In case all your attempts to get the perfect body fail, it’s not a reason to give up completely on your weight-loss goals. Check if you’re guilty of the following habits that will sabotage any diet and exercise plan. Diets are just temporary measures you take to lose some extra weight, so you shouldn’t rely fully on them. Give yourself some time to get used to one new healthy habit at a time, and then keep going. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, a good night’s rest helps you cut down on fats, carbs, and sugars. Lack of sleep, on the contrary, makes you eat way more than usual. Experts recommend taking small bites, chewing your food thoroughly, and practicing mindful eating. It means fully concentrating on your food, savoring its smell, taste, and even texture. Desserts won’t hurt your weight loss plan at all, so anyone with a sweet tooth can now rejoice! Of course, moderation is key here, but if you stick to a “nothing-allowed” diet, you’re actually more prone to overeating. A food diary will be your greatest ally on the road to weight loss. If all that writing sounds too tedious for you, you can simply take pictures to see exactly what you’ve been putting in your body. Add those calories to your food diary and don’t forget to count them in your daily allotted intake. -If you punish yourself every time you eat something “wrong”, you risk falling into a habit of eating in response to your failure and gaining all the weight back. -Being hungry stimulates cell renewal, improves digestion, and even regulates your blood sugar. Plus, when you’re hungry, your body produces ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates your memory and helps fight depression. -An orange will, in fact, satisfy your hunger longer than a glass of juice will. As for healthy smoothies, one glass actually contains anywhere from 150 to 300 calories. -If you want to shed excess weight, you’d better take an 8-hour journey to dreamland each night. -If you eat faster than you should, you take in more calories than you need before you realize it’s time to stop. -Have a meal or a healthy snack before going to the grocery store and don’t forget your shopping list. Otherwise, you’ll end up buying more high-calorie foods than low-calorie ones. -You can allot only 20% of your daily calorie intake to satisfying your sweet tooth and still lose weight. -Stick to unsaturated fats, such as olive oil, nuts, seeds, fish and avocados, instead of avoiding fats altogether. -Physical activity burns only 10 to 30% of your energy. The rest depends on your diet, so that should be the main focus of your weight loss plan. -Writing down everything that goes in your body keeps you aware of your portion sizes, food preferences, and meal and snack timing. -Being too strict with yourself only encourages emotional eating, which leads to a vicious cycle. It’s totally fine if you’re not 100% perfect in following your diet plan. Your diet is always the most important part of weight loss, so learning how to accurately track your food intake is SO important to see continued success as you lose weight. It may not be the prettiest, but it has the best food database available compared to the other apps I've tried. 2. Use A Food Scale. This is SO IMPORTANT, volume measurements will lead to big discrepancies and inaccuracies over time, the nutrition labels go by the weight of the food and not the volume, so this is best to ensure that you're eating the amount you expected. 3. Be Honest and Accurate. You're only fooling yourself when you aren't being truthful with what you're really eating. Those extra servings of this or that can really add up over time and are often the culprit for weight loss plateaus. Stay honest with yourself and be as accurate as possible! How to Lose Weight WITHOUT Counting Calories | 7 Science Based Steps

Next week we will talk about how to count calories properly for weight loss, for those that wish to. Let’s look at the advantages of NOT counting calories: #1. People are bad at it So bad that studies show subjects underestimating the amount of calories they eat by up to 47%. In another study of women reporting they couldn’t lose weight on a 1200 calorie diet, experts found they were actually eating up to 2500 calories a day in many cases. #2. Counting calories tends to put dieters in the wrong mindset When focus is on counting calories, people begin to ignore the quality of food being eaten.   Yes, you probably can lose weight eating small ramen noodles and twinkies… But do those foods give you good energy?   Or help your skin quality? Or make you feel good. Probably not. By not counting calories, you’re pretty much forced to focus on food quality for weight loss, which is a good thing. #3. It’s much simpler By not obsessing over every macronutrient and calorie you’re consuming life becomes significantly simpler. While counting makes sense for bodybuilders trying to reach -3% body fat or those who have hit a weight loss plateau, it usually becomes a burden for normal people who just want to be generally healthy. Here are 7 Steps for How to Lose Weight WITHOUT Counting Calories Step #1. Pair high protein meals with low carb vegetables Protein and vegetables are the two most satiating nutrients on the planet and have been shown to keep you from having cravings. The fiber from low carbohydrate vegetables combined with high protein foods creates one of the most satisfying meals you can eat. Step #2. Avoid unsatiating foods like the plague On the opposite end processed foods, flour, and sugar have all been shown to be unsatisfying leading to more cravings and thus calories consumption. It’s will be VERY difficult to lose weight if you eat these foods and are not counting calories. Step #3. Drink water like a camel Everyone knows water is important, but drinking more can also help you lose weight.  It has been shown to increase metabolism by 3-11% and eliminate pesky hunger cravings. Step #4. Use Decaf Coffee or Peppermint Tea to Blunt Cravings In order of craving killers, decaf coffee, then peppermint tea, and then regular coffee have all been shown to help blunt hunger cravings. So when you start craving sweets or food you shouldn’t eat, drink one of these. Step #5. Use the craving question Lot’s of people say things like “I’m hungry” and go eat without actually listening to their body to see if that is true or not. When hunger hits ask yourself this question, “Am I hungry enough to eat a salad?” Often times, the answer is no and you’re not actually hungry, you just have a craving. The brain is just trying to get a little hit of dopamine because it’s bored and you need to train yourself to distinguish between real hunger and cravings. Listening to the body is uber important for those not counting calories. Step #6. Sleep like a bear in hibernation Loss of sleep has been directly linked to higher resting cortisol levels and stronger cravings. So get lots and lots of sleep (which you should be doing anyway). Step #7. Mediate Early research has shown that mediation can help with both binge eating and emotional eating. It’s been shown to help dieters naturally eat less by instilling a sense of mindful eating. This is where you’re slowing down to actually enjoy the foods you eat instead of pounding down meals like a humpback whale at a sardine factory. When I first heard about water fasting, I thought, “No way am I doing this!” But after doing some research and finding out about the benefits of this process, I changed my mind. And now I'm going to tell you what I experienced during my 20-day water fast. The first 2 days were going to be the most difficult. And they were indeed! I felt incredibly hungry — almost as if I had missed several breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. My energy level dropped, and my mood left much to be desired. I was increasingly irritated, and my patience was wearing thin. We have access to an infinite amount of different workout approaches including in home workouts like P90X and close to 40,000 gyms spread across the Us. And we have a country in which almost 3 out of every 4 American men and 65% of women are overweight. How in the world did that happen? Well today I'm gonna reveal the five biggest weight loss mistakes you're probably making that are blocking you from burning fat, losing weight, and staying lean. Mistake #1 is the biggest mistake that I see people make and that's giving into food addiction and binging when trying to stick to a diet. We have flavor enhancers high fructose corn syrup MSG sugar and a bunch of additives that are added into the food we eat. We develop cravings for this food especially junk food and processed food. When we eat food like this our brain gets stimulated because dopamine gets released. And then when you get hungry your brain tricks you into believing that the only thing that will fix that physical feeling of hunger is eating something that the mind is craving. A simple fix for this problem is to fix the physical feeling of hunger and then check if you're mind is still craving that junk food. So when you really feel like you want ice cream promise yourself that you can eat as much ice cream as you want but first eat a healthy meal high in protein and vegetables and then move onto the ice cream. Nine out of ten times you won't even want the ice cream anymore and that one out of 10 times that you do, you're gonna eat way less because you're already gonna be full from eating a healthy meal. Mistake #2 is having absolutely no idea how many calories and macros you're eating everyday which leads you to underestimating Your total daily intake. The problem with this is that you might think you're having a thousand calories but if we were to really count your calories and include that 600 calorie glass of wine at night or that beer and the couple hundred calories from the handfuls of nuts and the little snacks here and there.... when we include these things we find you're really having 2000 calories. Most people think they would never underestimate by that much, but believe me after coaching thousands of people, I know you can easily be under estimating your totals by a thousand calories if you're not tracking. what we don't measure doesn't get managed. Now I'm not saying that you have to whip out the food scale and count every last gram that goes into your mouth. There are ways of using your hands to measure your food. You can do something simple like a palm protein a cupped hand of carbs a thumb of fat and a fist of veggies. But even if you do decide to learn more about nutrition and you start tracking your macros it's nice to know that you're not gonna have to track your calories and Macros forever. With enough time you'll learn exactly what kind of a caloric impact your food choices are having. And with that knowledge you'll be able to develop more intuition for how much calories and macros you have for the day. To develop that intuition I recommend tracking your Macros and calories for at least four to six weeks. This way you have time to have plenty of variety in your diet and with that variety over time you'll be seeing a lot of different nutrition labels. To get started you'll have to find out what your individual macro breakdown is for each day. I'll include a link below for a macro calculator that I built out myself to ensure its accuracy because a lot of the calculators out there overestimate activity levels............. Let's move on... mistake number three...not being consistent. Consistency guys consistency is key. Its so easy to deceive yourself into believing that a program or diet plan doesn't work for you. When really the only reason it hasnt been working is because you haven't been consistent. If you workout for 3 days one week then 2 days the next week then you take a week off because you were busy or didn't feel up to it, you're not going to lose weight or maintain whatever weight you lost.
