Eczema rash | 8 Root Causes Of Eczema Doctors Never Treat - skin rashes

04:06
Eczema rash | 8 Root Causes Of Eczema Doctors Never Treat - skin rashes. Eczema includes medical conditions in which the skin is inflamed and irritated. The skin disorders cause symptoms like inflammation, dryness, redness, and scaling. Eczema is more common in babies and small children, and only 2-4% of all adults develop eczema at some point in their life. The outer layer of the skin becomes inflamed and damaged, which creates perfect conditions for irritation and sensitivity. Health experts have recognized acute and chronic symptoms: Inflamed skin, Itchiness, Blisters, Peeling, flaking skin, Cuts and cracks caused by dryness, Changes in skin color and texture, Burning caused by irritation, Main causes of eczema: Eczema is usually treated with creams and ointments, but the problem lies deep in the system. The treatment of eczema should start from the core of the problem. Treating the symptoms won’t do the trick, as they will soon come back, and you’ll have to start all over again. We give you some of the most common root causes of eczema: 1. Genes: Your genes carry information, and if you are predisposed to develop eczema, there’s no way to stop it. Mutated genes affect the production of filaggrin, a protein that protects the corneal skin layer. 2. Low sebum production: The skin dries due to insufficient production of natural oils. Genetic factors or poor immunity affect the production of serum. 3. Weak immune system: Low immune system can’t fight inflammation or ward of yeast and bacteria. Medication, autoimmune disorders, untreated infections, nutrient deficiencies, and weak intestinal function can affect the role of your immune system. 4. Allergies: Allergies trigger the release of antibodies and affect the immune response. Some foods, chemical exposure, harsh toxins, perfumes and soaps cause allergies. 5. Toxicity: Smoking and pollution leave traces of toxins in the body, and overtime these buildups manifest on the skin. Excessive use of antibiotics has a devastating effect on the immune system, and lead to toxicity. 6. Climate: People who live in cold countries or developed countries are more prone to eczema, due to dry and cold weather. Pollution and unhealthy dietary habits can also lead to the development of severe skin disorders. 7. Formula: Breastfeeding protects the baby from allergies, unlike formula-fed babies who are more prone to eczema. 8. Vaccines: Scientists are working on specific testing that would determine whether vaccines cause eczema. It may be just a coincidence, but the number of eczema sufferers has multiplied after the use of vaccines increased. This requires further research, and scientists will soon confirm the link between vaccines and eczema. Tips on how to treat eczema: Scratching can additionally worsen your problem, so try not to do it. Don’t peel dried skin either, as this may cause open sores and bacterial infections. Carefully pick your food. The same applies to skin care products and cleaning products, because some of the ingredients may cause allergies. Eat more foods packed with anti-inflammatory foods to strengthen your immune system. Use homemade eczema creams based on natural ingredients. Warning: Sudden Bee Sting Allergy - Signs, Symptoms, and Dangers of Anaphylaxis

14:12
Daniel has been stung dozens or maybe even hundreds of times without a reaction. But the development of sudden allergic reactions can happen at any age and to anyone. There are signs and symptoms to look out for and we urge everyone watching to learn the symptoms and consider emergency management and treatment options. Sources: anyone can develop a potentially life-threatening (severe) allergy to insect stings or bites—even after being stung or bitten several times before without a problem. https://www.epipen.com/what-is-anaphylaxis/what-causes-anaphylaxis/bee-sting-allergy The riskiest symptoms to watch for are: Itching, hives, or swelling over a large part of your body -- not just where you got stung Face, throat or tongue starts to swell Trouble breathing Dizziness Stomach cramps Nausea or diarrhea http://www.webmd.com/allergies/understanding-bee-sting-allergies-basics#1 First-time exposure may produce only a mild reaction. Repeated exposures may lead to more serious reactions. Once a person has had an exposure or an allergic reaction (is sensitized), even a very limited exposure to a very small amount of allergen can trigger a severe reaction. https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/000005.htm INSECT STING ANAPHYLAXIS Check the person's airway, breathing, and circulation (the ABC's of Basic Life Support). A warning sign of dangerous throat swelling is a very hoarse or whispered voice, or coarse sounds when the person is breathing in air. If necessary, begin rescue breathing and CPR. What Causes Eczema In Adults Besides Diet?

04:21
Discover what's REALLY causing your eczema: http://TheTruthAboutEczema.com Hey guys, Today's video is going to be another short one. I got a very interesting question from a woman today on email asking me: "Wilding, what's the difference between adult onset eczema and like infant eczema? Why do babies get eczema and then some adults get eczema like way later in life it makes no sense. And how can a baby just be born with eczema if this is something that's caused by diet and gut issues then why would a healthy perfect newborn baby all of a sudden develop eczema?" And it's absolutely fascinating. So I always talk about the underlying gut pathology behind eczema. Why gut permeability or intestinal permeability, also known as leaky gut is always at the cause behind eczema but there are many thing that can cause that to occur. So in babies it's fascinating because most babies are not born with eczema. They develop eczema at very predictable points in their development as children. And I got eczema right after a vaccine. So babies most often get eczema from vaccines. And adults, if thy didn't get eczema as kids from a vaccine, they're going to develop eczema slowly over time by eroding their gut lining through bad diet, bad lifestyle choices and things like stress, medication stuff like that . So, both are totally fixable through diet and lifestyle changes and supplementation. But the difference is obviously that cause so vaccines...I don't know why anyone gets vaccinated to be honest. We are injecting healthy newborn babies with mercury, thimerisol and these preservatives which are used to preserve these vaccines. And these compounds are some of the most toxic, poisonous substances on the planet and we somehow believe that it's just okay to inject this stuff into newborn babies. I'll do a whole video on vaccines eventually but I basically just wanted to answer that question quickly in this video. When it happens with adults it's usually lifestyle and diet related. And when it happens with kids it usually occurs ver soon after a vaccinate - most of then measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, otherwise known as MMR vaccine. There are some other vaccines that do it too. So if you're having a kid and you're thinking about vaccines I highly recommend just option out of that completely. In domes states I know that it's a criminal offence and in some countries too but I spoke to a woman a while back on email and she said, I can't remember which states she said she was in, maybe Florida, but she said you can opt out on religious grounds so I highly recommend you do some research into that. Don';t vaccinate your kids, forget about what anybody says, of course do your own homework, do our own research, but you don't want to risk your child's immune system for life. My whole life has been wrecked because of a vaccine that I got which has compromised my immune system. And of course eating like crap for 20 odd years didn't help.

Adrenal Fatigue Causes Delayed Food Sensitivity

05:17
https://www.drlam.com/blog/signs-and-symptoms-delayed-food-sensitivity/14288/ Food sensitivities can be acute or can be delayed. In the case of adrenal fatigue, most of the time we see people that have problems taking certain foods. But their problem is not right away, it's not an emergency situation. They don't get shortness of breath and anaphylactic shock, that type of situation. What they do develop is that they eat a certain food and then there is a delay. Maybe one day, maybe two days. Their body will start to be more fatigued and more anxious, brain fog will come on. So this is the type of slow onset that is quite characteristic of adrenal fatigue. Now, this type of delayed food sensitivity is related to an immunoglobulin, what we call IgG mediated. So it is very different from the acute, what we call food allergies that people think of such as peanuts where people stop breathing, so this is not the same kind. This kind is very slow, progressive, you know it doesn't make you really bad all of a sudden, but slowly, slowly it gets worse. And if you don't take care of it, this type of food sensitivity, especially to dairy products, corn, wheat, gluten, and even soy, can get worse. The threshold for stimulating these problems can get lower, so with each successive food sensitivity episode such as headaches, irritability I talked earlier, brain fog, you know, the more you're exposed to these kinds of food, the lower the amount of the food is necessary to generate the same amount of sensitivity; and you can track this. Now bear in mind these symptoms are the symptoms of very advanced adrenal fatigue. These are not your normal early stage adrenal fatigue symptoms, so don't get confused. When these symptoms happen, the body is already in a state of disarray, usually, internally. It is not very happy, it is sometimes throwing what we call a temper tantrum along the way, and you know some days you will feel better, some days you will feel worse; but over time, you will notice that the body will get more and more weak and will not be able to tolerate these foods; and it can take years and decades. I said earlier the most common is corn, wheat, and dairy products, so the first thing you do is to be able to recognize that this is a problem that can be related to adrenal fatigue. Often times, food testing is not that accurate and even if it shows up that way it often times is not a solution, meaning you many many foods are going to be problematic, not just a few. The simplest way is just to avoid corn, wheat, gluten, as we mentioned earlier dairy, and let's see how the body reacts. But know that delayed food sensitivity is related to adrenal fatigue; and the reason is because the body is in a slowdown mode. Remember we're talking about advanced adrenal fatigue now, we're not talking about your early adrenal fatigue. In advanced adrenal fatigue, the body slows down, assimilation goes down and the gut biome is disrupted. There's dysbiosis going on, pH will be disrupted. Food breakdown is going to be compromised, and as a result, food particles becomes bigger and you have these sensitivities that're going to come on, because bigger food particles that are not broken down means that it's harder for the liver to work, and even though the liver works very, very hard, the excessive metabolites cause toxic reactions. And these toxic reactions, if it's not resolved over a period of time or allowed to continue over time will cause more problems. And that's why a lot of people with food sensitivities usually have a sense of adrenal issues along the way and know this is important to help formulate the overall picture of what adrenal fatigue is all about. Side Effects of Prednisone - That You Should Be Aware Of Before Using ❗

03:12
side effects of prednisone is used to treat conditions such as arthritis, blood disorders, breathing problems, severe allergies, skin diseases, cancer, eye problems, and immune system disorders. Prednisone long term side effects belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It decreases your immune system's response to various diseases to reduce symptoms such as swelling and allergic-type reactions. Prednisone side effects in men may weaken your immune system. A weakened immune system makes you more likely to get infections. More common side effects The more common side effects that occur with prednisone side effects short term include: confusion excitement restlessness headache nausea vomiting thinning skin acne trouble sleeping weight gain severe allergic reactions changes in emotions or moods, such as depression changes in vision eye pain infection, with symptoms such as: fever or chills cough sore throat trouble or pain in passing urine high blood sugar, with symptoms such as: increased thirst passing urine more often feeling sleepy or confused swelling of your ankles or feet The most commonly reported adverse effects associated with corticosteroid use include fluid retention, alteration in glucose tolerance, high blood pressure, behavior and mood changes, increased appetite and weight gain. Side effects of prednisone and other corticosteroids range from mild annoyances to serious, irreversible organ damage, and they occur more frequently with higher doses and more prolonged treatment. Common side effects include: Retention of sodium (salt) and fluid Weight gain on prednisone High blood pressure Loss of potassium Headache Muscle weakness Nausea Vomiting Acne Thinning skin moon face Serious side effects include: Hiccups Puffiness of the face (moon face) Growth of facial hair Thinning and easy bruising of the skin Impaired wound healing Glaucoma Cataracts Ulcers in the stomach and duodenum Worsening of diabetes Irregular menses Rounding of the upper back ("buffalo hump") Obesity Retardation of growth in children Convulsions Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reactions like hives, itching, skin rash, swollen lips/tongue/face) Vision changes Congestive heart failure Heart attack Pulmonary edema Syncope Tachycardia Thrombophlebitis Vasculitis Allergic dermatitis Low blood pressure Amenorrhea (lack of menstruation) Newly onset diabetes Hyperglycemia Hypothyroidism Pancreatitis Anemia Amnesia This drug also causes psychiatric disturbances, which include: what is considered a high dose of prednisone Depression Euphoria Insomnia Mood swings Personality changes Psychotic behavior Other possible serious side effects of this drug include: Prednisone short term dosage and diabetes: is associated with new onset or manifestations of latent diabetes, and worsening of diabetes. Diabetics may require higher doses of diabetes medications while taking. Allergic reaction: Some people may develop a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to prednisone withdrawal after 5 days that includes swelling of the airways (angioedema) that may result in shortness of breath or airway blockage. Immune suppression: Prednisone 60 mg for 5 days side effects suppresses the immune system and, therefore, increases the frequency or severity of infections and decreases the effectiveness of vaccines and antibiotics. Osteoporosis: Prednisone may cause osteoporosis that results in fractures of bones. Patients taking long-term prednisone often receive supplements of calcium and vitamin D to counteract the effects on bones. Calcium and vitamin D probably are not enough, however, and treatment with bisphosphonates such as alendronate (Fosamax) and risedronate (Actonel) may be necessary. Calcitonin (Miacalcin) also is effective. The development of osteoporosis and the need for treatment can be monitored using bone density scans. Adrenal insufficiency and weaning off prednisone: Prolonged use of prednisone and other corticosteroids causes the adrenal glands to atrophy (shrink) and stop producing the body's natural corticosteroid, cortisol. tapering off prednisone after short term use Necrosis of hips and joints: A serious complication of long-term use of allergic reaction Prednisone is aseptic necrosis of the hip joints. Aseptic necrosis is a condition in which there is death and degeneration of the hip bone. It is a painful condition that ultimately can lead to the need for surgical replacement of the hip. Aseptic necrosis also has been reported in the knee joints. The estimated incidence of aseptic necrosis among long-term users of corticosteroids is 3%-4%. Patients taking corticosteroids who develop pain in the hips or knees should report the pain to their doctors promptly. Patient Advice Medical Disclaimer: It is always advised that Patients should check with their healthcare provider before starting any new medications, including herbal supplements and over the counter products, or receiving any vaccinations.

Dr. Robert Bastian of Bastian Voice Institute explains laryngospasm with video of the larynx and a simulated attack. Laryngospasm is a sudden, often severe attack of difficulty breathing, typically lasting between 30 and 90 seconds. Usually the individual makes a frightening noise while trying to breathe in during the episode, which they often call a "choking attack. You will hear the types of noises often made by the person experiencing laryngospasm, and see what the vocal cords are doing at the same time. Tingling Lips: 10 Possible Causes

11:01
Tingling Lips: 10 Possible Causes Is it Raynaud’s syndrome? In general, tingling lips are nothing to worry about and will usually clear up on their own. However, in Raynaud’s syndrome, tingling lips are an important symptom. There are two main types of Raynaud’s syndrome, also known as Raynaud’s phenomenon. Of the two types, primary Raynaud’s syndrome is the most common. In primary Raynaud’s, tingling lips usually result from stress or exposure to cold temperatures. No medication or urgent care is needed. Secondary Raynaud’s is caused by an underlying condition, and symptoms are more extensive. Blood flow to the body, especially the hands and feet, is often affected. Reduced blood flow can cause the affected areas to turn a blue color. In those with this form of Raynaud’s, the condition typically develops around age 40. When to seek immediate medical attention Although tingling lips typically result from something minor, it can be a sign of a stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). A TIA is also known as a mini-stroke. Both a stroke and a mini-stroke occur when blood flow to your brain is interrupted. Other symptoms of stroke include: blurred vision trouble sitting, standing, or walking difficulty speaking weakness in arms or legs numbness or paralysis in one side of your face pain in your face, chest, or arms confusion or difficulty understanding what other people are saying bad headaches dizziness nausea vomiting loss of smell and taste sudden onset of fatigue Even though a TIA may last just a few minutes, it’s still important to seek help. If you think you’re experiencing a stroke, you should immediately call your local emergency services. If you aren’t experiencing these severe symptoms, continue reading to learn what may be causing your lips to tingle. 1. Allergic reaction Your tingling lips may be a sign of an allergic reaction. Although minor allergic reactions are typically nothing to worry about, more severe allergies can lead to anaphylaxis. This is a potentially life-threatening reaction. Symptoms generally occur immediately after contact with the allergen. You should seek immediate medical attention if you have: trouble breathing difficulty swallowing swelling in your mouth or throat facial swelling Keep reading: How to handle anaphylaxis » Food allergies Food allergies occur within a few hours after eating the trigger food, although sometimes the reaction can occur within a few minutes. Although allergies can be caused by any food, most food allergies are from: milk peanuts tree nuts fish shellfish wheat Food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome is a delayed food allergy reaction that may occur two to six hours after drinking milk or ingesting soy, some grains, or other solid foods. Oral allergy syndrome, or pollen-food syndrome, usually causes feelings of itchiness after eating some raw fruits, raw vegetables, or tree nuts. Oral allergy syndrome can occur in people who may also have allergies to birch, ragweed, or grass pollens. Drug allergies If your immune system has become very sensitive to a substance in a particular medication, you may have developed a drug allergy. Your body sees this substance as foreign and releases chemicals in an effort to defend itself against the invader. In addition to tingling lips, you may experience: wheezing hives or skin rashes itching vomiting dizziness Chemical allergies The chemicals in makeup or cosmetics applied to the lips may also cause an allergic reaction. In addition to tingling lips, symptoms include: itching dry patches blisters 2. Food poisoning There are cases when food poisoning may cause tingling in your lips, as well as in your tongue, throat, and mouth. You’re more likely to get food poisoning from events where food is left out of refrigeration for long periods of time, like picnics and buffets. Symptoms may develop soon after you eat contaminated foods. In other cases, it may take several days or weeks for you to get sick. Other symptoms of food poisoning include: nausea vomiting diarrhea stomach pain and cramping fever Fish and shellfish are common causes of food poisoning. They may contain different bacterium and neurotoxins. For example, the most common food poisoning related to seafood is called ciguatera poisoning. It’s caused by sea bass, barracuda, red snapper, and other bottom-dwelling reef fish that include a certain poisonous food in their diets. Once ingested, this poison stays in the fish even if it’s cooked or frozen. Your sickness may last anywhere from a few hours to a couple of weeks. Contact your doctor if you’re unable to keep down liquids or you experience diarrhea for more than three days.

Mold Testing & Mold Toxins by Dr. Jill Carnahan

54:41
To listen to the MP3, please visit http://www.Highintensityhealth.com 13:17 Mold Sensitivity Genes: LabCorp and Quest are Dr. Carnahan’s favored labs for HLA-DR Typing. The results need to be interpreted. Dr. Carnahan is able to do this with a Rosetta stone from Subject expert, Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker. There are two “dreaded” genotypes for mold sensitivity, 11-3-53 and 4-3-52. It's is estimated that 1% of the population has one of these two genes. Celiac HLAs are related to mold HLAs. It is the misprocessing of antigens. 14:49 HLAs, Pac Man of the Immune System: Dr. Carnahan orders Celiac HLA and HLA-DR typing for Celiac, and HLA-DR for mold, Lyme and other biotoxins. Celiac HLA typing, checks DQ2 and DQ8. People with two SNPs for DQ2, two SNPs of DQ8 or one DQ2 and one DQ8, have a high probability of problems with gluten processing. They may never get Celiac disease, but gluten can create inflammation and trigger autoimmunity. Autoimmunity and mold go hand-in-hand because of the inflammatory cascade. 19:50 The Possible Benefit of This Over-Reactive Immune System: Sometimes Dr. Carnahan has patients who say that they have not had a cold or flu for years. They may have some sort of virus, but their immune system is so dysfunctional that they are not symptomatic. Sometimes it is not the threat causing our illness, but our immune system’s response to the threat. People, who don’t have this cytokine reaction, are more prone to have these HLA types. Their immune system is so dysfunctional that it isn’t rallying a proper response. 21:31 Symptoms of Mold Exposure: Symptoms include fatigue, brain fog where you cannot concentrate, focus or complete a task easily, and memory issues in the form of finding words. NeuroQuant, SPECT MRI, or a functional MRI, all show changes in the brain from the mold. Instead of seasonal allergy responses, people with mold sensitivity have super-reactive mast cells and are in a constant histamine response with allergy symptoms. Your skin is a detox organ, so you might have new onset acne, sores, lesions, and/or scalp issues. Joint pain is common because it is an inflammatory response. Tingling, shortness of breath, sinus congestion, and blurry vision is also common. 24:12 Symptom – Prone to Static Shock: Mold affects the pituitary access to the extreme. One of the hormones in the posterior pituitary is antidiuretic hormone, which controls our saltwater balance, so another symptom is constant thirst that is unquenchable, dry skin, dry eyes,. The antidiuretic hormone is affected when MSH, another hormone that regulates the hypothalamic access. In mold illness, this almost always drops. That regulates cortisol, adrenals, thyroid, and antidiuretic hormone. Because antidiuretic hormone is low, you are drinking lots of water and have more salt on the surface of your skin. This makes you prone to static charge. 28:47 School Buildings Commonly Have Mold: Courthouses, schools and older buildings often have mold. 30:46 Biomarkers of Mold: The CRP or ESR inflammatory markers will be normal for those of us with mold reaction. CMP, basic metabolic kidney/liver, will be normal. CBC, most of the time will be normal. Routine labs will be normal. Because labs come back normal, many are deemed to have a psychiatric illness, especially when they experience another symptom of mold exposure, rage, anger and sudden deep dark depression when exposed to mold. Dr. Carnahan does HLA typing along with testing of leptin and adiponectin which will show early signs of insulin dysregulation. Mold reaction brings on insulin resistance. Dysregulation of cortisol blocks insulin from entering your cells. Your pancreas can be affected from the toxins, causing elevated lipase or amylase. You can have poor production of pancreatic enzymes and poor production of insulin. You can even become diabetic even when they have no family history. 32:51 Symptom - Sudden Weight Gain: People can put on 50 pounds from mold exposure even with decreased caloric intake and increased exercise. Because of the insulin resistance from the imbalance of leptin and adiponectin, these people cannot burn fat. They are metabolically so dysfunctional that typical dietary interventions do not work. 33:28 Mold and Blood Profusion: Mold exposure sensitivity decreases blood flow to your tissues. VEGF shows capillary tissue profusion. Early in the illness, this increases, causing new blood vessel growth. Dr. Carnahan, a runner, would have decreased profusion in her legs, causing lactic acid to build and sometimes her lower legs would go numb. 34:25 Mold Exposure Sensitivity and Autoimmunity: VEGF causes TGF Beta to rise. TGF Beta is a master puppeteer in the immune system that regulates autoimmunity, impactingTreg cells, and t17 cells. High TGF Beta suppresses Treg cells, decreases core antigen presentation, and affects MSH which effects cortisol, leptin, ADH and much more.

Anaphylactic Shock: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment

07:01
Like, Comment, Subscribe and invite all your friends to see our videos. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfR3Y90G-fFDYI6i7E7xPBQ What is anaphylactic shock? When exposed to something they’re allergic to, some people experience a potentially life-threatening reaction called anaphylaxis. As a result, their immune system releases chemicals that flood the body. This can lead to anaphylactic shock. When your body goes into anaphylactic shock, your blood pressure suddenly drops and your airways narrow, possibly blocking normal breathing. This condition is dangerous. If it isn’t treated immediately, it can result in serious complications and even be fatal. What are the symptoms of anaphylactic shock? You will experience symptoms of anaphylaxis before anaphylactic shock sets in. These symptoms shouldn’t be ignored. They include: skin reactions such as hives, flushed skin, or pale skin suddenly feeling too warm feeling like you have a lump in your throat or difficulty swallowing nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea abdominal pain a weak and rapid pulse runny nose and sneezing swollen tongue or lips wheezing or difficulty breathing a sense that something is wrong with your body tingling hands, feet, mouth, or scalp If you think you’re experiencing anaphylaxis, seek medical attention immediately. You should also be aware of the symptoms of anaphylactic shock. These symptoms include: struggling to breathe dizziness confusion sudden feeling of weakness loss of consciousness What are the causes and risk factors of anaphylaxis? Anaphylaxis is caused by an overreaction of your immune system to an allergen, or something your body is allergic to. In turn, anaphylaxis can result in anaphylactic shock. Common triggers for anaphylaxis include: certain medications such as penicillin insect stings foods such as tree nuts, shellfish, milk, and eggs agents used in immunotherapy latex In rare cases, exercise and aerobic activity such as running can trigger anaphylaxis. Sometimes a cause for this reaction is never identified. This type of anaphylaxis is called idiopathic. If you aren’t sure what’s triggering your allergy attacks, your doctor may order an allergy test to look for what’s causing them. Risk factors for severe anaphylaxis and anaphylactic shock include: a previous anaphylactic reaction allergies or asthma a family history of anaphylaxis How is anaphylactic shock treated? The first step for treating anaphylactic shock will likely be injecting epinephrine (adrenaline) immediately. This can reduce the severity of the allergic reaction. At the hospital, you may receive cortisone and antihistamines intravenously. These help reduce inflammation in the air passages, improving the ability to breathe. Your doctor may give you beta-agonists such as albuterol to make breathing easier. You may also receive supplemental oxygen to help your body get the oxygen it needs. Any complications you’ve developed as a result of anaphylactic shock will also be treated. {The information provided on this channel and its videos is for general purposes only and should not be considered as professional advice. What Causes Tongue Swelling?

07:49
What Causes Tongue Swelling? Your tongue is a vital and versatile muscle that aids in the digestion of food and helps you speak properly. You may not often think about the health of your tongue, but there are a number of conditions can affect this muscle. Tongue inflammation is one such condition. Tongue inflammation occurs when the tongue becomes swollen and possibly discolored. This can make the tongue appear as if it’s smooth. Other names for tongue inflammation include tongue infection, smooth tongue, glossodynia, glossitis, and burning tongue syndrome. What causes tongue inflammation? Tongue inflammation rarely occurs by itself. It often occurs within the context of other health problems. Allergic reactions Tongue inflammation may occur if you have an allergic reaction to toothpaste, mouthwash, dentures, denture creams, or retainers. Allergic reactions to certain medications may also cause this condition. Sjögren’s syndrome This condition results in the destruction of the saliva glands. When this occurs, you may develop dry mouth, which in turn can lead to tongue inflammation. Injury Burns or trauma inside the mouth may cause tongue inflammation. Vitamin deficiency Pathologically low levels of vitamin B-12 or iron may cause tongue inflammation. Skin conditions Certain skin conditions may cause tongue inflammation. Oral lichen planus is an inflammatory disease causing sores, swelling, and redness. Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection that can present as a body rash. Pemphigus is an autoimmune disease that causes skin blistering. Yeast infections Yeast infections in the mouth, also known as thrush, can cause tongue inflammation. Ingesting irritants Alcohol, spicy foods, or tobacco may irritate the mouth and cause tongue inflammation. What are the symptoms of tongue inflammation? Symptoms of tongue inflammation depend on the severity of your condition and the health condition causing it. You may experience problems with chewing, swallowing, or speaking. You may have a sore, tender, or swollen tongue. Your tongue may change color and appear pale or red. A very serious symptom of tongue inflammation is when you experience severe swelling. This can block your airway. Call 911 immediately if you or someone else is experiencing severe swelling. Some people with this condition won’t feel pain. Their only symptom may be a swollen tongue. How is tongue inflammation diagnosed? Your doctor will examine your tongue to diagnose tongue inflammation. Examination may show that papillae are missing. Papillae are small, fingerlike projections typically found on the tongue. Your doctor may also note swelling of the tongue. Your doctor may ask you about your health history and recent trauma to the mouth or tongue in an effort to determine the underlying cause. They may ask about new toothpastes, new foods, or other triggers that might have caused a sudden onset of inflammation. If there’s no obvious cause for your symptoms, your doctor may perform other tests to determine the cause of your tongue inflammation. Blood tests are commonly used to see if you have a vitamin deficiency or anemia (low iron levels). They can also identify diseases like syphilis. In rare cases where your doctor suspects oral lichen planus, your doctor may take a biopsy, or tissue sample, for laboratory testing. What are the treatment options for tongue inflammation? Treatment of tongue inflammation focuses on two goals. First, it should reduce the inflammation and pain. Second, treatment of tongue inflammation should target the underlying health condition causing this problem. Your doctor may prescribe an anti-inflammatory drug or suggest an over-the-counter remedy like ibuprofen. These medications can help minimize inflammation and reduce pain while your doctor treats the underlying condition. To treat the condition causing tongue inflammation, your doctor may prescribe medications such as antibiotics, antifungals, or antimicrobials. They may also recommend dietary or lifestyle changes such as stopping smoking and avoiding alcohol. Your doctor may also recommend you take supplements such as iron or vitamin B-12. Good oral hygiene may also help reduce symptoms of tongue inflammation. Be sure to brush and floss your teeth every day. Have your teeth examined and cleaned by a dental professional on a regular basis. When should I seek medical care? You may or may not need to call your doctor if you have symptoms of tongue inflammation. Swelling and inflammation of the tongue typically resolve after several days. If symptoms are still present after 10 days, contact your doctor. You should also contact your doctor if you have trouble swallowing, breathing, or speaking.

A common reason for this type of blockage is a clot in the blood. A blood clot may be large or small in size, and there may be multiple clots. PE belongs to a group of problems that are together known as venous thromboembolism (VTE). Venous signifies relation to veins, thrombosis means blockage of a blood vessel through a blood clot or thrombus and embolism takes place when a thrombus is detached from the site of its formation and travels with the blood flow to get struck in a narrow blood vessel at any place in the body. The thrombus is then known as an embolus. Causes of Pulmonary Embolism In majority of the cases, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is the most common cause of embolism. In DVT, a blood clot or thrombus that has originated in a deep vein and travels in the blood circulation to get stuck in one of the blood vessels of the lung. The detached thrombus is known as an embolus and can lead to embolism. Most of the DVTs originate from veins in the legs or the pelvis. In rare cases, a PE may originate from a blood clot in the arm veins or from a thrombus originating in the heart. Signs and Symptoms of Pulmonary Embolism The symptoms are usually sudden in onset and may depend on the size of the clot. The present health status of an individual that is affected may also play some role in addition to how well the individual’s lungs can manage the clot. Small Pulmonary Embolism may result in: a) No symptoms at all which is common b) Breathlessness that may vary from very mild to a high level c) Chest pain which may be pleuritic and may result from the irritation caused by blood clot on the pleura around the lungs d) Hemoptysis or coughing up blood e) Mild fever f) Tachycardia A massive or multiple PE may result in: a) Severe breathlessness b) Chest pain that may be felt in the center of the chest behind the breastbone c) Collapse or feeling unwell or fainting as a large clot may have interface with the heart and the blood circulation that may lead to a great reduction in the blood pressure. d) Cardiac arrest in extreme cases where the heart may stop pumping blood due to the clot. e) Indications of a DVT such as pain at back of leg calf, tenderness in calf muscles or swelling of leg or foot may be present. Calf may turn warm and red. Diagnostic Tests for Pulmonary Embolism Multiple tests may be conducted in order to confirm the diagnosis that may include: a) A Blood test for D-dimer This detects the fragments of breakdown products of a blood clot. The higher the fragment level, the more chances of blood clot in the vein. But, this test may be positive in many other cases such as a recent surgery or pregnancy and therefore this test does not necessarily diagnose a DVT or PE, but may indicate the likely probability of having a blood clot. It can help in deciding if future tests are needed. b) CT Pulmonary Angiography and Ventilation/perfusion scan (V/Q or lung scintigraphy) These are specialized scans that monitor the circulation in the lung and are useful as they can accurately indicate whether PE is present or not. V/Q is used in some cases where a CTPA may not be available or it is recommended to clients allergic to dyes or have CKD. c) Ultrasound (Duplex Doppler) This test indicates the blood flow in the leg veins and any blockage to the blood flow. In case a DVT is found, then a PE may be assumed as the cause of the symptoms.

The common tender points locations include back of the head, between the shoulder blades, top of the shoulders, front sides of the neck, upper chest, outer elbows, upper hips, sides of the hips, as well as the inner part of the knees. - Fibromyalgia often comes with many coexisting conditions, including depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, lupus, restless leg syndrome, post traumatic disorders, as well as osteoarthritis. The causes of fibromyalgia is not known, but most likely it involves a variety of factors, with common factors including physical, emotional trauma, which has to do with adrenal function, if the adrenal glands are not able to handle the stress, as it is the stress control center of the body. - Infection can also be a common trigger of fibromyalgia and this can include a sudden onset of acute illnesses or even slow viral infections. Certain people have common hereditary factors so genetic may also play a role. Risk factors for fibromyalgia include age, irregular sleep pattern, hereditary or family history of fibromyalgia. - According to the American College of Rheumatology, there are two criteria necessary for the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. Number one, you have a widespread pain lasting for at least three months. Number two, is you have at least 11 positive tender points out of a possible 18. Commonly, blood tests are ordered, including complete blood count, as well as erythrocyte sedimentation rate, as well as thyroid functional tests. As far as treatment from a conventional perspective, there is nothing that specifically can get rid of fibromyalgia because we really don’t know the cause yet, but commonly the symptoms, the suppression drugs include analgesics, such as aspirin, Tylenol, and things like that to help relieve pain. Antidepressants are oftentimes prescribed because the doctor may feel that the person also has the depressive tendency. In some cases, anti-seizure drugs may also be employed. Emotional counseling can be added, as well as some physical therapy, on a very gentle basis, from time to time. As you can see so far, fibromyalgia is really a basket diagnosis of a muscle pain of unknown origin that conventional doctors really don’t have a very good sense of what is really going on. So all that can be done is to suppress the symptoms and hopefully the symptoms will resolve. - From an alternative medicine point of view, there are actually many, many reasons why a body would go into such a state of fibromyalgia. Make note that fibromyalgia just means that there’s pain in the muscles and the muscle fibers. So the question is, well, why would the muscle fibers have pain when they didn’t have before? One of the key things that we know is that cortisol is a hormone that’s responsible for suppressing the inflammation of the body. If there’s any inflammation anywhere, there’s the cortisol shot to suppress it and make the pain go away. If this cortisol function is not at optimum level, then the body will have a tendency to have states of inflammation due to a variety of reasons, from infections to stress, either physically or emotionally, to foot allergies or foot sensitivity, to chemical allergies or chemical sensitivities, to a wide variety of other reasons. So one thing we have to look at from an alternative world, is how is the body’s cortisol function relates to the fibromyalgia?

Clinical Case: Swollen Forehead

05:44
A 53-year-old man with hypertension and hyperlipidemia presented with pain and swelling to the middle of his forehead that he had had for three days. The pain and swelling had grown progressively worse and were not manageable with over-the-counter ibuprofen or acetaminophen. He said he typically does not experience headaches and stated this has never happened to him before. He recalled that he did head-butt his 175-pound St. Bernard dog one day prior to the onset of the symptoms. He decided to come to the ED because his symptoms were worsening and were quite unattractive. The patient also reported thick, yellow rhinorrhea, but denied fever, chills, photophobia, neck pain, lightheadedness, and confusion. He was a former tobacco smoker, a social drinker, and never used illicit drugs. He denied using intranasal drugs other than an occasional over-the-counter nasal spray. The patient's vital signs were all within normal limits. His temperature was 36.4°C with a normal oxygen saturation of 99% on room air. He appeared well but had an impressive 2 cm x 3 cm x 3 cm fluctuant area to the midline of the forehead that was warm and erythematous. The area was fluctuant and tender without a puncture or drainage. The remainder of the physical examination was unremarkable. Laboratory values for this patient were a leukocyte count of 8.95 k/ul, hemoglobin of 13.5 g/dl, platelets of 397 k/ul, glucose of 97 mg/dl, and creatinine of 1.10 mg/dl. He also had elevated C-reactive protein of 2.3 mg/dl and an elevated sedimentation rate of 60 mm/hr. He was treated initially with IV fluids and 1 mg hydromorphone prior to CT imaging. The patient stated that his pain improved, and he returned from the CT without issues. The CT revealed a 1.7 cm x 3.4 cm x 3.3 cm low attenuation, peripherally enhancing subcutaneous abscess along the mid-anterior frontal bone with associated erosion of the anterior and posterior walls of the frontal sinus with opacification. There was dehiscence of the inner table, but no clear evidence of intracranial extension. Pansinusitis was also noted. The patient appeared well throughout the ED visit, and no clinical sign of intracranial involvement was seen although the CT showed dehiscence of the inner table. IV meropenem was given and otolaryngology (ENT) consultation obtained. Sir Percivall Pott (pictured on previous page), an English surgeon, first described this diagnosis in 1760. Today we know Pott's puffy tumor as a serious complication of bacterial frontal sinusitis, which consists of osteomyelitis and subperiosteal abscess of the frontal bone. Conditions that lead to the development of Pott's puffy tumor include trauma or fracture, longstanding acute frontal sinusitis, or chronic sinusitis that may be due to allergic polyposis or rhinitis, deviated septum, or even myxoma of the supra-orbital ridge. (Laryngoscope 1967;77[8]1234.) Complications of Pott's puffy tumor include epidural abscess, subdural empyema, brain abscess, cortical vein thrombosis, meningitis, sagittal sinus thrombosis, cerebral edema, and death. (Pediatr Neurosurg 2001;35[2]:82; Arch Dermatol 1985;121[4]:548.) The most commonly identified organisms include Staphylococcus aureus, microaerophilic streptococci including alpha-hemolytic streptococcus and peptostreptococcus, and anaerobes such as Fusobacterium and mixed infections. (Pediatr Neurosurg 2001;35[2]:82; Arch Dermatol 1985;121[4]:548.) Initial antibiotic coverage should be broad-spectrum and include coverage of anaerobes. A bedside nasopharyngoscopy by ENT revealed frank purulence from both osteomeatal complexes but otherwise normal. A bedside percutaneous drainage of the abscess was performed using topical Betadine, a 10cc syringe, and an 18-gauge needle. Four cc of frank pus was aspirated, and routine cultures and gram stain were sent. The patient was admitted to the neurosurgery service, and an MRI showed no evidence of intracranial infection. It was felt that the cortical bone was still intact in the posterior table of the frontal sinus. He underwent incision and drainage of the frontal sinus abscess, frontal sinus trephination, and frontal sinusotomy as an inpatient. Intravenous antibiotics were continued, and he was discharged home after drains were removed to continue IV ampicillin plus sulbactam. The initial cultures and those obtained in the operating room isolated Streptococcus anginosus, which was pansensitive, Eikenella corrodens, and mixed anaerobic flora. Fungal cultures were negative. The patient was also treated with fluticasone nasal spray and oral methylprednisolone. By happenstance, he was seen in the ED 14 months later for an unrelated arm injury and at that time appeared to have an excellent cosmetic outcome. The dog reportedly suffered no complication from the initial incident and is doing well. PICMONIC: http://bit.ly/2jrik7M Discount CODE: drertv2017
