Reconstruction and 1876: Crash Course US History #22
In which John Green teaches you about Reconstruction. After the divisive, destructive Civil War, Abraham Lincoln had a plan to reconcile the country and make it whole again. Then he got shot, Andrew Johnson took over, and the disagreements between Johnson and Congress ensured that Reconstruction would fail. The election of 1876 made the whole thing even more of a mess, and the country called it off, leaving the nation still very divided. John will talk about the gains made by African-Americans in the years after the Civil War, and how they lost those gains almost immediately when Reconstruction stopped. You'll learn about the Freedman's Bureau, the 14th and 15th amendments, and the disastrous election of 1876. John will explore the goals of Reconstruction, the successes and ultimate failure, and why his alma mater Kenyon College is better than Raoul's alma mater NYU. What began as a custody battle had now turned into an international incident. Ten months earlier, Sally’s estranged husband Ali Elamine had asked to take their two children, five-year-old Lahela and two-year-old Noah, to Lebanon for a holiday. He then called Sally to say the children would not be coming back to Australia. In a desperate attempt to bring the children home, Sally travelled to Beirut where they were snatched from a street. Just who is the woman behind the headlines and how did it come to this? In this two-part program, Sally Faulkner for the first time gives a detailed account of what went wrong. Thank you to the families and students of Parkland for redefining what love, courage, and unwavering strength truly is. I will be forever changed by my experience in Parkland and cannot possibly express the gratitude I have for the wonderful families we met, who took the time to welcome us into their lives and properly educate us about how to most effectively be part of the solution. In my humble and respectful opinion, without a balanced and actionable approach to gun reform, mental health awareness, effective bullying solutions, school safety measures, truly teaching our youth and adults how to be more mindful and empathetic, better communitywide communication and reporting, etc., we simply cannot effectively correct the current course we're on. I vow to be part of the solution and utilize my platform to raise awareness and action across the board, but we cannot focus on one issue, we must actively discuss and make progress on them all. - Jake Paul * If you would like to donate to the students and families of Parkland, we were directed by the families we connected with to the following fund: Broward Education Foundation – https://www.gofundme.com/stonemandouglasvictimsfund * Make sure it says Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Or a check can be written and mailed to: Broward Education Foundation (make sure it is earmarked for Marjory Stoneman Douglas) 600 S.E. 3rd Avenue Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33301 * There are several wonderful funds setup at the link below; however, we have been told to remind everyone to do their due diligence when choosing a fund to support. https://www.gofundme.com/mvc.php?route=category&term=Broward%20Education%20Foundation * A Very Special Thank You to the Blank family for all of your authenticity, hospitality, wisdom, and guidance. Federalist Era: Part II Washington & Adams - Foreign Policy and Partisan Politics
This PowerPoint, with activities, and lesson plans are available @: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Mr-Raymond-Civics-And-Social-Studies-Academy This lesson teaches students about the influences of George Washington and John Adams foreign policies, and the challenges both the president and the nation faced in the history of the early republic. In part I we covered the early presidency of George Washington and the economic policies of Alexander Hamilton, so check those out if you haven’t already. The student will be able to identify the major events and key figures of this monumental time in U.S. history. Content covered in this lesson includes: • Review: Treaty of Paris, Washington’s Inauguration, Hamilton vs. Jefferson, Hamilton’s economic policies (National Bank, tariffs), and the Whiskey Rebellion • Westward Expansion and tension with the Native populations of the Northwest Territories • Britain and Spain’s role in the Northwest Native War’s – St. Clair’s Defeat & the Battle of Fallen Timbers • Washington’s response to these events (General Anthony Wayne, the Treaty of Greenville) • Impact of the French Revolution on American politics • Choosing sides: Federalists vs. Democratic-Republicans • British impressment vs. French recruitment • The Jay Treaty • The Pinckney Treaty • Washington’s Farewell Address – warnings: foreign alliances, political parties • Peaceful transfer of power • Two-term precedent (FDR, 22nd Amendment) • Washington returns to Mount Vernon (death, fleeing his slaves, Father of the Country, his service) • The rise of political parties / factions • Federalists vs. Democratic-Republican core beliefs • The Election of 1796 • Quasi-War with France • XYZ Affair • Alien & Sedition Acts Like most of the videos on Mr. Raymond’s Social Studies Academy’s lessons, this video ends with a review “quiz.” Remember that the PowerPoint in this video as well as a variety of lesson plans, worksheets, smartboard files and activities, are available at Teachers Pay Teachers. As a social studies teacher, I have often looked for good YouTube video clips to show my students. I hope these videos will serve as a supplement to lessons for civics teachers, US history teachers, US government teachers and their students. I have also thought that these videos could help those who are going to take the naturalization test to become US Citizens. 10 Years on YouTube
May 30th, 2008: we landed in Korea to start our careers as teachers, and started filming videos for our families as a hobby. Boy, what a wild ride we've been on since then. Now that ten years have passed, we'll tell you a few things we learned about YouTube, about ourselves as creators. What are our thoughts on the Algorithm? Is YouTube getting better or worse? What about company sponsorships? MCNs? Any advice we can give to people starting YouTube now? We'll tell you a lot about what we've learned, and for newer people, we'll tell you a bit about ourselves as well. Buckle up: this is a long video. We've got more thoughts we couldn't share here, on our blog! ☞ http://www.eatyourkimchi.com/ten-years-on-youtube Subscribe for more videos: ☞ http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=simonandmartina

Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point - First Amendment Audit
Since we have been having such good luck with the recent audits of military bases I wanted to check out the US Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point located in Kalaeloa, Hawaii just south of Kapolei, Hawaii. I was met with a very aggressive private security guard that not only did not know the law regarding public photography from a publically accessible area, but he even had the gall to claim that HE WAS THE LAW. This security guard is clearly a law enforcement reject that has let the tin badge he wears go to his head. Unfortunately, I let this guard get under my skin today as you will see from my response to him. As I attempted to walk away from him to continue filming the base he revved his engine as though he was going to run over me with his car. Then he made a racial slur that I needed to "go back to the mainland" insinuating that I am not a local, but a "haole" or white person, that knows nothing about the islands. Calling someone a haole, or saying that they should "go back to the mainland" are common racial slurs that white people in Hawaii often hear from these brainless twits that happen to be of a darker skin and therefore feel that they are superior. I have lived on this island for over 15 years and this was the first time in all those years that a racist pig like this private security guard has degraded me like this. Because of his actions today I am planning many, many more return visits to the station. The Coast Guard at this station will have their own security guard to thank for all of the attention that I will now be showing them. For those of you who would like to contact the station to voice your concerns of the racist security guard, I will post their contact information below. I encourage everyone to voice their opinion and let them know that we can not allow such a racist pig represent the Coast Guard like that. I have also added their Facebook page for reviews, and the address to the Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington DC. On Wednesday, August 13, Bright attended the Coos County Fair with his friend, Johnny Fish. He also called his mother, Diane, from a payphone that day, and made plans for her to pick him and his sister up in Myrtle Point on August 15. That evening, Bright met with his stepfather at a tavern owned by his grandmother, and was given money to attend the fair the next day. This was the last time he was seen by his stepfather or grandmother. On Thursday, August 14, 1986, Bright attended the fair a second time, now with his 10-year-old sister, S'te (pronounced "Est-ee"). Bright separated from his sister at approximately 2 p.m., and the two planned to meet again at 5 p.m. near the ferris wheel on the fairgrounds. He never reappeared. He was last seen wearing a black windbreaker jacket and black, size 13 Nike shoes with red shoe laces. On August 15, Bright's mother, Diane, arrived at his stepfather's house to pick up Jeremy and S'te; inside, she found Bright's wallet, watch, and the keys to their Grants Pass apartment. The following day, after Bright failed to surface, his mother contacted the authorities. Initially, police believed Bright had run away with the traveling carnival.

How to Protect Your Online Privacy
Living in a digital world can certainly make life super convenient-- like the ability to easily keep up with distant friends and relatives-- but it also makes it super easy for other people to know your stuff. Even stuff you don’t want them to know about. So can we protect our privacy online? SUBSCRIBE to Above the Noise: [https://www.youtube.com/abovethenoise...] ABOVE THE NOISE is a show that cuts through the hype and investigates the research behind controversial and trending topics in the news. Hosted by Myles Bess and Shirin Ghaffary. *NEW VIDEOS EVERY OTHER WEDNESDAY* With recent reports of high profile data breaches, ransomware attacks and the prevalence of online trackers-- it’s hard to know how best to protect your privacy online. In this video we met up with the cybersecurity experts at Electronic Frontier Foundation to learn more about who’s snooping on us online and what we can do to protect ourselves. To help you decide how to protect the things you really want to keep private from people you are most concerned about, they recommend something called “Threat Modelling” which consists of 5 questions you should ask yourself: What do I want to protect? Who do I want to protect it from? How likely is it that you will need to protect it? How bad are the consequences if you fail? How much trouble are you willing to go through in order to avoid those consequences? Jules VERNE (1828 - 1905), translated by N. D'ANVERS (1844 - 1933) Writing at the end of the American Civil War, Verne weaves this story of a Scottish merchant who, in desperation at the interruption of the flow of Southern cotton due to the Union blockade, determines to build his own fast ship and run guns to the Confederates in exchange for the cotton piling up unsold on their wharves. His simple plan becomes complicated by two passengers who board his new ship under false pretenses in order to carry out a rescue mission, one which Capt. Playfair adopts as his own cause. This is going make the Rebels in Charleston rather unhappy with him. Sure, his new ship is fast - but can it escape the cannonballs of both North and South? Jim Rohn's lessons to get rich
"I want to share with you I was raised in southwest Idaho my parents gave me an incredibly excellent start in my life which I appreciated very much. but I quit school at age 19 unfortunately my reasoning was I'm smart enough to get a job how much smarter do you need to be and with that shallow thinking. I quit school age 19 and got a job went to work a little while later got married started a little family and I'm struggling and you know trying to do my best. But it seems like each year I'm falling just a little bit further behind. Finally age 25 the climax of my sort of you know weariness with where I was not doing as well as I thought I should. I hear a knock on my door and I happen to be home alone when I opened the door. There was a little girl scout about this tall selling girl-scout cookies and she gave me the finest sales presentation I've ever heard. Girl Scouts around the world know better organization. And we've got these cookies only two dollars several flavors and with a big smile. She very politely asked me to buy no problem I wanted to buy big problem. I haven't got two dollars in my pocket now I'm a grown man I live in America. I've been to one year of college I'm married I've got a family and I don't have two dollars in my pocket and I didn't want to tell her that. So I did what I thought was next best I lied to her I said hey look I've already bought lots of Girl Scout cookies I've still got plenty in the house that we haven't eaten yet. And she said oh that's wonderful thank you very much and she leaves. When she leaves I say to myself I don't want to live like this anymore. I mean how low can you get lying to a Girl Scout that's about as low as you can go. But I promised myself that day I was going to start my search of finding opportunity. Finding somebody who could teach me and coach me on doing much better for myself and for my family and for my future and shortly after that I met a most extraordinary man. Very wealthy but a friend of mine said you've got to meet this man. He's rich but he's easy to talk to he's got a unique philosophy of business in life. And the more he told me about this man the more I said I've got to meet this guy and shortly after that I had a chance to meet him. Sure enough when I met him I was impressed obviously he was rich but he was friendly and easy to talk to". It's finished in 24 karat gold, made with real meteorite, and has the blessing of the NRA. Could this limited-edition 1911 pistol engraved "TRUMP 45" make presidential firearms great again? That's what Cabot Gun Company, a Sarver, Pennsylvania-based specialty firearms manufacturer, is aiming to find out. Rob Bianchin, Cabot Guns' founder and CEO, reveals the golden gun has a production run limited to 45. Only a lucky few -- ostensibly, those with thick wallets -- can afford to get their hands on the 45th President of the United States-inspired pistol. Prices for the Trump series range from $15,000 to $35,000, and premium models are expected to fetch in excess of $50,000. https://www.forbes.com/sites/susannahbreslin/2017/11/27/trump-45-gun/#336c7d8f5c49 Pro-Second Amendment students hold nationwide school walkout Students nationwide plan to march out of their classrooms Wednesday morning in support of the Second Amendment. Some 400 schools are expected to participate in walkouts at 10 a.m. for 16 minutes, Will Riley, the high school senior who organized the national Stand for the Second demonstrations, told Fox News. Riley, an 18-year-old who attends Carlsbad High School in New Mexico, thought media coverage of the school walkouts following the Parkland high school massacre “depicted a united front from my generation and for my generation” in support of more gun control. “That’s a myth I wanted to dispel,” he said. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/05/02/pro-second-amendment-students-hold-nationwide-school-walkout.html Bay Area Students Join National Walkout To Support 2nd Amendment, Gun Rights Some students in the Bay Area and across the country were participating Wednesday in a walkout to support gun rights and the Second Amendment. The walkout is being called, “Stand for the Second,” and supporters say it’s to protect their constitutional rights. A group of students at San Ramon’s California High School took part in the nationwide walk out. Organizers suggested students should leave class for 16 minutes at 10 a.m. “I know it’s hard when, you know, there’s so many people to tell you: you can’t do this, this is wrong, this is unsafe, you’re bad people for showing you believe in something that you’ve always believed in and something’s that a basic human right,” said student Hayden Fuller. “I was just proud that everyone was able to come out here and show what they actually believe in.” http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2018/05/02/bay-area-students-walkout-second-amendment-gun-rights/ B.C. continues to be ‘divided’ on Trans Mountain pipeline expansion British Columbians continue to be torn on how they feel about the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion. End of the Year Business Checklist - All Up In Yo' Business
As we get closer to the end of the year and starting a brand new year, a lot of business owners start thinking about what they need to do to tie up loose ends for from the past year to set themselves up for success in the upcoming new year. If that's you, then read on for my End of the Year Business Checklist. 1. Verify Information for Contractors. As the end of the year approaches, you want to make sure you verify the information for all of your independent contractors. You’ll have to start preparing 1099s to send to your independent contractors early next year, so its best that you start now and make sure you have their mailing address, social security number or tax ID number, and the financial information you’ll need to send out those 1099s come January. 2. Prepare for Taxes. A new year brings new taxes to file. (Woohoo!...not.) Start making sure you have everything in order for your CPA to make tax time as painless as possible. 3. Hold Your Annual Meeting. If your state, your bylaws, or your operating agreement require that you have an annual meeting of the members or shareholders or owners, and you haven’t done that already, it’s probably time to start thinking about holding that annual meeting. 4. Make a Budget. Now is a great time to start thinking about your budget for next year. Putting down some numbers of what you expect to bring in, expenses that you know you’ll have or that you expect to have, and making a plan of attack so you don’t end up way over-spending is a great idea and is something you can do now if you haven’t done already. 5. Set Some Goals. Another way you can start planning for next year is to start writing down some of the goals for your business for next year. 6. Check Your Status with the Secretary of State. Now is a good time to check your status with the Secretary of State and make sure your business is still in good standing. 7. Amend Your Articles of Organization/Incorporation. While you are on the Secretary of State's website, you might as well think about whether or not you need to amend your Articles of Organization. If your business name has changed, if your primary business location has moved, or you changed your registered agent, you can file Articles of Amendment to update that information. 8. Consider an S Corporation. If your business is not already taxed as an S Corporation, now is a good time to start thinking about making the switch. After the new year, you have two and a half months to file paperwork to elect to be taxed as an S Corporation. If you haven’t already done so, talk to your CPA and determine if that is the right thing to do because the clock is going to start ticking and you will have a limited amount of time to do that next year. 9. Review Your Contracts. Dust off all those old third-party contracts. There’s a good chance some of them may have already expired or will be expiring. Now's the be time to start thinking about if you can renegotiate some terms. Many contracts will automatically renew at the end of the contract term. You may need to give advanced written notice to the other party if you want to cancel the contract before it renews. Reviewing those contracts will help jog your memory as to the written notice that is necessary to cancel the contract. 10. Schedule Meetings. Meet with your advisors, mentors, coaches, and anybody else who helps you with your business. People like your CPA or accountant; you’ll want to get together with them soon to make sure that they have everything that they need so there won’t be any issues or questions that come up during tax time. Meet with your attorney for assistance with reviewing your contracts, amending your Articles of Organization, or holding your annual meeting. Contact Aiden and learn more at www.180lawco.com. Mayor Bowser Announces DC Preparedness Plan for First Amendment Events, 8/9/18
In preparation for Sunday’s First Amendment activities, Mayor Muriel Bowser announces the District’s public safety plan, which includes the signing of a Mayor’s Order that allows the Bowser Administration to activate the District’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Prior to the announcement, Mayor Bowser hosted a roundtable discussion with community and faith leaders about the upcoming events. “As the nation’s capital, we host millions of visitors each year. Fortunately, very, very few share the views that will be expressed in Lafayette Park on Sunday. Washington, DC is a city of love, inclusion, and diversity, and – like millions of Americans across the nation – we know that the people who are coming here to profess hate and sow division are wrong,” said Mayor Bowser. “This weekend, and every day going forward, we will ensure that the world knows that no matter how much attention these people demand, that they will never represent the values of our city or our nation.” The level two activation of the District’s EOC allows local, state, and federal agencies to work together to coordinate the necessary supports for all critical incident responses. Ahead of this weekend’s events, residents and visitors are being encouraged to sign up for AlertDC at alertdc.dc.gov to receive important and emergency updates from DC Government. “Several District agencies, regional partners, and federal agencies are staffing the District’s EOC to support the law enforcement response,” said DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency Director Dr. Christopher Rodriguez. “Residents and visitors should sign up for AlertDC and be prepared if they see something, to say something to law enforcement.” To prepare for the upcoming First Amendment activities, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is coordinating with U.S. Park Police (USPP) and other District and Federal partners to deploy appropriate resources and personnel for the event. “The Metropolitan Police Department facilitates safe demonstrations on a daily basis,” says Chief of Police Peter Newsham. “Our intentions are to continue to value the first amendment rights of everyone in the District of Columbia without compromising the safety of participants or bystanders.” Due to several First Amendment activities occurring in the District, MPD will enforce the following road closures on Sunday, August 12, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.: · 15th Street, NW, from Constitution Avenue to K Street, NW · 17th Street, NW, from Constitution Avenue to K Street, NW · 18th Street, NW, from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW · 19th Street, NW, from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW · 20th Street, NW, from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW · 21st Street, NW, from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW · 22nd Street, NW, from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW · 23rd Street, NW, from Virginia Avenue to Washington Circle, NW · H Street, NW from 17th Street to 15th Street, NW · I Street, NW from 17th Street to 15th Street, NW · K Street, NW from 17th Street to 15th Street, NW · Connecticut Avenue, NW, from H Street to I Street, NW · Vermont Avenue, NW, from H Street to I Street, NW · G Street, NW, from 17th Street to 23rd Street, NW · F Street, NW, from 17th Street to 23rd Street, NW · E Street, NW from 17th Street to 23rd Street, NW During the press conference, Mayor Bowser was joined by: · the Metropolitan Police Department; · DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services; · DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency; · DC Office of Human Rights; · the Mayor’s Office of Religious Affairs; and · the United States Park Police.

1st Amendment Audit - Post Falls, Idaho PASS! w/North Idaho Exposed
NNNW was not happy with the reaction North Idaho Exposed(NIE) received from The city of Coeur D'Alene Police. We wanted to give them a couple of days to recover from violating NIE's rights. After chatting with NIE we decided to head over to Post Falls. Only 10 miles from Coeur D'Alene and in the same county we wondered if we would get the same reaction. We charged up the camera's and hit the road to document how the Post Falls Police Department would react to our filming in public. The great news is they PASSED. We edited this one a bit different. No contact was made while we were outside the station. RePublic went in to get a complaint form and we had a nice interaction once inside. It was really a neat building on the inside. I'm personally not a fan of spending that much money on our public buildings, but I have to say this one was really neat. $150,000 Plan To Oust PRO-GUN Sheriff BACKFIRES➡ Bloomberg BLOW$ It !
Sheriff David Clarke FIRES back at former New York City mayor and gun control advocate Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg's Independence USA super PAC spent $150,000 to air a series of television ads targeting Clarke's conservative pro-gun policies. Bloomberg is on a crusade to DESTROY our Second Amendment freedoms. Along with Bloomberg, Citizens for Responsible Government and Citizens for Urban Justice spent $70,000 total for the same reason, the Journal Sentinel reported. But according to Sheriff Clarke, Bloomberg's efforts to influence the election backfired. Fresh off his victory in Wednesday's primary, pro-gun rights incumbent sheriff of Milwaukee County, David Clarke, Jr. speaks today; "He came in and thought he could spread a few hundred thousand dollars around to take a prized catch away that he could march around the country with in his failed crusade -- his anti-gun crusade -- and he could hold me up as an example of what might happen to others if they don't get on board with him," Clarke said. "But that didn't work here. The public was actually turned off by it." Clarke made headlines in 2013 for a radio ad that urged citizens to enroll in firearms classes following budget cuts. The National Rifle Association labelled Clarke a "rising national star," and solicited donations from its members on his behalf, buying online ads for his re-election bid. Bloomberg spokesman Howard Wolfson told the Wall Street Journal on Monday that he decided to get involved in the sheriff's race because it allowed him to shape policy on a local level. "Mayor Bloomberg made a huge miscalculation," Clarke said. "He didn't understand the political climate on the ground here in Milwaukee County. I have a lot of support for my position on support for the Second Amendment, for people to be able to defend themselves and the pro-gun movement."
