Miriam Clements for MP on the North Shore - A New Economy innovated on the North Shore

17:05
Logic politics offer a prosperous, low tax economy, while enabling generous provision for the public good, to cover people's needs. We have the power to generate a public budget, that covers all of our costs without artificial limits, while maximising business and profit opportunities for those who prioritise wealth creation. I am asking for your vote for MP on the North Shore this election, to lead the North Shore in a sustainable, economic transition that will be the envy of the world. We reside in the area of New Zealand most confident to innovate with the best minds alive, alongside use of technologies and financial structures that will change everyone's quality of life; without favoring either side of the growing social divide that the other political parties foster. The Logic system demonstrates that everyone will have dignity and prosperity; without coming at the cost or sacrifice of another. Listen to the entire video to understand as i cover quite a few elements which explain the most valuable knowledge of our generation. I 'logic' tested my policies with Warren Mosler yesterday, one of the world's most successful financiers and leading economists; he even ran for President in the US. I learnt a thing or two ;) but came away all the more certain: With no risk, the North Shore can establish a new currency to finance all our social costs, increase the wages of our local nurses, school teachers, police and service workers; build the bridges and overpass we need to end traffic congestion; construct automated underground shelving carparks and world leading sustainable buildings capable of protecting our sunlit ground level public spaces like protecting Anzac Street for the Takapuna markets. We can finance all the houses urgently required; establish free dental care and doctors visits to all those who live on the North Shore; provide our children more teachers and free nutritious school lunches; increase benefits and pensions to a living level; model world class social health programs; better manage our beaches, waste, energy and water at a local level and even extend entrepreneurship and business development loans, in order to stoke the local economy and provide our residents with increasing disposable income. One of my next videos will explain how easily this new currency will establish as a new symbol of exchange here, how it will be structured, and how supply and demand of real goods, in real time, are a natural check and balance, with one extra element needed, still to be explained... All this and our tax can be entirely minimised. This is all totally possible with the most simple understanding of money, exchange, currency and how it can all be implemented to work for a prosperous, generous economy; with tools to manage and diminish all risk of inflation or without any devaluation of the NZD. What this means is that both National and Act (effectively a budget that imposes austerity measures and forcing poverty on the low wage earners) and Labour and Top (tax on steroids, who will diminish our capacity to effectively allocate our own money and to manage our own lives with low to no disposable income); are both different extreme's of intellectually challenged political theories; when it comes to a lack of understanding of how the core fundamentals of the financial system works and we the public, pay the price. The major parties keep us in a slightly lower or higher tax version of effective poverty with a scarcity of money exchanging through tight budgets or high tax, either way the outcome is not enough money in our pockets to spend. I'm tired of seeing shops closing down and restaurants empty around here, where within 6 months of the Logic system installed for a soft market test; the North Shore could begin its path to an abundant, dynamic economy; and methodically evidence itself to the public, witohout risk. If you share my vision for change and a new economic system with more balance between people and profit but maximising the benefit for both, please Vote for me for your MP on the North Shore and i'll rally the community toward a new and sustainable economic future, that some of the best minds in the world, agree is the superior economic model and: Totally possible when I win your vote. The message is brought to you by Miriam Clements, standing for MP on the North Shore. miriam.clements@sustainablequalitypurpose.com
CTV Making a Difference - Grandparent Connections program at North Shore Neighbourhood House

02:09
Many seniors who have budgeted for life on a pension are rethinking their retirement plans. As many as 65,000 children in Canada are being raised by their grandparents. The lack of services to support these families can create additional mental, financial and physical stress for seniors and can exclude children from recreational and educational opportunities. The United Way supported Grandparent Connections Program at the North Shore Neighbourhood House steps up to help grandparents fulfill their role as caregivers.

Aging with Grace

04:39
A UW study spearheaded by Ivan Molton, Ph.D, UW Department of Rehabilitation, looks to help seniors with disabilities age with grace. Meet wellness coach Nikki Bagli and her work with seniors to help motivate them and improve the quality of their life. This study is the product of a collaboration between the University of Washington’s Healthy Aging Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) and Senior Services. Healthy Aging RRTC is housed within the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the focus of our center is to promote healthy aging for adults who are aging with long-term physical disabilities. Specifically, the research focuses on adults with multiple sclerosis (MS), muscular dystrophy (MD), post-polio syndrome (PPS) and spinal cord injury (SCI). EnhanceWellness is part of a larger program through Senior Services called Project Enhance, which offers evidence-based programs for achieving healthy living at over 40 sites in King County and 500 sites nationally. EnhanceWellness was originally developed as a health & wellness program for older adults, which brings a wellness coach (a social worker or nurse) together with participants to help them reach a health related goal of their choosing. EnhanceWellness has not been tested in adults who are living with MS, MD, PPS or SCI. As a result, our research group (the Healthy Aging RRTC) is collaborating with Senior Services to see if EnhanceWellness is also beneficial to adults with these 4 conditions. Our hope is that with a few adaptations, we can provide evidence to support EnhanceWellness’s effectiveness to a new group of adults and thus broaden the reach of an already successful program. Northshore Senior Center has been affiliated with Senior Services of Seattle/King County since 1982 and offers all of the Project Enhance programming. Hempstead Town Hosts L.I.’s Largest Senior Health Fair

00:58
Supervisor Anthony J. Santino and the Town of Hempstead today held Long Island’s largest Senior Citizen Health and Wellness Fair at the Malone-Mulhall Recreation Center at Camp ANCHOR in Lido Beach. Presented by the town’s Department of Senior Enrichment, this event is the most comprehensive senior health fair on Long Island. “We were pleased to see so many Town of Hempstead senior citizens visiting Long Island’s largest Health and Wellness Fair to take advantage of the many free health services, screenings, financial-related information and other great programs,” stated Supervisor Santino. “This is one way that our township is helping to keep seniors healthy and safe this summer.” Free health services offered for senior citizen residents included screenings for blood glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, body mass index, balance, dental, prostate cancer and many more. Seniors also measured their body mass index, balance, height and weight. What’s more, the Department of Senior Enrichment assisted seniors with registering for the Vial of Life Program, a kit which includes a health care proxy and emergency health care information. “I can’t think of a better place for senior residents to get a quick and convenient health check-up than during this free town event,” said Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney. Added Councilman Anthony D’Esposito, “It was wonderful to see the many ‘golden-aged’ residents during this year’s Senior Citizen Health and Wellness Fair.” Medical representatives recorded the results of health screenings in personalized booklets and indicated if a senior required a follow-up with their doctor. The free screenings offered included blood pressure check, cholesterol and blood glucose screening, PSA testing (Prostate Cancer), chiropractic, hearing, dental, vision, balance, posture analysis and video otoscopy (enables viewing of ear canal and eardrum on a monitor). Participating hospitals included Northwell Health – North Shore University Hospital/LIJ Health System, North Shore University Hospital (LIJ Health Systems), NuHealth – Nassau University Medical Center, South Nassau Communities Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, Winthrop-University Hospital and Mercy Medical Center. This event was sponsored by Hempstead Town in cooperation with Home Instead Senior Care, GB Audiology, Bussani Mobility Team, HearUSA, Second Home of Long Island, North Shore LIJ FIDA LiveWell, Maxim Healthcare Services, Senior Helpers, MetLife, Lynbrook Restorative Therapy & Nursing, Medicaid Advisory Group, GuildNet Jewish Guild Healthcare, Nassau Extended Care, Life Inc. SEC Registered Investment Advisor - Springer Financial Predicts Looming Retirement Crisis

01:47
SEC registered investment advisor - Http://www.SacramentoFinancialPlan.com - Keith Springer, President and founder of Springer Financial Advisors in Sacramento CA, an SEC registered investment advisory firm, manages more than 200 million in retirement assets. Springer says Americans are ill-prepared for a looming retirement crisis. Springer says the economy has changed dramatically in the last 30 years because of the changing spending habits of baby boomers, estimated at 90 million people in the US. During the 80's and 90's, baby boomers pushed the economy forward. Now that the baby boomers are much older, however, they're not spending as much and are not driving the economy forward. This factor, coupled with an unpredictable stocks and real estate market, have the set the state for a retirement crisis for which most retiring Americans are not prepared. Springer recommends the following steps to help you protect your savings as you head into your golden years of retirement. 1. Understand today's economy 2. "Invest for need, not for greed" 3. Choose the right Social Security option 4. Create a lasting retirement income stream 5. Plan for elder care Springer provides details on each of these steps in an interview given to Fox Business news. To see the interview, watch other informational and helpful videos, as well as download Springer's latest retirement report, visit: http://www.SacramentoFinancialPlan.com. Springer has developed a proprietary process for successfully building tax-efficient and retirement portfolios and has been providing specialty wealth management services for over 27 years.

New Client Wellness Tracking System from Freedom Home Care

01:37
Freedom Home Care is excited to announce that they have raised the bar on transparency and communication between families and caregivers with the introduction of their new Client Wellness Tracking System (FreedomCWTS). This system incorporates computer tablet technology and customized software which is placed in the home of each client, allowing caregivers to check in, make notes, and send important updates in real time on the health and wellbeing of each client. The FreedomCWTS system is set to send alerts for falls, weight-loss, change in appetite, change in insulin/oxygen levels and blood pressure readings. When one of these things happens, the Freedom Home Care team is notified and can follow up immediately. This is their way of preventing hospitalizations and staying on top of each client’s care. Farewell Haka for Mr. John Adams

01:52
Mr. John Adams Retires At assembly this morning we bid farewell to Mr. John Adams, the school Guidance Counsellor, who is retiring from teaching. Mr. Adams is moving to Nelson to be closer to his family so that he can dedicate more of his time to them. Mr. Adams has provided thirty years of dedicated service to Palmerston North Boys’ High School and the young men who attend this school. Mr. Adams was appointed to a long term relief position teaching science and agriculture in February 1986 and gained a permanent position as a teacher of science and physics in June 1986. He was the Year 10 Dean from 1989 – 1993, the Assistant Head of the Science Department from July 1990 – December 1992, and the Head of the Physics Department from 1992 – 1997. In 1998 Mr. Adams was appointed as the Head of the Science Department, a key leadership position in the school, and one he held until the end of 2004. He was awarded a Royal Society Teacher Fellowship in 2001, when he spent time at Massey University researching renewable energy sources. This fellowship recognised the high esteem with which Mr. Adams was held in the physics and science teaching fraternities in New Zealand and the outstanding results students he taught had achieved over a long period of time. In 2005 Mr. Adams was appointed as the school Guidance Counsellor, a position he has held until now. In order to fulfill this position Mr. Adams was required to complete a counselling qualification, a Master of Counselling, which he did in 2007, having been selected to receive a teacher study award. Mr. Adams has a real affinity for young men and has worked tirelessly in all of his roles to remove obstacles to student learning and to help ensure that our young men are able to achieve the best possible academic results. In his role as Counsellor, Mr. Adams has assisted countless young men and families in some very trying circumstances. Each of these situations has been approached with empathy, genuine care and concern, and strategies enacted that have the best interests of the young men concerned at their core. Additional to this service at Palmerston North Boys’ High School, Mr. Adams served as a parent representative on the Board of the New Zealand Correspondence School from 1995 – 1998 and in 1998 was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Correspondence School. Prior to his teaching career Mr. Adams had a range of experiences as a dairy farmer, in forestry and a stint as a possum trapper. A notable component of his teaching was how he was able to draw on these experiences in the classroom and put his teaching into context for the young men in his classes. This has played a significant role in the outstanding academic results his classes have achieved. This morning at assembly Mr. Adams was presented with an Academic Stole. This award, normally made at the end-of-the-year at the full school prizegiving, is reserved to recognise those teachers who have had an unwavering focus on academic achievement throughout their careers. Mr. Adams has certainly embodied the requirement for this award. Guidance counselling by its very nature often involves being the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff – responding to problems and crises after they occur. Mr. Adams has endeavoured to also bring a proactive approach to his role. An example of this is the system of support that has been implemented for our young Pasifika men on his initiative. Mr. Adams is also a staunch supporter of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School Leadership programme, recognising the proactive nature of this approach to the development of young men. Mr. Adams has been fully involved in the co-curricular life of the school. He has coached rugby teams, been involved with the mountain biking group, and more recently managed hockey and basketball teams. Mr. Adams has a particular interest in the outdoors, and has organised and participated in a wide variety of school camps, including running one on his own farm a number of years ago. On behalf of the young men of Palmerston North Boys’ High School, the staff, Board of Trustees and the wider school community, I would like to thank and acknowledge Mr. Adams for the very significant impact he has had on our school over the last thirty years, and to wish him all the best for his retirement. Klondike Alaska: A Rail History

01:29:30
For most people, railroads in Alaska and the Yukon are synonymous with the Alaska Railroad and the White Pass and Yukon Railroad whose passenger cars provide tourists with vistas of awe-inspiring terrain. That same terrain provided enormous challenges for early settlers of both territories. Railroads were an integral part of overcoming those challenges. Dozens of other railroads also laid track in Alaska, the Yukon, and northwest British Columbia and provided the means to transport supplies to settlements and to transport the region’s raw materials to outside markets. Klondike Alaska charts the history of many of those railroads. ©KUAC 2005 DVD's of this program are available for purchase at www.kuac.org.

Center for Advancing Health Welcome from Jessie Gruman

03:55
The Center for Advancing Health (www.cfah.org) works to increase people's engagement in their health care, knowing that we will not get the full benefit of our care unless we participate actively in it. As someone who has been diagnosed with four different kinds of cancer, I have a lot of experience with health care and understand personally what it means to engage in my care. If you, like me, have visited the doctor or hospital recently, you know that finding good care and making the most of it is a challenge. Advances in medicine mean that tests, drugs and procedures are more effective than ever before. But we often overlook the fact that many of these advances depend on us — patients and caregivers — to make them work. Surgery has improved. You can get a hip replacement or a hysterectomy and come home from the hospital quicker — but also sicker. Then we and our families have to manage the wound care and the diet and the medications and the rehab — all the things that used to be done for us by professionals in the hospital. Drugs have really improved. People with chronic conditions like cancer, diabetes and HIV/AIDS can now live long and well with our diseases. But we have to make big changes in our lifestyle and follow complicated instructions if those drugs are going to actually work. When I got my third cancer diagnosis in 2005, my eyes were really opened to how our responsibilities have changed. I was just stunned at what I had to do to get good care and to make it have an impact on my health: I had to find the right surgeon and oncologist, to get the chemotherapy, to care for myself at home and then to make the long recovery. I really struggled to figure everything out. After I got better I talked to hundreds of people about their health care and I heard again and again how surprised they were by what they were expected to do to care for themselves or their wife or their child. And how unprepared they felt to do it. Since I founded the Center for Advancing Health in 1992, we've worked to help people understand their changing role in their health and health care. The work of CFAH focuses on the actions that we — patients and caregivers — must take in order to benefit from our care. In addition to caring for ourselves when we come home from the hospital and managing the drugs and lifestyle demands of illnesses like diabetes and heart disease, we also have to: - Find the right doctors to care for us. - Sometimes we have to get a second opinion. - We have to work with our doctor to figure out which treatment will work best for us and then follow through on it. - We have to make appointments and make sure every doctor has our health records. - We have to get screening tests like mammograms and vaccines like flu shots. - And even if we have insurance, we have to pay for our care — the co-pays, deductibles, and bills. None of us has to do all these things all the time, but all of us have to do them at some point, and we have to know that we have to do them and how to do them in order to get the best results from our health care. If you are a patient or family caregiver, take a look at the Be a Prepared Patient section (http://www.cfah.org/prepared-patient/) of our website to learn how you can do this. If you are a scientist or clinician, take a look at the research and programs in the Engagement section (http://www.cfah.org/engagement/) of our site. To read important news stories on the latest scientific research on decisions we make about our health care check out the Health Behavior News Service (http://www.cfah.org/hbns/). Our aim is to help people act on their own behalf — and on behalf of those they love — to live as well as they can for as long as they can. We hope our resources will be helpful to you.

Tips at http://retirementvillagesnz.info/retirement-villages-in-hamilton on selecting a retirement village in Hamilton 37.7833° S, 175.2833° E The following tips may help you make an informed decision if you are thinking about living in a retirement village Start off by making a list of things you would want in an ideal retirement village in Hamilton. Do not forget to include activities and amenities such as a swimming pool, a library, a hairdresser, health services, restaurants, organised activities and trips. Different villages will offer different services and facilities so make note of what services are offered by different villages as it can get very confusing. Also look to the future and what you may need and the proximity of family and friends. Visit as many of the retirement villages in Hamilton as you can to see what they offer. If there is limited choice nearby, go further afield to get to know what differences are offered as well as the feel of the place. The Retirement Villages Act 2003 requires all retirement villages in New Zealand to be registered. It also defines retirement villages according to their size. Small villages have no more than 34 residential units, while medium-sized villages have at least 35 but no more than 84 residential units. A large retirement village has a minimum of 85 residential units. . Some villages are spread over multiple sites with small groups of houses with a central communal venue for events. If you are considering this type of village, keep in mind that there may be transport issues if not now but in the future. Check to see if the village operators provide bus or transport services. Make time to talk to the existing residents especially during open days that are held. Check out the types of accommodation on offer, talk with existing residents and view their property comparing it to others you have seen. Converse and ask them their likes and dislikes of the village. There may be quieter areas and warmer spots that are out of the prevailing wind. The more questions that you are able to ask will result in more opinions and critical information on what to avoid as much as what to look for. A lot of retirement villages have rest homes and access to hospitals onsite or nearby. Find out if you are able to access or move into the rest home or hospital at a later stage if your health requires it. If there is no medical assistance on site find out how far away it is and what is involved for you to get it. Find out the costs of these medical services before you are committed to it. Home help may be an attractive feature for you but again check out the costs. Look and find how accessible the village units are to mobility and disability needs if you require them in the future. Collect and read all of the information they supply. You should be given a disclosure statement, an occupation right agreement as well as a Code of Residents Rights. Retirement villages in Hamilton should have a statutory supervisor whose job is to oversee the running of the village and you should find out who this is and meet them. Beware of unknown costs to signing up and living in a retirement village in Hamilton. There is often a joining fee before you move in, as well as ongoing fees for the services and facilities. You need to check how much of these fees include the gas, electricity and telephone bills if at all. You may be able to pay for these charges automatically by direct debit on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. There are usually costs associated with leaving the village and you will need to understand these fees which should be fully described in the disclosure statement. Get someone to explain it to you as well as asking the existing residents opinions. Make sure to get financial advice and get your adviser to compare costs for you. Check with them that you can afford the ongoing fees and consider whether you want to leave a financial legacy and if this is still affordable if you move into a village. Determine how much you need to have set aside if you decide to leave the village. . Some residents of retirement villages do qualify for an accommodation supplement through WINZ and also qualify for a rates rebate from the local authority, so get them to enquire if you are eligible for benefits. Your lawyer is required to ensure you fully understand the terms and conditions of the contract before you sign. Take someone with you to help you to understand the details and ask any questions. Ensure that any changes or adjustments to any clauses are recorded in writing Before you make any decision talk to your family and your friends about your plans. They and the executors of your will need to know your intentions and how it will affect them as well as you. Above all make sure that you are happy with your choice of retirement villages in Hamilton and that you talk to your family about your decision. Robot breathes new life into airway repair surgery

04:17
A first-in-the-world procedure is changing how surgeons at Lenox Hill Hospital treat a condition that impacts the airway - tracheobronchomalacia (TBM). Previously treated through open, invasive surgery, TBM affects the trachea and bronchioles, causing a progressive collapse in the airway that impairs breathing. If severe, it can be debilitating. Dr. Richard Lazzaro, chief of thoracic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, performed the world's first minimally invasive, robotic-assisted tracheobronchoplasty in 2014. Now leading one of the world’s largest TBM programs at Lenox Hill Hospital, Dr. Lazzaro and his team have treated more than 50 patients, all of whom would not have otherwise been candidates for surgery. The seaside town of Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture, is home to a remarkable care facility that has recently found its way into the national spotlight, as it specializes in helping sometimes-difficult dementia patients to enjoy rewarding lives. Asking himself what sort of contribution patients in his care can make to their communities, young center manager Tadasuke Kato is known for employing a rather unconventional approach. The essence of his methods, thanks to which over a third of elderly patients show a marked improvement in their condition, is keen attention to care recipients' emotional wellbeing. We focus on an innovative approach to dementia care that is helping patients to realize their forgotten potential.
