How to cook sweet potato

01:27
Sweet potatoes are rich in several essential nutrients like potassium, calcium, and vitamins A, C, and B-complex. All of these are important for your baby’s growing body and brain. And sweet potatoes are simple to make! Here are steps to cook sweet potato for your baby: Step 1: Wash, peel and cut your sweet potato If you’re using frozen sweet potato, you can skip this step. But if you’re using fresh sweet potato, rinse the sweet potato with water, peel it, and cut it into small chunks. Step 2: Boil the sweet potato Place the sweet potato chunks into a medium pot, cover with water and bring water to a boil. Reduce heat until the sweet potato is soft (about 15 minutes). Drain and let cool. As a tip, to speed up the cooling process you can rinse the sweet potato with cold water. Step 3: Puree or serve as a finger food For a smoother texture, you can puree the sweet potato in a blender. Add water, breast milk or infant formula and blend until it is smooth. If your baby is already enjoying soft finger foods, you can simply offer him or her bite-sized pieces of soft sweet potato. And that’s it! Enjoy! And remember, talk to your child’s pediatrician or health care provider about any questions or concerns. Primitive Technology: Sweet potato patch

06:26
I built a fenced enclosure and cultivated sweet potatoes (from civilisation) and yams (from the wild) in it. I originally had a small 3X3 m garden behind the wattle and daub hut that already had some sweet potato and yam vines growing in it that were planted after the hut was built. But wallabies kept eating the leaves. So I made a wattle enclosure around it to keep them out. Wood ash was added to the soil to provide potassium and phosphorus for the growing tubers. The previous small garden was organised in rows (not seen in this video) but this was hard to water during dry weather. So I re-organised the patch into 1 meter wide mounds with pits in the centre. Vines were planted into the mounds and water poured into the centre of each mound watered the vines. So then I had a small garden with 9 mounds contained within it. I decided to enlarge the patch to fit in more mounds so I took out 2 sides of the fence and extended them by a meter each. So the patch ended up being 4X4m and contained 16 mounds. In addition to wood ash, leaf mould was added to the mounds for fertility and to reduce loss of moisture. The patch, being in the dark forest understory, received only about 2-3 hours of direct sunlight per day so the yield was disappointingly small. Nevertheless, the patch produced a few small sweet potatoes and a single larger yam. I also picked some green growing tips of the sweet potato vine that can also be eaten. I boiled the greens slightly in a pot with a hot stone and ate the leaves. I then roasted the sweet potatoes and yam in the coals of the fire. The sweet potatoes (purple fleshed tuber) taste sweet and starchy whereas the yam (white fleshed tuber) tastes similar to an ordinary potato. After eating, I took the wood ash from the fire and poured it back into the mounds that were harvested, replanted them and watered them. In future I’d plant the sweet potatoes in an area that receives much more sunlight in order to dramatically increase production. I’ve grown the same variety at home and it produces a much greater quantity and size of tubers in full sun. Wood ash also tends to increase tuber yield and so is a good use for waste ash. The sweet potato is a remarkable plant. It’s a staple food of many traditional cultures. NASA has considered it a potential crop to be grown on spaceships for long term missions. In terms of energy production it’s only 3rd behind sugar cane and cassava. It produces the most food value (a combination of edible energy and nutrition) of any crop per unit space and time. A study of Fijian farms using manual labour showed that ratio of energy put into farming vs yield of energy was 1:17 for rice and 1:60 for sweet potato. It grows on marginal soil and doesn’t require much nitrogen to grow. It takes a relatively short growth period of 3-4 months to yield. All parts of the plant can be eaten including the leaves which provide additional protein and nutrients. I grow the purple variety (because it tastes better in my opinion) but all varieties are nutritious and will stave off malnutrition. A person could potentially be nearly self-sufficient from a small plot of sweet potatoes. Note that in colder climates, regular potatoes could be grown instead of sweet potatoes. 07:56
Foods that can kill you Potatoes - Potato plant poisoning occurs when someone eats the green tubers or new sprouts of the potato plant. Solanine is a dangerous nerve toxin that is produced in any green part of the potato, that includes leaves, stems, and any green part of the potato. Ackee - Ackee is a tropical fruit native to West Africa and is the national fruit of Jamaica where it is also known for its toxin content named hypoglycin A and hypoglycin B. Hypoglycin A is found in both the seeds and the arils, while hypoglycin B is found only in the seeds. These toxin compounds are responsible for causing Ackee Fruit Toxicity or Jamaican Vomiting Sickness. Bitter Almonds -Sweet almonds may be safe to eat, but bitter almonds aren't. Bitter almonds are wild almonds and contain 50 times more cyanide per kilogram than sweet almonds, according to the 2013 study in ISRN Toxicology. Eating 50 bitter almonds can be deadly. If you've been exposed to a small amount of cyanide, you may experience dizziness, headaches, nausea, vomiting, rapid breathing and rapid heart rate. As the green, unripe fruit of tomatoes, as well as the leaves, and stems, contain highest amounts of the poison alkaloid called tomatine and solanine. Cherries - Cherries are good for your health but if you chew or swallow their pits then they might put you in a real danger. Their pits contain cyanogenic glycosides, producing cyanide. The seeds, bark, and leaves contain a cyanide-producing compound called amygdalin. Red Kidney Beans - Red Kidney beans contain a sugar based glycoprotein called kidney bean lectin that if consumed raw or partially cooked, can produce symptoms similar to those of food poisoning. As few as 4 or 5 kidney beans can bring on symptoms within 1 to 3 hours. Symptoms include extreme nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. This toxin can be destroyed if red kidney beans are cooked at a high enough temperature and for the right length of time. Cinnamon - Cinnamon is one of the most important flavoring agents in food and drinks. Research reveals that coumarin is present, in substantial amounts in cinnamon flavored foods. If left untreated, diabetes can cause many serious long-term complications include heart disease, stroke, chronic kidney failure, foot ulcers, and damage to the eyes. What you eat can help you to control and fight your diabetes. Research proves that making a few key changes to your diet such as eating more produce, fewer refined carbohydrates, plenty of lean protein can help in improving your blood-sugar and cuts the risk of diabetes-related complications. Certain foods are packed with nutrients that stabilise blood sugar levels, protect your heart, and even save your vision from the damaging effects of diabetes. These top 10 foods can help you in controlling Diabetes. Spinach The American Diabetes Association calls spinach a diabetes super food and recommends that you regularly include this dark green leafy non-starchy vegetable in your diet. Besides being rich in vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals, spinach possesses a low glycemic index, which means eating it will help support healthy and stable blood glucose levels. Spinach is low in carbohydrates, containing only 0.83 grams per cup. The fact that spinach contains so few carbohydrates makes it an excellent choice on a diabetes diet. Broccoli Broccoli contains a compound called sulforaphane, which triggers several anti-inflammatory processes that improve blood sugar control and protect blood vessels from the cardiovascular damage that’s often a consequence of diabetes. Olive oil Olive oil is recognized as one of the healthiest edible oils since it contains less saturated fats. It is rich in Omega 9 and Omega 3 which help maintain the flexibility of blood vessels, allowing good blood flow. Olive oil, especially extra virgin, contains tyrosol phenolic compounds such as oleuropein and oleocanthal. These compounds are nature’s most powerful anti-oxidants. Sweet potatoes Sweet potatoes are a good carbohydrate choice for diabetics. The glycemic index of sweet potatoes is a lot lower, which is better for diabetes control, according to a 2002 article in the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition." Eating sweet potatoes in moderate amounts will help you keep your blood sugar levels in the healthy range even if you have diabetes. Avocados Avocados are an excellent choice for people with diabetes because they are very rich in dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals and packed with numerous health benefiting plant nutrients. Blueberries Blueberries contain both insoluble fiber (which “flushes” fat out of your system) and soluble fiber (which slows down the emptying of your stomach, and improves blood sugar control). It also contain a natural plant compound known as anthocyanins. Scientists believe these may help lower blood sugar by boosting insulin production. Tomatoes Tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin A, and vitamin K. They are also a very good source of, potassium, manganese, dietary fiber, chromium, and vitamin B1. Because of their low carbohydrate content, tomatoes can play a big role in controlling blood sugar levels. The low carbohydrate content also helps lower calorie intake and can help diabetics to lose weight. Eggs Eggs are a versatile food and a great source of protein, and the American Diabetes Association considers eggs an excellent choice for people with diabetes. Cinnamon Cinnamon spice has the highest anti-oxidant strength of all the food sources in nature. Many studies show that consumption of one teaspoon cinnamon to three teaspoons a day has a positive effect on reducing blood glucose levels. It was found that the cinnamon can make your cells more sensitive to insulin. Dates Dates are a great choice for a person with diabetes as they can help control sugar cravings, and they are low on the glycemic index. The carbohydrates in dates provide instant energy, and the high fiber contained in dates is good for digestion. This sweet desert fruit is cholesterol and fat free therefore, they serve as a great snack item. Many essential disease protective minerals are also present in dates.

How to Eat for a Six Pack (YEAR ROUND!)

07:26
Get a day by day meal plan for getting year round abs here http://athleanx.com/x/have-abs-year-round When trying to eat for a six pack, people get far too hung up in the details and wind up getting frustrated. If you want to get abs and keep them year round, you absolutely have to find a meal plan approach that you can actually stick to. Think about it, how many diets have you followed to get abs only to not be able to stay on it…and lose your six pack soon after? If you rely on carbohydrate restrictive eating plans, obsessive food measuring, macro overcomplication, etc you are just making your chances of getting ripped that much harder. In this video, I show you a simple eating technique that you can apply to any meal to ensure that you are on the right track. You divide your plate and fill it with proteins, fibrous carbs and starchy carbs (in amounts explained) while never steering away from the all important high quality incidental fats. Start off by occupying half of your plate with protein. You can choose whatever protein source you prefer the most whether it be chicken, steak, turkey, fish, lentils or any other vegetarian source if desired. You then decide the remaining half based on your given physique goals. If you are overtly overweight and need to start dropping a substantial amount of body fat, you definitely will want to not avoid carbs however you would choose mostly from fibrous sources. There are so many options to choose from but my favorite are zucchini and onions, broccoli rabe, braised carrots, and grilled asparagus to name a few. If you aren’t battling weight issues and instead are focused on building lean, ripped athletic muscle you would divide that remaining half with healthy sources of complex or starchy carbs. Again, my favorite here are sweet potatoes, pasta, and brown rice to name a few. The key to eating for a six pack (and keeping it) is choosing from foods that you actually like eating. There is no faster way to giving up on your goal of getting a six pack than by forcing yourself to eat foods you hate. Even worse, making your meal preparation a ten step process if likely to make you want to quit pretty quick as well. If you want to get a ripped six a pack year round without needing to be a trained chef to do it, I would highly recommend you check out http://athleanx.com and the ATHLEAN-X Training System. It includes the day by day X-factor meal plans to help you build muscle and burn fat at the same time. Get abs by eating a way that you can realistically eat year round. For more videos on how to get a six pack and what ab workouts you can do to help show them off, be sure to subscribe to our channel here on youtube at http://youtube.com/user/jdcav24

See What Happens When You Add Epsom Salt to Your Plants

03:51
Epsom-salt is a natural mineral that was first discovered in Epsom, England. People typically use Epsom-salt in the bathroom to relieve aches and pains or internally as a laxative, but it is also a garden additive that expert gardeners swear by. It can help you produce lush, healthy plants, flowers and trees.  Here Are 7-Amazing Reasons to use Epsom-salt in your garden. 1.Make fruit Sweeter. Epsom-salt, when added to trees, bushes and vines that produce fruit, boosts the chlorophyll inside the plant. When plants have more chlorophyll, they have more energy, when they have more energy, they produce more sugar. More-sugar means sweeter fruit for you to enjoy.  2.Tree stump remover. Tree stump removal can be costly, but if you don't have the money to get a stump removed, let Epsom-salt come to your rescue. Simply drill few holes into the stump and fill in the holes with Epsom-salt. In weeks, the stump will begin rotting. 3.Epsom-salt increases Nutrient Absorption. Many commercial fertilizers add magnesium to help plant roots take up vital nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur.) For those using all organic materials to feed their gardens, adding Epsom-salt to soil will improve absorption naturally, eliminating the need for processed chemical-fertilizers. 4.Lush lawn fertilizer. If your lawn isn't lush and beautiful, it probably needs a little magnesium in its life. To perk-up grass, add 3-pounds of Epsom-salt to every 1,250 square feet of grass and then water your-lawn. 5.Beautiful blooming roses  Ever wonder why your neighbor’s rose bushes are fuller than yours and sport so many more blossoms? It is highly likely that the answer is Epsom-salt. Epsom-salt to rose bushes encourages them to produce larger flowers with darker, deeper colors. To incorporate Epsom-salt to your rose bush's diet, add it at the time of planting and when flowers are in bloom.  6.Keep leaves green Plants that aren’t getting enough magnesium can be identified by their yellowing leaves. This is because magnesium is an essential component in the production of chlorophyll. Try sprinkling Epsom-salt around your plants to achieve healthier foliage. About 1-tablespoon per 12-inches of height once a month will benefit the plants in your vegetable-garden, as well as any trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses you want to green-up. And 7. Produce abundant nightshades. Many people enjoy growing plants from the nightshade family such as peppers, tomatoes, eggplants and potatoes. All nightshades need a lot of magnesium, so that they produce greater yields. Epsom-salt also helps improve the flavor of nightshades. To ensure the nightshades you grow in your home garden are abundant and tasty. add 1-tablespoon of Epsom-salt to your peppers and tomatoes by sprinkling it around the base of the plant. If you want the salt to dissolve more-quickly, add it to a gallon of water and water the plants with the mixture. You should continue to add the Epsom-salt to your plants every 2-weeks.  Now if you have any better ideas and suggestion of using Epsom-salt in your garden, please share them in the comments below.
