BEST TOOL BATTERY? WHY BIG LITHIUM COST YOU LESS!

10:19
I BOLTR the 18V Makita 5Ah but first I'll show you why bigger is better. Because: CHEMISTRY! The small batteries have 5 cells connected in series. As such, the cells have higher current discharge ratings and generally lower Ah ratings. As a double whammy, higher discharge rates mean shorter lifetime. The larger packs have 3 parallel banks of 5 cells in series. That means each cell in the bank needs lower current discharge and has larger Ah ratings. More BEEF for Less BUCK. Drill battery rebuild - NiCd to Lithium

04:21
Drill/ screwdriver battery rebuild (repair) to 18650 lithium ion batteries. Parts: Battery holder for 18650 size batteries 3x Sony VTC4 18650 2100mAh 30A batteries BMS to control charge/ discharge Original charger can be used for charging. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Converted old drill battery to lion 18650 elements. Decided to use battery holder for 3x 18650 elements to avoid spot welding of batteries. Added BMS to control charge/ discharge, so original charger cam be used for charging. Battery pack case was too small to fit battery holder with BMS, so front of case was cut off and then battery holder secured with electrical tape - not nicest solution but works well.

DIY: How to Revive a dead Li-ion power tool battery

08:15
Fix your dead battery by using a DC power source to raise its voltage. Note: do NOT use a DC power source with more voltage than the maximum rated voltage of the dead battery. If you have a regular 18V or 20V battery pack, that's 21V max (4.2V x5). Do not use a DC power source more than 21V to revive the dead 21V battery. About the wires with alligator clips: make sure you use heavy gauge wires size AWG 14 or bigger. The alligator clips with attached wires from Harbor Freight are not going to make it as the wires are too thin and they will heat up and just melt or burn the insulation right away. And make sure to monitor closely what you're doing cause it might heat up things quickly. As soon as you get the desired voltage (about 16V or more for this kind of batteries), just remove the alligator clips and put the battery in the charger. In other words, just do the parallel charging as minimal as possible and just enough for your charger to recognize the dead battery.

DIY tool hack: Turn two compact power tool batteries into a single high capacity battery

14:11
In this video, I will show you how to combine two compact 2Ah cordless power tool Li-ion batteries into a single extended capacity 4Ah battery. With a bigger pack, not only do you now have twice the run time, you also have twice the discharge rate (current). So a tool that requires high current will be more powerful as it can pull more current out of the bigger battery.

Aftermarket lithium-ion power tool battery packs: Are they worth it?

14:11
You've got a cordless power tool or two. And that means you've got some over-priced Li-ion battery packs to run them. What about cheaper aftermarket packs? Are they good? Are they crap? Are they worth it? OOPS: 18650 = 18mm x 65mm, not 650mm. I'm fired. BTW, the packs in this vid are surprisingly simple, without any of the fancier protection circuits. This is rather common in low-end and mid-range power tools with removable battery packs, which is what most people use! For more tech tips, see: https://scottiestech.info

Lithium Drill Battery Hack Watch Before You Buy New Batteries

06:49
Drill batteries wont charge or charger says defective battery? Here I show you how to get a little longer life out of your drill batteries before replacing them. Super easy trick. Basically if your battery voltage gets down below a certain point, the charger and/or BMS system on the battery wont let you charge them even if you try to jump start the battery to raise the voltage from the external terminals. Remove the cover and charge the pack at the batteries internal terminals (bypass the bms)to get the voltage high enough to allow the charger to fully charge and balance the pack. I tried not to edit to much so you could see the entire process which took less than an hour. Back from the DEAD! Lithium Batteries!

08:57
http://www.realtoolreviews.com/ Get a Multimeter at Amazon here -- http://amzn.to/2fD8Dwx *** USE CAUTION!!! *** Lithium Batteries can & will catch on fire or explode if overheated! Do not attempt to revive completely drained, damaged, or unknown batteries --- only attempt to revive them IF they are still holding a significant charge! (as shown in the video) MOST "dead" batteries are beyond repair --- meaning you never want to disassemble them or replace parts. If this trick does not work, return the dead pack to the manufacturer or recycling center!! DO NOT OPEN THE PACK UP! Do NOT attempt this indoors! Do NOT attempt this near flammable items! ONLY attempt this outside in a driveway or parking lot in case of fire! If you are not comfortable, do not attempt ---- contact the manufacturer for a replacement and/or bring the battery to your local recycling center for disposal.

Ask Kevin: How to Select Power-Tool Batteries

01:56
Watch the full episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCZXj9uUxzA This Old House host Kevin O'Connor shares a few tips for getting the most out of your cordless tools. (See steps below.) Click here to SUBSCRIBE to the official This Old House YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=thisoldhouse Steps for How to Select Power-Tool Batteries: 1. Older power tools will likely have nickel-cadmium (nicad) batteries, which are heavy but rugged and resistant to cold weather. 2. A busy contractor might need to replace a nicad battery every two years or so. 3. Lithium-ion batteries are much lighter and more powerful than nicads. 4. Fuel gauges are found on most lithium-ion batteries that show how much power is left. 5. Lithium-ion batteries hold a charge for a very long time, making them ideal for seldom-used power tools. 6. Once a rechargeable battery dies completely and can no longer be recharged, be sure to recycle it properly. Most power-tool manufacturers have a recycling program and will accept old and dead batteries. Subscribe and visit our weekly FIX IT Home Improvement podcast on iTunes or Stitcher https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/fix-it-home-improvement/id880903087?mt=2 Power tool batteries should be stored in a cool dry location. If the battery comes with a cap, use that when out of the tool to protect the contacts. For nickle cadmium batteries you should charge them every month or so to keep it fully charged. Lithium ion batteries can be charged every 6 months or so. Use your cordless tools at every chance. If the battery isn't used regularly, it can form crystals that will shorten its life.

How to revive a dead rechargeable power tool battery easily

03:24
How to revive a dead rechargeable power tool battery easily Rechargeable batteries for power tools sometimes will no longer charge but often these can be easily restored back to life with this simple method. The problem: You have a drill or other power tool with rechargeable batteries but one of the batteries is completely dead and when you plug it into the recharger unit it won't recharge at all. The manufacturers would tell you that you need to buy a new battery. When you look into it you find that the cost a new battery is so high that you may as well just buy a new drill that comes with a couple of new batteries. Well all is not lost! A friend in the UK told me about this method to revive a dead drill battery many years ago and I have used it successfully a number of times since. Basically, it seems that when a battery becomes completely discharged the charger unit effectively does not recognise that a battery has been inserted. This method puts enough charge into the battery so that it is not recognised by the charger and it gets recharged. I take the dead Dewalt battery and a good fully-charged battery and place them side by side. I then use a couple of pairs of scissors to connect the terminals together (plus to plus and negative to negative). I keep them connected for a minute or so and by then the dead battery has sufficient charge to be fully recharged by the charger unit. Of course you can use two pieces of wire or something else to connect the batteries together but I have found scissors work well when doing it by yourself with only one pair of hands. Although I have fix a Dewalt battery here I have used this method to fix other makes when the battery will not charge. So, in future, if you have a dead Nicd power tool battery try this power tool battery fix first before buying new. DIY Charge any cordless tool/drill battery without a charger using Turnigy balance charger

10:08
If you have a variety of cordless tools, it's impossible to have too many different kind of chargers. In this video I'll show you how to charge any cordless tool battery with a Turnigy Accucell charger (which is usually used for charging RC batteries). Save your money on the original chargers and the clutters of keeping them around. This charger will need a 12V power source. Here's how to power it with a computer Power Supply: https://youtu.be/ibWBglrGYsE

Power Tool Lithium Battery Repair

35:54
So I went to use my Dremel battery powered tool the other day only to find one of the battery packs had given up the ghost... Considering how expensive these battery packs are, I decided to see what was wrong and if I could repair it. One cell was open circuit and the other two seemed to be at almost 0 volts, this would be a write off for lithium batteries based on specifications so I replaced them all with salvaged 11860's from a laptop battery pack, in the process I doubled the pack capacity from 1300mAh to 2600mAh... Nice. This is not something you want to do if you don’t know how to handle lithium batteries as a short or other mistake can result in personal injury or something getting burned or set on fire, worst case an explosion so be warned, get help if you don’t know what you’re doing or don’t do it. Laptop batteries typically have Lithium Cobalt chemistry as these give out more power, the pack I was repairing was a Lithium Nickel which is more stable. Even though two of the cells probably would have recovered, I had no Nickel chemistry ones to replace the faulty one so it was all or nothing DON’T attempt this is you only have a light / medium power Soldering Iron, the batteries are a big heat sink and it takes power to heat up the tabs to solder onto them and a lower powered iron will not heat the tab up quick enough to allow soldering without heating up the rest of the cell and this would be bad DONT MIX AND MATCH CAPACITY, TYPE, CHEMISTRY or MANUFACTURER and if you can, use salvaged batteries from the same salvaged unit All in all the repair was a success and I now have a good pack for my Dremel again.. Ya A good source of salvageable batteries are older laptop battery packs or tool battery packs that have been handed into a hardware store for re-cycling (If you can persuade them to part with them, something to do with health and safety and they don’t know you or your abilities so they don’t want to be responsible if they gave them to you). You can also buy new cells from many places including eBay, Amazon etc and this can still be way cheaper than a new tool pack from the hardware store. But I will say it again, if you don’t know what you’re doing then don’t do this yourself, even if you know how to use a soldering iron, these types of batteries contain a huge capacity and will easily heat up a roll of solder, a screwdriver blade or other metal should it short out the + and – terminal of the pack and can explode spectacularly so don’t say you’re not warned

Make a 120 Volt BATTERY PACK FOR POWER TOOLS!

04:42
Quick and Dirty Lithium battery for plug in power tools. You can use this to power most plug in tools! One fantastic feature of most power tools; they have universal electric motors. This means they will run just fine on DC power. AC/DC! So I took three, 36V lithium cells and put them in series to power a circular saw. Long term projects: http://www.Patreon.com/AvE

Cordless Drill Battery Pack Rebuild for $20 or Repair for $0

Nicd Battery Pack Rebuild Total cost at time of rebuild was $22.54 to rebuild the entire 14.4V Pack with better than original batteries. Here are soldering tabs:http://amzn.to/2dMfqFX Here are great cells with tabs pre installed: http://amzn.to/2ld99IF 16 cells= 19.2 v packs 15 cells=18volt packs 12 cells =14.4volt packs 10 cells = 12volt packs If you need a soldering iron: http://amzn.to/2ldgPuD This is my favorite 140watt: http://amzn.to/2kAYbK1 "Sub C" are approx 1-11/16" or 43.1mm tall "4/5 Sub C" are approx 1-5/16" or 33.4mm tall Both are approx 7/8" or 23mm round the same as a C size battery UPGRADING TO LITHIUM: https://youtu.be/q2eaKCzf04c Combining Packs: I didn't want to go too much into the theory of load testing the cells. You can charge the pack and let it sit for a few days/week. Then put a flash light 3v bulb onto a individual cell and measure the voltage as the bulb is attached. You'll be able to determine the strong cells vs the weak. The good cells should stay around 1.3 volts or more. You'll see some drop right under a volt immediately(those are really bad). Letting it sit for a while shows you the cells with high self discharge rates.

Identifying the good cells in a dead battery and moving them to another battery, to get it working. But even the 'good' cells are well used, so will this repair stand the test of time? WARNING: Repairing lithium power tool batteries is potentially DANGEROUS. Wear eye protection, do not short or overheat cells. If in doubt - buy new batteries.

DIY How to revive/fix/rejuvenate/Repair/ recharge a bad dead rechargeable NiCd battery for cordless

02:32
Only works on NiCd batteries. Do not try on other battery types. In this video I take an old 18V NiCd battery that has not been used for 4 years, because it wouldn't hold a charge. My Ryobi battery that I used on all my cordless tools (circular saw, drill, reciprocating saw, vacuum, rotary saw, sander, and flashligh). You will need an alternate source that is around twice the voltage of the battery you want to rejuvenate. I need 36 volts and was only able to combine the 3 batteries I had to make 45V. I could have drained some charge down, but I decided to just use the 45V and it did the job. I connected my batteries in a series, but you can use any source that is about 36v. It is important that you follow these steps to get proper results. If you are not able to recharge after this you most likely have a dead cell. 1st - Fully drain your battery, so it shows no voltage on the meter. 2nd - Connect your batteries in a series. 3rd - Take the negative lead of your series and attach it to the negative terminal of your dead battery (I just taped it into place) 4th - take the positive lead from the series and quickly and repetitively tap it to the positive terminal of the dead battery for 5-7 seconds. 5th - Check current with the multimeter to make sure your dead battery accepted the charge. If it did not wait 5-10 minutes and try again, before determining you have another problem, just in case you made a mistake in the process the first time. 6th - wait 10-15 minutes before attempting to charge. 7th - Fully charge battery and test test on multimeter. 8th - Enjoy your newly rejuvenated battery This will work on most all NiCd batteries. This is a must for anyone with a cordless drill. Save your drill for years! Works for Dewalt, Sears, Craftsman, Ryobi, Porter-cable, Black & Decker, Kawasaki, Makita, Bosch, Milwaukee, Rigid, Panasonic, Ridgid, Hitachi, Snap-On, Cordless Max, Master Mechanic, Drill Master, and any other type of drill with a NiCd battery. Works on 9V, 9.6V, 12V, 14V, 14.4V 18V, 19.2V, 20V, or 9, 9.6, 12, 14, 14.4, 18, 19.2, 20 volt battery do it yourself and bring it back to life.

How to revive dead NiCd battery from cordless power tools

05:21
In this video I'll show you how to bring to life dead NiCd battery from cordless power tools. Nicd batteries often die in such a way that they won't take a charge and have zero voltage. This usually means they're shorted out by crystal dendrite growth inside Nicd cells. There's a method of bringing them back to life by zapping those shorted crystal dendrites away with too much current and voltage. DeWALT 18V XRP NiCad Battery Pack Conversion to Lithium (5S Li-Po)

03:54
A simple conversion to upgrade my old/trusty DeWALT 18V portable power tools to lithium technology. At the time of this video, I bought this battery for $24. https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=58711. The compartment in the XRP pack can take 120mm x 48mm x 40mm. New battery sizes come out all the time, so pick whichever has the largest capacity that fits. The Li-Po battery I chose is a high-discharge one, rated at 40C. This is definitely not my preference, but at this time my choices are limited and the physical dimension + overall capacity were the priorities. I would had chosen a lower discharge rating if possible, since it will be more stable when holding a full charge. Lithium batteries don't like holding full charges for too long, especially the high-discharge ones. Also, you must get a 5S Li-Po pack to make the voltage equivalent. Many low-end chargers don't charge up to 5S, so please use the correct charger. I am not keen on unbalanced-charging when balanced-charging is available. Granted, unbalanced-charging is way easier to accomplish and I can possibly convert the original DeWALT charger base to connect to a Li-Po charger, but I rather take the extra step to charge via a balanced charger. DO NOT CHARGE THE LI-PO BATTERY WITH THE DEWALT CHARGER!!! Lastly, please dispose the old Ni-Cad batteries properly.
