Toyota Motor Corporation (Japanese: トヨタ自動車株式会社 Hepburn: Toyota Jidōsha KK?, IPA: [toꜜjota], /tɔɪˈoʊtə/) is a Japanese automotive manufacturer headquartered in Toyota, Aichi, Japan. In March 2014 the multinational corporation consisted of 338,875 employees worldwide[6] and, as of February 2016, is the 13th-largest company in the world by revenue. Toyota was the largest automobile manufacturer in 2012 (by production) ahead of the Volkswagen Group and General Motors.[8] In July of that year, the company reported the production of its 200-millionth vehicle.[9] Toyota is the world's first automobile manufacturer to produce more than 10 million vehicles per year. It did so in 2012 according to OICA,[8] and in 2013 according to company data.[10] As of July 2014, Toyota was the largest listed company in Japan by market capitalization (worth more than twice as much as #2-ranked SoftBank)[11] and by revenue.[12] Toyota is the world's market leader in sales of hybrid electric vehicles, and one of the largest companies to encourage the mass-market adoption of hybrid vehicles across the globe. Cumulative global sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrid passenger car models passed the 9 million milestone in April 2016.[13][14] Its Prius family is the world's top selling hybrid nameplate with almost 5.7 million units sold worldwide as of 30 April 2016.[15] The company was founded by Kiichiro Toyoda in 1937, as a spinoff from his father's company Toyota Industries to create automobiles. Three years earlier, in 1934, while still a department of Toyota Industries, it created its first product, the Type A engine, and, in 1936, its first passenger car, the Toyota AA. Toyota Motor Corporation produces vehicles under 5 brands, including the Toyota brand, Hino, Lexus, Ranz, Scion, and Daihatsu. It also holds a 16.66% stake in Fuji Heavy Industries, a 5.9% stake in Isuzu, a 3.58% stake in the Yamaha Motor Company,[16] and a 0.27% stake in Tesla, as well as joint-ventures with two in China (GAC Toyota and Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor), one in India (Toyota Kirloskar), one in the Czech Republic (TPCA), along with several "nonautomotive" companies.[17] TMC is part of the Toyota Group, one of the largest conglomerates in the world. Toyota implemented its fifth Environmental Action Plan in 2005. The plan contains four major themes involving the environment and the corporation's development, design, production, and sales. The five-year plan is directed at the, "arrival of a revitalized recycling and reduction based society."[187] Toyota had previously released its Eco-Vehicle Assessment System (Eco-VAS) which is a systematic life cycle assessment of the effect a vehicle will have on the environment including production, usage, and disposal. The assessment includes, "... fuel efficiency, emissions and noise during vehicle use, the disposal recovery rate, the reduction of substances of environmental concern, and CO2 emissions throughout the life cycle of the vehicle from production to disposal."[188] 2008 marks the ninth year for Toyota's Environmental Activities Grant Program which has been implemented every year since 2001. Themes of the 2008 program consist of "Global Warming Countermeasures" and "Biodiversity Conservation."[189] Since October 2006, Toyota's new Japanese-market vehicle models with automatic transmissions are equipped with an Eco Drive Indicator. The system takes into consideration rate of acceleration, engine and transmission efficiency, and speed. When the vehicle is operated in a fuel-efficient manner, the Eco Drive Indicator on the instrument panel, lights up. Individual results vary depending on traffic issues, starting and stopping the vehicle, and total distance traveled, but the Eco Drive Indicator may improve fuel efficiency by as much as 4%.[190] Along with Toyota's eco-friendly objectives on production and use, the company plans to donate US$1 million and five vehicles to the Everglades National Park. The money will be used to fund environmental programs at the park. This donation is part of a program which provides US$5 million and 23 vehicles for five national parks and the National Parks Foundation.

Toyota Motor North America has the best and brightest accepting the challenge: innovate and problem solve to create the next generation of manufacturing technology. Today’s newly opened $80 million, 235,000 square foot environmentally-conscious Production Engineering and Manufacturing Center (PEMC) in Georgetown, Kentucky, is the final building constructed under the “One Toyota” project, and is both a statement on Toyota’s commitment to investing in the future of American manufacturing and a home base for a key group of more than 600 Toyota engineers. “Our production engineers are at the top of their game and help shape the future of Toyota,” said Jim Lentz, chief executive officer of Toyota Motor North America. “They push the limits every day on what’s possible in manufacturing to produce ever-better vehicles. And their hard work and commitment to quality shows in the products we build in our 14 plants across North America.” A production engineer’s work begins after a vehicle concept is dreamed up, but before the product is manufactured. This key group of engineers finds the best way to make the vehicle, designing processes and layouts that make Toyota plants come to life. Supporting all aspects of production, including stamping, body, paint, plastics, assembly, powertrain, environmental, and safety, they interact with team members in vehicle design and product planning, as well as on the production floor to support everyday operations, model changes, Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) implementation, new construction and future innovations and technology. The PEMC in Kentucky has capacity to house 800 team members. In addition to production engineering, supporting teams located at PEMC include indirect purchasing, information systems, strategic business management, human resources and talent development. Announced three years ago as part of the “One Toyota” initiative to create more unified operations in North America – which also included the new North American headquarters for Toyota in Plano, Texas, and a new research and development facility in Ann Arbor, Mich., – the PEMC includes leading-edge spaces that feature natural lighting, encourage discovery and foster teamwork that will result in increased collaboration and faster decision making. As the manufacturing nucleus for Toyota’s North American plants, PEMC has a new TILT Lab to focus primarily on problem solving and innovation. With a name inspired by the goal of the space, the TILT Lab provides everything Toyota engineers need to shift conventional thinking on its axis, and take an idea from concept to prototype. Once tested, those advancements may be applied to the company’s plants to improve processes or solve a challenge.

What is sustainable mobility?
In many countries, the car symbolises the twentieth century. The car has radically changed our lifestyles, increasing mobility and transforming landscapes, giving rise to towns and cities and creating many new types of job. But alongside the positive impact, cars have also led to traffic jams, increased travel time, energy consumption and pollution -- and the number of cars in use is growing year on year. Something clearly needs to change! Watch our video to learn how we are building a more sustainable vision of global transport systems through innovation and the use of eco-designed metros, trams and high-speed and regional trains. What Is Environmental Management System
http://www.e-wia.com ISO 14000 is primarily concerned with Environmental Management. In plain language, this means what the organization does to minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by its activities. Improving the environmental performance of corporations is one way of limiting environmental damage. Environmental management systems (EMS's), such as ISO 14001, provide a framework for organizations that wish to effectively manage their environmental affairs. Implementing an EMS that conforms to the ISO 14001 standard may help businesses integrate environmental values into their operations. An EMS can be described as a program of continuous environmental improvement that follows a defined sequence of steps drawn from established project management practice and routinely applied in business management. In simple terms these steps are as follows: • Review the environmental consequences of the operations. • Define a set of policies and objectives for environmental performance. • Establish an action plan to achieve the objectives. • Monitor performance against these objectives. • Report the results appropriately. • Review the system and the outcomes and strive for continuous improvement. Not every system will present these steps in exactly the same way, but the basic principles are clear and easily understandable. The ISO 14000 series is a series of standards for different aspects of environmental management. A number of these standards relating to environmental management systems have been adopted formally by the members of the ISO, while others are in different stages of preparation. ISO 14000 is a group of standards covering the following areas: •Environmental Management Systems (14001,14002, 14004) •Environmental Auditing (14010, 14011, 14012) •Evaluation of Environmental Performance (14031) •Environmental Labeling (14020, 14021, 14022, 14023, 14024, 14025) •Life-Cycle Assessment (14040, 14041,14042, 14043)

Why Would I Need Tire & Wheel Protection?
Ever wonder if Tire and Wheel Protection on your vehicle would benefit you? Visit http://autoconsumerinfo.com/ to learn more. “One of the best things about leasing is at the end of 3 or 4 years, you can turn your old vehicle in and get a new one. It’s also why certain options, like tire and wheel road hazard protection for example, can be especially important. Because even though you don’t own the vehicle, when it comes time to turn it back in, your lease agreement clearly spells out all of your financial responsibilities at lease end. In fact, on the back of every lease agreement, there is a clause that says something similar to this, “I agree to pay you the costs of all repairs to the Vehicle that are not the result of normal wear and use, whether or not you actually repair the vehicle.” For example, let’s say your new 2015 Odyssey Touring model has the standard 18 inch factory alloy wheels- not even the $1200 optional wheels. It also comes standard with four 235/60 R18 Goodyear low profile tires and compact spare. Unfortunately, when you that hit pothole on I-75 and damage the wheel and ruin the tire, they are probably both going to have to be replaced, especially with low-profile tires. With 78 series tires, we used to have this much room between the wheel and the road. Now we have this much room between the wheel and the road. At the end of your lease, when it’s time to turn your Odyssey in, all four tires must be of the same grade, quantity, or quality as those delivered with the vehicle, with a minimum of 1/8” tread. Should you have to replace even just one wheel and tire due to road hazard, you’re looking at $479 for the wheel, $234 for the tire, plus mounting, balancing, valve stem, tire pressure monitor, disposal fee, sales tax, and shop supplies, for a little over $800. And that doesn’t even include a front end alignment or nitrogen in the tire. When you’re leasing a vehicle, that tire and wheel will have to be replaced. And you don’t want to buy any tires or wheels if you don’t have to, right?”

Environmental Campaign Coffee Cups
Randwick Council’s flagship environmental event, the annual Eco Living Fair, was a resounding success in September. Up to 8,000 residents attended the Eco Living Fair held at Council’s sustainability education ‘hub’ at the Randwick Community Centre. This year’s fair saw more than 50 environmental stalls, workshops, presentation and family entertainment all aimed at Father’s for Father’s Day. The sustainability ‘speed dating’ was hugely popular, allowing residents to meet the solar and sustainability experts in quick 20 minute time slots to ask questions, test their renovations plans for sustainability, or even find how solar battery technology works alongside existing solar panel systems. The Tesla powerwall display with the Tesla electric vehicle turned a lot of heads as did the new BMW electric cars available in Australia. No doubt, attending Fathers were suitably impressed (as was everyone else on the most perfect of Spring days in September).

The EPA’s Plan to Upend Emissions Standards
Under the Trump Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency is rolling out a new plan that could upend auto emissions standards across the nation. FedEx Long-Term Commitment to Sustainability Gets a Boost: Emissions Reduction Goal Increased 50%
(3BL Media) Memphis, TN - August 20, 2012 - In 2008, FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) announced it would seek to reduce carbon emissions intensity from its FedEx Express aircraft and improve the fuel efficiency of its FedEx Express vehicle fleet by 20 percent by 2020, as compared with its 2005 performance. Less than five years later, FedEx has nearly achieved these goals and is today announcing a revised, more aggressive target that continues to move the world's largest express transportation company forward in an environmentally-conscious manner. These efforts are detailed in the company's fourth annual Global Citizenship Report, released today online. Also featured in the report are successes in the company's other focus areas of Economics & Access, People & Workplace and Community & Disaster Relief. "FedEx is dedicated to providing sustainable solutions for our customers," said Mitch Jackson, staff vice president of Environmental Affairs and Sustainability, FedEx Corp. "This year's Global Citizenship Report showcases our tireless efforts to maximize our efficiency while advancing our commitment to connect the world in responsible and resourceful ways." Environment With its 2008 emissions reduction and fuel efficiency goals, FedEx set the stage for industry-leading environmental action and public advocacy. As the latest Global Citizenship Report details, FedEx is well on its way to achieving the 20 percent aircraft emissions intensity reduction and fuel efficiency improvement goals it set for 2020, having reduced aircraft emissions intensity by 13.8 percent and improved vehicle fuel efficiency by 16.6 percent at the end of its fiscal year 2011. Consequently, FedEx has increased its aircraft emissions goal by 50 percent, to a 30 percent reduction in global aircraft emissions intensity by its original 2020 target date. FedEx has also reaffirmed its commitment to sourcing at least 30 percent of its jet fuel from alternative fuels by the year 2030. FedEx has achieved these energy efficiency and sustainability milestones through EarthSmart Innovations and EarthSmart @ Work—specifically, its Fuel Sense initiative and its innovative "Reduce, Replace, Revolutionize" approach to network management. In the last year, FedEx has: Continued aircraft fleet replacements. By 2015, FedEx Express will have replaced all of its less-efficient 727s with more fuel-efficient and greater payload 757 aircraft. The company is also continuing to introduce Boeing 777F aircraft, which use 18 percent less fuel than the MD-11 aircraft while also providing greater payload capacity. Further, FedEx Express plans to introduce the new Boeing 767 aircraft into its fleet in 2013, which will further contribute to its ability to meet the newly-revised aircraft emissions intensity reduction target. Continued on-the-road deployments of all-electric commercial vehicles in cities around the globe. These advanced vehicles operate alongside fuel-efficient Sprinter vans which FedEx continues to bring into service, hybrid vehicles and novel, innovative delivery solutions such as electric-powered tricycles in Paris. In its fiscal year 2012, FedEx Express increased the size of its advanced alternative-vehicle fleet by 18 percent, with a total of 364 hybrid-electric vehicles and 118 electric vehicles in service. To date, these vehicles have traveled a total of 12.1 million miles and conserved 345,000 gallons of fuel. Introduced FedEx Carbon-Neutral Envelope Shipping, a no-cost-to-consumers program that helps improve the carbon footprint not only at FedEx, but also for its customers' businesses. FedEx calculates that the annual carbon emissions offset by this program is equivalent to planting 2,179,487 tree seedlings and letting them grow for 10 years. Continued to improve upon its network-wide recycling efforts, collecting 47.9 million pounds of recyclable waste in FY11—an increase of more than 6 million pounds from FY10.

Rough terrain? No problem for this beaver-inspired autonomous robot
Autonomous robots excel in factories and other manmade spaces, but they struggle with the randomness of nature. To help these machines overcome uneven terrain and other obstacles, University at Buffalo researchers have turned to beavers, termites and other animals that build structures in response to simple environmental cues, as opposed to following predetermined plans. BDA Suffers Rs 900 Cr Loss, But Authority Wants To Buy 10 New Cars for Officials

The authority claimed that its officials will have to visit government departments in Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha several times a month, and that cars in good condition are a necessity. “Several cars used by senior officers are more than 10, and in some cases, 14 years old. We need to get rid of these vehicles for environmental reasons and also because of the fact that their repair and maintenance costs are too high,” Rakesh Singh, commissioner, BDA, said. Officials said when such cars are out of action, the authority, just like many other government agencies, uses services of travel firms. “These firms cannot be trusted all the time. They are not punctual, which is particularly bad when we have to visit courts or senior government officials with an appointment,” an official said. Singh, reiterating the cost of maintaining old vehicles is considerably higher than purchasing new ones, said BDA will buy cars in batches. However, social activists have slammed the move stating there’s no need to splurge money on cars when the civic agency is facing a cash crunch. “The two high-end cars being bought for senior officials alone cost around Rs 50 lakh. Buying so many vehicles will burden the state exchequer. Moreover, this comes at a time when the government will have to buy new ones for ministers in the Kumaraswamy government. At least 10 new cars will be needed for JD(S) ministers as they are coming back to power after 10 years. They will insist on new vehicles,” an activist said. Spanish/Nat A growth in poor health has forced Peru's government to convert motorists in Lima to unleaded fuel. The capital, home to more than six (m) million people, is fast becoming one of Latin America's most polluted. Poor health, including cancer, is plaguing the inhabitants exposed daily to the poisonous effects of leaded fuel. Abancay Avenue, in the heart of Lima, is choking. Thousands of vehicles daily spew toxic fumes from leaded fuel. The six-and-a-half million people in this city must live with the consequences - cancer and poor respiratory health are rife. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "What we want to do with this is to reduce the impact on health. That is, the quantity of lead. Both in areas of high traffic density where we have not only the population at risk, but also many occupational activities which are at risk, because they are continually inhaling all these lead fumes. SUPER CAPTION: Doctor Maria del Carmen Gastanaga, General Director of environmental health The lead in fuel is harmful because it does not dissolve in the air once it has left the exhaust. When inhaled it gathers in the blood, causing serious damage to health. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "It is very important with children to try and link, especially with irritative illnesses in the wind pipes, all those illnesses which are sometimes diagnosed as asthma, to the (highly polluted) places where they live. We have cases of chronic illnesses, which can be emphysema in adults. We also have a weakening of the immunity system, a very small response of this system in people who inhale these (lead) particles. SUPER CAPTION: Doctor Maria del Carmen Gastanaga, General Director of environmental health The government announced earlier this week an action plan before things get any worse. The Organisation of Ibero-American States is backing it. The ministries of Transport, Health and Energy must come up with a strategy in the next thirty days to transform a whole city's fuel from leaded to unleaded SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "The main source of pollution, especially regarding particles, are created by vehicles, for the bad state of repair these vehicles are in, in Lima and also in the provinces, and industrial emissions. SUPER CAPTION: Katia Figueroa, Engineer It is not yet known what the response from Peru's fuel suppliers will be or the anticipated cost of the project. But Lima's air is already commonly referred to as the great rubbish pit. It is already too late for many who suffered the cancerous effects of leaded fuel. An attempt is underway to ensure it won't be too late for many more. The JustGreen Lifestyle program offers three participation levels -- Family, Metropolitan and Academic Memberships -- each comprising a monthly membership plan tailored to accommodate diverse lifestyles. Every member benefits from a host of lifestyle savings while helping the environment at the same time. "Since every one of us contributes to the release of harmful carbon emissions in our day to day activities, we believe that we all need to take personal responsibility for the environmental impact we have on the planet," says GP Manalac, JustGreen Executive VP. "JustGreen Lifestyle is our green energy initiative designed to help us all work towards a cleaner planet by pursuing renewable and sustainable energy solutions that support green projects across North America." These projects include solar, hydro, wind power, and methane capture facilities. The goal is to increase consumer awareness of the amount of carbon pollution, which contributes to global warming and climate change, and promote an action plan, through carbon offsets, to help people reduce and even neutralize their personal and household carbon footprint. Through the program, participants have the option to allocate the carbon offsets to a green energy project that is meaningful to them. What is a carbon footprint? A 'carbon footprint' refers to the amount of carbon pollution created by an individual in a given period, usually measured in tonnes or pounds. The average person creates 48,488 pounds of carbon every year. That's equivalent to removing 110 trees or adding four more cars on the road during that same period. On behalf of its customers, the company has invested over $70 Million on green energy projects to date. This investment has helped to: · offset over 1.7 billion pounds * of carbon emissions -- equivalent to taking 155,000 cars off the road for an entire year · generate 3.3 million MWh * of renewable energy -- enough electricity to power over 293,000 homes for an entire year The site also features information on JustGreen business partners, news releases, trends, new products, tips and much more.
