Needs versus wants - GetWise | ASB

01:31
Teaching kids about money - Needs versus wants. Thanks to the ABS GetWise programme, we've helped over 400,000 Kiwi kids become cash clever. Watch more ASB money tips at http://asb.co/asbmoneytips or find out more on GetWise at https://www.asb.co.nz/getwise An important money skill to teach children is the difference between needs and wants. But for children that can be tricky. Put simply, a need is something you must have to survive, like food, water and a home. A want is something that's nice to have, but you can actually live without, like an ice cream or a new skateboard. Watch the other ASB GetWise videos for more fun ways to help your children learn about money. The story of the Third Wave experiment as told by the students and their teacher, Ron Jones Available on iTunes: https://geo.itunes.apple.com/gb/movie/lesson-plan/id1281607264?mt=6 Watch it on Amazon Video: http://a.co/9oWC239 Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/movies/details/Lesson_Plan?id=40IyT8xZIsc&hl=en_GB JMAN.tv: https://jman.tv/film/5634/Lesson+Plan A documentary about the 1967 Third Wave experiment in fascism that took place at Cubberley High School in Palo Alto, California. The charismatic teacher, Ron Jones, created a classroom setting wherein students subjugated personal freedom for the good of the community. Within one week, 30 students grew to 200. Taking on a life of its own, the Third Wave students unwittingly re-enacted the roots of the Third Reich. Replete with salutes and Gestapo-like informants, the experiment soon attracted scores of students throughout Cubberley as well as neighboring schools, spiraling the exercise not only out of Jones' control but the students' as well. Original students, Ron Jones, school administrators and Dr. Philip Zimbardo (creator of the Stanford Prison Experiment) have been interviewed for this film. What makes the film so unique is that the director was a member of the original Third Wave class. The Basics: Our Community

02:27
Our work is about people – our students, who have the potential to be whatever they dream to be, and their parents, who want the best for them; our corps members, who work tirelessly to help their students achieve academic success; our alumni, who work in education and across all fields to create changes in our education system; and our supporters and partners, who make our work possible. These individuals bring a diversity of experiences to our work but are united by a shared vision that one day, all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education. Lesson planning with Positive Choices: Engaging your students with evidence-based drug education

57:37
This webinar is part of the new Positive Choices webinar series, developed by CREMS researchers specifically for parents, teachers, school leaders, and anyone working with young people. This session will be particularly suitable for PDHPE teachers, but also relevant to principals, school counsellors or anyone working in a school community who would like information about online, evidence-based drug education and prevention. The webinar will introduce attendees to the Positive Choices drug education portal which houses a range of engaging learning resources that align with Australian Health and Physical Education curriculum requirements. The interactive session will provide an overview of what’s available in terms of school-based drug prevention, with a focus on evidence-based materials proven to improve student’s learning outcomes and wellbeing. Attendees will be shown how to use the portal to their advantage and will be provided with support in lesson planning and guidance about how to access and evaluate evidence-based resources that are engaging for young people. This webinar will lead to: 1. Awareness of the patterns of drug and alcohol use among young people and effective school-based prevention approaches; 2. Orientation to a range of resources with the potential to engage all students despite their individual learning styles and requirements; 3. Understanding of how to use the portal to plan lessons online according to Australian curriculum requirements. Evidence Base This webinar was developed by Dr Lexine Stapinski and Siobhan Lawler at the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Mental Health and Substance Use, National Drug & Alcohol Research Centre, UNSW and informed by review of the research evidence on this topic.

2018 JET PROGRAM INTRODUCTION LESSON | UPDATED!!!

16:24
The introduction of the JET Program is a really difficult thing to do and plan especially because a lot of people coming into the JET Program have zero teaching experience and also no idea what kind of level your students are at. In this video I show you my updated introduction lesson for a low level Senior High School here in Japan. I will also link my original introduction lesson down below and you will be able to see what exact changes I made to it to make it how it is in this video. I hope these videos help you shape your own introduction lesson for the JET Program. Just remember that your introduction lesson should be tailored to what your comfortable with and what kind of school you are at (eg. English level of the students, access to technology etc). But either way, the most important aspect is. to. make. sure. the. students. are. involved. .. I can't stress this enough, it's so important to throw in an activity that involves the kids. It's not fun for the students to try to pay attention to this new random foreigner in their classroom who is speaking a language that they barely understand. But anyway, if you guys need more guidance or anything like that, don't hesitate to leave a comment down below or send me a message on instagram (I sometimes take a while to reply but i will always get around to it). But anyway, please give this video a BIG THUMBS UP if it has helped you in some way and it would be awesome if you could share my channel around in the JET Program community, I always welcome new peeps in the squad!! Woop woop enjoy your day everyone and i'll see you in my next one!!! INTRODUCTION LESSON TIMING: 50 minute lesson (OMG guys I totally forgot one part of the lesson. Right at the start of the class, I get the students to write desk name tags with a piece of folded up paper and some colored pens. This name plate is to be brought to every class with me). 1. Hello, how are you blah blah (1 minute) 2. What is introduction/introduce in Japanese? (1-2 minutes) 3. Do my introduction ie. please guess how old I am, draw flag on board etc. (10 minutes) (You can also add in more information about yourself unrelated to the quiz or perhaps show them some money from your home country or something -it's all about keeping them engaged!). 4. Hand out worksheets, "please write name, class, number and date and the top. PLEASE WRITE YOUR NAME IN ENGLISH" (1 minute) 5. Students will work with their friends or by themselves to finish the answers (5 minutes) 6. Write answers on the blackboard (3-4 minutes) 7. Move onto next activity, hand out work sheets. write name etc on paper(1 minute) 8. Example of activity with student or the JTE (2 minutes) 9. Students to complete the activity (rest of the lesson with 1-2 minutes to spare to finish up) 10. Finish the lesson and maybe have a little thank you speech ready for the end if you have time. ~~~~~MY OLD INTRODUCTION LESSON~~~~~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yACLdFiJ5g ~CHECK OUT MY OTHER VIDEOS~ | MY TOP TEN TEACHING TIPS IN JAPAN | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Fl08wo8lGM | MOVING HOUSE ON THE JET PROGRAM! | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NvmLgv0pC4&t=142s | JET PROGRAM | FIRST MONTH IN JAPAN | WHAT TO EXPECT | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKGjZE5EcMI | JET PROGRAM | DISAPPOINTED IN YOUR PLACEMENT? | URBAN VS RURAL | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKGjZE5EcMI | JET PROGRAM | INTRODUCTION LESSON | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yACLdFiJ5g | JET PROGRAM APARTMENT TOUR | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cz2PmXv7xk F O L L O W M E ! ! ! Empathy Can Change the World

02:24
This video was dreamed up, scripted, and acted out by some of my amazing 8th grade students from Kalispell Middle School. The vision was to create a thought provoking short film that instills a challenge to the viewer to look at their own life, their own relationships, and their own sphere of influence, and see where a little empathy could help change the world around them. In working in a middle school for the past 5 years, I've seen the power that a single act of empathy can have on a hurting student, and hope that this message will inspire viewers, just as my own students have inspired me in creating this. Please share in our vision for a more empathetic world. Song: Say Something Instrumental, A Great New World

Peoples University Mathematics 1 part 4 of 6

09:52
The Peoples University is an educational program designed to encourage the maximum use of public libraries in underprivileged, African American communities. The program consists of classroom discussions, held during traditional after school hours at various public libraries throughout the United States. The discussions are centered upon a publication, copyrighted in 1987, by a group of notable black scholars, entitled The Baseline Essays. By 1990, The Baseline Essays were thoroughly infused into the Portland Public School District Curriculum. After receiving the 1990 revision of the Baseline Essays, Look It Up Inc. (also known as LIU) staff began to examine the work in July of 2009. In August of 2009, The Peoples University was formed as a study group, aimed at either definitively proving or disproving information found within the Baseline Essays. The mission of LIU is to promote critical and analytical thinking in Black and impoverished communities. By analyzing this work, we believe that we serve our mission as well as multiple purposes related to the recovery of African American communities. We consider the Peoples University to be a community research project, which in itself will force participants to critically and analytically think. The actual content of the Baseline Essays will challenge many notions that African Americans have about their origins and their relation to present day society. Thus, reclaiming the self esteem and self respect needed to become productive communities. By holding our discussions in public libraries, we are enabled to immediately engage in further research. With participants constantly looking for materials related to the content found in the essays, local libraries will be encouraged to keep its material relevant to the community that it serves; Thus fulfilling the mission of the Peoples University itself. Finally, throughout the course of our research of the material, LIU staff will be creating lesson plans based off of the essays. This will fulfill the obligation that our forefathers left for us within the work. The authors of this great work have encouraged further generations to revise and create lesson plans and programs from its contents. The Look It Up Movement is committed, through the research of the Peoples University, to creating a full curriculum for grades K-12, that will be accepted in public schools nationwide.

The authors of this great work have encouraged further generations to revise and create lesson plans and programs from its contents. The Look It Up Movement is committed, through the research of the Peoples University, to creating a full curriculum for grades K-12, that will be accepted in public schools nationwide.
