Prostate Cancer & Breast Cancer - Early detection and treatment
Did you know that breast cancer and prostate cancer have almost identical statistics? Prostate cancer is just as common in men as breast cancer is in women. Both cancers will have over 233,000 cases diagnosed each year They even share pathologic similarities, each having a gray-zone diagnoses and pre-cancerous lesions. So what is the difference? Due to increased awareness for breast cancer, women are more educated, knowledgeable and prone to screening early and often for breast cancer Men statistically speaking are generally less educated, and adverse to screening. How do we change this? Raising awareness for prostate cancer is critical so that more attention can be brought to this disease. Early detection is not only critical, it can also save the life of a loved one. Get tested today! #DrDavidSamadi #ProstateCancer #BreastCancer

Lung Cancer: Early Diagnosis and Management (American Cancer Society, 1969)
This program discusses the preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic measures indicated for lung cancer. The program notes that pre-cancerous lesions from smoking may be reversible and that periodic chest x-rays should be used as the primary diagnostic tool. Such pathologic conditions as the thickening of the bronchial epithelium basal cells with atypical nuclei are described through microscopic views. Radiographs and drawings of several clinical cases illustrate the inoperability of lesions due to their location. Another clinical patient with alveolar cell carcinoma is presented to illustrate that other pulmonary diseases such as recurrent bronchitis or pneumonia can often obscure the detection of cancer. The program maintains that differential procedures such as sputum cytology, laryngoscopy, bronchoscopy, and mediastinoscopy should be indicated whenever the x-rays reveal a lung shadow persisting longer that two weeks. The program suggests the use of radiotherapy and chemotherapy in patients with inoperable lesions. Produced by the American Cancer Society. Alan J. Wein, MD, PhD (Hon) - Urologist, Penn Medicine
Watch an interview with Alan J. Wein, MD, PhD (Hon), Chief of Urology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and the Founder's Professor of Urology, and the Chief of the Division of Urology at Penn Medicine. "Innovation has always been one of the strong suits here at Penn, and in urology we endeavor to translate innovative techniques into common clinical practice." "I see patients mostly with urologic cancer, that is carcinoma of the prostate, it's probably the most common thing I see. Every patient should get the benefit of the expertise of the institutions. So if you put together the expertise of the 15 people, we truly cover every single area in adult urology with someone who is truly an expert and specifically trained in that area as well as the other areas of adult urology." "We now have four fully-trained robotic surgeons on staff, and each of the three hospitals; Pennsylvania Hospital, Presbyterian Penn Medical Center and the Hospital, the University of Pennsylvania, has trained robotics surgeons there that can do cancer robotic surgery on prostate, on bladder, on kidney." "We like to think of ourselves as an organ preservation center where we can, so in other words, kidney-sparing operations for kidney cancer, bladder-sparing operations and protocols for bladder cancer, obviously, the application of proton therapy to prostate cancer, a huge innovation; the largest proton treatment center in the world right across the street there, you know, just waiting to accept prostate cancer patients who are applicable for that and who want that therapy over others." "We're constantly trying to apply what has been proven to be applicable, successful, effective, have minimal risks to our patients, not just with cancer but with every other malady that we treat. If something is new and exciting, if it has backup to show that it's effective, then we'll apply it in our patients. We'll be the first in the area to do that, always." "I'm Alan Wein. I'm the Chief of Urology here at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and the Founder's Professor of Urology, and the Chief of the Division of Urology at Penn Medicine." Oklahoma Diabetes Prevention Program
Working with partners around the state, the Oklahoma State Department of Health put together a series of videos highlighting the importance of early detection and participating in a diabetes prevention program. The video tells the story of three participants in the program who experienced positive life changes on their journey to a healthier lifestyle. The participants speak about how the program helped them understand what it means to eat better, move more, be tobacco free and reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. They shared how the program not only improves their health numbers, but those of their family and friends. Participants in the National Diabetes Prevention Program in Oklahoma have an average weight loss exceeding the percentage recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). This program coaches participants about healthy eating and drinking, as well as increasing physical activity. Participants work together with a lifestyle coach to achieve their goals. Participants are encouraged to explore new and exciting ways to increase their activity level and maintain a healthy lifestyle. For those at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes, the American Medical Association recommends an intervention such as the National Diabetes Prevention Program. Participants in this program have reduced their risk for developing Type 2 diabetes by 58 percent. Currently, there are 16 diabetes prevention programs in Oklahoma. How do you know if you may be at risk of developing prediabetes? Risk assessment screening tests are available on the American Diabetes Association website, the CDC website as well as the OSDH website. These sites also contain additional information on reducing your risks of developing Type 2 Diabetes. If you find you are at risk of developing prediabetes, contact your health care provider and have them test your A1C levels. Visit diabetes.health.ok.gov for more information on diabetes prevention programs in Oklahoma. View the full version of this video here: https://youtu.be/IU0Sk4v3lCc
