Economic Systems and Macroeconomics: Crash Course Economics #3

10:18
In which Jacob Clifford and Adriene Hill teach you about Economic Systems and Macroeconomics. So, economics is basically about choices. We'll look at some of the broadest economic choices when we talk about the difference between planned economies and market economies. We'll get into communism, socialism, command economies, and capitalism. We'll look at how countries choose the kind of system they're going to use (spoiler alert: many end up with mixed economies). We'll also look into how individuals make economic choices. Crash Course is now on Patreon! There's also area, perimeter, and place value to be discovered. Whew. We have so much to do and can't wait to do it with you. Let's go! Some mountain students have been busy as Santa's elves. In our Never Stop Learning, we find out why.Students at Hendersonville Elementary School are making items they plan to sell at the schools market day on Friday.Teachers say it's a great way for students to learn about economics. They are responsible for designing a product, making it and then advertising. The secret they say to a good business is to figure out what the buyer wants and then make sure it's affordable. Students hope to raise between $400 and $700, which will go to a local charity. The 5th grade classes got a grant from the Hendersonville Rotary Club to buy the start up supplies.

Needs versus wants - GetWise | ASB

Teaching kids about money - Needs versus wants. Thanks to the ABS GetWise programme, we've helped over 400,000 Kiwi kids become cash clever. Watch more ASB money tips at http://asb.co/asbmoneytips or find out more on GetWise at https://www.asb.co.nz/getwise An important money skill to teach children is the difference between needs and wants. But for children that can be tricky. Put simply, a need is something you must have to survive, like food, water and a home. A want is something that's nice to have, but you can actually live without, like an ice cream or a new skateboard. Watch the other ASB GetWise videos for more fun ways to help your children learn about money. Not only will you be a multi-digit addition and subtraction rockstar, but you'll extend the multiplication and division that you started in 3rd grade to several digits. You'll also discover that you sometimes have something left over (called a "remainder") when you divide. In 3rd grade you learned what a fraction is. Now you'll start adding, subtracting, multiplying, and comparing them. You'll also see how they relate to decimals. On other fronts, you'll learn how to convert between different units (which is super important when comparing the size and speed of robot unicorns in different countries) and continue your journey thinking about various shapes in two dimensions. Some of the foundational concepts of geometry (like lines, rays and angles) also get introduced. As always, we'll round this out with a healthy dose of applied word problems and explorations of number patterns and properties (including the ideas of factors, multiples and prime numbers). The fun must not stop! (Content was selected for this grade level based on a typical curriculum in the United States.) About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. This is a fantastic intro to the basics of statistics. Our focus here is to help you understand the core concepts of arithmetic mean, median, and mode. Practice this lesson yourself on KhanAcademy.org right now: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-sixth-grade-math/cc-6th-data-statistics/mean-and-median/e/calculating-the-mean?utm_source=YT&utm_medium=Desc&utm_campaign=6thgrade Watch the next lesson: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-sixth-grade-math/cc-6th-data-statistics/mean-and-median/v/mean-median-and-mode?utm_source=YT&utm_medium=Desc&utm_campaign=6thgrade Missed the previous lesson? https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-sixth-grade-math/cc-6th-data-statistics/histograms/v/interpreting-histograms?utm_source=YT&utm_medium=Desc&utm_campaign=6thgrade Grade 6th on Khan Academy: By the 6th grade, you're becoming a sophisticated mathemagician. You'll be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide any non-negative numbers (including decimals and fractions) that any grumpy ogre throws at you. Mind-blowing ideas like exponents (you saw these briefly in the 5th grade), ratios, percents, negative numbers, and variable expressions will start being in your comfort zone. Most importantly, the algebraic side of mathematics is a whole new kind of fun! And if that is not enough, we are going to continue with our understanding of ideas like the coordinate plane (from 5th grade) and area while beginning to derive meaning from data! Supply and Demand: Crash Course Economics #4

In which Adriene Hill and Jacob Clifford teach you about one of the fundamental economic ideas, supply and demand. What is supply and demand? Well, you’ll have to watch the video to really understand it, but it’s kind of important for everything economically. Supply and demand sets prices, and indicates to manufacturers how much to produce. Also, it has a lot to do with strawberries. Crash Course is on Patreon! Substitute Teaching: Starting a Specialty Class (Drama, Woodshop, Home Economics)

03:33
The great part of specialty classes, students are working on projects. They will be continuing their projects. It's best to let them start the class, simply let them know who you are. You are there to keep students on track. Generally, students are in art, drama, music etc because they like or love the subject. This makes your job easy. Make sure and keep track of time. Give plenty of time to clean up. If any class leaves a mess, let the teacher know. Clean up is part of their grade.

1st Grade Reading Lesson

02:29
Imagine instead of starting with minimal vocabulary basal readers, first, second and third grade students are able to read such books as Where the Wild Things Are, The Velveteen Rabbit and Charlotte's Web, respectively. Imagine all students, whatever their socio-economic group, ethnicity or native language (even those at Title 1 schools or those in ESL/ELL programs), all succeeding in learning how to spell, write and read. Imagine a recently completed four-year study by Arizona State University showing one group of students — using a particular method to learn how to spell, write and read — having significantly higher achievement test scores when compared to those using other reading programs. And imagine a method where every parent and teacher can help children develop essential critical thinking skills and instill a love of learning and reading that will last a lifetime It's called "The Writing Road to Reading©," an integrated, multisensory, research-based, language arts curriculum using the principles of instruction in The Spalding Method®. Training in "The Writing Road to Reading" curriculum is offered exclusively through Spalding Education International (SEI). SEI's mission is to increase literacy for all children and adults by using The Spalding Method to develop skilled readers, critical listeners, and accomplished writers and spellers. The late Romalda B. Spalding, author of "The Writing Road to Reading," founded the organization in 1986. Now in its 6th revised edition, "The Writing Road to Reading" has stood the test of time because IT WORKS. This video excerpt shows The Spalding Method in action in a 1st grade classroom. (To order the complete video or any other educational videos, visit our store: http://spalding.org/store/index.php.) Not only will you be a multi-digit addition and subtraction rockstar, but you'll extend the multiplication and division that you started in 3rd grade to several digits. (Content was selected for this grade level based on a typical curriculum in the United States.)
