06:26
Arthritis is an inflammation or pain that can commonly occur in the fingers, elbow, knees, hip, jaw or any other area between the joints. Arthritis can lead to swelling, pain, redness, joint destruction and disability. There is no treatment for it, especially if it is rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease that causes the defense system of the body to attack itself. In this video, we'll let you know how turmeric can be used to treat arthritis. Turmeric has been in use for many centuries now as a cure for several diseases. Turmeric, its rhizome stem, is used as a traditional medicine to cure various ailments like arthritis and inflammation. Here, we have discussed how you can use turmeric along with other ingredients to cure the condition of arthritis. Turmeric contains anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, free radical removal and antioxidant properties that help in treating arthritis. Turmeric also contains curcumin that is effective in treating arthritis and its associated pain. It also helps in treating the swelling and tenderness of the joints. Turmeric also helps in blocking certain cytokines and enzymes that result in inflammation and also works as a painkiller that raises the mobility in the joints and decreases the stiffness. So, here's a gist on how to use turmeric for arthritis treatment. Continue watching to know more. 1. Turmeric And Milk : Mix one spoon of turmeric with one cup of warm milk. Drink this milk in the evening before going to sleep to get a sound sleep. Also, make sure to consume turmeric regularly to reduce the joint pain and inflammation caused by arthritis. This is also confirmed in the study 'Turmeric Extracts Containing Curcuminoids Prevent Experimental Rheumatoid Arthritis'. 2. Turmeric And Water : Add one spoon of turmeric into water. Mix it thoroughly and boil it for 15 minutes. This will help create 12% of curcumin mixture. You need to drink this solution within four hours. Else the curcumin will gradually reduce to 6% in about 6 hours. 3. Turmeric And Ginger : Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that help remove the inflammatory chemicals from the painful joints. Take half a spoon of turmeric powder and powdered ginger root. Brew them in boiling water for about 20 to 30 minutes. Drink this tea to get relief from arthritis. 4. Turmeric Powder And Coconut Oil : Mix one spoon of turmeric powder with a sufficient amount of coconut oil. Make a paste and apply it on the affected area. Leave it on for a few hours and rub it off after it dries. Repeat this to get relief from arthritis pain completely. 5. Turmeric Powder, Powdered Lime And Saltpeter (Potassium Nitrate) : Take one spoon of turmeric powder, a little powdered lime and saltpeter. Mix them well to make a paste. Apply this on the painful area and cover it with a cheese cloth. Repeat this frequently to get relief from arthritis and its symptoms. 6. Turmeric Paste : Mix ¼th cup of turmeric powder in ½ a cup of water. Simmer it over medium heat and stir until it becomes a paste. Allow it to cool down and store it in the refrigerator. Apply on the affected area and wash off with plain water. Hence, you can adopt this method to treat arthritis using turmeric. 7. Turmeric, Coconut Oil And Egg Yolk : Beat the egg yolks and melt the coconut oil. Add coconut oil into the mixture along with some turmeric powder. Use a hand blender and emulsify this mixture. Consume this mixture once or twice a day to get relief from arthritis completely. 8. Turmeric, Lemon Grass, Coconut Oil And Cayenne Pepper : Mix 5 spoons of cayenne pepper with 5 spoons of turmeric powder. Add dry organic lemon grass to it and coconut oil to it. Mix all these in an oven pan and preheat it at 150 degrees C for 3-5 hours. Strain these herbs by using a cheesecloth into a glass jar and close the lid tightly. Apply this mixture on the skin to get a good relief from arthritis pain. 9. Turmeric, Fenugreek Powder And Dried Ginger Root : Ginger contains anti-inflammatory phytonutrients called gingerols that help with fighting inflammation and arthritis. Mix one spoon each of turmeric powder, fenugreek powder and dried ginger powder. Mix all these thoroughly along with warm water. Consume this solution twice in a day to get relief. 10. Turmeric And Dimethyl Sulphate Solution : Add two spoons of turmeric powder to 1-2 spoons of dimethyl sulphate. Mix them well to make a paste and rub it over the painful joints. Wrap it with a plastic wrap and cover it with a heating pad for about 25 to 30 minutes. 11. Turmeric And Lemon Juice : Take two spoons of turmeric powder with one spoon of lemon juice. Mix them well and add it to boiling water to make a paste. Apply the paste on the affected area and leave it for a few minutes. Wash it with water and repeat this until it heals. Hence, this is the best natural remedy to treat arthritis with the help of turmeric. Video URL : https://youtu.be/izNTQDXdTUU

DESCRIPTION: Randomized controlled trial comparing the safety and efficacy of drugs versus curcumin, the yellow pigment in the spice turmeric, for the treatment of autoimmune inflammatory rheumatoid arthritis. Did you guess that's what was on the cover of my latest DVD (http://nutritionfacts.org/2013/12/05/all-of-dr-gregers-dvds-now-downloadable)? Hard to appreciate the gorgeous color of fresh turmeric root unless you see it for yourself. You should be able to find it at any large Asian store. I incorporate it into my Natural Nausea Remedy Recipe (http://nutritionfacts.org/2013/05/28/dr-gregers-natural-nausea-remedy-recipe/). The inner color is almost fluorescent! I'm afraid followers of NutritionFacts.org are going to get sick of turmeric, but there's a load of important new research I felt I needed to cover. Next I'll cover Turmeric Curcumin and Osteoarthritis (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/turmeric-curcumin-and-osteoarthritis), then move to Boosting the Bioavailability of Curcumin (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/boosting-the-bioavailability-of-curcumin), and end (for now!) with a video on Who Shouldn't Consume Curcumin or Turmeric (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/who-shouldnt-consume-curcumin-or-turmeric). Turmeric and Arthritis | Why Turmeric is useful in managing Arthritis Visit http://goo.gl/j1NJgw to know more about Arthritis pain management "Turmeric, Curcumin, And Rheumatoid Arthritis" According to the World Health Organization, 80% of the Earth's inhabitants rely upon traditional medicines for their primary health-care needs, in part due to the high cost of Western pharmaceuticals.Medicines derived from plants have played a pivotal role in the health care of both ancient and modern cultures. One of the prime sources of plant-derived medicines is spices. Turmeric is one such spice known around the world by different names. Turmeric is the dried powdered root stalks of the turmeric plant, a member of the ginger family, from which the orange-yellow pigment curcumin can be extracted. The spice turmeric is what makes curry powder yellow, and curcumin is what makes turmeric yellow. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic is a systemic inflammatory disorder that causes progressive destruction of the cartilage and bone of joints. The long-term prognosis of RA is poor with as much as 80% of patients affected becoming disabled with a reduction of years in life expectancy. There's lots of drugs one can take, but unfortunately they're often associated with severe side effects including blood loss, and bone loss, and bone marrow suppression, and toxicity to the liver and eyes. There's got to be a better way. Well, efficacy of curcumin was first demonstrated over 30 years ago. Forty-five patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis were randomized into three groups: curcumin, the standard of care drug, or both. The primary endpoint was a reduction in disease activity, as well as a reduction in joint tenderness and swelling. All three groups got better, but interestingly the curcumin groups showed the highest percentage of improvement, significantly better than those in the drug group. The findings are significant, demonstrating that curcumin alone was not only safe and effective, but surprisingly more effective in alleviating any pain compared to the leading drug of choice, all without any apparent adverse side effects. In fact curcumin appeared protective, given that there were more adverse reactions in the drug group than the combined drug and curcumin group. In contrast to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, curcumin has no gastrointestinal side effects and may even protect the lining of the stomach. ======================================================= Related videos Why Arthritis Causes Pain https://youtu.be/ooDzTErR3iI How to Choose A Pair of Compression Gloves https://youtu.be/cydMzegFTOg 7 foods to avoid in arthritis https://youtu.be/j1kP6I-YWqA Arthritis Pain Relief In 9 Simple Ways | Arthritis Treatment Natural Way https://youtu.be/x7Q9n8JLZRw Arthritis facts | Seven Facts About Arthritis | Rheumatoid Arthritis Facts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HriWKghw81k ======================================================= Read interesting articles on Best Compression Gloves What is Arthritis: http://bestcompressiongloves.com/what-is-arthritis/ Why Compression Gloves Are Really Helpful in Treatment For Arthritis? http://bestcompressiongloves.com/why-compression-gloves-are-really-helpful-in-treatment-for-arthritis/ 5 Simple Things You Can Do to Help in Treatment For Arthritis: http://bestcompressiongloves.com/5-things-you-can-do-to-help-treatment-for-arthritis/ Visit http://bestcompressiongloves.com for more arthritis related news. Joints are especially susceptible to wear and tear because of the movement and pressure that are necessarily applied to them.Joints are where two bones meet. They are connected with ligaments, tendons, and cartilage to each other and the surrounding muscles. The knee joint is the largest in the human body. It handles a tremendous amount of stress as it allows lower body mobility while supporting the upper body. Over time, the cartilage at the end of the bones that form the joint can deteriorate. In addition, there are fluid sacs in the knee capsule to keep the joint lubricated. These bursae can become irritated or inflamed if injured, resulting in bursitis. There are many potential causes for knee joint pain: Osteoarthritis – a chronic condition that occurs when the cartilage between bones breaks down Rheumatoid arthritis – an autoimmune disease that affects joints, causing swelling Bursitis – inflammation of fluid sacs either in front or directly behind the kneecap Immuno-inflammatory conditions Injury/over-use Infection Tendonitis – inflammation of tendons Gout – a form of arthritis in which uric acid accumulates and crystals of it settle in a joint Fortunately for our knees, there are natural remedies to reduce inflammation and ease the pain. The following recipe is a knee joint pain relieving rub. It contains effective anti-inflammatories and analgesics. Let’s look at what’s in it. 1. Cayenne. Cayenne has been used by Native Americans for millennia for pain relief. Capsaicin is a phytochemical in this spicy pepper that relieves pain through a variety of mechanisms. First, capsaicin blocks chemical pain transmitter “substance P” from reaching the brain. Second, when applied topically, it penetrates the skin to defunctionalize fibers that respond to pain stimuli. Through the skin, capsaicin stops nerves fibers from feeling pain and transmitting it. The capsaicin in cayenne is also effective for inflammatory skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. Cayenne works to relieve inflammation when taken internally as well. 2. Apple Cider Vinegar. Supremely beneficial for human health in a wide range of applications, ACV is a potent anti-inflammatory that can relieve joint stiffness. The acetic acid in ACV penetrates the skin and can help to break up acid crystals that can form in the joint. Acetic acid has also been found to provide effective relief for tendonitis and other joint inflammation. (2) Additionally, unfiltered ACV contains bone-supporting minerals calcium, magnesium, potassium, and phosphorus. 3. Olive Oil. Anti-inflammatory and emollient, olive oil is a wonderful carrier oil. 4. Ginger. A potent anti-inflammatory, the phytochemical gingerol inhibits excessive immune response that results in inflammation. A 2014 study of the daily topical application of ginger on joints of people with osteoarthritis (OA) resulted in pain relief within a week and continued for the 24-week duration of the study. Natural Rub Recipe for Bone, Knee and Joint Pain You can apply this paste on any joint to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. You may want to experiment with the recipe and mix half the amount of ACV with the olive oil; sometimes the rub can be quite strong and the olive oil will lessen heat and make the paste easier to apply. All of these ingredients will also reduce inflammation if you eat them. Please note that cayenne can stain fabrics, so take care around adjacent clothing. Turmeric: How Can It Help Prevent and Treat Arthritis? By Fresh Body Mind

Almost half of us will be diagnosed with some kind of arthritis in our lifetime, whether it’s osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia or even gout. So it’s clear that arthritis is something to be concerned about. Yet so many of us assume the disease is an inevitable part of growing old, or something that runs in the family. However, scientists are discovering that this just isn’t true. Recent studies have shown that arthritis has far more to do with lifestyle than it does genetics, meaning it’s possible to slow down its onset. That’s where turmeric comes in. Boasting natural anti-inflammatory properties, its effectiveness in preventing arthritis is gaining attention from experts around the world. And rightly so. This superfood has been shown to help ease joint pain and help flexibility, making it an important weapon in the fight against arthritis. What Is Arthritis? Arthritis takes a few different forms, but the most common is osteoarthritis (OA), affecting a third of people aged 45 and over. This type sees the wearing away of bone cartilage, which cushions the joint. As it erodes, the cartilage becomes roughened, reducing flexibility and making it painful to move the joint. At the more severe end of the spectrum is rheumatoid arthritis – an autoimmune disease that causes swelling in the joints. Along with pain, sufferers can also develop flu-like feelings, tiredness and depression. Perhaps worst of all, patients usually require lifelong treatment, which could involve physical therapy, powerful drugs and even surgery. Clearly, arthritis isn’t simply a case of achy joints, but a source of great stress, worry and pain for many people. But thankfully there are steps we can take to keep our joints healthy, starting with one humble root: turmeric. How Can Turmeric Help? Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties have been celebrated for thousands of years. Starting with its use as a medicine in South East Asia some 4,000 years ago, this bright orange root is used as a spice and medicine to this day. And thankfully, with a growing interest in natural remedies in the western world, more funding has been pumped into finding exactly what it is that makes turmeric a superfood – and exactly how it can be used to prevent and treat arthritis. There are dozens of clinical studies into the effectiveness of curcumin – the potent phytochemical found in turmeric – in reducing swelling. But one of the most convincing was carried out in 2007 and published in the International Journal of Molecular Medicine. This research showed that if consumed frequently, curcumin can significantly decrease the levels of the COX enzyme and prostaglandin E2 in the body, helping prevent inflammatory cykotines from attacking joint tissues. Many doctors have also reported shock at how well arthritic patients have responded to a daily dose of turmeric. In one study of 367 people, researchers even found that patients treated with 1,500mg of turmeric extract per day reported the same improvement as those treated with ibuprofen. Increase Your Absorption of Turmeric While there’s nothing wrong with adding an extra spoonful of turmeric to your curries, roast veggies or even lattes, there are several steps you can take to give your body the helping hand it needs to absorb curcumin. Make an anti-inflammatory tea Ginger is another awesome anti-inflammatory ingredient, so try mixing it with turmeric to fight swelling and stiffness. Combining the two in an invigorating tea is one of the best ways to enjoy these superfood ingredients. Just brew a one-inch piece of ginger with a teaspoon of turmeric powder for 15 minutes, then strain the tea and sweeten with honey. Take turmeric in between meals If you want turmeric to target joint pain rather than digestion, try to take it in between meals rather than with them. This should enhance the curcumin’s ability to reduce pain and stiffness due to inflammation. Use turmeric topically to help reduce pain and stiffness You don’t just have to eat or drink turmeric to enjoy its full benefits – it also makes an effective topical treatment for arthritic joints too. Just mix together one tablespoon of turmeric powder and enough coconut oil to make a paste, apply to the problem area, cover with a bandage and leave for three hours. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from the sales of his books, DVDs, and speaking engagements go to support the 501c3 nonprofit that runs NutritionFacts.org.) DESCRIPTION: The yellow pigment curcumin in the spice turmeric may work as good or better than anti-inflammatory drugs and pain killers for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. What about rheumatoid arthritis? That was my last video, Turmeric Curcumin and Rheumatoid (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/turmeric-curcumin-and-rheumatoid-arthritis). Next, I'll cover Boosting the Bioavailability of Curcumin (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/boosting-the-bioavailability-of-curcumin) and then end with some caveats (Who Shouldn't Consume Curcumin or Turmeric, http://nutritionfacts.org/video/who-shouldnt-consume-curcumin-or-turmeric). I think the only other video I have on osteoarthritis is Rose Hips for Osteoarthritis (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/dietary-osteoarthritis-treatment). Those unfamiliar with the China study should read it (http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/54905518)! I also mention it in my video China Study on Sudden Cardiac Death (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/china-study-on-sudden-cardiac-death/). If, as described, oxidative stress and inflammation both play a role in joint inflammation, then that may help explain the role of turmeric. See my recent videos Which Spices Fight Inflammation? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/which-spices-fight-inflammation) and Spicing Up DNA Protection (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/spicing-up-dna-protection). I'd also add nuts (Fighting Inflammation in a Nut Shell, http://nutritionfacts.org/video/fighting-inflammation-in-a-nut-shell/) and mushrooms (Boosting Immunity While Reducing Inflammation, http://nutritionfacts.org/video/boosting-immunity-while-reducing-inflammation/) to the list of anti-inflammatory plant foods. How To Reduce Inflammation And Boost Your Immune System With Turmeric

05:23
How To Reduce Inflammation And Boost Your Immune System With Turmeric Stop Irritating, Painful Chronic Inflammation In Its Tracks With The All-Natural Ingredients In Inflammation Relief To Fight Back Against Inflammation Related Health Issues - http://truthnutra.com/inflammation-relief-yt Inflammation Relief contains the exact clinical dosages of 7 potent all-natural compounds that shut down the inflammation response in the body FAST. Inflammation manifests itself differently depending on many individual factors, but most people experience gut problems like IBS and food intolerances, joint pain, excess stress, unexplained fatigue, insomnia, arthritis, and brain fog. In fact, inflammation is at the root of MOST diseases. By taking Inflammation Relief daily, you begin to support: Turn Off The “Inflammatory Cytokine” Response: cytokines are chiefly responsible for the signaling of the inflammation response by the immune system. When the immune system is threatened, it signals for this response. However, when you’re chronically inflamed due to modern exposures, the body quickly starts to deteriorate into poor health. “Calm” these cytokines down safely and quickly with the compounds in Inflammation Relief Restore Gut Health: since most issues begin in the gut, a majority of people with excess inflammation experience gut problems and irregularities at one point or another. Some of it even becomes chronic and turns into serious issues like IBS and UC. Restore your gut health by controlling this immune inflammation response naturally Reduce Stress Reactions: All the ingredients in this formula have potent anti-anxiety and depression-reducing abilities, but unlike prescription medications, they do not have negative side effects or cause unwanted drowsiness. Boost Immune System Function: Studies have demonstrated that ingredients in Inflammation Relief have immune-enhancing abilities that may help destroy dangerous bacteria, viruses and even cancers. They can be used to prevent germs from forming on the skin and mouth while keeping “bad” bacteria low in your gut. Reduce Pain: The ingredients in this formula can inhibit the production of key inflammatory molecules associated with conditions like arthritis, asthma, painful disorders like IBS and many more conditions. They can be useful in helping prevent the breakdown of the cartilage tissue and have been shown to significantly reduce levels of dangerous and painful inflammation, making this a natural treatment option for pain-related conditions that affect the muscles, joints and tendons. The best part about Inflammation Relief is that it’s 100% natural. INGREDIENTS Vitamin B12, Frankincense, Bromelain, Olive Leaf Extract, Turmeric, & Vitamin B6 Vitamin B12 Vitamin B12 is an incredible anti-inflammatory and energy-giving compound. Low B12 - the most common deficiency in the world - is associated with the proinflammatory cytokine response. Correcting B12 deficiency with a bioavailable B12 supplement source can “turn off” this inflammation response FAST. Frankincense Frankincense can inhibit the production of key inflammatory molecules associated with conditions like arthritis, asthma, painful disorders like IBS and many more conditions. It also has many benefits including improving immune function, better sleep, balancing hormone levels, easing digestion, and healing skin. Bromelain Due to its powerful anti-inflammatory characteristics, bromelain is fantastic for reducing acute or chronic joint pain. The journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine published a research trial that evaluated 42 osteoarthritis patients with degenerative spine or painful joint conditions. Olive Leaf Extract Arthritis is a joint issue that causes swelling and pain in the joints; the key word here is swelling — which means inflammation. Because the olive leaf is such a potent anti-inflammatory agent, it may work as a natural arthritis remedy. Studies have shown that olive leaf extracts cuts down on the chronic pain that is associated with osteoarthritis, and it reduces the production of cytokines and enzymes that are markers for the inflammatory process. Vitamin B6 Low levels of vitamin B6 have been associated with increased symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), including more severe pain. Certain early studies are finding that people with RA may need more vitamin B6 than healthy people because they experience ongoing muscle aches and joint pain due to chronic inflammation. Vitamin B6 benefits include curbing pain and may be useful in supplement form for controlling aches in the muscles and joints due to arthritis. Turmeric The journal Oncogene published the results of a study that evaluated several anti-inflammatory compounds and found that aspirin and ibuprofen, two of the most common NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are least effective, while curcumin is among the most effective anti-inflammatory compounds in the world.

First, one important reason to combine these two ingredients and consume them is that they enhance the health promoting abilities of each other. In fact, black pepper will enhance the bioavailability of turmeric. Curcumin has low levels of bioavailability, and because of this, much of the curcumin we consume is metabolized before it can be absorbed. Piperine has been found to make curcumin more bioavailable which allows us to absorb more of it and get its full healing and health promoting affects. 2. Eating turmeric mixed with black pepper also has tremendous anti-inflammatory affects for our bodies. These antioxidants in black pepper can help to both prevent and repair damage cause by free radicals and neutralize damaging compounds in our bodies, reducing inflammation in the process. 3. This mixture may also have benefits for certain types of cancer and may even reduce the risk of developing certain cancers. Studies have shown that curcumin can have positive affects on preventing cancer. Again, this is often attributed to several benefits curcumin provides at the molecular level which are enhanced by black pepper due to its absorption enhancing properties. Turmeric also provides many different nutrients and antioxidants which reduce damaging free radicals. Black pepper may also help in this regard to the polyphenols in contains. Discuss with your medical practitioner other cancer treatment and prevention methods. 4. Who Shouldn't Consume Curcumin or Turmeric?

05:26
Just because something is natural and plant-based doesn't mean it's necessarily safe. Those who are pregnant, have gallstones, or are susceptible to kidney stones may want to moderate their turmeric consumption. Subscribe to Dr. Greger’s free nutrition newsletter at https://www.nutritionfacts.org/subscribe and get a free recipe from his new HOW NOT TO DIE COOKBOOK. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from the sales of his books, DVDs, and speaking engagements go to support the 501c3 nonprofit that runs NutritionFacts.org.) This is the last installment of a 6-part video series on the power of spices in general and turmeric in particular. I started out discussing the role spices play in squelching inflammation and free radicals in Which Spices Fight Inflammation? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/which-spices-fight-inflammation) and Spicing Up DNA Protection (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/spicing-up-dna-protection). Then out of the lab into the clinic with attempts to test the ability of turmeric extracts to treat joint inflammation with Turmeric Curcumin and Rheumatoid Arthritis (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/turmeric-curcumin-and-rheumatoid-arthritis) and Turmeric Curcumin and Osteoarthritis (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/turmeric-curcumin-and-osteoarthritis). My last video, Boosting the Bioavailability of Curcumin (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/boosting-the-bioavailability-of-curcumin), discussed ways to improve the absorption of these anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds. I wish there was more science on wheatgrass. I just had that one unhelpful anecdote in my video How Much Broccoli Is Too Much? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/how-much-broccoli-is-too-much/) There is good science on flax though. See: • Flax Seeds For Breast Pain (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/flax-seeds-for-breast-pain) • Breast Cancer Survival and Lignan Intake (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/breast-cancer-survival-and-lignan-intake/) • Flax and Fecal Flora (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/flax-and-fecal-flora/) • Prostate vs. Plants (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/prostate-versus-plants/) • A Better Breakfast (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/a-better-breakfast/) • Flaxseeds vs. Chia Seeds (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/flaxseeds-vs-chia-seeds/) More on gallbladder health can be found in my video Cholesterol Gallstones (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/cholesterol-gallstones/). And those who are susceptible to kidney stones should try to alkalinize their urine by eating lots of dark green leafy vegetables (but then shouldn't we all :). See Testing Your Diet with Pee & Purple Cabbage (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/testing-your-diet-with-pee-purple-cabbage/). Based on this new science on turmeric (lots more to come!), I now try to include it in my family's daily diet. Have a question for Dr. Greger about this video? Turmeric for Arthritis and some great tips that will hepl relieve your pain. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE USING TURMERIC OR ANY HERBS! The turmeric plant grows in India and Indonesia and is related to the ginger family.evidence suggests that this brightly colored relative of ginger is a promising disease preventive, most likely due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric for Inflammation Turmeric Curcumin Supplement Studies suggests that it can be used effectively for an arthritis treatment.Below are the results of one study of turmeric for [[arthritis]].A study was done with 50 [[patients]] that were diagnosed with osteoarthritis. The object of this [[research]] was to determine the effect of [[turmeric]] and its pain relief to the patients. After 90 days the researchers found a an overall decrease in [[pain]] and stiffness by 58%. Another part of the study showed a 300% improvement in emotional well-being in the test group that took turmeric as opposed to those that didn't.When a blood test was done there was a 16 fold decline in C reactive protein which is a marker for inflammation. The patient's who were taking turmeric were able to reduce their use of anti-inflammatory drugs by 63%.The amount a turmeric used in this study was 1 g per day. I personally have used the powdered turmeric but now my local grocery store has actual turmeric root and for my arthritis I find that the turmeric root made into a turmeric tea works much better than the capsulized turmeric. In one of my other videos I show you how to make an anti-inflammatory tea made out of ginger root and turmeric root. It's very low-cost and it works great! I hope this video has been helpful. Thanks for watching Let's help each other by putting some comments below and telling us your experience with ginger or Turmeric for Inflammation, turmeric capsules and if it's help you with your pain or if you're going to try it for your pain.

DrRic Tutorial - Tumeric Curcumin for Arthritis/Muscle and Joint Pain/Colitis

Gave a lecture yesterday at Bodhi Prem Yoga about getting sick. Part of the lecture mentioned tonsil swelling and inflammation. After the infection is over, you can wait for the lymphnodes in the neck and tonsils in the throat to shrink or you can be proactive. Why speed up healing? Big tonsils hurt! Big tonsils also interfere with voice breathing and sleep. The same premise for decreasing inflammation of lymph nodes and tonsils can be applied to muscle and joint pain (like training for a hike in the Grand Canyon or your everyday arthritis sufferer. My training in sportsmedicine imparted knowledge on how to use antiinflammatory medicines to maximize healing and minimize side effects. My integrative medicine training with Andrew Weil has given me documented reviews on proper use of herbal supplements that speed up and compress the time frame of healing. Here is Tumeric......

What role might turmeric play in preventing Alzheimer’s in the first place? See my previous video Preventing Alzheimer's with Turmeric (http://www.nutritionfacts.org/video/Preventing-Alzheimers-with-Turmeric). I’ve previously addressed the thorny issue of patenting natural plant remedies in my video: Plants as Intellectual Property – Patently Wrong? Speeding Recovery from Surgery with Turmeric

The anti-inflammatory effect of curcumin, the pigment in the spice turmeric, was put to the test to see if it could reduce postoperative pain and fatigue after surgery. Subscribe to Dr. Greger’s free nutrition newsletter at https://www.nutritionfacts.org/subscribe and get a free recipe from his new HOW NOT TO DIE COOKBOOK. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from the sales of his books, DVDs, and speaking engagements go to support the 501c3 nonprofit that runs NutritionFacts.org.) Here’s the video I mentioned on preventing gallstones in the first place: Cholesterol Gallstones (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/cholesterol-gallstones/). The “p value” I mention in the video refers to a measure of the strength of evidence. The smaller it is, the stronger the evidence is that the result they found didn’t just happen by chance. By convention, a p value under 0.05 is considered small enough for a result to be considered statistically significant. This means that you’d only expect to find a result that remarkable simply by coincidence 5% of the time, or in 1 out of 20 cases. So, a p value like the one in the study, less than .000, suggests you’d have to run the experiment thousands of times before you’d come up with such a dramatic result just by chance. This is largely attributed to the tremendous anti-inflammatory benefits turmeric milk contains, as well as its detoxifying abilities. If that wasn’t enough, drinking turmeric and milk regularly can help to provide relief for those individuals who are suffering from eczema, acne and other skin conditions. 6. Lastly, drinking a glass of turmeric mixed in milk can help to enhance our overall sleep. In fact, a glass of warm turmeric milk can be even more beneficial for sleep then just plain milk. Milk contains tryptophan which increases serotonin levels in the brain which can often cause sleepiness, relaxation and calmness. Turmeric enhances the effects of the tryptophan found in milk, making in more available for the brain to produce serotonin. Making turmeric milk is incredibly easy, Just mix 1/2 a teaspoon of turmeric powder into 1 cup of milk and a little bit of water. You do not needed to consume large amounts of turmeric for this tonic to be effective. If you want to make warm turmeric milk, he the milk and water over low heat and stir in the turmeric powder. Bring it to a boil and allow the ingredients to simmer for 10 minutes. You can add some pepper to the drink if you like. Also, you can use skim milk for this recipe, but high fat milk is often recommended. Discuss with your medical practitioner before consuming turmeric and milk to make sure it is right for you. What is Turmeric Good For? 10 Turmeric Health Benefits

04:22
Lots of people use the turmeric herb in their cooking. The main signs of turmeric are its pepper- like smell, sharp taste, and golden color. Turmeric is known to stop swelling, kill bacteria and viruses, as well as many other things. It is also full of nutrients, like protein, dietary fiber, niacin, Vitamins C, E, and K, calcium, potassium, copper, iron, magnesium, and zinc. Because of this, turmeric is a great thing to use to cure health problems. Here are the top ten things turmeric can be used for: Prevents Cancer Turmeric can block prostate cancer and even kill cancer cells. It can also stop tumor cells from growing, so it can guard the body from getting cancer in the first place. Relieves Arthritis Because turmeric brings down swelling, it’s great to use for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It also kills germs that harm body cells. People with rheumatoid arthritis who eat turmeric all the time have gotten much rest from pain and joint swelling. Controls Diabetes Turmeric can help cure diabetes, by keeping insulin at normal levels. It also helps with sugar control, and makes the medicine used for diabetes work. But if used with strong medicines, turmeric can cause low blood sugar, so make sure to ask your doctor before you take turmeric capsules. Reduces Cholesterol Levels Using turmeric as a spice can bring down cholesterol levels. Because high cholesterol can cause other health problems, it is important to stay on top of it to stop heart disease. Immunity Booster Turmeric helps keep the body’s immune system going. It also helps strengthen the immune system, because it kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi. This stops you from getting colds, coughs, and the flu. To help you feel better if you do get sick, mix one teaspoon of turmeric in a glass of warm milk and drink it once a day. Heals Wounds Because turmeric naturally kills germs and bacteria, it can be used to clean wounds. If you have a cut or burn, sprinkle some turmeric powder on it to help it heal quicker. It can also help treat psoriasis- itchy, dead skin- and other skin conditions. Weight Management Turmeric powder can help keep the body at a proper weight, by helping break down fat. Someone who wants to lose weight or treat obesity and sicknesses that come with it, can have one teaspoon of turmeric with every meal. Prevents Alzheimer’s Disease Swelling of the brain is one of the main reasons for cognitive disorders, like Alzheimer’s disease. Turmeric can keep the brain healthy, by helping oxygen flow. This can also slow down or totally stop Alzheimer’s disease. Improves Digestion Turmeric can help with digestion, by lessening bloating and gas. It can also help treat inflammatory bowel disease. But be careful, because if you suffer from a gallbladder disease you should not take turmeric, as that can make it worse. Also, if you have a digestive problem, it is best to eat raw turmeric, and not capsules. Prevents Liver Disease Turmeric is a natural way to force poisons from the liver. The liver takes poison out of the blood, and turmeric helps make the enzymes that keep it working. It also helps strengthen, and better blood flow. All of this helps to keep the liver healthy. Because of all the ways turmeric can help your health, adding this herb to your diet is a great idea. Boosting the Bioavailability of Curcumin

Subscribe to Dr. Greger’s free nutrition newsletter at https://www.nutritionfacts.org/subscribe and get a free recipe from his new HOW NOT TO DIE COOKBOOK. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from the sales of his books, DVDs, and speaking engagements go to support the 501c3 nonprofit that runs NutritionFacts.org.) DESCRIPTION: Dietary strategies, including the use of black pepper (piperine), can boost blood levels of curcumin from the spice turmeric by up to 2,000%. Why would we care about boosting curcumin levels? I started talking about this golden spice pigment in Which Spices Fight Inflammation? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/which-spices-fight-inflammation) and Spicing Up DNA Protection (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/spicing-up-dna-protection) and then moved on to treating actual clinical conditions in Turmeric Curcumin and Rheumatoid Arthritis (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/turmeric-curcumin-and-rheumatoid-arthritis) and Turmeric Curcumin and Osteoarthritis (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/turmeric-curcumin-and-osteoarthritis). Next I'll end this video series with some cautionary notes in Who Shouldn't Consume Curcumin or Turmeric (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/who-shouldnt-consume-curcumin-or-turmeric). I've previously covered this topic of food synergy in videos such as Apples and Oranges: Dietary Diversity (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/apples-and-oranges-dietary-diversity/) and Garden Variety Anti-Inflammation (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/garden-variety-anti-inflammation/) that emphasize the importance of eating a variety of plant foods to take advantage of some of these interactions. The black pepper mechanism reminds me of the grapefruit (Tell Your Doctor If You Eat Grapefruit, http://nutritionfacts.org/video/tell-your-doctor-if-you-eat-grapefruit/) and broccoli (The Best Detox, http://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-best-detox/) stories. A testament to the power of plants (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/power-plants/). The painkilling properties of aspirin mentioned in the video are actually found throughout the plant kingdom: Aspirin Levels in Plant Foods (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/aspirin-levels-in-plant-foods/). In some circumstances, traditional medicine wisdom seems incredible (Tomato Effect, http://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-tomato-effect); in others, dangerous (Get the Lead Out, http://nutritionfacts.org/video/get-the-lead-out). But that's what we now have science for! Have a question for Dr. Greger about this video? Leave it in the comment section at http://nutritionfacts.org/video/boosting-the-bioavailability-of-curcumin/ and he'll try to answer it! http://www.NutritionFacts.org • Subscribe: http://www.NutritionFacts.org/subscribe • Donate: http://www.NutritionFacts.org/donate • HOW NOT TO DIE: http://nutritionfacts.org/book • Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/NutritionFacts.org • Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/nutrition_facts • Instagram: http://instagram.com/nutrition_facts_org/ • Google+: https://plus.google.com/+NutritionfactsOrgMD • Podcast: http://nutritionfacts.org/audio/

Health Benefits of Turmeric Detox Tea & How to make it - Curcumin (/ˈkərkjuːmən/, diferuloylmethane) is a bright yellow chemical produced by some plants. It is the principal curcuminoid of turmeric (Curcuma longa), a member of the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). It is sold as an herbal supplement, cosmetics ingredient, food flavoring and food coloring. As a food additive, its E number is E100. Chemically, curcumin is a diarylheptanoid, belonging to the group of curcuminoids, which are natural phenols responsible for turmeric's yellow color. It is a tautomeric compound existing in enolic form in organic solvents and as a keto form in water. n the U.S., turmeric is best known as a spice. It's one of the main components of curry powder. In India and other parts of Asia, turmeric is used to treat many health conditions. It is believed to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and perhaps even anticancer properties. Curcumin, a substance in turmeric, may help to reduce inflammation. Several studies suggest that it might ease symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, like pain and inflammation. Turmeric is an unproven treatment, though it has years of traditional use and some preliminary convincing research. There is no standard dosage. Ask your health care provider for advice.
