7 Foods To Avoid When You Have Type 2 Diabetes

04:45
Type 2 diabetes is a lifelong condition that, according to a recent study, is the most common form of diabetes. In this particular type of diabetes, a person’s body becomes incapable of making or using insulin in an effective way. This phenomenon is also referred to as insulin resistance. And that is why, it is also known as non-insulin dependent diabetes. Also, as you can imagine, people suffering from this type have a high level of blood sugar. The case of insulin resistance can get worse if a person has extra body fat. That is why, it is highly imperative to steer clear from food items that are loaded with saturated fats and they should exercise on a regular basis to keep body weight under check. So, today we’ve curated a list of certain types of foods that you must steer clear of if you’ve type 2 diabetes. These foods can raise the level of bad cholesterol and increase insulin resistance. And people who have this type of diabetes are at a high risk of developing heart-related problems. Staying away from these foods and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial for one’s health and well-being. So, take a look at the types of food you must avoid if you have type 2 diabetes, here. 1. Sugar Sugar is a strict no-no for any diabetes patient, be it type 1 or 2. Foods like cookies, soda, etc., can raise the blood sugar level. So, avoid food items that have a high content of sugar in them to keep your blood sugar level in check. 2. Full-fat Dairy Products People suffering from type 2 diabetes have insulin that is resistant in performing the body functions like breakdown of glucose. And food products that have a high level of saturated fats in them are considered to exacerbate this problem. And that is why, it is advised to stay away from curd, cheese, etc. 3. Raisins Dried fruits like raisins are a great source of healthy nutrients and minerals, but they also have a high content of sugar in them. So, avoid them to keep your blood sugar level regulated. 4. Processed Meat People suffering from type 2 diabetes have a higher chance of developing heart diseases. And consumption of processed meat can increase that risk, as it can raise the cholesterol level and exacerbate the risk factors of this type of diabetes. 5. Baked Foods Baked food items have a certain kind of fat in them that can increase the level of bad cholesterol. Moreover, they are high in calories. Consuming baked food items on a regular basis can increase the case of insulin resistance. 6. Alcohol Very few people are aware of the fact that the organ that plays an important role in balancing the ratio of blood sugar and insulin is the liver. And it is well known that consuming alcohol is not good for the liver. So, cut down on the quantity of alcohol you consume to stay healthy. 7. Fried Foods Fried food items are loaded with saturated fats. Consuming such foods can cause an individual to gain extra weight, which can further exacerbate the case of insulin resistance. So, these are foods that you must avoid at any cost if you have type 2 diabetes. Diabetes Type 2 vs Type 1

07:01
Get our diabetes management guide here https://goo.gl/pHG8s9 We hear the term “diabetes” and automatically think we know what it is, right? Well, those of us with diabetes probably do know that there are 2 or maybe 3 depending how you want to classify it, types of diabetes. Some will call prediabetes a form of diabetes, and I guess that is true, kind of like pre-school is kind of like school. Then there are Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. And don’t forget about gestational diabetes. We will talk briefly about that one at the end. In this video, I will attempt to give you the similarities and differences in each as well some possible causes. Diabetes affects approximately 30 million Americans today. That is nearly 10% of the population. Diabetes is a disorder of the endocrine system. With diabetes, blood sugar levels stay high because either the pancreas can no longer produce enough insulin or the cells of the body are resistant to insulin and the pancreas can’t keep up. Either way, the glucose or sugar level in the blood stream becomes too high and the body cannot function properly. Pre-Diabetes In the U.S., 79 million people over age 20 have blood glucose levels that are above the normal range, but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. This is known as pre-diabetes. It is also known as impaired glucose tolerance. This type of diabetes is difficult to diagnose because most people with pre-diabetes usually have no symptoms. But pre-diabetes is almost always present before a person develops type 2 diabetes. Without symptomology however, it is hard to diagnose because most people don’t go see a doctor if they have no symptoms of a disease. Complications normally associated with diabetes, such as heart disease, can begin to develop even when a person has pre-diabetes. In general, people who have a fasting plasma blood glucose in the 100-125 mg/dl range are defined as having impaired fasting glucose or pre-diabetes. Like many diseases, early detection can be very good. Talk to your doctor about testing for pre-diabetes. You may be able to prevent type 2 diabetes Type 1 Diabetes This used to be called juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes. Type 1 diabetes occurs because the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas are actually destroyed by the immune system. Type 1 diabetes is actually considered an autoimmune disease. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent Type 1, and—at present—nothing you can do to get rid of it. Type 1 diabetes most commonly starts in people under the age of 20, but may occur at any age. According to the Mayo Clinic, the most common symptoms of Type 1 are: Increased thirst Frequent urination Bedwetting in children who previously didn't wet the bed during the night Extreme hunger Unintended weight loss Irritability and other mood changes Fatigue and weakness Blurred vision In females, a vaginal yeast infection There is no cure for Type 1 and it cannot be reversed. To determine diabetes, a blood sample will be taken after an overnight fast. A fasting blood sugar level less than 100 is normal. A fasting blood sugar level from 100 to 125 is considered prediabetes. If it's 126 or higher on two separate tests, you have diabetes. If you're diagnosed with diabetes, the doctor may do other tests to distinguish between type 1 and type 2 diabetes — since the two conditions often require different treatments. Type 2 Diabetes According to Web MD, with type 2 diabetes, the body continues to produce insulin, although insulin production by the body may significantly decrease over time. The pancreas produces either not enough insulin, or the body is unable to recognize insulin and use it properly. When there isn't enough insulin or the insulin is not used as it should be, glucose can't get into the body's cells to be used as energy. This glucose then builds up in the blood. This condition was once known adult-onset or noninsulin-dependent diabetes. More common in adults, type 2 diabetes increasingly affects children as childhood obesity increases. There's no cure for type 2 diabetes, but you may be able to manage the condition by eating well, exercising and maintaining a healthy weight. If diet and exercise aren't enough to manage your blood sugar well, you also may need diabetes medications or insulin therapy.

Management of diabetes mellitus type 1 - One health

05:51
Diabetes Mellitus - Management of diabetes mellitus type 1 - One health 👉👉👉 Get It Here: http://tinyurl.com/lydyceh 👈👈👈 Management of diabetes mellitus type 1 Lifestyle A low-carbohydrate diet, in addition to medications, is useful in type 1 DM. There are camps for children to teach them how and when to use or monitor their insulin without parental help. As psychological stress may have a negative effect on diabetes, a number of measures have been recommended including: exercising, taking up a new hobby, or joining a charity among others. Insulin There are four main types of insulin: rapid acting insulin, short acting insulin, intermediate acting insulin, and long acting insulin. The rapid acting insulin is used as a bolus dosage. The action onsets in 15 minutes with peak actions in 30 to 90 minutes. Short acting insulin action onsets within 30 minutes with the peak action around 2 to 4 hours. Intermediate acting insulin action onsets within 1 to 2 hours with peak action of 4 to 10 hours. Long acting insulin is usually given once per day. The action onset is roughly 1 to 2 hours with a sustained action of up to 24 hours. Injections of insulin either via subcutaneous injection or insulin pump— are necessary for those living with type 1 diabetes because it cannot be treated by diet and exercise alone. In addition to insulin therapy dietary management is important. This includes keeping track of the carbohydrate content of food and careful monitoring of blood glucose levels using glucose meters. Today, the most common insulins are biosynthetic products produced using genetic recombination techniques; formerly, cattle or pig insulins were used, and even sometimes insulin from fish.Untreated type 1 diabetes can commonly lead to diabetic ketoacidosis which is a diabetic coma which can be fatal if untreated. Diabetic ketoacidosis can cause cerebral edema (accumulation of liquid in the brain). This is a life-threatening issue and children are at a higher risk for cerebral edema than adults, causing ketoacidosis to be the most common cause of death in pediatric diabetes. Treatment of diabetes focuses on lowering blood sugar or glucose (BG) to the near normal range, approximately 80 to140 mg/dl (4.4 to 7.8 mmol/L). The ultimate goal of normalizing BG is to avoid long-term complications that affect the nervous system (e.g. peripheral neuropathy leading to pain and/or loss of feeling in the extremities), and the cardiovascular system (e.g. heart attacks, vision loss). This level of control over a prolonged period of time can be varied by a target HbA1c level of less than 7.5%. People with type 1 diabetes always need to use insulin, but treatment can lead to low BG (hypoglycemia), i.e. BG less than 70 mg/dl (3.9 mmol/l). Hypoglycemia is a very common occurrence in people with diabetes, usually the result of a mismatch in the balance among insulin, food and physical activity. Mild cases are self-treated by eating or drinking something high in sugar. Severe cases can lead to unconsciousness and are treated with intravenous glucose or injections with glucagon. Continuous glucose monitors can alert patients to the presence of dangerously high or low blood sugar levels, but technical issues have limited the effect these devices have had on clinical practice. As of 2016 an artificial pancreas looks promising with safety issues still being studied. Pancreas transplantation In some cases, a pancreas transplant can restore proper glucose regulation. However, the surgery and accompanying immunosuppression required may be more dangerous than continued insulin replacement therapy, so is generally only used with or some time after a kidney transplant. Why You Need to Monitor Your Blood Sugar for Diabetes - One Health

Diabetes Mellitus - Why You Need to Monitor Your Blood Sugar for Diabetes - One Health 👉👉👉 Get It Here: http://tinyurl.com/lydyceh 👈👈👈 Why You Need to Monitor Your Blood Sugar for Diabetes Testing your blood sugar level at home helps you gauge how well you're managing your diabetes. How can you tell if your diabetes management plan is working? Monitor your blood sugar at home. Daily testing with a computerized glucose meter tells you whether your diet, exercise regimen, and medication are working -- or need adjustment. In-home blood glucose tests can also alert you to dangerous spikes or dips in your blood sugar level. When to Test Your Blood Sugar You may or may not need to test your blood sugar every day. It depends on the type of diabetes you have, how long you've had it, and how well it's controlled. Ask your doctor for a personalized daily schedule. This might include testing before or after meals or exercise, before bedtime or upon waking, or additional testing on days when you're ill or highly stressed. How to Test Your Blood Sugar Keep a daily log of your readings, follow the instructions in your user manual, and use these guidelines to ensure accurate readings: Wash your hands before testing. Make sure glucose meter and test strip are at room temperature. Make sure test strip hasn't expired. Calibrate your meter for the current box of test strips. Make sure the drop of blood you draw is large enough. Types of Blood Glucose Meters You can choose from a variety of glucose meters. They're all fairly equal in accuracy, but vary in cost, ease-of-use, and features. Some meters have memory to store your results. Others require fewer steps to get a reading. The newest meter to hit the market provides an automated log for insulin doses and blood sugar level readings, along with software that tracks your progress and transmits your readings to your doctor. Ask your doctor for a recommendation and check with your insurance company to make sure the meter you buy is covered under your plan. Life with Diabetes - One Health

08:07
Diabetes Mellitus - Life with Diabetes - One Health 👉👉👉 Get It Here: http://tinyurl.com/lydyceh 👈👈👈 Life with Diabetes FINDING EASIER WAYS No doubt, diabetes can be hard on your health and how well you feel. But it can also play a big role in other parts of your life, such as your marriage, your finances, and your emotional well-being. You may feel angry one day, sad the next. You may worry how others will treat you—and wonder if they even need to know you have diabetes. Dealing with diabetes every day isn’t easy. But you can make it easier. Here are 9 ways diabetes can affect your life and how you can manage them. MANAGING THE COSTS Most people with diabetes spend two to three times more money on medical care than people without diabetes. If you have diabetes, your healthcare costs will be about $11,744 each year—and over half of that will be due to diabetes. In fact, you're likely to see your expenses go up by about $4,174 in the first year after you're diagnosed. That can be hard on your finances. How you manage the cost of your diabetes care will depend on your health insurance coverage, income, and other life circumstances. To keep stress at a minimum, talk to your diabetes educator or doctor about ways to save money while getting the care you need. DEALING WITH STRESS Managing a chronic disease like diabetes is challenging. "Many people get stressed out because their expectations aren’t realistic," says John Zrebiec, MSW, CDE, chief of the mental health clinic at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. "They expect they’re going to be perfect and lose a lot of weight very quickly, or that their sugars will be perfect." Minimize stress by setting realistic goals. Then focus on the rewards of your actions, such as having more energy and control. Be sure to get support from other people, too. Involve family, friends, or a support group in your quest to reach your goals. PROTECTING YOUR MARRIAGE Being diagnosed with diabetes is life-altering—not just for the person with diabetes, but also for loved ones and caregivers. "Those we love don’t always react to our diabetes the way that we hope they will," says Janis Roszler, RD, CDE, a marriage and family therapist in Miami. "Some rise to the occasion and surpass our expectations, and others fall short." Having support from your partner can make a big difference in how well you cope with the challenges of diabetes. If your needs aren’t being met, let your partner know and discuss changes. Set aside time to be together without talking about diabetes. Seek additional support, so your spouse isn’t your only sounding board. STICKING TO DIETARY CHANGES It’s no fun being vigilant about everything you eat. "People think that a diabetic diet means deprivation," Zrebiec says. "But it’s really about eating healthy and in moderation." You can even enjoy so-called unhealthy foods like chocolate and alcohol—in limited amounts. Zrebiec encourages people with diabetes to stick with healthy practices like carb-counting and measuring portions, because it eventually gets easier. It’s also important to recognize the rewards that come with vigilance, such as lower blood pressure, weight loss, better blood sugar, and feeling more in control. WORKING THROUGH IT ALL Having diabetes can make you feel insecure about your job, especially if you have diabetes complications. You may worry that higher-ups will think less of you, you won’t get promoted, or you'll get fired due to diabetes. The best thing to do is practice good glucose (blood sugar) control, which will keep you healthy, Zrebiec says. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) means employers can't discriminate against you for having diabetes, and they're required to make reasonable accommodations for you to do your job. While you may be reluctant to let coworkers know about your diabetes, keep in mind that anti-discrimination laws apply only if your employer knows about your disability. Diabetes Mellitus - Diabetes mellitus type 1 - One Health 👉👉👉 Get It Here: http://tinyurl.com/lydyceh 👈👈👈 Diabetes mellitus type 1 Diabetes mellitus type 1 (also known as type 1 diabetes) is a form of diabetes mellitus in which not enough insulin is produced. The lack of insulin results in high blood sugar levels. The classical symptoms are frequent urination, increased thirst, increased hunger, and weight loss. Additional symptoms may include blurry vision, feeling tired, and poor healing. Symptoms typically develop over a short period of time. The cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown. However, it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Risk factors include having a family member with the condition. The underlying mechanism involves an autoimmune destruction of the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. Diabetes is diagnosed by testing the level of sugar or A1C in the blood. Type 1 diabetes may be distinguished from type 2 by autoantibody testing. There is no known way to prevent type 1 diabetes. Treatment with insulin is typically required for survival. Insulin therapy is usually given by injection just under the skin but can also be delivered by an insulin pump. A diabetic diet and exercise are an important part of management. Untreated, diabetes can cause many complications. Complications of relatively rapid onset include diabetic ketoacidosis and nonketotic hyperosmolar coma. Long-term complications include heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, foot ulcers and damage to the eyes. Furthermore, complications may arise from low blood sugar caused by excessive insulin treatment. Type 1 diabetes makes up an estimated 5–10% of all diabetes cases. The number of people affected globally is unknown, although it is estimated that about 80,000 children develop the disease each year. Within the United States the number of people affected is estimated at one to three million. Rates of disease vary widely with approximately 1 new case per 100,000 per year in East Asia and Latin America and around 30 new cases per 100,000 per year in Scandinavia and Kuwait. It typically begins in children and young adults. Diabetes Type 2 Cure Without Drugs

01:31
Natural Diabetes Cure: http://theictmstore.org To manage diabetes well means keeping your blood sugar level down in the same range as that of people who don’t have diabetes. The way we check this level is the A1C (sometimes called glycated hemoglobin, hemoglobin A1c, or HbA1c). This test tells you what your average blood sugar level was during the previous two or three months by using a drop of blood about as small as that you use on your regular fingerstick tests that tells you what your level is right then. When you manage your diabetes well, it is well controlled. It is normal. We know that the normal A1C level is 6.0 or below. See “The Normal A1C Level.” An A1C level of 6.0 or below means that your diabetes is in remission. It does not mean that you have cured it. If you relax your vigilance, your A1C level will go above 6.0 again, and you will again put yourself at risk of the terrible complications of uncontrolled diabetes. You can use drugs to bring your A1C level down to normal. That’s a good thing. But this strategy does have its costs, and those costs aren’t just money out of your pocket or your checkbook. The worst of those costs are the potential side effects of the drugs. All drugs can have side effects. The systems and the organs of our bodies are so interconnected that no drug can target just one part of it without having some effect elsewhere. Sometimes we find that the side effects are helpful, but we can also find that they are harmful. Sometimes they are subtle and affect only a few people, but sometimes they are serious. All of the drugs that we take to manage our diabetes are known to or are suspected of having some serious side effects in some people. That’s the price most of us are willing to pay. But some of us think we have a safer strategy of managing our diabetes without drugs. Back in 2007 I joined this group with the encouragement of a good friend of mine who is a Certified Diabetes Educator. Before that, I had 14 years of experience taking a wide range of diabetes drugs, including two different sulfonylureas (Diaßeta and Amyrl), Glucophage (metformin), and Byetta. For the past six years I haven’t taking any diabetes drugs, and yet I keep my diabetes in control with an A1C level usually about 5.4. I had to make three big changes in my life when I went off the diabetes drugs, and they are hard at first. But now they are a routine part of my life, and I would never go back to my old ways. The changes that I had to make are those that almost everyone who has diabetes has to make. In order of importance, I had (1) to lose weight, (2) eat fewer carbohydrates, and (3) exercise more. Any lifestyle changes this fundamental are difficult, first because a body at rest tends to remain at rest, as Sir Isaac Newton proved more than 300 years ago. I wrote here about both the down side and the up side of “Overcoming Exercise Inertia,” but inertia is just as big a factor in losing weight and in eating wisely. But we have another difficulty at first when we shift our metabolism from getting our energy from carbohydrates to getting it from fats, the only choice we have. A very low-carb diet necessarily means a high-fat diet, and the transition from carb-burning to fat-burning for energy can make us feel weak for a couple of weeks, as I wrote in “It’s Low-Carb Weak.” Those are hurdles we all have to cross in making the transition to managing our diabetes without drugs. Is it worth the effort? For me, my answer is an unequivocal yes, and I feel confident that it will be for you, if you are not managing your diabetes well or even if you are managing it well while using a diabetes drug or two or three. The systems of our bodies are so interrelated that when we manage our diabetes well, we get a positive side effect that spills over into our general well-being.

Trina Type 1 Diabetes - Teen Years the Diabetic Girl

02:04
Having grown up with type 1 diabetes and now the mom of a type 1, I'm seeing the other side of diabetes. I remember especially in my teen years not wanting everyone to focus on the diabetes. I knew it was a part of things. I had accepted it at that point. I really didn't want everyone looking at me and saying, "Oh, there's the diabetic girl". It's very frustrating. Especially because I didn't choose to be diabetic. Just like you, I don't want to be defined by my diabetes. Now on the other side, as a mom, I see how some days it feels like my whole life is revolving around my son's diabetes. I feel like I'm hovering over him, watching him for blood sugar swings, for what he ate that I didn't know he ate. It's this terrible burden as far as feeling like that you have to be able to take care of every little thing of your child's health for them to survive. Although diabetes is something that we do need to address and we can't ignore, it shouldn't define us. Thankfully, when I was a teenager I was already doing my treatments. Although the diabetes was already there and already a nuisance, it didn't have that overwhelming, huge presence in my life. I knew that as long as I kept doing my treatments, I was going to be okay. I wasn't going to have all those complications. I actually just want to share with others that same feeling of relief that, although, yes, I still manage my blood sugars, it's not going to define me. I'm not going to develop any complications. The complications I did develop went away. It's just a wonderful sense of peace. I want to share that with all of you.

What is Pre Diabetes?

01:56
Vitamin D and Pre-Diabetes An estimated 79 million U.S. adults are pre-diabetic. The term "pre-diabetes" is a rather recently coined term to describe the increasingly common condition in which your blood sugar levels are chronically elevated, but you don't have full-blown diabetes yet. The goal of treating pre-diabetes is to naturally prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. The major recommendations have been weight loss, better eating habits and more physical activity. However, burgeoning research suggests that your level of vitamin D is closely related to your pre-diabetes status. It might one day become the focus of pre-diabetes treatment. Vitamin D Inside the body, vitamin D promotes calcium absorption, so it's mainly known as an important protector of bone health. It's also central to cell growth, immune function and inflammation control. Over the past 20 years, however, a growing body of research has revealed many other roles for vitamin D, including heart health, as well as controlling high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes. Researchers have discovered that vitamin D receptors are located all over your body, including in the pancreas, which produces insulin and is a key player in the onset of diabetes. Pre-Diabetes Pre-diabetes happens when your blood sugar levels are consistently higher than normal, but don't yet reach the level at which you'd be diagnosed with diabetes. Doctors and scientists also refer to this condition as impaired glucose tolerance. Based on CDC data of a representative sample's A1c levels, approximately 35 percent of U.S. adults are pre-diabetic. Being pre-diabetic naturally increases your risk for type 2 diabetes, but at the pre-diabetic stage, many people are already experiencing the heart-related complications of diabetes, along with increases in blood lipids such as cholesterol. Most people with pre-diabetes develop full diabetes within 10 years, but the National Diabetes Education Program reports that losing 5 to 7 percent of your body weight can prevent the disease. Vitamin D Deficiency Linked to Pre-Diabetes Elena Barengolts, an endocrinologist with the University of Illinois-Chicago published a meta-analysis of research in the journal "Endocrine Practice" linking vitamin D and pre-diabetes. She found that most pre-diabetics are vitamin D-insufficient. Too little circulating vitamin D is defined as a concentration of less than 30 ng/mL, and estimates are that 77 percent of the U.S. population falls below this level. People with low vitamin D status tend to have higher fasting blood sugar levels, impaired glucose tolerance, higher rates of metabolic syndrome and a higher incidence of pre-diabetes. Her findings suggest that supplementation with vitamin D among pre-diabetics improves insulin secretion, insulin sensitivity and insulin resistance. Pre Diabetes: Risk Factor, Diagnosis and Management

03:06
Pre diabetes, which may be known as Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) or Impaired Fasting Glucose (IFG), occurs when blood glucose levels are higher than normal, although not high enough to be diabetes. There are no signs or symptoms. People with pre-diabetes have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular (heart and circulation) disease. Risk factors of pre diabetes - A family history of type 2 diabetes - Being overweight - Waist measurement - Low level of physical activity - Smoking - High blood pressure or high cholesterol - History of heart disease or stroke - Gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy) - Polycystic ovary syndrome - Some antipsychotic medications Diagnosis of pre diabetes Pre diabetes is diagnosed by a blood test that checks your blood glucose level. Any blood glucose test that shows higher than normal blood glucose levels needs to be checked further. An oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is the best way to diagnose pre diabetes. The results of the OGTT will show whether your blood glucose levels are in the normal, pre-diabetes or diabetes range. If you are diagnosed with pre diabetes, you will have one or both of: - Impaired fasting glucose (IFG) When your fasting blood glucose level is higher than normal, but still below the level for a diagnosis of diabetes - Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) When your blood glucose level two hours after an OGTT is higher than normal, but is still below the level for diabetes. The fasting blood glucose level may be in the normal range. Management of pre diabetes Pre diabetes can be prevented by making lifestyle changes, including: 1. Weight loss Helps the insulin in your body work better and lower your blood glucose levels 2. Regular moderate physical activity Actiivity help you manage your weight and will also lower your blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Exercise also makes your insulin work better 3. Healthy diet This involves less fat, especially saturated fats, and more fruit, vegetables and high-fibre wholegrain foods 4. Stopping smoking Smoking causes insulin resistance and increases the risk of blood vessel disease 5. Blood pressure and cholesterol control Blood pressure and cholesterol control should be well managed and checked regularly by your doctor

Understanding Gestational Diabetes: Risks, Symptoms and Diet plans

02:55
Gestational Diabetes is a temporary type of diabetes and is one of the most common health problems for pregnant women. Glucose intolerance is an early stage of the condition. Some amazing facts and resources on countering the condition are available at http://gestationaldiabetics.com Gestational Diabetes is caused by the way hormones in pregnancy affect you. It occurs in about five to seven percent of all pregnancies so you're not alone. During pregnancy an organ called the placenta develops in the uterus. The placenta connects the mother and baby and makes sure the baby has enough food and water. The placenta also makes several hormones. Some of these hormones make it hard for insulin to do its job controlling blood sugar, also known as blood glucose. Insulin opens your cells so that glucose can get it. During your pregnancy your body has to make about three times its normal amount of insulin. Gestational Diabetes develops when the organ that makes insulin, the pancreas can't make enough insulin for pregnancy.
