BEST TOOL BATTERY? WHY BIG LITHIUM COST YOU LESS!

10:19
I BOLTR the 18V Makita 5Ah but first I'll show you why bigger is better. Because: CHEMISTRY! The small batteries have 5 cells connected in series. As such, the cells have higher current discharge ratings and generally lower Ah ratings. As a double whammy, higher discharge rates mean shorter lifetime. The larger packs have 3 parallel banks of 5 cells in series. That means each cell in the bank needs lower current discharge and has larger Ah ratings. More BEEF for Less BUCK. Aftermarket lithium-ion power tool battery packs: Are they worth it?

14:11
You've got a cordless power tool or two. And that means you've got some over-priced Li-ion battery packs to run them. What about cheaper aftermarket packs? Are they good? Are they crap? Are they worth it? OOPS: 18650 = 18mm x 65mm, not 650mm. I'm fired. BTW, the packs in this vid are surprisingly simple, without any of the fancier protection circuits. This is rather common in low-end and mid-range power tools with removable battery packs, which is what most people use! For more tech tips, see: https://scottiestech.info

Original Power Tools Batteries Vs Third Party Replacements

This time I'll take a look at cordless power tools batteries made by third party companies and compare them with original ones. In my videos I’m talking a lot about cordless power tools batteries. I did few DIY videos how to identify problems and repair bad batteries. This time I have opportunity to take a look at third party manufactured brand new 18V lithium batteries. Those came from company called: Shenzhen Rich Haoyuan Energy Technology. This particular case covers Makita Power Tools and the Flagpower BL 1830 aftermarket battery. I bought this straight off Amazon with two day shipping...paid $35 USD and got my tools up and running.

Back from the DEAD! Lithium Batteries!

08:57
http://www.realtoolreviews.com/ Get a Multimeter at Amazon here -- http://amzn.to/2fD8Dwx *** USE CAUTION!!! *** Lithium Batteries can & will catch on fire or explode if overheated! Do not attempt to revive completely drained, damaged, or unknown batteries --- only attempt to revive them IF they are still holding a significant charge! (as shown in the video) MOST "dead" batteries are beyond repair --- meaning you never want to disassemble them or replace parts. If this trick does not work, return the dead pack to the manufacturer or recycling center!! DO NOT OPEN THE PACK UP! Do NOT attempt this indoors! Do NOT attempt this near flammable items! ONLY attempt this outside in a driveway or parking lot in case of fire! If you are not comfortable, do not attempt ---- contact the manufacturer for a replacement and/or bring the battery to your local recycling center for disposal.

DIY: How to Revive a dead Li-ion power tool battery

08:15
Fix your dead battery by using a DC power source to raise its voltage. Note: do NOT use a DC power source with more voltage than the maximum rated voltage of the dead battery. If you have a regular 18V or 20V battery pack, that's 21V max (4.2V x5). Do not use a DC power source more than 21V to revive the dead 21V battery. About the wires with alligator clips: make sure you use heavy gauge wires size AWG 14 or bigger. The alligator clips with attached wires from Harbor Freight are not going to make it as the wires are too thin and they will heat up and just melt or burn the insulation right away. And make sure to monitor closely what you're doing cause it might heat up things quickly. As soon as you get the desired voltage (about 16V or more for this kind of batteries), just remove the alligator clips and put the battery in the charger. In other words, just do the parallel charging as minimal as possible and just enough for your charger to recognize the dead battery.

Fixing 18V 2.4Ah Ryobi Lithium Power Tool Batteries

12:08
Identifying the good cells in a dead battery and moving them to another battery, to get it working. But even the 'good' cells are well used, so will this repair stand the test of time? WARNING: Repairing lithium power tool batteries is potentially DANGEROUS. Wear eye protection, do not short or overheat cells. If in doubt - buy new batteries.

How to Store Power Tool Batteries - How to Extend Battery Life

01:03
Subscribe and visit our weekly FIX IT Home Improvement podcast on iTunes or Stitcher https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/fix-it-home-improvement/id880903087?mt=2 Power tool batteries should be stored in a cool dry location. If the battery comes with a cap, use that when out of the tool to protect the contacts. For nickle cadmium batteries you should charge them every month or so to keep it fully charged. Lithium ion batteries can be charged every 6 months or so. Use your cordless tools at every chance. If the battery isn't used regularly, it can form crystals that will shorten its life.

Black & Decker LDX120c Review - 20 Volt Lithium-ion Cordless Drill/driver

04:23
Black & Decker LDX120C 20-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill/Driver Review Black and Decker LDX120c: http://amzn.to/1Xogdx8 Dewalt DCD771C2: http://amzn.to/2236QDM Drill Bits for the LDX120c: http://amzn.to/1NsDDPW Extended Battery for LDX120c: http://amzn.to/1NsE3py Today we’re reviewing the Black and Decker LDX120C 20Volt Cordless Drill. This is probably the most popular cordless drill on the market and is built to use around the house. The first thing that struck me was how compact this drill is. Its barrel measures about 7.5” and its about 8” tall. That’s pretty compact for a drill with a 20V battery. It weighs about 2.5lbs and what I absolutely love, is how well balanced it feels. They designed the drill such that most of its mass is centered around where you grip the drill and this gives you a very balanced grip. And this is important because having an unbalanced tool will put a lot of undue stress on your hand and you’ll tire out pretty fast. The grip on this one though, is almost perfect. The base kit comes with the drill itself, one battery and an ac charger. The 20V lithium ion battery slides and locks into place. Pushing the orange button on the front pops the battery out, so you can plug into the charger. The charger flashes a green led when the battery is charging and a solid green when its fully charged. It’ll flash a rapid red, if the battery has a serious issue and a slower red if the battery is overheating. The drill has a ⅜” chuck. So if you want to drill holes larger than ⅜”, you’ll need to either use a reduced shank drill bit, step drill or a hole saw. I’ll leave links to a few that’ll work with this drill in the description below. The speed can be controlled reasonably precisely using the squeeze trigger, and the drill’s direction can be reversed using the reversing switch. The switch isn’t as heavy duty as something you’d find on a dewalt, but it should work just fine for household use. The ldx120 also has 11 settings on its torque clutch. It has 10 torque settings for driving torque and one for drilling. For household use, I’d recommend just leaving it in the drill setting, even if you’re just driving screws. It has an extremely handy led light which turns on when you gently squeeze the trigger and this is very helpful for when you’re working in poorly lit places. It comes with one driver bit which stores in the base of the drill. And in case you need other driver sizes, it’ll work with any standard set of driver bits. To test the drill, I charged the drill up to a 100% and started off by drilling holes in a pine 2x4 using a ⅜” drill bit. With this bit though, it struggled a bit to break through towards the end. So I changed the bit out to a 5/16” dewalt drill bit and this time, it was able to drill through, without any issue at all. So with thicker materials like a 2x4, I wouldn’t recommend drilling through with a drill bit larger than 5/16”. Next, I wanted to see how well it would drive 2” drywall screws and as you can see, it did this without any serious hesitation. It also unscrewed those drywall screws very easily, using the provided driver bit. And lastly, I tested it with a step drill, to see how large a hole it would cut. It went pretty smoothly till about ¾” but hit a bit of resistance after that. So I wouldn’t recommend drilling holes using hole saws or spade bits, in thicker materials, that are any larger than ¾”. Now you can obviously cut larger holes in thinner materials like plexiglass or mild steel. The battery life is pretty decent and if you’re using it around the house occasionally, you might not even need a spare battery. However, if you plan to use it for longer periods of time, black and decker sells the extended battery which will almost double your run time. I’ll leave a link to that below.

How to revive a dead rechargeable power tool battery easily

03:24
How to revive a dead rechargeable power tool battery easily Rechargeable batteries for power tools sometimes will no longer charge but often these can be easily restored back to life with this simple method. The problem: You have a drill or other power tool with rechargeable batteries but one of the batteries is completely dead and when you plug it into the recharger unit it won't recharge at all. The manufacturers would tell you that you need to buy a new battery. When you look into it you find that the cost a new battery is so high that you may as well just buy a new drill that comes with a couple of new batteries. Well all is not lost! A friend in the UK told me about this method to revive a dead drill battery many years ago and I have used it successfully a number of times since. Basically, it seems that when a battery becomes completely discharged the charger unit effectively does not recognise that a battery has been inserted. This method puts enough charge into the battery so that it is not recognised by the charger and it gets recharged. I take the dead Dewalt battery and a good fully-charged battery and place them side by side. I then use a couple of pairs of scissors to connect the terminals together (plus to plus and negative to negative). I keep them connected for a minute or so and by then the dead battery has sufficient charge to be fully recharged by the charger unit. Of course you can use two pieces of wire or something else to connect the batteries together but I have found scissors work well when doing it by yourself with only one pair of hands. Although I have fix a Dewalt battery here I have used this method to fix other makes when the battery will not charge. So, in future, if you have a dead Nicd power tool battery try this power tool battery fix first before buying new. Dewalt 40V XR Brushless 16" Chainsaw DCCS690 Review

08:43
Price the Dewalt 40v Chainsaw on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1ZuefLp Battery operated outdoor power equipment is coming on strong. The products are long lasting, strong and in many ways equal to their gas counterparts, without the hassle of starting a gas motor. At this point, battery operated outdoor power equipment will work for many people and provide a great alternative to gas operated equipment. Dewalt has a well proven 40 volt line of outdoor power equipment and we would suggest that you take a look at the Dewalt 40v Sting Trimmer. That unit takes the same battery as this chainsaw and had a runtime of 40 minutes or constant normal use. While battery operated chainsaws are not new, we went at this review in a way to prove that this saw would be a great chainsaw for most people. To be a good chainsaw, we believe, this unit will have to be able to cut a fairly large tree down when needed on a single charge, have the power to cut 16" logs without issue, and generally have the quality that will last someone a very long time. To simulate a storm damaged tree, we cut a box elder tree down on my property that was leaning over one of our trails. This tree was over 14" at the base and was 40 foot tall. To be a good chainsaw, the Dewalt unit would have to be able to cut this full tree down and also limb it for cleanup. Because there is a 30 to 40 minute charge time, we feel it is important that the saw be able to complete the work needed without needing a charge.

Product Review - Hitachi 18v Lithium Ion Drill / Driver

10:43
MMM - 41 Hitachi makes some well-built and reliable tools. This is my unsolicited review of the 18V Lithium Ion Drill / Driver combo that I purchased at the end of 2014. See video for greater details. For the average DIY / woodworking enthusiast: Price: Comparable to any good brand. Less expensive than Dewalt, more expensive than Black + Decker, comparable with Bosch. It's worth whatever price you pay for it, but there's no shame in waiting until a deal is going on. Power: Excellent! The 18V Li-ion batteries are high performers, in my opinion. They last a long time before needing to be charged (four weeks or so with regular shop projects), and they provide the tools with plenty of energy to crank out all of that drilling/driving torque you need. Additionally, the hammer setting on the drill is superb. Design: Ergonomic to the point of artistry. My weak wrists never complain after using them. Incredibly balanced. Stylish. Simple and intuitive. Improvements: My one wish would be for Hitachi to find a way to magnetize the chucks for the drill bits and drivers so that no matter what bits you're using they would magnetically hold screws. This is a 5 out of 5 star review for this product. Enjoy! Should you buy a Battery Powered Chainsaw? Dewalt 12 inch DCCS620 XR 20v Review & Test.

10:04
If you've thought about buying a battery powered chainsaw over a gas one, this is the review you don't need to see. The Dewalt DCCS620 20V XR chainsaw is a capable yard lithium ion powered tool that completes the ultimate yard tool- you. This review and "extreme" test examines real world battery life, tips and tricks, life hacks, cheat codes but basically is an excuse to play with power tools, listen to clasical music and see some slow motion. This video is not a proper demonstration on chainsaw safety and best practices. SEO might disagree, but please do not confuse this with the larger 16” flex volt 40v or 60v saw or their drills or impact drivers. Ok that got some hits probably. Also lawn maintenance, arborist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. You can buy the Dewalt by itself here (no battery): https://amzn.to/2IDtmzp Battery and charger: https://amzn.to/2IEdHjs Extra Battery: https://amzn.to/2IVLwQo

Dewalt Flexvolt 9.0Ah 6.0Ah vs 20 volt max 5.0Ah 2.0Ah vs 40 volt - How Dewalt Batteries Size Up

04:59
Price teh Dewalt FlexVolt Battery pack on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2nhIM5O More Volts Equals More Power? - Dewalt has changed from the 18 volt battery platform to a 20 volt max battery platform a while back due to battery style changes. This change also has/had many thinking that the 20 volt max platform is more powerful than the 18 volt platform because it has 2 more volts. (Not true). Now Dewalt introduces the Flexvolt battery that is 20 volt or 60 volt depending on the tool it is in. That is awesome innovation, but also a bit deceiving. The Flexvolt battery is a 3P 20 volt battery, or 3 sets of battery cells wired in series that each equal 20 volts, then wired in parallel to produce 20 volts. When the tool is a 60 volt tool, the communication from battery to tool allows for the circuit to be changed to the battery being wired in series, allowing for 60 volts. Confused yet? Watch our YouTube video and it will be a bit clearer. Our point in the video is that voltage in some cases does not mean more power. We show you that the Dewalt 40 volt battery is larger and will be Dewalt's commercial outdoor power equipment line leader, even though it is 20 volts less than the Flexvolt battery. We want you to know what you are buying!

DeWalt 18v 20v battery conversion kit review

This is a review of the Dewalt DCA2203C 18V to 20V battery adapter kit. It allows you to use the newer, better, Lion batteries in your older NiCad 18V tools. It's relatively cheap and a better alternative than buying more junk NiCad cells. Black & Decker 20v MAX Lithium Drill/Driver (LDX120C) Review

08:51
Review: 3/5 Very Light-Weight Drill, Missing Some Conveniences. At first I thought this was decent light-weight drill that was up to the job. I got this as a gift and am very happy with it as a second drill to augment my existing 8-year old Ryobi ONE Plus drill (that I recently dropped and bent). There is a lot to like. It seems plenty of power (at first), it is smaller, lighter, has a light, and is easier to use when it comes to weight, size, & light. I especially like the light, which is quite useful when drilling / screwing in corners and out of the way places without great lighting. It fits into more spaces than my old drill, which is useful in cramped spaces that the other drill might not even fit. The charger is very small too, which means you could fit the whole thing in a drawer or small space. Overall, is a light duty drill for light work, or small spaces. It is missing some conveniences, that kept it from being my one and only primary drill when I first bought it. (1) It doesn't have a magnetic strip for holding loose items. It has been so convenient with my Ryobi to have screws & drill bits stuck right on the base of the drill. (2) The screwdriver is not magnetic to hold a screw on. This is a huge deal, but easily replaced by just using any screwdriver insert that is magnetic. It is so convenient on my Ryobi to place a screw on it without having to hold the screw with a second hand. But the magnetic part is not actually the drill itself, so you should be able to buy one. (3) It comes with only one battery. It is very convenient to have two so you never have to stop your work. You can buy them separately, but they aren't cheap. (4) The screw direction in/out arrows are hard to see at a glance. It is much nicer when the arrow is plain and clear right on the button. (5) It doesn't come with a case, so you may have to find a box to put it in if not going in a drawer. (6) The trigger sensitivity seems a little faster than I would prefer to really control the speed. It just doesn't seem as natural to vary the speed as it did with my Ryobi that seemed to have more degrees of freedom in acceleration. I do a lot of handy work and home projects around my own house, and I absolutely loved my Ryobi ONE Plus I bought 8 years ago. I was happy with this drill as a second drill. It is great for when my Ryobi will not fit or runs out of battery. If you are an avid handyman around your house, you might really miss some of the features I mentioned if this were your only drill. But if you just need a drill for occasional light work, this one should be fine. I could recommend it for light use. But more real power and conveniences would be better for extended heavy use. UPDATE: This is really a light-duty drill. I recently did a lot of work in my garage, and this drill did not perform. It couldn't drill through wood studs that I would normally easily do with my Ryobi. It just wouldn't drill wood sometimes. Furthermore, the trigger is too sensitive for my preference with screws. I feel much more control on my other drills than I have with this. It ramps up its speed too quickly and feels like it has less control. This is truly a light-duty drill, okay as a backup, but did not perform when I needed it for a project with more than just a few screws or holes. 18V vs 20V Max Batteries - Which is Better?

08:30
Since the dawn of...um...well, in the last several years, people have been confused about 18V vs 20V Max lithium-ion batteries. The truth is, there really isn't ANY difference. Still not satisfied? Watch, and we'll explain the math and science behind 18V vs 20V batteries, and settle the issue (hopefully) once and for all. By the way—there's actually some valid technology jumps in here that you may not have even heard of...like 22V and 24V Max packs and 20700 cells (see our extended "outtake" at the end). What's inside a Milwaukee 9.0 Battery? How does it compare to the DeWalt 60V Li-ion Tools? It's got beefier LG cells and a HEFTY price tag. I accidentally damage it, but manage to recover the blinking red LED-o-DEATH. I test it at 0F, -20C and it doesn't work well, despite marketing claims to the contrary. You can charge the pack and let it sit for a few days/week. Then put a flash light 3v bulb onto a individual cell and measure the voltage as the bulb is attached. You'll be able to determine the strong cells vs the weak. The good cells should stay around 1.3 volts or more. You'll see some drop right under a volt immediately(those are really bad). Letting it sit for a while shows you the cells with high self discharge rates.
