The cause of thyroid cancer is unknown, but certain risk factors have been identified and include a family history of goiter, exposure to high levels of radiation, and certain hereditary syndromes. The National Cancer Institute recommends that anyone who received radiation to the head or neck in childhood be examined by a doctor every one to two years to detect potential thyroid cancer. The most common signs and symptoms of thyroid cancer include a lump, or thyroid nodule, that can be felt in the neck, trouble swallowing, throat or neck pain, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, cough, and vocal changes. Johnny's Battle with Stage 4 Thyroid Cancer - Diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer - Cancer Survivor Story

04:38
Watch the story of how this thyroid cancer survivor took control of his most prominent fear by sticking to a few trusted methods. Follow this link to see what Dr. David Brownstein has to say about the increasing rates of thyroid cancer: http://bit.ly/ttac-survivor-iodine-article-yt. Johnny worked at a hospital for years so, naturally, it was the first place he went to look for help after finding a lump on his throat. He knew this was a warning side of thyroid cancer. Panicked and scared, Johnny asked the doctors working in his facility to examine him, and that is when they diagnosed him with Stage 4 thyroid cancer. Not knowing what to do, and trusting that his primary physicians knew best, Johnny followed through with the chemotherapy treatment recommended. The particular side effects from his chemotherapy treatment were beyond torturous for Johnny to endure. Johnny knew that this was not the answer for him. He quickly decided to seek other options, but was not sure where to look after the doctors could not suggest any other alternatives. Johnny was always skeptical, and never thought to explore the possibility of natural remedies for cancer. Find out how reading a biblical verse led Johnny to a form of natural treatment that resulted in an improvement of his diagnosis. Since his cancer was downgraded and because of his treatment, Johnny now shares a new perspective on life. This video is an informative animated presentation that explains in detail about Thyroid cancer and treatment . Thyroid cancer is a disease that begins in your thyroid gland. If you have thyroid cancer, it may be one of four types, depending on the type of thyroid cell in which the cancer started and the appearance of the cancer cells. Papillary carcinoma is the most common thyroid cancer and begins in follicular cells. Follicular carcinoma accounts for 1 in 10 cases and also begins in follicular cells. Medullary carcinoma is less common and starts para-follicular cells. Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma is a rare, more dangerous form of thyroid cancer. Thyroid cancer, like other cancers is an unrestrained growth of cells due to damaged genetic material in the cell’s nucleus. A tumour forms as the cells begin to accumulate. Overtime, a lump form in your thyroid as the tumour enlarges you may feel a lump in your neck over the thyroid gland. You may have neck or throat pain, coarseness and trouble swallowing as the tumour grows around the trachea. Watch the video to know more about types and treatment of thyroid cancer. Radioactive Iodine After Thyroid Cancer

05:37
Radioactive iodine is a common treatment for thyroid cancer after the thyroid cancer surgery. We take advantage of the fact that the thyroid gland needs iodine to make thyroid hormone. In this video, Dr. Clayman discusses when to consider radioactive iodine in the treatment of thyroid cancer. Most of the common thyroid cancers will take up iodine just like normal thyroid cells. When you take a radioactive iodine pill, the radioactive iodine can go directly to thyroid tissue and thyroid cancer cells. The purpose of radioactive iodine is to kill any thyroid tissue and most importantly to kill any thyroid cancer cells that may still be in your neck. Radioactive iodine is not necessary for all thyroid cancers. Radioactive iodine is typically used for thyroid cancer that has grown outside of the thyroid gland, for example into the muscle on top of the thyroid gland. This observation, however, relies upon the expertise of the surgeon. Radioactive iodine is also indicated when the thyroid cancer has spread to lymph nodes or to distant sites. Your thyroid surgeon’s experience and observations will play a critical role in determining whether you should have radioactive iodine therapy. Your endocrinologist will manage the administration of the radioactive iodine. It will not make you sick, and will not make your hair fall out.

Advantages of Partial Thyroid Removal for Thyroid Cancer Video

07:06
Thyroid cancer surgery doesn’t always need to include removal of the entire thyroid gland. Thyroid cancer can be cured in many people by removing only half of the thyroid gland, (called partial thyroidectomy or thyroid lobectomy). Removing only half of the thyroid for thyroid cancer has several advantages: 1) it is easier to maintain thyroid hormone levels, 2) many people have a better sense of wellbeing when some of the normal thyroid gland remains, 3) a decreased risk to the nerves to the voice box and the parathyroid glands during thyroid surgery. In a skilled thyroid cancer surgeon’s care, the complications are very low, however all thyroid surgery is dangerous within inexperienced thyroid surgeons. Choosing the right surgery, for the right cancer, for the right patient is the most important decision to arrive upon. Watch Dr. Clayman discuss the advantages of removing only part of the thyroid gland in surgery for thyroid cancer. Thyroid cancer surgery has several options provided you have an expert surgeon who knows what is best for you. Partial removal of your thyroid gland may be the right surgery for you and still provide extremely high cure rates for your thyroid cancer. Many people do not need all of their thyroid removed in order to cure the thyroid cancer. This video shows several advantages to leaving some normal thyroid in your neck when operating to cure a thyroid cancer. Leaving normal thyroid tissue inside of you can make it much easier for your endocrinologist to control your thyroid hormone levels and allow you to feel the same way following your cancer surgery as you did before your thyroid operation. Dr Gary Clayman is one of the worlds most experienced thyroid cancer surgeons.
The risks of radioactive iodine treatment in thyroid cancer

03:10
Well-differentiated thyroid cancer is one of the most common endocrine cancers, and is often treated using radioactive iodine. However, the risk of subsequent cancer development from radioactive iodine treatment has not been previously determined. Remco Molenaar, MD, PhD, from the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Netherlands, discusses the use of this radioisotope, and explains the results of a recent study which suggested that this treatment could increase the risk of patients developing acute myeloid leukemia. This interview was recorded at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2017 conference in Madrid, Spain.

Bible, M.D., Ph.D., of Mayo Clinic discusses advanced metastatic thyroid cancers of all types and factors determining when a patient should seek care from a medical oncologist, and what kinds of treatments to expect. Dr. Bible also notes that most thyroid cancer patients never need to see a medical oncologist. He discusses situations with anaplastic, medullary, and differentiated (papillary and follicular) thyroid cancer and the role of different specialists in each situation. Dr. Bible is Chair of the Endocrine Malignancies Disease-Oriented Group at Mayo Clinic Cancer Center, Rochester, Minnesota, and a ThyCa Medical Advisor.
Radioactive Iodine Therapy | Thyroid Cancer Update

23:23
This treatment is called RAI, Radioactive Iodine or I-131 and is used in my case to kill off any healthy or malicious thyroid cells left over from my thyroidectomy surgery. Which I had because my nodule decided to go and grow a mass of papillary cancer. I have created a playlist of my cancer update vlogs in an effort to increase awareness and support of this condition. I am not a doctor or any sort of cool medical professional. I simply was inspired to share my journey with the world so that anyone else out there who may be going through a similar situation can know they are not alone. But let me tell you, what a year it has been. Between the surgery, recovery and now the radio active iodine therapy, plus another surgery coming up - see my other update videos about that - I am sooo ready to leave all of this cancer mumbo jumbo behind. If you are going through this treatment know that I am sending you virtual hugs !!! Expect yourself to feel tired and sore the first few days and I think I forgot to mention it but the dry mouth condition is real and you should have sour candies handy to help you through that discomfort. Otherwise, it really isn't THAT terrible of a treatment. The isolation / quarantine period is both relaxing and stressful especially for people like me who like to keep busy. If I forgot anything please feel free to comment down below and I will try to answer as soon as possible. _____________________ Be sure to stay connected with Sparkle Me Pink by SUBSCRIBING and Following me on : BLOG: http://www.sparklemepink.com FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/SparkleMePink8 TWITTER: https://twitter.com/SparkleMePink8 PINTEREST: http://pinterest.com/SparkleMePink8 INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/SparkleMePink8 SNAPCHAT: @sparklemepink8 EMAIL: sparklemepink88@gmail.com _______________________ Disclaimer/Disclosure: All opinions are that of my own. How to Prevent Thyroid Cancer | Cure Thyroid Cancer

03:01
Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland situated in the front of the neck, which makes hormones that control metabolism, heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature.[1] Thyroid cancer begins when its cells change and grow uncontrollably, which eventually form small nodules. It's actually one of the more curable types of cancer, although it can still be deadly. Most people with thyroid cancer develop it for unknown reasons, so effective prevention is difficult to understand. However, reducing the most common risk factors can help prevent thyroid cancer in some cases. Subscribe To Our Channel Link: https://goo.gl/LxVc6u How to Prevent Thyroid Cancer | Cure Thyroid Cancer

Myths and Truths About Thyroid Cancer Video

03:35
The Light of Life Foundation, ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association, Inc., and Eisai Inc. today announced the launch of Myths and Truths About Thyroid Cancer, an interactive, educational campaign designed to help dispel the myth that thyroid cancer is a “good cancer.” Because most thyroid cancers can be successfully treated, many are told if you are going to get cancer, thyroid cancer is the one to have, which has led to this misperception. However, whether successfully treated or not, the truth is all cancers can have a significant impact on a person’s life, beginning with the shock and distress of hearing the word “cancer” at diagnosis. In honor of Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month and the tens of thousands who receive a thyroid cancer diagnosis each year, Myths and Truths About Thyroid Cancer illustrates the life-changing realities of this disease. “As a thyroid cancer survivor, I urge people to stop referring to thyroid cancer as the ‘good cancer,’ as I believe it downplays patients’ experiences,” said Joan Shey, founder of the Light of Life Foundation. “I hear time and time again from patients how difficult their diagnosis and treatment were and that their scars are more than skin deep. My hope is that this campaign can educate about the many types of thyroid cancer and change the thyroid cancer conversation.” “Being part of a community of survivors is very important for people coping with thyroid cancer,” said Gary Bloom, thyroid cancer survivor and co-founder and executive director of ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association. “ThyCa takes this to heart, which is why we are proud to provide support and resources to the thyroid cancer community. We also know more needs to be done to elevate awareness of thyroid cancer and what patients need in terms of support for the rest of our lives.” To view the multimedia release go to: http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7595951-eisai-thyroid-cancer-myths/

THYROID CANCER TREATMENT

01:38
Treatment for thyroid cancer depends on the type of thyroid cancer you have and how far it has spread. The main treatments are: 1. thyroidectomy a thyroidectomy– surgery to remove part or all of the thyroid 2. radioactive iodine treatment you swallow a radioactive substance that travels through your blood and kills the cancer cells 3. external radiotherapy external radiotherapy – a machine is used to direct beams of radiation at the cancer cells to kill them 4. chemotherapy and targeted therapies chemotherapy and targeted therapies – medications used to kill cancer cells Your treatment plan You'll be cared for throughout your treatment by a team of healthcare professionals. Your team will recommend what they feel is the best treatment for you. This will largely depend on the type of thyroid cancer you have. For example:  papillary carcinoma and follicular carcinoma can usually be treated with surgery followed by radioactive iodine treatment  medullary thyroid carcinoma is usually treated with surgery to remove the thyroid, often followed by radiotherapy  anaplastic thyroid carcinoma can't usually be treated with surgery, but radiotherapy and chemotherapy can help control the symptoms Article Credit: http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Cancer-of-the-thyroid/Pages/Treatment.aspx Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkVKbsi4wOka3tK0IWPFKRA/videos

Thyroid Cancer Types, Stages and Treatment Overview

08:41
Thyroid Cancer Types, Stages and Treatment Overview Most cancers are treated with removal of the thyroid gland (thyroidectomy), although small tumors that have not spread outside the thyroid gland may be treated by just removing the side of the thyroid containing the tumor (lobectomy). If lymph nodes are enlarged or show signs of cancer spread, they will be removed as well. In addition, recent studies have suggested that patients with micro-papillary carcinomas (very small thyroid cancers) may safely choose to be managed by close observation with ongoing ultrasounds rather than have immediate surgery.

In laboratory studies, green tea has been shown to slow or completely prevent cancer development in colon, liver, breast and prostate cells. 3. THE TOMATO EFFECT. According to recent Harvard research, there is up to 50% reduction in chances for prostate cancer in people who regularly ate cooked tomatoes. It was proven that tomatoes are incredibly effective in inhibiting the angiogenesis, and the reason why this fruit is so effective is that they contain high amounts of a substance called lycopene, which has strong anti angiogenic properties. In addition, lycopene concentration increases when it is subjected to higher temperatures. That is why cooked tomatoes are very effective when it comes to stopping cancer growth. 4. DARK CHOCOLATE. For many people this is almost unbelievable. Dark chocolate is an incredibly tasty dessert, which also happens to be incredibly healthy to eat, it is good for your heart condition, your overall happiness and also for fighting cancer cells. 5. Even with more aggressive cancer, there are a lot of reasons to be optimistic? There is much more hope now than there was ten years ago. You talked a bit about before about folks of a certain age receiving radiation therapy for tumors that turned out to be benign. For instance, in children, the thymus gland was enlarged and it turned out to be normally enlarged. Unfortunately, we thought that was bad and a certain population of people ended up with thyroid cancer, secondary to their radiation therapy. Can we talk about risk factors for thyroid cancer and if there’s anything that we can do to avoid some of these risk factors? I’m not sure about how to avoid it, but regarding radiation, there is quite a bit of radiation from the diagnostic imaging in our general population….

Living With Thyroid Cancer: When Radioactive Iodine Fails

05:01
When people stop responding to radioactive iodine, they are what is called refractory. Treatment after this point is aggressive and there is often a period of watchful waiting before the next step in treatment. These thyroid cancer patients need new treatment solutions. Right now there are two angiogenic agents called Nexavar and Lenvima. They increase the time it takes for metastatic thyroid cancer to grow. These agents and many clinical trials on the horizon, kinase inhibitors and immunotherapy. There is finally hope for these patients.
Thyroid Cancer Treatment: Thyroidectomy vs RAI vs TSH Suppression

13:07
This video is all thyroid cancer treatments including what treatments are available if you have thyroid cancer, the consequences of these therapies on your life, and we'll also discuss some important factors which help determine your prognosis. It's important to realize, though, that the majority of thyroid cancer cases are caused by the least aggressive form of thyroid cancer. This, combined with the fact that the most common therapy to treat thyroid cancer is the removal of the thyroid gland has helped increase the 5-year survival rate of thyroid cancer to around 97 to 98%. When it comes to thyroid cancer you may not have a choice as to which therapy is ideal for you, but it still helps to understand each treatment and how it impacts your body. Treatment options available for thyroid cancer include: #1. Surgery: - By surgery, I am referring to a procedure known as a complete thyroidectomy. This surgery results in the entire removal of your thyroid gland (well close to the entire amount) and it is the most common treatment for thyroid cancer. Removing your thyroid, though, can sometimes cause side effects afterward such as weight gain or fatigue if you are not dosed appropriately. #2. Radioactive iodine ablation: - Radioactive iodine is sometimes combined with a thyroidectomy to help kill off any tissue which is left over after your surgery. Radioactive iodine is a procedure which specifically targets and destroys thyroid gland tissue. It's helpful to use in conjunction with surgery because sometimes thyroid gland tissue can exist outside of the normal anatomy. Using RAI can help kill off extra tissue especially if cancer has spread. #3. Chemotherapy and radiation: - Chemotherapy isn't used very often for thyroid cancer because most cancers can be treated with surgery and with RAI. But, some cases of aggressive thyroid cancer may require the use of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. #4. TSH Suppression: - Lastly, another technique used to treat thyroid cancer is the use of TSH suppressive therapy. The goal here is to take high enough doses of thyroid hormone to suppress the natural production of TSH or thyroid stimulating hormone. This hormone is stimulating to thyroid gland tissue and can theoretically stimulate thyroid cancer cells as well. You can suppress the normal production of TSH by taking high doses of thyroid medication and this is sometimes used for patients after surgery. Each person is different so the exact treatments that you need for your cancer will depend on the type of cancer you have, how aggressive it is, the stage at which it was diagnosed, your age and other important factors. How Thyroid, Thyroid Cancer Forms, Symptoms and Their Treatments | #ThyroidFree | #PlayEvenEnglish What Is Thyroid Cancer? Your thyroid is shaped like a small butterfly, and is usually found inside the lower front of your neck. It’s a gland that controls your metabolism. It also releases hormones that direct many functions in your body, including how you use energy, how you produce heat, and how you consume oxygen. Thyroid cancer develops when cells genetically mutate or change. The abnormal cells begin multiplying in your thyroid and, once there are enough of them, they form a tumor. If it’s caught early, thyroid cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer. Types of Thyroid Cancer Researchers have identified four main types: Papillary thyroid cancer Follicular thyroid cancer Medullary cancer Anaplastic thyroid cancer What Are the Symptoms? If you have thyroid cancer, you probably didn’t notice any signs of it in the early stages. That’s because there are very few symptoms in the beginning. But as it grows, you could notice any of the following problems: • Neck, throat pain • Swollen lymph nodes or enlarged thyroid gland • Lump in your neck • Difficulty swallowing • Vocal changes, hoarseness • Cough Is It Treatable? Thyroid cancer is usually very treatable, even if you have a more advanced stage of it. That’s because there are effective treatments that give you a great chance for a full recovery. And surgery, when it’s needed, can sometimes cure it. What are the early signs and symptoms of thyroid cancer? Is Thyroid cancer is curable? Where Does thyroid cancer spread to first? Anaplastic thyroid cancer //Anaplastic carcinoma of the thyroid (ATC) //Symptoms//Treatment

02:45
• Anaplastic thyroid cancer Symptoms Anaplastic thyroid cancer is one of the fastest growing and most aggressive of all cancers. It is also known as undifferentiated thyroid cancer because the cells do not look or behave like typical thyroid cells. The cause of anaplastic thyroid cancer is unknown, however, in some cases it arises in the setting of differentiated thyroid cancers such as papillary or follicular thyroid cancers. While overall survival statistics are discouraging – with an average survival rate of 6 months and approximately 1 in 5 alive after 12 months – it is important to note that there are long-term survivors. Mortality/Morbidity Anaplastic carcinoma of the thyroid (ATC) typically has a rapidly progressive course. The overall 5-year survival rate is reportedly less than 10%, and most patients do not live longer than a few months after diagnosis. Treating Thyroid Cancer

01:41
It’s a rare cancer that’s typically found accidentally. Health experts say women are the usual target for thyroid cancer, but it can happen to anyone at any age. Studies show about 200,000 people are diagnosed with thyroid cancer every year. Dr. Jacob Goldberger, a surgeon on medical staff of Lee Memorial Health System, says thyroid cancer can start off as a scratchy voice or a lump in the neck. “Commonly, people will come in and complain of hoarseness, or complain of food getting stuck because it hasn’t taken a turn around the nodule, or they’ll complain of voice change.” If a health expert locates a lump in the thyroid during an examination, they may decide to do a biopsy to determine if it’s thyroid cancer. “These are outpatient procedures that we use a small needle to take tissue samples of,” said Dr. Goldberger. If the lump is cancerous, health experts will typically recommend surgery to remove it. “Fortunately for us, thyroid cancer is not an aggressive cancer. It’s a cancer that is managed surgically and with excellent success and survival,” said Dr. Goldberger. He says the survival rate after surgery is about 80 percent. Depending on the size of the mass, surgeons will either remove part of the thyroid or the entire thyroid. “If I remove the whole thyroid or a majority of the thyroid, you no longer have enough thyroid hormone to function normally. So these patients become sluggish, they gain weight, they lack the energy to function normally,” said Dr. Goldberger. Those patients will have to take daily medication to replace the hormone. “We don’t know what causes it. There is a form that is a little more aggressive than the other non-aggressive forms that relates to family genetics. It’s called medullary cancer. And that’s the only one that’s really been shown to be familial,” said Dr. Goldberger. While the causes aren’t clear, he says the treatment is. If the cancer is caught early patients who have surgery rarely have any reoccurring problems. Lymph Nodes in Thyroid Cancer -- Sloan-Kettering

04:47
Unlike in many other cancers, the spread of thyroid cancer to the lymph nodes has very little impact on survival in most patients, say thyroid cancer experts at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Lymph nodes that look suspicious may be removed during thyroid surgery, but in most cases, this does not affect the outcome of treatment. Thyroid cancer is three times more common in women than in men. There are four major types of thyroid cancer: papillary, follicular, medullary (MTC), and anaplastic. If a lump in the thyroid is found, the only certain way to tell whether it is cancerous is by needle or surgery biopsy and examining the thyroid tissue obtained. A CEA blood test, physical exam, X-rays, CT scans, PET scans, ultrasounds, and MRIs may also be used to help establish a definitive diagnosis and determine staging. Surgery is the most common form of treatment for thyroid cancer that has not spread to other areas of the body. Radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and radioactive iodine treatment are also medical treatment options in addition to surgery. The survival rate and prognosis of thyroid cancer depends upon a few factors, including the individual's age, the size of the tumor, and whether there is metastasis or spread of the tumor. It is not possible to prevent most cases of thyroid cancer. Thyroid cancer is the third most common solid cancer tumor in children and the most common endocrine malignancy.

It' been said that "our" standard American "diet" is a form of slow motion suicide. So true. Misinformation is driven by greed ... so, it's the blind leading the blind out there. If you are smart, you prevent most of the suffering being experienced by others. Learn from my mistakes. I've made plenty. Food is one of the most important topics for us, yet many of my videos are on the topic of barefoot and minimalist running. Interesting that these two issues are so similar ... people fall into a short sighted pleasure trap with regard to protecting their sensitive feet and satisfying their food "addictions". Greed being the root cause of the many problems caused by lack of motion, unhealthy motion and poor diet. Causes of thyroid cancer that you don't know

03:23
Causes of thyroid cancer that you were not aware of The exact cause of thyroid cancer is not known. Similar to how other cancer forms develop, changes in the DNA of cells is responsible for the development of thyroid cancer. These alterations could either be genetically inherited or occur over a period of time. But, it is well established that cancer is not contagious. 1 Thyroid cancer risk factors Exposure to radiation increases one's chances of getting thyroid cancer. A mere dental X-ray, however, does not increase the chances of developing thyroid cancer, but a radiation therapy to the head, neck or chest surely does. There has been significant amount of research to understand DNA changes that become cancerous. Most cancers are not inherited, which means that DNA gets damaged by the exposure to something in the environment such as radiation or smoke during the course of one's life. The cancer may also occur when unexpected changes take place inside a cell without a specific external cause. The following are the prominent risk factors for thyroid cancer: 2 Benign thyroid disease Thyroid conditions i.e., either underactive or overactive thyroid are not related to the risk of thyroid cancer in any way, however, non-cancerous conditions such as nodules (adenomas), goitre (an enlarged thyroid) and thyroiditis (inflammation of the thyroid) increase thyroid cancer risk. 3 Radiation and low iodine levels Thyroid cancer is more likely to develop in individuals who have had radiotherapy treatments at a tender age, though the cancer usually develops years later.
