care, education and research and hopes DHWI will serve as a new possible model for the diabetes-care nationwide.
University of Alabama at Birmingham Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center
Strategically located in the heart of the South, the UAB Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center provides a critical connection between investigators and vulnerable populations. Nowhere are such health gaps more evident than in the Mid-South, home to some of America’s poorest communities. These communities lack resources as basic as a clean environment, access to grocery stores, and safe streets. Their residents are exposed to multiple daily stressors and bear the heavy burden of chronic diseases. But the MHRC brings hope to these vulnerable populations. Using an interdisciplinary and collaborative research approach, we work to understand and address the root causes of health differences at national, regional and local levels. Leading this effort is the Mid-South Transdisciplinary Collaborative Center. This consortium of academic institutions in six states, led by UAB MHRC, works to lift the chronic disease burden borne by African Americans through innovative research, evidence-based interventions, and community partnerships. Closer to home is a project called Birmingham REACH for Better Health, with local agencies offering better food choices and fitness opportunities for Birmingham’s most vulnerable communities. Through REACH, thousands of our neighbors are joining us on the path to better health. Navigating health care systems is challenging, especially for patients who might not understanding chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer, or heart disease and how to manage them. For the women in Alabama’s rural Black Belt counties fighting breast cancer, UAB’s Patient Navigators help them overcome the challenges. These community health workers know the culture and challenges of the communities they serve and are uniquely suited to build bridges between patients and health care professionals. http://uab.edu/medicine/mhrc
