Calculate Your Heart Disease Risk | Cardiac Risk Score Calculation | Heart Disease Risk Assessment
====================================================== SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL PLEASE.... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWDyU5Z3SKdlZ0tL8WLsvRw?sub_confirmation=1 ===================================================== How to Calculate Your Heart Disease Risk There are certain risk factors that affect your chances of developing heart disease. Some of these factors are beyond your control, such as getting older, being male, or having a family history of heart disease; however, other factors you may be able to control, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, your amount of physical activity, and whether or not you smoke. In order to calculate your risk of developing heart disease, you will need to look at several different parameters and calculate the correlating numbers. You will then add up your score to see how it reflects to your risk of developing heart disease. Part 1 : Calculating Risk Factors 1.Visit your doctor for a physical and lab work. In order to calculate your risk of developing heart disease, you will have to test certain aspects of your health. Your doctor should be able to do this during a normal appointment. She will also draw a sample of your blood and test the levels of certain substances. 2.Consider your age. Heart disease is relatively uncommon in people younger than 30 years old but the risk increases with age for both men and women. Women run a slightly lower risk of heart disease than men of the same age group. 3.Add in your LDL levels. LDL cholesterol are lipids that are bad for your heart and blood vessels. They are deposited on the walls of your coronary arteries (blood vessels in the heart) and cause plaque to form. This plaque impedes blood flow and can lead to heart disease. 4.Factor in HDL cholesterol. HDL cholesterol is known as good cholesterol because it helps to lower your risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is considered “good” because it transports bad lipids back to the liver, where they are flushed from the body. 5.Consider your blood pressure as it relates to heart disease. High blood pressure is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease. 6.Account for possible diabetes. Diabetes is strongly related to heart disease. In fact, diabetics are twice as likely as non-diabetics to develop heart disease at some point in their lifetime. Part 2 : Subtracting for Protective Factors 1.Exercise regularly. Some behaviors like exercise can give you moderate protection against heart disease. Being physically active can lower your blood pressure, help to lower your cholesterol levels, and reduce your chance of having a heart attack or stroke. 2.Stop smoking. Smoking is not only terrible for your lungs but also increases your chances of getting heart disease. 3.Factor in diet. Diet is another mildly protective factor against heart disease. Put simply, the foods that you eat can control blood pressure, diabetes, weight gain, and high cholesterol. Part 3 : Assessing the Results 1.Add up your points. You have now scored all of the parameters for risk and prevention. Add up your points from the previous sections and see your final score. 2.Calculate your risk of heart disease if you are male. Take your point total and then find the corresponding percentage. This percentage represents the risk that you have of developing heart disease or of experiencing a cardiac event in the next 10 years. The points-risk relationship is different for males and females. 3.Calculate your risk if you are female. If you are a female, a total point score of less than -2 points represents a 1% risk of heart disease in the next 10 years. 4.Make changes to lower your risk. If you have a 20% or higher chance of having a heart condition in the next 10 years, you should seriously consider making some lifestyle changes. How to Calculate Your Heart Disease Risk. HOW to Reduce HEART Attack Risk? 6 BEST Ways To PREVENT Heart Attack! REDUCE RISK of GETTING STROKE
How to Reduce RISK of GETTING Heart Attack/STROKE? Tips to Lower Risk of a Heart Attack or Stroke! Sometimes, small changes to your lifestyle can really cut your odds of having a heart attack or stroke. Try this step-by-step approach. 1. Exercise a Little Each Day Moderate physical activity lowers your chances of a heart attack. Shoot for 30 minutes of exercise that gets your heart pumping at least 5 days a week. Brisk walking or swimming are some good choices. On the other 2 days, do strength training, like lifting weights. If you've got a tight schedule, break your exercise routine into small chunks. Try a 15-minute walk in the morning and another before lunch. 2. Set a Reasonable Goal for Weight Loss If you're overweight or obese, you don't have to get thin to reduce your risk for a heart attack or stroke. If you lose 5% to 10% of your weight, you'll improve your cholesterol numbers and lower your blood pressure and blood sugar levels. 3. Take Your Heart Medicine It sounds like a no-brainer, but don't skip your meds. Many people don't take their medications the way their doctor told them to. Figure out what keeps you from taking your medicine -- it could be side effects, cost, or forgetfulness -- and ask your doctor for help. 4. Eat Well If you stick to a healthy diet, you could lower your odds of getting heart disease. Fill your plate with different kinds of: Fruits Veggies Whole grains Fish Lean meats Stay away from processed or prepared foods that often are high in salt and added sugar. They’re also filled with preservatives. 5. Drink Some Alcohol, but Not Too Much If you drink, any type of alcohol helps your heart, but use caution. Too much raises your risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. To get the benefit without the risk, stop at one drink a day if you're a woman and two if you're a man. 6. Eat a Little Chocolate Go for dark chocolate, and make sure the ingredients are at least 70% cacao. It's filled with nutrients that help protect your ticker. Keep your portions small so you don't gain weight and work your heart harder. 7. Don't Smoke Smoking dramatically raises your risk of heart attacks and strokes. Talk to your doctor about how to quit. You'll also be doing your friends and family a favor, since secondhand smoke can also lead to heart disease. 8. Pay Attention to Your Symptoms Don't just hope they'll go away. See your doctor if you feel anything unusual, like shortness of breath, changes in your heart rhythm, or extreme tiredness. Also, watch for pain in your jaw or back, nausea or vomiting, sweating, or flu-like symptoms. Heart Disease: Getting Serious About Prevention Here’s one more way men and women are equal: neither sex should have heart disease. New data: Last year, Finnish investigators showed that 4 of 5 heart attacks in men could be avoided. All the men had to do were five things: be modestly active, eat a good diet, not smoke, drink alcohol moderately and maintain a normal body weight. The findings of this robust study made an impression on the cardiology community. But it was a study of just men. This year, a group of American researchers reported similar results in women. In the Nurses’ Health Study, women had to do six things to avoid heart disease: not smoke, keep a normal body weight, exercise 2.5 hours per week, eat a good diet, drink less than 1 alcoholic drink per day and watch less than 7 hours of TV each week. In this 20-year study, the 23-44 year-old nurses who made those basic choices were 73% less likely to get heart disease. These were nearly the same odds as the Finnish men. There was a bonus in the Nurses Health Study. The same six lifestyle factors prevented 93% of diabetes and 57% of high blood pressure in women. Inactivity: A note on watching too much TV: three studies published this month showed inactivity—sitting for long periods–was linked to higher rates of heart disease and even death. Although regular exercise lowered the risk, it did not eliminate it. (Athletes with desk jobs pay attention to that.) Although the research on “sitting disease” is still early, not sitting in one place for hours at a time may be an important way to live longer and better. Changing the language: Perhaps the most important thing about this new research is its effect on the language of heart disease prevention. Rather than treating diseases like high blood pressure and high cholesterol, doctors are looking at the basic and fundamental things that keep us from getting heart disease. Moving our bodies, making wise food and drink choices, not smoking and getting away from white screens will deliver far more health than any pill or capsule. I know what you may be thinking: This is not new. That’s partly true. But what’s different is that these studies are changing the way doctors think. They may now emphasize lifestyle changes before drugs. More doctors are writing prescriptions for exercise.

Risk Assessment of Cardiovascular Diseases in Obese Children
It is well established that cardiovascular disease causes excess mortality in overweight and obese populations. It is less certain whether obesity is a completely independent risk factor or whether associations with obesity are there because of other risk factors linked to obesity. Using multi-modal state-of-the-art medical measurements, personalized computational models and advanced image processing pipelines, we aim to identify highly detailed obesity phenotypes in children and teenagers. To exploit this high dimensional and multi-modal data, we propose a deep learning approach to build compact patient signatures that can be efficiently used to created predictors based on similarity computation and case-based retrieval.

10 Warning Signs Your Heart Isn't Working Properly
How to Prevent Heart Disease. About 610,000 people die from heart disease each year in the U.S. alone. There are tons of factors that can cause a person to develop heart problems, but most of them come down to poor lifestyle choices. Your body gives you warning signs early on so that you can catch an illness in its early stages or even prevent it altogether and save your life. Here are 10 of the most common red flags that indicate bad heart health. #heartproblems #healthyheart #bodysigns A cough that won't quit 1:38 A persistent cough can be a symptom of all kinds of health issues, and cardiovascular disease is one of them. For instance, a chronic cough that produces a pinkish bloody liquid is very common in people with heart failure. Despite what it sounds like, heart failure doesn't mean that the heart completely stops beating. It just means that a person’s heart isn’t pumping blood as well as it should be. As a result, the body doesn't get enough oxygen since it’s carried to all the tissues by the blood. Nausea and loss of appetite 3:07 A lot of heart disease patients show a lack of appetite, nausea, or both, even if they've had just a couple bites of food. The reason for that is built-up fluid around the liver and intestines that interferes with proper digestion. These symptoms are usually accompanied by abdominal pain, upset stomach, or feeling bloated. In fact, abdominal cramps that come and go in short spurts are extremely common right before a heart attack. Your skin becomes paler or takes on a bluish tint 5:28 Being naturally pale doesn’t necessarily mean you have a heart condition. But sudden paleness can be a result of reduced blood flow due to a heart that’s not pumping blood as effectively as it should be. Shock, which can be caused by any condition that prevents the blood in your body from circulating properly, is the main reason why people who are suffering from a heart attack or heart failure turn pale all of a sudden. Chronic or sudden fatigue 7:02 Fatigue can be one of the main symptoms indicating an impending heart attack. Women are more likely to experience heart-related fatigue than men, with 70% of female heart attack patients reporting that they’d felt extremely tired before their episode. Physical or mental activity isn't the reason for such exhaustion, and it increases by the end of the day if it’s due to a failing heart. It’s really hard for this symptom to go unnoticed. Sometimes it's exhausting just to perform even the simplest tasks, like making the bed or taking a shower. Your skin becomes paler or takes on a bluish tint 5:28 3. Skin rashes or unusual spots 6:20 2. Chronic or sudden fatigue 7:02 1. Increased perspiration 7:45 SUMMARY -If their heart isn’t working properly, a lot of men feel pain in their left arm, while women experience the same pain in either or both arms. -A persistent cough can be a symptom of all kinds of health issues, and cardiovascular disease is one of them. -When your heart isn’t pumping enough blood through the body, fluid from your blood vessels leaks into surrounding tissues. Your lower extremities are the most affected simply due to gravity. -A lot of heart disease patients show a lack of appetite, nausea, or both, even if they've had just a couple bites of food. -People who suffer from extreme anxiety from a very early age or most of their life are more prone to developing coronary heart disease. -Feeling lightheaded and experiencing temporary loss of consciousness, also known in the scientific community as “syncope”, is super common among heart patients. -Sudden paleness can be a result of reduced blood flow due to a heart that’s not pumping blood as effectively as it should be. -People with eczema were found to have a 48% chance of suffering from high blood pressure and a 29% possibility of having high cholesterol. -Sometimes it's exhausting just to perform even the simplest tasks, like making the bed or taking a shower before a heart attack. -People experience flu-like symptoms, have clammy skin, and sweat regardless of the air temperature or physical exertion. 5 Tips to Prevent Heart Disease And Stroke
5 Tips to Prevent Heart Disease And Stroke. 1. Take responsibility for your health. Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in America, accounting for 34 percent of deaths, many suddenly and almost all of them premature. This is down from 40 percent just four decades ago, mainly due to treatment of common risk factors. If you have diabetes, your risk increases dramatically. The best prevention against heart disease and stroke is to understand the risks and treatment options. The greatest risk is ignorance or misinformation. The first step is to take responsibility for your health. 2. Know your risks. The most influential risk factor for cardiovascular disease is age – the older you are, the greater your risk. The second is your genetic make-up. Although everyone is excited by the scientific progress in genomics research, conclusive gene tests are still in their infancy. But, as I tell our medical students, “A good family history is a poor man’s gene test.” We have long known that if your parents, grandparents, or other relatives were afflicted with or died of heart disease, diabetes or stroke, your risk is much greater. 3. Don’t smoke or expose yourself to second-hand smoke. The evidence is overwhelming that cigarette smoking and second-hand exposure to smoke increases the risks of heart disease, lung disease, peripheral vascular disease and stroke. 4 . Limit your calories. Fad diets do not work. If any of them did, we all would be on THAT one, wouldn’t we? The obesity rate in Americans is alarming, contributing to a near epidemic of diabetes, which is a cardiovascular disease. If you have diabetes, your risk is the same as someone who already had a heart attack. Obesity is caused by consuming more calories than your body burns. Abdominal obesity is the major risk. Portion sizes and the amount of sugars in the American diet have dramatically increased over the past few decades. At the same time, the daily amount of exercise has been decreasing. It is good advice to “drink slim” (water, tea, coffee). 5. Make exercise a daily habit. The lack of exercise is contributing to the obesity epidemic in Americans. Studies indicate that walking two miles a day is optimal for overall health, and those two miles of walking do not have to be done all at once. Exercise does more than burn calories; it also activates genes that are beneficial to health in other ways. Plus, exercise is one of the best treatments for depression and anxiety. However, exercise alone cannot control or reduce your weight – you must also modify your diet.

Million of people die due to heart disease in Pakistan, Dawn report
Pakistani population has one of the highest risks of coronary heart disease (CHD) in the world. In Pakistan, 30 to 40 per cent of all deaths are due to cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The CHD deaths in Pakistan has reached about 200,000 per year that is 410/100,000 of the population. Children are vulnerable too; the risk for CVDs can begin before birth during fatal development, and increase further during childhood with exposure to unhealthy diets, lack of exercise and smoking. The major risk factors are tobacco use, alcohol use, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, physical inactivity, stress and unhealthy diet. “The more risk factors you have the greater is the likelihood that you will suffer heart disease, unless you take action to modify your risk factors and work to prevent them compromising your health. Fact Sheet: 33% of Pakistani population above the age of 45 has hypertension Prevalence of hypertension is 19% in people of age 15 or above Pakistan ranks at number six in terms of number of people with diabetes worldwide. Diabetic patients will rise to 13.9 million by 2020, leading Pakistan to 4th most populous country . 25% of patients over the age of 45 years suffer Diabetes Mellitus. Prevalence of smoking has been reported to be 14-21% in adolescents and adults, being more common in men . The estimated annual incidences of stroke in Pakistan are 250/100,000, translating to 350,000 new cases every year . Every 9th Pakistani is suffering from Liver Diseases. 300,000 patients have dire need of Liver Transplant . Source:Journal of Pakistan Medical Association& National Health Survey (2011)

Halving Global Cardiovascular Disease Mortality
Cardiovascular disease (CVD), which includes heart attack, stroke and heart failure, is the leading cause of death in the world today, with an estimated 17.5 million deaths per year. On September 15, 2016, we hosted the Halving Global Cardiovascular Disease Mortality Rates symposium. The symposium highlighted the growing global burden of CVD and the powerful evidence generated from population-level surveys and studies in China, Cuba, India, Mexico, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. The sessions explored tobacco use, obesity, diabetes, and hypertension, main risk factors that have a direct impact on CVD morbidity and mortality. Sir Richard Peto, Professor of Medical Statistics and Epidemiology at the University of Oxford, provided the keynote address on primary and secondary prevention. The CDC Foundation presented its Hero Award to Sir Richard in recognition of his efforts to save countless lives worldwide by uncovering the root causes of CVD and cancer and bringing data to bear on public policies. Tobacco and the Human Body 1954 Encyclopedia Britannica Films; Effects of Cigarette Smoking
Biology, Medicine, Anatomy, Physiology playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDAD05F3383DCCD14 more at http://scitech.quickfound.net/biology_medical_news_search.html "Early film on tobacco's physical effects." Public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_effects_of_tobacco The health effects of tobacco are the circumstances, mechanisms, and factors of tobacco consumption on human health. Epidemiological research has been focused primarily on cigarette tobacco smoking, which has been studied more extensively than any other form of consumption. Tobacco is the single greatest cause of preventable death globally. Tobacco use leads most commonly to diseases affecting the heart and lungs, with smoking being a major risk factor for heart attacks, strokes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (including emphysema and chronic bronchitis), and cancer (particularly lung cancer, cancers of the larynx and mouth, and pancreatic cancer). It also causes peripheral vascular disease and hypertension. The effects depend on the number of years that a person smokes and on how much the person smokes. Starting smoking earlier in life and smoking cigarettes higher in tar increases the risk of these diseases. Also, environmental tobacco smoke, or secondhand smoke, has been shown to cause adverse health effects in people of all ages. Cigarettes sold in underdeveloped countries tend to have higher tar content, and are less likely to be filtered, potentially increasing vulnerability to tobacco-related disease in these regions... Smoke contains several carcinogenic pyrolytic products that bind to DNA and cause many genetic mutations. There are over 19 known chemical carcinogens in cigarette smoke . Tobacco also contains nicotine, which is a highly addictive psychoactive chemical... A person's increased risk of contracting disease is directly proportional to the length of time that a person continues to smoke as well as the amount smoked. However, if someone stops smoking, then these chances gradually decrease as the damage to their body is repaired. A year after quitting, the risk of contracting heart disease is half that of a continuing smoker. The health risks of smoking are not uniform across all smokers. Risks vary according to amount of tobacco smoked, with those who smoke more at greater risk. Light cigarette smoking still poses a significant (though reduced) health risk, as does pipe and cigar smoking. Smoking so-called "light" cigarettes does not reduce the risk. Tobacco use most commonly leads to diseases affecting the heart and lungs and will most commonly affect areas such as hands or feet with first signs of smoking related health issues showing up as numbness, with smoking being a major risk factor for heart attacks, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), emphysema, and cancer, particularly lung cancer, cancers of the larynx and mouth, and pancreatic cancer. Overall life expectancy is also reduced in regular smokers, with estimates ranging from 10 to 17.9 years fewer than nonsmokers. About one half of male smokers will die of illness due to smoking. The association of smoking with lung cancer is strongest, both in the public perception and etiologically. People who have smoked tobacco at some point have about a one in ten chance of developing lung cancer during their lifetime. If one looks at men who continue to smoke tobacco, the risk increases to one in six... Mortality Male and female smokers lose an average of 13.2 to 14.5 years of life, respectively. According to the results of a 50 year study of 34,486 male British doctors, at least half of all life-long smokers die earlier as a result of smoking. Smokers are three times as likely to die before the age of 60 or 70 as non-smokers. In the United States, cigarette smoking and exposure to tobacco smoke accounts for roughly one in five, or at at least 443,000 premature deaths annually. To put this into context, in the US alone, tobacco kills the equivalent of three jumbo jets full of people crashing every day, with no survivors. On a worldwide basis, this equates to a single jumbo jet every hour. Cancer The primary risks of tobacco usage include many forms of cancer, particularly lung cancer, kidney cancer, cancer of the larynx and head and neck, breast cancer, bladder cancer, cancer of the esophagus, cancer of the pancreas and stomach cancer...

What is Yoga and Mindfulness? Why Do I Need It?
What is yoga? What is mindfulness? And how do I meditate? I meet Kosta from Vikasa Yoga Retreat in Koh Samui, Thailand to find out why yoga, mindfulness and meditation are the keys to greater happiness. Here's a bit more info from our friends at Wikipedia: Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice or discipline which originated in India. There is a broad variety of schools, practices, and goals in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Among the most well-known types of yoga are Hatha yoga and Rāja yoga. The origins of yoga have been speculated to date back to pre-Vedic Indian traditions, is mentioned in the Rigveda, but most likely developed around the sixth and fifth centuries BCE, in ancient India's ascetic and śramaṇa movements. The chronology of earliest texts describing yoga-practices is unclear, varyingly credited to Hindu Upanishads and Buddhist Pāli Canon, probably of third century BCE or later. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali date from the first half of the 1st millennium CE, but only gained prominence in the West in the 20th century. Hatha yoga texts emerged around the 11th century with origins in tantra. Yoga gurus from India later introduced yoga to the west, following the success of Swami Vivekananda in the late 19th and early 20th century. In the 1980s, yoga became popular as a system of physical exercise across the Western world. Yoga in Indian traditions, however, is more than physical exercise, it has a meditative and spiritual core. One of the six major orthodox schools of Hinduism is also called Yoga, which has its own epistemology and metaphysics, and is closely related to Hindu Samkhya philosophy. Many studies have tried to determine the effectiveness of yoga as a complementary intervention for cancer, schizophrenia, asthma, and heart disease. The results of these studies have been mixed and inconclusive, with cancer studies suggesting none to unclear effectiveness, and others suggesting yoga may reduce risk factors and aid in a patient's psychological healing process.

Cortisol: The Death Hormone (How To Lower Cortisol Levels Naturally)
Want to learn how to lower cortisol levels naturally? Cortigon is one of the most powerful supplements to lower cortisol - https://www.truthnutra.com/cortigon-yt What is Cortisol? Cortisol is a glucocorticoid hormone (one of the stress hormones) that is essential for human life. However, in the presence of chronic stress, cortisol levels surge to unhealthy high levels, causing a major problem and a real tangible threat to your health and longevity. Most disturbingly, recent studies have shown that chronically elevated cortisol levels are strongly associated with increased risks of dying. For example, one study showed that men with high cortisol levels were 63%, and women 82%, more likely to die than those with lower levels. Schoorlemmer RM, Peeters GM, van Schoor NM, et al. Relationships between cortisol level, mortality and chronic diseases in older persons. Clin Endocrinol (Oxf). 2009;71(6):779-86. The risks of dying specifically from cardiovascular disease are even more pronounced in those with high cortisol: one study found a five-fold increased risk of death, both among those with known cardiovascular disease and with people previously free of risk factors at baseline. Vogelzangs N, Beekman AT, Milaneschi Y, et al. Urinary cortisol and six-year risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. J Clin Endocrinol Metab. 2010;95(11):4959-64. High cortisol levels create havoc through the body’s systems and are associated with a long list of age-accelerating diseases including obesity, hypertension, type II diabetes, and cardiovascular risk, as well as increased risk of infection, osteoporosis, depression, and even neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. (Sources: Vogelzangs N, Beekman AT, Milaneschi Y, et al. Urinary cortisol and six-year risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. J Clin Endocrinol Metab. 2010;95(11):4959-64. 20 Fattest Countries In The World (2018)
Americans are the fattest nation in the world, right? Wrong! That title belongs to a tiny island nation in Central Pacific. Keep watching to find out which 20 countries are the fattest in the world in 2018 ! 20. Bahamas The Bahamas might be a dream destination for tourists from all over the world, but this country also has the highest percentage of overweight people in Latin American and the Caribbean. Nearly 70% of the Bahamian population is overweight and Bahamian women have a significantly higher rate of obesity than men. The obesity rate for Bahamian women is 42.5% and Bahamian men 29.7 %. Bahamas also has one of the highest rates of diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases in the world. The obesity epidemic in the Bahamas is often blamed on traditional cuisine that features meals full of fat, sugar and salt. However, people in the Bahamas are also eating more processed fast-food than ever due to economic growth, increased urbanization, and the integration of the region into international markets. 19. United Arab Emirates In the United Arab Emirates metabolic risks associated to obesity and a high body mass index are the biggest contributing factor of and disease. If the obesity rates continue to grow at this pace, it is predicted that healthcare spending in the Emirates will more than double to $47.5 billion by 2040. Obesity is becoming a huge problem among children and adolescents in the UAE and records show that nearly 40% of all children enrolled in Grade 8 in the emirate of Abu Dhabi are classified as either overweight or obese. Health regulators in this country are currently discussing the implementation of front-of-pack labeling for pre-packaged foods, as well as a 20% decrease in the sugar content of food products in an attempt to curb the spread of obesity. 18. Lebanon Over the last 12 years, levels of obesity among children and young people in Lebanon have risen dramatically - from 20.0% to 21.2% in the 6-19 year old population. The rise in obesity rates is partially blamed on changing lifestyles, particularly the rise of sedentary behavior in the child and adolescent population, which has increased from 19.9% in 1997 to 60.5% in 2009. The average Lebanese diet has also changed significantly in recent decades, leading to a rise in average energy intake of 850 kcal per person per day between 1970 and 2005. The obesity prevalence among Lebanese adults, of 27.4% for men and 28.8% for women, places this country above countries in western and northern Europe. 17. Egypt A diet full of sugar, meat and simple carbs coupled with few opportunities for exercise have left 62% of Egyptians overweight. An average serving at Egyptian restaurants contains an estimated 800 calories, which is more than a third of recommended daily caloric intake for men and more than half for women. In Egypt, obesity doesn’t seem to be bound by social class. Low-income families turn to rice and potato dishes to fill stomachs at the end of a long day, while the wealthy who can afford to eat meat with almost every meal, also have access to fast food, which is considered a luxury in the Middle East. Sugar-addiction is also a big problem in Egypt. Egyptians from all walks of life add sugar in their tea, and have five or six of these per day, each with two or three teaspoons of sugar in it. 16. Turkey While nearly 1 billion people around the world are starving, obesity is becoming a severe health problem for the rest of the world and Turkey is no exception. According to the Turkish Health Ministry, over 30% of all adults of 19 years of age and above in Turkey are considered to be extremely overweight. In Turkish children aged between 7 and 14-years-old, the prevalence of obesity is 12-15%, while 27-28% of adult males and 32-35% of adult females in Turkey are classified as obese. Besides smoking and alcohol consumption, the most concerning issue for Turkey’s health future is inactivity. It is estimated that less than 20% of Turks can be considered active, and over 50% of Turkish children only spend two hours outside the house at the weekend and even less during the week. Before we move on to #15, quickly subscribe to our channel so you don’t miss any of our upcoming videos! 15. Jordan Government health reports in Jordan indicate that about 40% of Jordanian adults are overweight and child obesity stands at more than 50%. There are also over 300,000 new cases of diabetes in Jordan each year, mostly related to excessive weight gain. In Jordan, almost twice as many women are considered obese as men, which is why Jordan’s Queen Rania has launched the Royal Health Awareness Society initiative to increase public awareness and promote the benefits of sports and leading a healthy life. 6 things you need to stop doing before you're 40 for your heart
It's possible to get to 40 and not experience any heart problems, even if you have some less than ideal habits. However, around that age, your body does not work as well as when you were 20, and if you haven't been taking care of your body, you will begin to feel it.'A number of risk factors for heart disease really start to go up in [a person's] 40s,' says Deepak Bhatt: the executive director of interventional cardiovascular programs at Brigham and Women's Hospital Heart & Vascular Centre, and a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.'The risk for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes all start to go up substantially,' he said.In an interview with NetDocter, Bhatt describes the six major risky choices you can make for your heart on the way to 40, and some suggestions on how you can improve.Smoking is a major cause of heart disease.Because quitting is hard, persistence is key, says Richard Stein, a cardiologist, and professor of medicine at New York University's Langone Health.Apparently, those who've managed to quit successfully did so after between seven and 10 initial failed attempts.Stein advises talking to a GP and developing a strategy for yourself for the best results, while being aware that failure is a normal part of the quitting process.Perhaps unsurprisingly, a poor diet and expanding waistline can contribute to heart disease.Furthermore, once you reach the age of 40, bad dietary habits really start to show as your metabolism slows down.'Your metabolism is slowing, so if you're doing what you've always done, you may start gaining weight,' Dr.Bhatt says.Better eating habits will help. However, Bhatt recommends weighing yourself every day to keep an eye on your weight.Small fluctuations are natural, he says, but trends upward could be concerning and may mean reevaluating what you're eating.Ideally, you will stay within a margin of 15 pounds (or around 7kg) about the goal weight established during conversations with your GP.Controlling portion size and not being greedy is key to a healthy heart.Generally speaking, lowering your calorie intake is a good idea.More specifically, you can envision your foodin ball shapes to helpfully control your portion sizes. For instance, a fist of protein (85g), a tennis ball of grains (65g) and a baseball ball of greens (130g) per meal is normal. In terms of fats, you should stick to just a single teaspoon of butter per portion, one of olive oil or two of nut butter.Importantly, you should only eat when hungry. After a each meal, if you are still hungry, wait a little while.Eat a little more if your hunger persists, but only low calorie options like fruit and vegetables. Not going to the gym - or going too much Dr.Stein says that regular exercise is one of the best things you can do for your heart throughout your life.He advises exercising 30 to 45 minutes per day, three to four times a week. However, workouts that are too intensive can do damage just like having too little exercise.

You know that exercise and a good diet can keep your heart healthy. But what else can you do to keep your ticker going strong? Here are five key things you need to do every day to help your heart work most efficiently. Incorporate these habits into your lifestyle and your heart health will be the best it can be for you. 1. Eat healthy fats, NOT trans fats We need fats in our diet, including saturated and polyunsaturated and unsaturated fats. One fat we don’t need is trans fat, which is known to increase your risk of developing heart disease or having a stroke over a lifetime. This is because trans fat clogs your arteries by raising your bad cholesterol levels (LDL) and lowering your good cholesterol levels (HDL). By cutting them from your diet, you improve the blood flow throughout your body. So, what are trans fats? They are industry-produced fats often used in packaged baked goods, snack foods, margarines and fried fast foods to add flavor and texture. Tip: Read the labels on all foods. Trans fat appears on the ingredients list as partially hydrogenated oils. Look for 0 percent trans fat. Make it a point to avoid eating foods with trans fat. RELATED: Trans Fats, Not Saturated Fats, Link to Health Risks 2. Practice good dental hygiene, especially flossing your teeth daily Dental health is a good indication of overall health, including your heart, because those who have periodontal (gum) disease often have the same risk factors for heart disease. Studies continue on this issue, but many have shown that bacteria in the mouth involved in the development of gum disease can move into the bloodstream and cause an elevation in C-reactive protein, a marker for inflammation in the blood vessels. These changes may in turn, increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. Tip: Floss and brush your teeth daily to ward off gum disease. It’s more than cavities you may have to deal with if you are fighting gum disease. RELATED: Could You Be Ruining Your Teeth With These 5 Bad Habits? 3. Get enough sleep Sleep is an essential part of keeping your heart healthy. If you don’t sleep enough, you may be at a higher risk for cardiovascular disease no matter your age or other health habits. One study looking at 3,000 adults over the age of 45 found that those who slept fewer than six hours per night were about twice as likely to have a stroke or heart attack as people who slept six to eight hours per night. Researchers believe sleeping too little causes disruptions in underlying health conditions and biological processes, including blood pressure and inflammation. Tip: Make sleep a priority. Get 7 to 8 hours of sleep most nights. If you have sleep apnea, you should be treated as this condition is linked to heart disease and arrhythmias. RELATED: Do You Snore? How Sleep Apnea Can Hurt Your Heart 4. Don’t sit for too long at one time In recent years, research has suggested that staying seated for long periods of time is bad for your health no matter how much exercise you do. This is bad news for the many people who sit at sedentary jobs all day. When looking at the combined results of several observational studies that included nearly 800,000 people, researchers found that in those who sat the most, there was an associated 147 percent increase in cardiovascular events and a 90 percent increase in death caused by these events. In addition, sitting for long periods of time (especially when traveling) increases your risk of deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot). Tip: Exerts say it’s important to move throughout the day. Park farther away from the office, take a few shorter walks throughout the day and/or use a standing work station so you can move up and down. And remember to exercise on most days. RELATED: Can Sitting Too Much Cause Your Heart Attack? 5. Avoid secondhand smoke like the plague Studies show that the risk of developing heart disease is about 25 to 30 percent higher for people who are exposed to secondhand smoke at home or work. Inflammation Short Title // WellBeingGPS.com
We all know what inflammation in a joint feels like. Twisting an ankle results in pain and swelling – the body’s attempt to get us off of our feet for a while and ultimately to repair any damage that was done. In this instance, inflammation is part of the healing process. But when someone’s body has the tendency towards inappropriate inflammation, which can happen for a variety of reasons, then inflammation becomes a significant problem that can lead to any chronic disease – and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, autoimmune diseases and many types of cancer. In this webinar, Holistic Pharmacist Brian Sanderoff will discuss the factors that lead to inappropriate inflammation, how to measure whether it is an issue with you or not, the role that your genetics plays in this process and the things you can do to reverse this trend, including changes in diet and lifestyle, and also supplements that are helpful.
