Gabapentin: Neurontin

18:58
Lyrica and its relative Neurontin or gabapentin are widely overprescribed for pain related disorders. Although approved for treating pain after shingles, evidence for their benefit remains quite sketchy. Gabapentin now ranks as one of the top drugs of abuse with at least 50% or people abusing opioids like hydrocodone and oxycodone simultaneously taking these “johnnies” or “gabbies.” In fatal drug overdoses, gabapentin often appears as a contributing factor.

Gabapentin/Neurontin Review

07:05
Gabapentin/Neurontin, is a medication used primarily for seizure disorders and pain associated with the nerves. It can be used for nerve pain related to the herpes virus or shingles. It is also commonly used by diabetics who have suffered nerve pain. I find that this medication continues to work wonder for me, even after daily use for 3+ years. It helps prevent my migraines (at least it seems to) and once I have one, it helps the dull the pain. It also has help with occasional back pain problems. It has been a life saver for my insomnia. I am able to cope better with my day to day task because this medication helps me cope with my Clinical Depression, of which has haunted me since the passing of my father. There is no such thing as a miracle pill or a miracle cure for anything, but this medication has been a huge help for me over the years. Thanks for reading/watching my video.

How Long Should I Take Gabapentin For Nerve Pain | Gabapentin Nerve Pain Dosage Subscribe To Get New Videos Daily: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi1zZ8_Q7yqKInXImLCLfXw First, we must consider the different neuropathic pain types. Neuropathic pain can be diverse in nature, encompassing a wide range of pain types, including post-herpetic neuralgia, painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and painful cancer-related neuropathies. Gabapentin has been shown to be beneficial in treating several types of neuropathic pain; however, the mechanism of action by which gabapentin exerts its analgesic effect is still unknown. It is suggested that gabapentin may block the calcium channel alpha delta receptor in the brain. This protein-modulated receptor is involved in excitatory synapse formation. Therefore, the therapeutic effects of gabapentin may be attributed to prevention of new synapse formations. Gabapentin was shown to offer substantial improvement in neuropathic pain with side effects that were similar to those on placebo. Even with sufficient data supporting the use of gabapentin in the treatment of various neuropathic pain conditions, gabapentin only has Food and Drug Administration approval for PHN. Dosing recommendations for off-label use of gabapentin can be somewhat ambiguous, if a recommendation exists at all. Therefore, several studies further investigate dosing regimens specific to other neuropathic pain syndromes. Gabapentin Dosing Considerations: Three gabapentin products are FDA approved to treat PHN. The different formulations cannot be interchanged and each has its own dosing schedule. For immediate-release gabapentin, dosing may be initiated with 300 mg on day 1, doubled on day 2, and tripled on day 3 . The dose can then be titrated up as needed for pain relief to a maximum dose of 1,800 mg daily. Clinical studies referenced in the package insert state that efficacy for a range of doses from 1,800 mg/day to 3,600 mg/day were observed; however, there was no additional benefit seen with doses greater than 1,800 mg/d. Gralise is an extended-release gabapentin formulation that also is FDA approved for PHN with a titration schedule that begins with 300 mg on day 1; 600 mg on day 2; 900 mg on days 3 to 6; 1,200 mg on days 7 to 10; 1,500 mg on days 11 to 14; and 1,800 mg on day 15 and thereafter. The third gabapentin formulation for PHN treatment is another extended-release product, Horizant. The starting dose is 600 mg in the morning for 3 days, increased to 600 mg twice daily on day 4 and thereafter. A daily dose of Horizant greater than 1,200 mg provided no additional benefit at the expense of side effects. Breaking it Down. How Gabapentin REALLY works on your brain & CNS

14:07
I list 15 functions regulated by the Central Nervous System. Have ANY of these 15 functions been affected in YOUR central nervous system since you began taking Gabapentin/Neurontin or Lyrica/Pregabalin ? I also believe that the medical community is trying to BLAME ADDICTS for the problems associated with Gabapentin use. Which is only a distraction as Gabapentin hurts anyone who takes it sooner or later. Stop blaming addicts for everything. However, addicts are EASY TARGETS so that is why they are being blamed. Gabapentin is causing addicts deaths at alarming & in unprecedented numbers so STOP blaming addicts for "ruining" it for people who do not suffer from addiction. Because it is simply UNTRUE. I did get one wrong near the end. Conceptual Thoughts I characterized incorrectly. The behavior I described IS typical of Gabapentin or Lyrica. But it is NOT owing to conceptual thoughts. My error. I also realized only today that I repeated #13. Visual & auditory recollection. Aka impaired memory. On #13 visual & auditory recollection I completely forgot I had already said it moments earlier & I repeated it moments later. THUS, I REST MY CASE ON #13. 🙄 (Incidentally I had not planned on mentioning my Chanel Purse. lol But it had popped into my mind because I had got my Chanel purse out earlier that day. I had removed the gold chain strap to it several years ago when I was still very sick with the severe dementia/Alzheimer's side effects being induced by the Gabapentin. I had put it in a "safe place" at that time. When as part of the severe dementia/Alzheimers side effects I was also experiencing extreme paranoia. I apparently hid the gold chain in a place so "safe" that I STILL haven't found it to this day. I had been looking for it before I made this video. LOL This is a regular occurrence actually. I am probably always going to be finding items from my life. This is what happens to a brain & a mind that was shattered by Gabapentin. I also became a hoarder on Gabapentin. Still cleaning out parts of that mess as well.) Learn how to taper off of Gabapentin SAFELY in the group I created on Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/groups/1993737760642856/

Neurontin To Treat Adults with Nerve Pain Caused by Shingles - Overview

00:51
http://www.rxwiki.com/neurontin https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXxn_pCvHVm5rtYCS2sLMNQ2j1LWbE0_L Neurontin, the brand name form of gabapentin, is a prescription medication used to treat adults with nerve pain caused by shingles. Shingles is a painful rash that is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the virus that also causes chickenpox. Neurontin is also used in combination with other medications to treat partial seizures. Neurontin belongs to a group of drugs called anticonvulsants, which help treat seizures by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain. It also works by altering the way the body senses pain. This medication comes in tablet, capsule, and oral (by mouth) solution forms and is taken up to 3 times a day, with or without food. The capsules are taken with a full glass of water. Common side effects of Neurontin include dizziness, lack of coordination, and drowsiness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Neurontin affects you.

Abuse on the rise of prescription drug gabapentin, known as 'Johnnys' - WXYZ 12-09-2017

03:34
Neurontin, Gabapentin and Lyrica is a Death sentence to new brain synapses and can lead to suicidal thoughts http://fibromyalgiaresources.com/neurontin-lyrica-death-sentence-new-brain-synapses/ and http://medsnews.com/health/neurontin-and-lyrica-two-treatments-for-pain-that-can-lead-to-suicidal-thoughts/ If you aren’t on this medication, chances are you know someone who is. It’s used to treat everything from pain to mood disorders and can be just what the doctor ordered for many. But now, there is mounting research uncovering misuse of and even a black market for this popular prescription. We’re talking about gabapentin. It’s approved for some types of seizures and nerve pain. Doctors also use it off-label to treat everything from insomnia to migraines to anxiety. Sixty-four million prescriptions of it were sold in the U.S. in 2016, up more than 60% from four years earlier. The thing is, experts say there is growing evidence it’s being abused, too. It’s even being sold on the streets under the name “Johnnys.” Dr. Joseph Insler, an addiction psychiatrist, says he’s seeing it all too often. “Sometimes, I've even experienced patients ask me for their “Johnnys” and then they'll, maybe, catch themselves and say, ‘No, no, no. I mean gabapentin',” he says. Why is this prescription being misused? “I think that some individuals may say that they use it to get high, and others may say they use it and get a drowsy effect. So, we're talking about the euphoria versus sedation, “ says Rachel Vickers Smith, Ph.D. Dr Vickers Smith wrote her dissertation on gabapentin abuse when studying drug abusers in Appalachia. “We found a nearly 3000 percent increase from 2008 to about 2014 in individuals reporting gabapentin abuse for the purposes of getting high,” she says. We wanted to see for ourselves, so we searched online. We easily found people talking about taking “Johnnys”, or gabapentin, to get high. There were also threads of people trying to spread awareness about the abuse. Experts say gabapentin is typically misused by substance abusers who mix it with other drugs. But, Dr. Insler says it’s also possible for people with legitimate prescriptions to misuse, too. He says, “If somebody’s taking excessively high doses or needing early refills” or if their mood changes, family members or clinicians should see these signs as red flags. A growing body of research shows the problem of abuse, especially among substance abusers is clear. But some experts also worry about the number of prescriptions being handed out. A recent New England Journal of Medicine letter warned that “clinicians who are desperate for alternatives to opioids” are “increasingly prescribing gabapentin” and that “evidence suggests that some patients misuse, abuse or divert gabapentin.” http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp1704633?rss=mostEmailed&#t=article Dr Rachel Vickers Smith says, “ I think that's why it's really important to get out the message,” about abuse, in general. Gabapentin is not a controlled substance or scheduled drug on the Federal level. We reached out to several government agencies. There was little information on potential abuse although the National Institute on Drug Abuse pointed us to existing research and the DEA says it is beginning to receive calls. Dr Vickers Smith says, “ I don't think that gabapentin abuse is on the CDC, DEA’s, NIDA’s radar, in part because we had this opioid epidemic.” All experts we talked to stress that this is NOT the next opioid epidemic, but they believe gabapentin abuse is something to watch closely and believe more research is needed. We contacted two of the manufacturers of gabapentin, including Pfizer, which told us, “Gabapentin is an important treatment option for their approved indications”.

Gabapentin Dosage For Nerve Pain | What Every Patient Should Know

06:44
Gabapentin Dosage For Nerve Pain | What Every Patient Should Know Subscribe To Get New Videos Daily: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi1zZ8_Q7yqKInXImLCLfXw Neuropathic pain is a chronic debilitating pain syndrome that is complex to treat. Current medication management for neuropathic pain includes select neuromodulating agents such as anticonvulsants, serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, and certain opioids. Gabapentin remains among the most commonly used anticonvulsants for neuropathic pain. The established therapeutic dosing for gabapentin in neuropathic pain trials is 1800-3600 mg/day in 3 divided doses in patients with normal renal function. This means the minimum effective dose is 600 mg 3 times a day. Renal adjustments are recommended in patients with CrCl below 60 mL/min. For patients on dialysis, gabapentin can often be 3 times weekly following dialysis. Several cross-sectional studies have reported gabapentin being used in subtherapeutic doses among most patients. In a retrospective analysis of 939 patients with post-herpetic neuralgia, the mean daily dose of gabapentin was 826 mg. In another 2-year retrospective study of 151 veterans with various neuropathic pain syndromes, the median daily dose for gabapentin was 900 mg. In both studies, the most prevalent gabapentin dosing was half the therapeutic dosing. What Every Patient Should Know: Patients should be aware of the therapeutic dosing for neuropathic pain to establish realistic expectations and improve compliance and likelihood of remaining on therapy. The conversation may be as follows: “Gabapentin may reduce nerve pain at 600 mg 3 times a day but patients usually start on a low dose to make sure they tolerate it and is then increased slowly to give the body a chance to get used to it. Gabapentin Abuse: Despite its therapeutic role in neuropathic pain, gabapentin produces psychoactive effects and has an abuse liability. Gabapentin abuse typically involves taking higher doses in a single administration. In conclusion, pharmacists as medication experts are well-poised to educate prescribers and patients on therapeutic dosing of gabapentin to optimize its rational and appropriate use for treating neuropathic pain. GABAPENTIN, NEURONTIN & LYRICA- WHEN MEDS CAN KILL YOU

06:57
No evidence that proves Gabapentin helps people with bipolar disorder. If there is a clinical trial that was ever done that proves the efficacy of using Gabapentin to treat bipolar disorder I have never been able to locate it. There IS evidence however that Neurontin (which gabapentin is the generic form ) induces suicidal ideation and increases the risk of suivide. Is this a drug that should be given to bipolar patients? A drug that artificially induces depression by tamping down the synapses so that the neurons are no longer receiving electrical signals from the synapses? When the central nervous system is suppressed any function of the CNS has the possibility of becoming affected. Which is why so many bizarre side effects are occurring from these drugs. Which physicians in turn are telling their patients cannot possibly be related or a side effect of gabapentin or Neurontin or Lyrica. But they ARE related. Although more than likely it will be ascribed to another NEW & SEPARATE disorder. When in reality-because your central nervous system ceases to work properly on this drug. I almost died from respiratory failure on gabapentin. Because the respiratory system is controlled my the central nervous system. As far as Gabapentin & Lyrica being used to treat pain, the protocols for treating pain with Lyrica and Gabapentin were developed by a physician who later went to prison for his completely falsified "research". Yet those protocols have never been rescinded and are still being used today. I have included the links to this info. Take these drugs at your own risk. And be warned that WHEN you begin to experience side affects (and you will at some point) your physician will most likely dismiss the link to Gabapentin & Lyrica AND they will not tell you of Gabapentin withdrawals. Over a year after being off of Gabapentin I still suffer from dystonia, Hypertonia, as well as several other neuro movement disorders that may be permanent. I was also advised by my pharmacy to just stop taking it. Which could have killed me. In addition to making my movement disorders induced by these drugs as possibly being permanent. You are not getting the full story on these drugs. Hopefully someday this drug will be exposed for the reality of it being the big pharmaceutical hoax that it is. Snake oil. But until then, be proactive. Do your research. And if you decide to stop taking it -a slow taper off is necessary or you can easily be left with a wide variety of side effects or movement disorders that will cause you to suffer years later. WHY are bipolar patients be given drugs that induce suicidal feelings? If you are taking Gralise, take with the evening meal and swallow whole. To receive the greatest benefit, do not miss doses. If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. If you have never taken gabapentin before, take your first dose at bedtime to avoid the feelings of tiredness and dizziness. Some common side effects with gabapentin include dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness, weakness, loose stools, nausea and vomiting. Some less common side effects include headache, abnormal thinking, swelling of the arms or legs, and weight gain. While taking gabapentin, remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if: • You have signs of an allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling, tightness of the chest, etc.) • You have signs of liver problems (dark urine, feeling tired, upset stomach, light-colored stools, or yellow skin or eyes • You have signs of kidney problems (unable to pass urine, changes in how much urine is passed, blood in urine, or large weight gain) • You have memory problems or memory loss • You experience changes in eyesight, are feeling confused, or experience shakiness, shortness of breath, feeling very tired or weak, twitching, muscle pain or weakness • To stop taking gabapentin because this medication should not be abruptly discontinued because of the possibility of increasing seizure frequency; therapy should be withdrawn gradually unless safety concerns require a more rapid withdrawal. Abrupt discontinuation with gabapentin has been associated with anxiety, diarrhea, headache, excessive sweating, sleeplessness, and nausea. Gabapentin tablets and capsules need to be stored at room temperature in a dry place. Gabapentin liquid needs to be stored in the refrigerator. Use the measuring device received from the pharmacist or doctor for the oral solution.

How to Quit Gabapentin (Neurontin)

09:43
Yeah, yeah - I know, I forgot to wear my fake tooth. Blame it on the gabapentin, lol! This video details how I am kicking gabapentin by tapering off of it in small increments. My prescribed dosage is 3600 mg daily in four 900 mg doses. I've gradually reduced from that to less than 100 mg per dose. As of making this video, I'm at 100 - 150 mg per day. I hope to be free of it in another week or two. The main thing is to taper off slowly; drop the doses down too quickly, and the withdrawal symptoms can be just hell to go through! I tried quitting it cold turkey a couple of times, but the pain and other side effects were WORSE than the neuropathic pain I was taking the pills for. I've been on a plant based diet (maybe 95% plant based, and over 90% raw) for several months now, and the neuropathy is slowly reversing, to the point where I don't need gabapentin to mask the pain any longer. I just need to be off the drug. After almost 20 years being a type 2 diabetic, I've managed to turn the condition around and get off all my diabetes meds as well. Looking forward to the return of complete health! I'm using a pill cutter to cut my 600 mg tablets into smaller pieces, such as the following: 300 mg 150 mg 75 (ish) mg 30-40 (ish) mg 15-20 (ish) mg kind of hard to cut them smaller than that, but I think I have them small enough. It's easy enough to take a 150 mg sized piece with a 75 mg sized piece to make a 225 mg dose. Just add the appropriate sized pieces together to get the dosage where you want it. And remember, a pill cutter is not a precision device, so all you can really do is estimate the size of the pieces you've cut. But hey - it's better than a kick in the backside with a hard shoe, right! I made a follow up video showing how I precut the pills for tapering off. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7u0pJicj9U&t=12s For a look at some 'fun' withdrawal symptoms, check out this video at https://youtu.be/zNxh8bV5OKA and read through the comments of some of the people telling about the hell they've been going through trying to get off the stuff. Some of them even have had their own doctors lie to them and tell them gabapentin isn't addictive! Ha! Big Pharma and friends...

I was prescribed these medications for diabetic neuropathy and for severe pain caused from Guillain-Barre (GBS) and conversion disorder. Gabapentin for dogs: is it a dog pain killer that works?

05:58
When it comes to finding a dog pain killer that works, what about giving your dog gabapentin? Is it a true pain killer and replacement for the more commonly used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain killers like rimadyl? Or is it like tramadol which works well in people but not in dogs? Get your free copy of my pain monitoring chart to make sure your pet is as comfortable as possible: https://ourpetshealth.com/pain-monitoring-chart-for-dogs Gabapentin is a human drug that is used to treat some seizures and nerve related pain.  We don't know exactly how gabapentin works, although it appears to reduce the release of excitatory neurotransmitters. If a pain signal is blocked from reaching the brain then the result will be a reduction in pain. Gabapentin acts on the nerves themselves unlike some other pain killers like the non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs). Neuropathic pain is essentially pain that is generated by the nerves themselves and results in 2 main conditions.  The first of these is known as hyperalgesia which is an increased sensitivity to pain. The second condition is allodynia and is where something that is not normally painful becomes painful. The good news is that this pain wind up is reversible, although it can take several months.  Our standard pain killers in dogs and cats, the NSAIDs, will help with this.  Gabapentin though can also be used to help your dog or cat become pain free faster, or where our non-steroidals are not enough by themselves. Gabapentin may well also play a useful role in helping keep our pets comfortable after surgery or injury but should probably not be used by itself. Gabapentin is a very safe drug with few side effects to be concerned about.  The most common side effects of gabapentin in dogs and cats are sedation and wobbliness.  Some animals may also develop vomiting. The biggest danger with giving gabapentin is using a human liquid formulation that contains xylitol. What Medications Did I Take and Find Helpful for My Disc Bulge?

04:24
Over the long journey of suffering from lower back pain, I've been through more than a handful of medications and I have found some helpful and others not so helpful. In this video, I explain several of the medications that I took and the one's that I found most helpful. The biggest thing with a disc bulge injury is that the disc that is protruding places pressure on the nerve roots. Ultimately, this results in a sharp pain and inflammation will eventually build up around the injured area. In order to treat the symptoms of pain and inflammation, their are several medications that may be prescribed to an individual. In my case, I was prescribed several different medications including Ibuprofen, Lyrica, Nucynta, Tylenol 3, and novo-moloxicam. The medications I found to be most effective and helpful for treating my symptoms of pain and inflammation were Ibuprofen and Tylenol 3. Also, I found Lyrica to be somewhat helpful at times as well. As for the other medications, I didn't' find them as helpful but that could of been for a number of reasons such as the dosage not being high enough. Additionally, in this video, I explain some of the side effects I experienced with taking several of these drugs including Lyrica. Lyrica

Heavily promoted as treatment for painful diabetic neuropathy and fibromyalgia, Lyrica advertisements blanket the airways. While some studies demonstrate a small benefit when compared to an inactive placebo, others fail to show any difference. Significant complications include dizziness, sleepiness and weight gain. Suicidal thoughts and altered vision are not infrequent side effects. For cash payers the daily cost may exceed $16.

What is Lyrica? – With Alternative Medicine That Helps!

04:21
Click on the link below for a free video guide to dietary supplements and alternative medicine! http://utahtexans.com/ In this video I'm going to go over what lycrica is and how it's used. I'm also going to share a few alternative medicine that can also help. Before I get started down below is a link where I”m giving away a free video guide to dietary supplements and alternative medicine! Lycrica is a prescription drug without insurance if you went down to Rite Aid the cost for 30 capsules at 150 milligrams would be around $150 dollars. What it's used for is to help with fibromyalgia, which causes a lot of pain in muscles, it helps control seizures and to treat nerve damage. If your wondering how someone gets nerve damage, Anything from diabetes, shingles or a spinal chord injury can cause it. How exactly the drug works is unclear, but one theory is that it decreases the number of nerve signals and thus relaxes over sensitive nerve cells. Like all prescription drugs there is always a risk. One large risk is that it's going to create a bunch of free radicals as your body breaks it down. Free radicals do contribute to a lot of health problems, create wrinkles and possibly cancer. Other common side effects would be insomnia, depression and dizziness. Apart from this drug one alternative medicine that could help would be to take a good multivitamin supplement. A lot of the B vitamins play a big role in the nervous system and being deficient in 1 could cause some big problems. There is also a big connection between vitamin D and fibromyalgia. For example a study lead by Dr. Florian Wepner of orthopedic hospital Vienna took 30 women with fibromyalgia and low levels of vitamin D. Some of the women took a vitamin D supplement and some didn't. 50 weeks later the women that took a supplement received less pain and morning fatigue. Also consuming more omega 3 fats such as with a supplement does have a direct impact on the nervous system. In a study published in the 2005 issue of Epilepsy Behavior suggest that omega 3 supplements could reduce the frequency of seizures. Lastly warm baths, exercise, keeping blood sugar under control and messages might help as well. There really are tons of more options. If you are interested in more alternative medicine and supplements and how they can help I highly encourage you to check out a free video guide I created. It goes over the 10 signs a supplement should be avoided. Ingredients you want to avoid and a whole lot more. You can learn more by clicking on the link below this video.

Drug Withdrawal: Some doctors prescribe Gabapentin to persons undergoing drug rehabilitation to combat some of the withdrawal symptoms that they are experiencing. Sadly, some people end up shifting their addiction to Gabapentin instead. Accessibility: Being non-narcotic Gabapentin is not classified as a controlled substance by the FDA. Thus, anyone can obtain it with a simple prescription from their doctor. Lesser Side Effects: While Gabapentin may have lesser side effects compared to other drugs, it worth noting that there still have been instances where patients died due to overdose. Gabapentin is seen as a miracle drug by some people experiencing seizures and epilepsies. Some may have found a recreational use for it; however, it is still highly unadvisable to abuse it.
