How to Know If Your Generic Medicines Are Safe

01:20
Watch more Know Your Medications videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/258363-How-to-Know-If-Your-Generic-Medicines-Are-Safe Save money on your prescriptions and ensure safety by following these guidelines. Step 1: Talk to your doctor Ask your doctor whether there is enough difference between the brand-name and generic medication to warrant requesting "No substitution" on the prescription. Step 2: Talk to your pharmacist Ask your pharmacist if a generic substitution has been AB-rated by the FDA. An AB-rated drug has been determined to be bioequivalent to the branded drug. Step 3: Ask your pharmacist about the generic's manufacturer Ask your pharmacist who the manufacturer of the generic medication is, and where it was manufactured. Tip A generic may not be your least expensive option, especially if you have a drug discount card. Ask your pharmacist or plan administrator if you have questions. Step 4: Report any problems with the medication Talk to your doctor immediately if you experience new side effects or relapses after you begin using a generic substitution. Did You Know? According to a 2008 report from the AARP, a 1 percent increase in generic drug use could save consumers and the health care system up to $4 billion.

Headlines in Health: PPI's and Kidney Disease

04:55
Drs. Vaughan and Carlson discuss the topic of PPIs and Kidney disease. Are Prilosec, Nexium and other PPIs safe and what is the best way to use these medicines in consultation with your doctor? PPI Kidney Injury G:welcome and introduction of Dr. Mark Vaughan of the Auburn Medical Group YouTube Channel M: thanks Dr. Carlson. It's an honor to be on your YouTube channel. I look forward to the conversation we will share and the opportunity it presents for you, our respective subscribers, to learn about The facts behind the sensational headlines. G: there has been quite a bit of media coverage of an article in the February edition of the Journal of the American medical Association internal medicine. It is a study which suggests that a common drug to both of our practices can cause injury to patients’ kidneys. The class of drug is called proton pump inhibitors. Most of you will recognize the names Prilosec and Nexium as popular name brands from this class. Their function is to turn off the acid pump in the stomach to decrease injury from acid inside the digestive tract. These medicines are usually prescribed for patients who have either short-term or long-term overproduction of acid resulting in symptoms ranging from heartburn to stomach ulcers. Now that they are available over-the-counter without a prescription they are used by many patients without any consultation with a physician. M: The article reports on a small study done on data collected during the atherosclerosis risk in communities study which studied over 10 thousand subjects. The results were then replicated by analyzing records of over 240 thousand individuals. They found that patients who used proton pump inhibitor drugs had a significantly higher incidence of chronic kidney disease on a blood test compared to people who did not use these drugs. They also found that there was a significant increase in kidney disease when compared to people who used H2 antagonist drugs. The cutoff they used to delineate between people with and without chronic kidney disease was based on a lab value found on a blood test. There was no requirement that the patients have any symptoms or other noticeable effect on their health to be labeled as having kidney disease. It is expected that the vast majority of these patients will never suffer any significant ill effects apart from this number found on a lab test. G: but that does not give us license to take these drugs willy-nilly. They should still only be used when there is significant benefit over alternative treatments. The simplest is through diet. Many of the problems which respond to this type of medication can be better treated by reducing intake Of fatty foods, alcohol, spicy foods, and acidic foods. Symptoms can also be decreased by eating smaller quantities during meals and not lying down within two hours of eating. If symptoms only occur occasionally, say less than three times per week, occasional use of an over-the-counter antacid can resolve the symptoms. More persistent symptoms may be treated by a doctor using an over the counter H2 antagonist like Zantac. M: without physician supervision, these medicines really should only be taken for a short period, not exceeding two weeks. I will often use these medicines for a 30 day period followed by a recheck. Patients continuing to have symptoms after this treatment are referred to a gastroenterologist for endoscopy. The gastroenterologist will check for serious disorders which can even include cancer of the digestive tract. Most patients do not have a serious disorder and many end up doing best continuing on these medicines long-term. G: we hope this gives you a better understanding of the concerns surrounding the use of proton pump inhibitors and kidney disease. If you are taking these medications for longer than a couple weeks without the supervision of a physician we urge you to make an appointment to discuss it with your doctor. Please be sure to subscribe to my channel and use the card to visit Dr. Vaughan's Auburn Medical Grp channel where you can find over 100 videos on medical topics and demonstrating medical procedures. dr Vaughan, this was great. thanks for being a guest on my channel. M:. Thanks for having me.I loved it. I hope to do more of these in the future. G: and that's Headlines in Health

Acid Reflux Solution: Magnets to the Rescue by Heartburn Center of South Texas Dr. Leah Dill

01:41
Dr. Leah Dill of Heartburn Center of South Texas discusses the latest in Acid Reflux Treatment by LInx. If you know anyone who suffers from acid reflux symptoms, you know all they want is relief. Now it looks like a new surgery can ease the burn...as well as save lives. Steven Huth told Ivanhoe, “And now the heartburn is gone.” For decades, that wasn’t the case for Huth. Acid reflux stole much of his quality of life before surgery brought relief. More Health Headlines WiSE Ways to Treat Heart Failure Pain in the Neck, Striking a Nerve Program uses texting to help people quit smoking Planned Parenthood ends tissue reimbursements Mastectomy Makeover “I can eat anything now,” he said. Steven was fitted with the Linx. It’s a small string of magnetic beads that wraps around the esophagus, letting food pass, but keeping dangerous stomach acid in the stomach. The laparoscopic procedure immediately and permanently relieves acid reflux problems. That’s important, because ongoing acid reflux can erupt into much more serious problems if acid stays in contact with the esophagus. Leah Dill, D.O., Surgeon at Southwest General Hospital in San Antonio, Texas said, “And that long standing irritation can actually lead to pre-cancerous changes of the esophagus called Barrett’s esophagitis.” While many people use proton pump inhibitors like Nexium, they’re not supposed to be used for more than six months. “We’re really starting to see that there’s a lot of damaging effects from taking acid medications long-term,” Dr. Dill explained. When these PPI drugs are taken longer… “What that’s been shown to do is alter the bacteria content in the gut, and it can cause some bacteria overgrowth syndromes. They’ve seen a risk of osteoporosis-related fractures due to decreased mineral absorption after taking these medications,” Dr. Dill said. Drugs like Nexium used to be prescription only, but since they’re now sold over the counter, more people are able to mask their symptoms without a trip to the doctor. Dr. Dill told Ivanhoe, “Now that people are able to self-medicate a little bit easier, we may be missing some of these patients who may then progress to esophageal adenocarcinomas.” Which is one more worry Steve Huth doesn’t have to live with anymore. The Linx is a permanent solution for people with body mass indexes of less than 35. And right now, Medicare covers the cost in most cases, but some private insurance companies do not.

Much 💛 ******************************************************************** Heartburn is a common complaint, and it's one that some people can struggle to get rid of, especially if you have heartburn during pregnancy. The biggest reason for this is that people generally treat the problem with the wrong solution. When we find ourselves with heartburn or acid reflux, the best thing we can do to get rid of it, is to make our stomach's more acidic, as opposed to using antacids to make it less! Heartburn occurs because the stomach is too alkaline to properly breakdown the food we eat. This can force stomach acid back up the oesophagus and cause the burning sensation everyone knows. Stronger stomach acid breaks the food down quicker and allows for better absorption of vitamins and minerals. The easiest home remedies for heartburn is to take 2 capsules of Apple Cider Vinegar before every meal. This will ensure that your heartburn will stay away, forever! ⭐Don't forget to like and subscribe to our channel and check back for more videos just like this one ⭐ ******************************************************************** Let's Connect! 💬 Twitter @thinknathealth 🌵 Instagram @thinknaturalhealth ✉ Email thinknaturalhealth@gmail.com ******************************************************************* ⇢ Links below marked with a "*" are affiliate links - which means I receive a percentage of the revenue made from purchasing products through this link ⇠ Apple Cider Vinegar Capsules US: *http://amzn.to/2BVECqN UK: *http://amzn.to/2BxQRu1 Liver Detox Capsules UK: *http://amzn.to/2BRRVG0 US: *http://amzn.to/2zfXfAm Equipment Used: Microphones 🎤 Boya Lapel Mic UK: *http://amzn.to/2k2keNj US: *http://amzn.to/2zsRbFE Lighting 💡 Neewer Camera Video Lighting Kit UK: *http://amzn.to/2k5MPkX US: *http://amzn.to/2Ac6Exl ******************************************************************** Thanks for watching! x *This content is strictly the opinion Anne and the Think Natural Health team and is for informational and educational purposes only. Ep 19. Top 200 Drugs in 2 Hours Part 1 of 7 Gastrointestinal Pharmacology

14:48
This one-day, two hour seven lecture series provides a basic understanding of how to recognize common drug names, understand the basic classifications, and quickly memorize them for exams. The print, e-book, and audiobooks these lectures are based on, Memorizing Pharmacology: A Relaxed Approach, can be found here https://www.amazon.com/Memorizing-Pharmacology-A-Relaxed-Approach/dp/B01FSR7XZO/ Full Transcript: What I want to do is I want to go through the seven chapters And I'm going to go through them on the board from memory as we get to the later chapters I might just do them ahead of time just to make the clips shorter But these first two clips at least I'm going to do it from memory just to show you that Hopefully after you've read the book you've got it to the point where You're at the instructor's level as an instructor with those 200 drugs I See them all as seven pictures. [I] don't need two hundred note cards I can just do it from memory, and that's where I want you to get to so we'll start with chapter one gastrointestinal And we'll talk about thirteen medications and while I talk about the thirteen medications also [talked] about grouping them and grouping them When you're first learning these top 200 drugs when you group them Students are good at grouping them as okay these are four analgesics and these are Maybe for some kind of stomach upset and then these are for pain But [this] is another level where we're connecting all 200 drugs in one Order so let's start with two drugs that you're probably very familiar with two antacids And then from the antacids we're going to go to the H2 blockers and These are better known as histamine Two Receptor Antagonists So there is a histamine [1] that's the end of histamine you think of when you think of Claritin and things like that [the] Receptor just means that the drug is going to affect the receptor and an Antagonist means it blocks it so histamine [two] must release gastric acid if we're using a drug to block it and then proton pump inhibitors So within each of these categories, I'm going to alphabetize them Because it makes it easier [to] remember Although magnesium is above calcium on the periodic table. We're going to put calcium carbonate first So calcium carbonate is Tums But I also want you to know that it's something called Children's Pepto This is important because regular Pepto has a salicylate component. That's a lot like aspirin and that can be very dangerous in children, especially if a child has Some kind of Chickenpox or fever and things like that and get Reye's syndrome spelled Reye apostrophe "s" There's Magnesium hydroxide And that's Milk of Magnesia So these antacids they work very quickly And because they work quickly what we're going to do for the way that we're going to remember them is These work in a couple minutes. Maybe five minutes These work in about 30 minutes the H2 blockers, and then these work in about a day But antacids are probably the first thing you'll reach for because they work so quickly then if it persists you might go to an H2 blocker and We have two that we're going to use famotidine ranitidine I'm not going to put the brand names yet because I want [you] to notice that there's a -tidine ending t-i-d-i-n-e The first thing I want you to know is that the [een] ine is not the ending a lot of the videos on YouTube show that as the ending just because [20%] of all drugs end in -ine So you don't want to classify it by that. The -tidine has been set by a couple of [organizations] the World Health Organization the United States Adopted Names Council and they're the ones that make this into a group so that it's a -tidine makes it a cimetidine like H2 blocker and cimetidine was the H2 blocker that came out first and So let's put the brand names in there Pepcid Which combines peptic and acid Zantac You can kind of see the word antagonist in there for acid okay, and then to proton pump inhibitors And we're going to see similar ending or that they're going to have similar endings And then I'm going to introduce something new as well there so esomeprazole There's (brand) Nexium (generic) omeprazole (brand) Prilosec, okay so the -prazole ending is what lets us know it's a proton pump inhibitor, but you'll notice we have omeprazole and omeprazole What's the es- what's this doing if you look in and Wiki is a good place to look because it has good pictures of molecules this omeprazole is actually an R- plus S- Where this omeprazole is just an S- what does that mean? There's a left-handed Right or there's a right-handed rectus and left-handed sinister omeprazole, so it's a mixed there's two sides to the molecule and only the S- does anything...

Faith.mpg

03:51
A video for these latter days when faith has become a precious commodity and anxiety over these days becomes almost an everyday event. Look, see that the Lord will provide for your needs, to hell with your wants. Are you worried? Can't cover the mortgage or make that car payment? Has your credit rating pushed you to the verge of suicide? Is your dog getting enough cheese? Blood pressure medicine comes in a tablet, relief comes in the understanding that we are all in God's care, things will work out for us if we trust in Him. This video is meant to get the viewer to see that, by putting trust into the words... of Jesus, you just might not need a prescription for Nexium or Zantac, high blood pressure medication, another credit card, Lunesta or Ambien to help you sleep, Prozac to help you cope or any other worldly indulgence which takes your mind away from the problem. The squirrel turned to us for compassion, he put faith in the fact that there were always peanuts there on our windowsill, he came with that expectation, and we turn to the Lord, asking Him for compassion and mercy, because it is harmonious with our spirit, a design upon our hearts, engraved by the Gods, long before we were ever born. We didn't get much snow so far, but still we have the peanuts. Most of all, we have the faith, and in spite of the way that this changing world with it's shifting values becomes, we find greater comfort in the firm understanding, that all is in much bigger hands, than ours...

APRIL_ADRinfo Zoton Prevacid - lansoprazole

Many every day medicines may cause psychiatric symptoms and severe changes in personality. This movie is to explain where to find the information direct from the manufacturer on the site of the APBI emc (electronic medicines compendium) . Also directions to the official record of reported side effects on the UK medicines regulatory body the MHRA web site (Medicines Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency). They have Drug Analysis Prints (DAPs) of, they say, all the reports they receive using the Yellow Card post-licensing pharmacovigilance system. Patients can now report. Pharmacists and nurses have been allowed to report for just a few years. Doctors should but few do report serious side effects. It is calculated less than 10% of serious adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are ever reported. We have more videos of experts speaking at our conferences and personal experiences at: https://vimeo.com/user1816628 PLEASE NOT THAT YOU SHOULD CONSULT YOUR MEDICAL ADVISOR BEFORE STOPPING ANY TREATMENT - SOME DRUGS SHOULD NOT BE SUDDENLY STOPPED AS YOU MAY SUFFER WITHDRAWAL EFFECTS - GET ADVICE. NO ADVERTISEMENTS THAT APPEAR ON THE SITE OR AFTER THE MOVIE ARE APPROVED BY APRIL.

Can I Drive in Wisconsin While Taking Prescription Drugs?

00:29
http://www.hupy.com/ Our Milwaukee accident attorneys are often asked if it is illegal to drive on prescription medications. Find out if it is legal or illegal by watching this video here. Some people are able to drive perfectly safe while taking one prescription drug like allergy medication. However, if people are taking more than one medication at a time, the combination of different drugs can affect a person's ability to drive safely. Prescriptions drugs and even over-the-counter medications can impair a driver. In fact, people have been arrested for driving under the influence of prescription drugs. In order to avoid this from happening to you, read your medication bottle and talk to your doctor to determine if you can drive or operate heavy equipment while taking medication. If you have been in a Wisconsin auto accident in which you believe another driver was impaired, you may have rights to a financial recovery for your injuries. Call Milwaukee personal injury lawyers Hupy and Abraham at 800.800.5678 for a free consultation or visit our website http://www.hupy.com/practice_areas/wisconsin-auto-accident-attorneys-wi-car-crash-lawyers-il-injury.cfm .

How I Eat Whatever I Want @ 51 without GERD Symptoms or Heartburn

09:04
Chocolate and pizza and caffeine, Oh My! This combination of foods in the same week used to be such a problem for me, especially after I hit 40! If you must know, I have had a few trips to the doctor for strange symptoms that led to extensive, unnecessary tests (i.e., EKG, ECG, etc.), which ultimately led them to ask the million-dollar question, "What did you eat before you experienced these symptoms, Mrs. Gray?" One doctor was even scared that I had pancreatitis, which was crazy to him because I don't drink. As a result, I was prescribed Nexium, which worked immediately, but every time I would go on vacation and over-indulge, other similar, strange symptoms would appear, and doctors would recommend Prilosec. Because it worked so quickly, AND because I like to eat what I want, I began to abuse it. Drugs like these are too dangerous to abuse, so I asked the Lord to give me a permanent solution to keep me away from them AND to still allow me to eat whatever the heck I want. Praise the Lord, He did, AND it has been working for over two years! I can eat all the pizza and chocolate I want, for better or for worse (LOL - I'm now working to lose 10 pounds as a result). Wanna hear how I do it? Tune in to find out all the life-changing details! www.YourBestAtAnyAge.com

Grace Ku: "OneBody Massage: Low Tech High Intelligence Connection" | Talks at Google

52:15
As we design and build tools for connection, exactly what are we searching for? What kind of connection has real meaning be it internal or external? Can a simple touch foster that deep meaningful connection we crave? Google massage therapist Grace Ku believes that through massage, love and intention we can all learn to communicate better with one another, and of course also learn to move deeper into dialogue with our own bodies. We can help each other to fend off the warping influence of stress, worry and fear, limit technological overreach into our psyches, and bring joyousness into our days.
