After finishing high school, she completed a three-year course in sculpture and woodcarving in Oberammergau, a place famous for its woodcarving tradition and the passion play. In 1970 Johanna migrated to Australia, and after raising a family and assisting her husband in building his business, she started painting in 1980. Her first paintings were of her childhood memories, with nature and the four seasons represented in each picture. Initially she began painting on glass panels, a more traditional way of painting in many parts of southern Europe. Johanna began displaying her paintings in Sydney in the early 80’s, during the weekly Sunday Art Market in Macquarie St, outside the Botanical Gardens. Though she took part in group shows in Sydney, Johanna had her first solo exhibition in 1984 in Melbourne. Some of the highlights of her career include a group show in London at Queensland House, had a book launch in Paris, Japan and Germany, as well as twenty-four solo exhibitions. Johanna draws her inspiration from nature, memories, surroundings, bush walking and snorkeling. ‘My work is inspired by the Australian landscape. The canvas and clay surface offer me a platform to communicate my strong connection to nature. I am interested in the close link between visual input, emotional experiences and memories, and the way they leave tiny imprints on our subconscious. My artwork explores, expresses and celebrates this concept.’ – Johanna Hildebrandt You can contact the artist about their art tips or art techniques directly via their website http://www.jhildebrandt.com.au/ The Colour In Your Life TV series is an art show that takes you into the everyday studios of artists from around the world. The Miracle of Mercy Small Group DVD sample
Did you know that mercy is God’s number one characteristic in the Bible? The world portrays God as a God of anger and judgment. But God shows himself first and foremost as a God of mercy. If mercy is God’s number one characteristic that he reveals to us in the Bible—if that is the most important thing he wants us to know about him—then it must be the most important thing for us to learn about him. And it must also be the most important character trait that God wants to develop in us. Jesus said, ”Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” –Matthew 5:7 (NIV) The six sessions include: Session One: The Five Marks of Mercy (30:53) Session Two: Mercy Forgives the Fallen (30:59) Session Three: Mercy Helps the Hurting (27:46) Session Four: Mercy is Patient with Difficult People (27:52) Session Five: Mercy is Kind to Enemies (31:06) Session Six: Mercy Cares for the Lost (29:10) Let’s take the next forty days to see what mercy really looks like. This small group DVD is designed to be used with The Miracle of Mercy study guide.

Saving the Day- The Muckrakers
This is a song written by Mr. Nowinski about a group of journalists who tried to expose large scale corruptions around the nation on the local, state, and national level here in the Untied States. Lyrics Well I was just a little boy in a tiny Polish town When I heard the word America the name it did astound The streets were paved with gold in the melting pot so grand But then my dreams of being rich fell through my hands like sand The muckrakers will save the day Take some notes and pictures to make it go away inside chicago's slaughterhouse the only work I could find The things that I have seen there make me pray that i'd go blind uninspected bovine sick and dirty just pass through We'd chop it up and can'em for our valiant boys in blue And political corruption is as constant as the sun While honest working union men stay always at square one The grafts they are not honest, the votes mean nothing more than tallies on a chalkboard corruption to core So save us Mr. Sinclair in The Jungle hot and dark And Tommy Nast will draw cartoons that always hits it's mark While Ms. Tarbell spills oil from the octopuses well Jacob Riis did talk to me in the dirty place I dwell The muckrakers will save the day Take some notes and pictures to make it go away

Feeding The Future - Part 1 Food Security
Please watch: "UNSWTV: Entertaining your curiosity" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQ7UO8nxiL0 -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- By 2050 more than twice as many of us will be living in cities. While urban agriculture of the community kind is on the rise, commercial urban farms are under threat. More than 60% of Sydney's fresh produce is grown close to the city, the bulk of it coming from commercial gardens. How we use urban land is shaping up as one of the biggest dilemmas of the 21st Century. A booming population needs to be housed, but it also needs to be fed, and the cost of relying on imported food is already being felt. VOA news for Friday, November 14th, 2014
Thanks to http://gandalf.ddo.jp/ for audio and text Friday, November 14th, 2014 From Washington, this is VOA news. President Obama in Myanmar. Liberian president ends state of emergency over Ebola. I'm Ray Kouguell reporting from Washington. President Obama says he is confident of a "new day" in Myanmar, but admits there is still work to be done as that country transitions to a democracy. President Obama spoke Thursday during a meeting with legislative leaders in the capital, Naypyidaw, and he said he his talks also focused on pushing the government to do more to protect human rights. President Obama is attending a summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. He praised Myanmar and its leader Thein Sein for hosting the gathering. "During the past six years, we've made great strides in elevating and expanding this partnership, but I think we all agree we can still do more. And that's why the United States is committed to strengthening ASEAN, both as an institution and as a community of nations bound by our shared interests and values.” President Obama plans to meet with long-time democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi today. Liberia's President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is ending the state of emergency she instituted because of the Ebola crisis. President Sirleaf says the fight against Ebola is not over and that some restrictions will remain in place. "Until the national goal of zero new cases by Christmas is achieved all across the country, we will keep many of the previous measures in place with appropriate adjustments consistent with the progress in our fight.” President Sirleaf says markets can reopen and a curfew will be pushed back to midnight in non-affected areas. She says "hot spots" for the virus continue to appear in rural areas, but the worst may be over. This is VOA news. U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says the U.S.-led airstrikes against Islamic State militants will intensify in the future as Iraqi ground forces work to become more effective. Secretary Hagel told a U.S. congressional committee Thursday the United States and coalition forces are making progress in the fight against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, but that the American people must prepare for a long struggle. General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, also testified Thursday and said it is possible that sometime in the future U.S. officials will consider assigning a modest number of American troops to fight with Iraqi forces in the northern city of Mosul and elsewhere. Israel is lifting age restrictions from Muslims who want to worship at the Temple Mount, the Jerusalem holy site the Muslims call al-Aqsa Mosque. Israeli police have been limiting access to the site to women and men 35 and older, fearing youths plan to stir up violence. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised Thursday to take steps to ease tensions between Jews and Palestinians over the holy site revered by both faiths and overseen by Jordan. Mr. Netanyahu met in Jordan with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Jordanian King Abdullah. In a new recording, a man purporting to be Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is calling for "volcanoes of jihad" against more Arab states and says the United States will eventually be drawn into a deadly ground war against the group's fighters. The 17-minute recording was released on social media networks Thursday by the Islamic State. Iraqi authorities say Baghdadi had been wounded in a U.S. airstrike last week that hit a convoy of Islamic State leaders near Fallujah. The U.S. military never made a similar claim. It was not known whether the recording was made before or after that air attack. The World Health Organization says the global campaign to eliminate measles is in trouble. About 146,000 children died from measles last year, an increase of almost 24,000 from the previous year. Lisa Schlein has more. The World Health Organization says a decline in routine measles vaccine coverage has resulted in large outbreaks of this highly contagious disease in recent years. It also has stalled global efforts to eradicate measles by 2015. The U.N. agency says measles immunization efforts are hampered by lack of money, weak health systems and not enough awareness of the importance of vaccinating children against this killer disease. It notes it only costs about one dollar to vaccinate a child. WHO estimates 15.6 million deaths have been prevented through vaccination between 2000 and 2013. Lisa Schlein, for VOA news, Geneva. And I'm Ray Kouguell in Washington. That's the latest world news from VOA.

VOA news for Friday, November 7th, 2014
Thanks to http://gandalf.ddo.jp/ for audio and text Friday, November 7th, 2014 From Washington, this is VOA news. NATO's new leader brings a message of reassurance to Afghanistan, and Nigeria releases dozens of detainees who have been suspected of having militant connections. I'm Michael Lipin reporting from Washington. The new head of the NATO military alliance has made his first visit to the Afghan capital, Kabul, since taking office earlier this year. Speaking Thursday, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told Afghans that NATO will continue supporting their country after it withdraws foreign combat troops at the end of this year. Stoltenberg said the end of the combat mission means "starting a new chapter in which Afghanistan's future will be in the hands of the Afghan people.” "Much has been sacrificed over many years to give Afghanistan a chance to succeed. We cannot and we will not allow these gains to be lost. I am here to reaffirm NATO's commitment to our common efforts for peace and security.” Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, who met with Stoltenberg, said he looks forward to working with the Western alliance in the future. U.S.-led NATO forces plan to leave a residual force of 12,000 personnel in Afghanistan to provide training and backup for Afghan troops who are continuing to fight a Taliban militant insurgency. The Nigerian army has released 42 suspected members of Boko Haram after clearing them of involvement in the militant group's activities. The 42 men, who include three foreign nationals from Chad, Cameroon and Burkina Faso, had been arrested during military raids over the past three years. Nigerian army officials turned them over to Borno state governor Kashim Shettima on Tuesday at the state capital. You are listening to VOA news. The Pentagon says U.S. airstrikes have hit Islamic State militants in Syria who were plotting to attack the United States or Europe. U.S. Central Command says five Khorasan group targets were struck Wednesday night near Sarmada close to the Turkish border. Coalition jets struck terrorists and destroyed vehicles, buildings and bomb-making facilities. A Pentagon official who did not want to be named says one of the targets was a French-born convert to Islam and suspected al-Qaeda bomb-maker, David Drugeon. No one was able to confirm if Drugeon or any other suspects were killed. The Pentagon says it took decisive action to protect the U.S. interests and remove the terrorists' capability to act. Human rights group Amnesty International says U.N. peacekeepers in the Central African Republic must take bold action to protect civilians from armed fighters. The group says sectarian violence in the African country is escalating. VOA's Joe DeCapua reports. Amnesty's Steve Cockburn says despite U.N. peacekeepers being deployed in September, the killings and displacement of civilians are on the rise. "Over the last month, we've seen the situation deteriorate somewhat in Central African Republic.” Cockburn is Amnesty International's deputy regional director for West and Central Africa. "During our recent mission to CAR, we uncovered a very significant upsurge in violence also in the central area of the country around the town of Bambari and Dekoa, where there's a really quite a volatile mix of increasingly heavily armed groups.” CAR has a transitional government that Amnesty International says should play a leading role in ending the violence. But it adds that a lot more international support is needed to do so, including financing, logistics and security. Joe DeCapua, VOA news, Washington. The International Criminal Court has announced that it will not prosecute Israel for a 2010 raid on a Turkish flotilla bound for Gaza Strip. Nine Turkish pro-Palestinian activists who were trying to break an Israeli blockade of Gaza were killed by Israeli commandos in that raid. ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said there is a "reasonable basis" to believe that war crimes were committed by Israel. But he also said the alleged crimes were not of "sufficient gravity to justify further action by the ICC.” Israel's Foreign Ministry said it took a "positive note" of the decision. But it said Israel considers the case to be politically motivated and legally unfounded, and regrets what it called the waste of the International Criminal Court's time and resources. I'm Michael Lipin reporting from Washington. That's the latest world news from VOA.

VOA news for Tuesday, November 18th, 2014
Thanks to http://gandalf.ddo.jp/ for audio and text Tuesday, November 18th, 2014 From Washington, this is VOA news. Coming up, the latest on the Ebola outbreak. Plus, more on the Islamic State beheadings. Hello everyone, I'm Steve Norman. A U.S. surgeon who contracted Ebola while working in Sierra Leone has died of the disease at a special isolation treatment unit in the U.S. state of Nebraska. Dr. Martin Salia was admitted to the bio-containment unit after a long trip from Africa late Saturday afternoon. Forty-four-year-old Salia was the chief medical officer at the United Methodist Kissy Hospital in Freetown, Sierra Leone, when he was tested positive last week for Ebola. The current outbreak of Ebola is the worst on record. It has killed at least 1,577 people, most of them in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, according to the latest figures from the World Health Organization. French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve [says] said Monday that a French citizen who joined Islamic State extremists in 2013 is believed to be among the knife-wielding extremists lined up behind their kneeling victims in the latest video. Cazeneuve said that there was a "strong presumption" that the man was 22-year-old Maxime Hauchar, who had been monitored by French authorities since he left for Syria in 2013. He called on all French citizens, especially young people who are the primary targets of the Islamic State recruitment, to realize the terrible reality of the militants' actions. On Sunday, President Obama confirmed the slaying of an American aid worker who had been beheaded by the Islamic State group along with a dozen Syrian soldiers. This is VOA news. U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says the U.S. military is accelerating its training and advising mission in Iraq as forces there continue to battle the Islamic State militants. We get more now from VOA's Carla Babb. Secretary Hagel says the military has moved some of the U.S. special operations forces in Iraq into early missions with Iraqi forces in volatile Anbar province. "Just to kind of continue the mission, accelerate the mission of preparing for training and equipping, and the things we need to do to start setting that up.” Hagel said the troops moved into Anbar province over the last couple of days. He said General Lloyd Austin, the commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East, recommended the effort. The Pentagon says the U.S. military plans to train 12 brigades to fight against Islamic State militants in Iraq. Nine of those will be Iraqi Security Force brigades, while the other three will be Kurdish peshmerga forces. Carla Babb, VOA news, Fort Irwin, California. European Union foreign ministers moved Monday to ratchet up sanctions against Russia-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine. It comes amid reports of intensified fighting in the region. The move follows elections led by the separatists earlier this month in areas under their control, which were denounced by Western governments, as well as an upsurge in fighting between rebel and government forces despite the cease-fire reached in early September. Witnesses reported fresh shelling in and around the rebel stronghold of Donetsk on Monday. Meantime, Moscow continues to deny supporting separatists in eastern Ukraine. Hong Kong police are expected to take action this week to clear areas that have been occupied by protesters since late September. News of the impending action comes as a new survey by The Chinese University of Hong Kong indicates a shift in public sentiment, with most now saying the protests should end. Leaders of the Hong Kong Federation of Students, one of the main organizers of the protests, say they are urging their followers not to resist the authorities and to avoid confrontations. The demonstrators have been calling for fully democratic elections in 2017. The European Commission has adopted protective measures to try to contain a bird flu outbreak after new cases were reported in Britain and the Netherlands. The Dutch government has reported the highly contagious H5N8 strain at a poultry farm. British authorities reported a case at [a Dutch] a duck farm in east Yorkshire. And the commission said it's probably identical. EU officials say the outbreaks may be linked to bird flu recently found in Germany. H5N8 can potentially affect humans but it has never been found in humans unlike H5N1, which has killed 400 people, mostly in Asia and the Middle East. That's the latest world news from VOA.

Celebrating the Presidency of William A. Bloodworth, Jr.
Dr. Bloodworth's teaching career spans 47 years, beginning as a public school teacher in Boerne and Port Neches, Texas, and continuing through a higher education career at East Carolina University and Central Missouri State University. He was serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Central Missouri when he was named the eighth president at then-Augusta College. He assumed the presidency on October 1, 1993. "Dr. Bloodworth is one of the longest-serving presidents in the University System of Georgia (USG). During his almost 18 years leading Augusta State University, he has worked to engineer the transformation of ASU to a vibrant university, serving not only the region, but also the state," said Chancellor Huckaby. During Dr. Bloodworth's tenure, he spearheaded over $103 million in new construction and renovations that have enhanced the learning environment for ASU students. A new Science Hall, two classroom replacement buildings (Allgood and University Halls), a new student activities center, new golf practice facilities and golf house, a golf pavilion, an amphitheatre, a museum, History Walk, a new art gallery and studios, and other renovations produced state-of-the-art facilities for student study, research, and activities while transforming the appearance of campus. Dr. Bloodworth has overseen the transition from a college to a state university, the development of new programs, new program accreditations, and an entry into online class offerings, while keeping the needs and opportunities of ASU's students, challenges, and mission in mind. His focus on student success and access underscores a new strategic planning effort that will guide campus development through 2015. "His steady hand and forward-thinking leadership has benefitted thousands of students. We appreciate his leadership and his stewardship," said Chancellor Huckaby. "Dr. Bloodworth's leadership extends to fundraising where he has been instrumental in developing community partnerships and relationships," said Helen Hendee, vice president for development and alumni relations. He is in his second year of serving as the national president of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and largest interdisciplinary honor society. He also is active in the university's chapter of the organization. Earlier this year, he was recognized by Leadership Augusta with a Community Leadership Award for his work to improve the community. He serves or has served on a number of area boards including the Metro Augusta Chamber of Commerce, Augusta Neighborhood Improvement Corp., the American Red Cross, Historic Augusta, the Greater Augusta Arts Council, CSRA Development Companies, and the CSRA Regional Education Service Agency. Dr. Bloodworth is a member of Augusta Tomorrow and the Rotary Club of Augusta. In 1998, he was named a Brevet Colonel and honorary member of the Signal Corps Regiment at Fort Gordon. He is the author of two books, Upton Sinclair (1997) and Max Brand (1993) and of many articles. In 2003, he appeared on national television as Upton Sinclair's biographer when The Learning Channel featured Sinclair's The Jungle in its Great Books series. A native of San Antonio, Texas, he obtained a bachelor's degree in English and Education from Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas, a master's degree in English from Lamar University in Beaumont, and a doctoral degree in American Civilization from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2009, he was named a distinguished alumnus of Texas Lutheran University. Dr. Bloodworth is a frequent speaker on higher education issues, and his personal experience as a first-generation college student seeps into his role as a president and as a teacher. "There is no greater joy than knowing you have played a role in changing lives," he has said. "That's the power of education."

VOA news for Thursday, November 13th, 2014
Thanks to http://gandalf.ddo.jp/ for audio and text Thursday, November 13th, 2014 From Washington, this is VOA news. European space probe lands on comet. Afghan opium production soars. I'm Ray Kouguell reporting from Washington. A European Space Agency probe made a historic landing on a comet, but its status remains unclear after harpoons failed to anchor it to the surface. ESA officials say the lander, known as Philae, touched down Wednesday on Comet 67P after a seven-hour descent from its orbiting mother ship, Rosetta. But during the free fall to the comet's surface, harpoons designed to anchor the probe failed to deploy. Officials say the craft may have briefly lifted off after the initial landing before touching back down again. Lisa Bryant reports on the climax of a decade-long trip. It was celebration time at the European Space Agency's mission control in Darmstadt, Germany. After tense hours monitoring their computer screens, controllers finally got the signals they were hoping for, showing that the 100-kilogram Philae spacecraft had landed on Comet 67P. The touchdown is a first in space history. The landing was the combination of a 10-year, 6 billion-kilometer journey across space by ESA's Rosetta spacecraft to reach the comet. Lisa Bryant, Paris. By exploring the comet, scientists hope to get insights into the earliest phases of our solar system. The U.S. Military says it's conducted 16 airstrikes in Syria since Monday, most around the heavily contested town of Kobani near the Turkish border. The U.S. Central Command says 10 of the strikes hit eight Islamic State units, damaged three fighting positions and destroyed an Islamic State logistics facility. The U.S. Military also says seven other airstrikes were carried out on Islamic State units in oil-producing regions in northern Iraq. This is VOA news. The World Health Organization says the number of people who have died of the Ebola virus is now more than 5,000 out of just over 14,000 cases. A WHO report says the actual death toll is likely far higher as many people are reluctant to seek treatment for the virus. President Obama is in Myanmar, also known as Burma, where regional leaders have opened the annual summit meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Mr. Obama is expected to hold talks this week with President Thein Sein and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Earlier in Beijing, President Obama and China's President Xi Jinping reached agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change. President Obama says the U.S. agreed to cut emissions by 26 to 28 percent by 2025. President Xi Jinping says his country's CO2 emissions will peak by 2030. The U.N. Peacekeeping chief is urging the Security Council to extend the mandate of its 7,000-member peacekeeping force in Liberia. Margaret Besheer has more. Head of U.N. Peacekeeping, Hervé Ladsous, told the Security Council on Wednesday that plans to continue to gradually draw down the mission have been put on hold as Liberia struggles to cope with an Ebola outbreak that has killed more than 2,800 people. "We are of the view that it would be appropriate to extend the mandate of UNMIL until September, 2015.” The mission has been in the West African country for more than a decade, helping the authorities rebuilding and developing capacity of state institutions, and maintaining law and order. Margaret Besheer, VOA news, the United Nations. The United Nations says opium production in Afghanistan hit a new high this year, raising questions about the internationally-founded counter-narcotic strategy in the country. Ayaz Gul has details. The U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime says the opium harvest in Afghanistan jumped 17 percent from last year and the increased cultivation could produce up to 6,400 tons of narcotics. The U.N. agency's regional representative, Andrey Avetisyan, called for finding better ways to fight drugs inside and beyond Afghanistan together with the Afghan government. "Without tackling the problem of drugs seriously, no serious economic achievement is possible.” Avetisyan said political will and readiness are needed from the Afghan government and people for the anti-drugs fight to succeed. Ayaz Gul, for VOA news, Islamabad. Israeli authorities are given preliminary approval for the construction of 200 new homes in a Jewish area of East Jerusalem. The move comes at a time of already heightened tensions with Palestinians. There has been no immediate comment from Palestinian officials. I'm Ray Kouguell in Washington. That's the latest world news from VOA.

R2P or: How the Left Learned to Stop Worrying and Embrace Wars of Imperial Aggression
SHOW NOTES and MP3: https://www.corbettreport.com/?p=4350 If the last three years have taught us anything, it is that the so-called anti-war liberal left can be made to become cheerleaders for the same war agenda that they pretended to deride during the Bush Administration. How was this accomplished? A developing doctrine of international law called “Responsibility to Protect.” Join us this week as we expose the liberal “war is peace” agenda and ponder how best to disarm it.

Switch Gears Clemson Presentation — Jack Cebe
The transportation plan developed for this project shows how a small, rural university town like Clemson, SC can switch gears from a car-driven local transportation system to one that promotes and supports walking, biking, and bus transportation. This would be done through two strategies: simplifying and multiplying transportation options. This strategy permeates through several scales of the plan. At the largest scale, the plan proposes creating a transportation gradient, one that begins with a bike and pedestrian core and fades outward into bus and then car emphasis zones. While each zone would accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists, busses, and cars to some degree, facilities within each zone would be designed to optimize travel for its designated mode. This proposed transportation plan provides both direct and indirect benefits for Clemson. It provides safe, efficient, and equitable transportation for Clemson students and full-time residents. It will provide savings by reducing the amount of spending on car infrastructure. It will stimulate the local economy by saving individuals money on transportation and attracting new residents, students, and visitors. It will free up open space for new infill development on campus by reducing the need for expansive and expensive parking lots. Lastly, it provides healthier lifestyle choices for the students and residents of Clemson.

Jean-Michel Cousteau at TEDxRio+20
At 74 years old, Jean-Michel Cousteu, son of the explorer Jacques Cousteau, till considers himself to be a sponge that is always absorbing new lessons, like children do. From a childhood in a family that is dedicated to the oceans he brings exceptional experiences, such as arriving late to school because he was hunting octopus, that he sold after class to the police chief. But the memory of living in connection to the oceans is crystal clear: without water, there is no live and the water on Earth is only one. At 61 years old, the environmental activist founded the Ocean Futures Society, a non-profit organization that seeks sustainable solutions for the ocean and marine life. "Everything is interconnected and we are not just visitors on this planet. Those who protect the oceans are protecting themselves," he teaches. Check out my Patreon page if you want to further support me! https://www.patreon.com/brendans27 This is a drum cover of the song "Filthy" by Justin Timberlake off of the 2018 upcoming album "Man of the Woods". First one of the year! I was planning for a different first video, but two new songs came out that I just had to cover. This was particular difficult for me to do, because it's so stripped down instrumental wise that I had to come up with different parts throughout the song to keep it entertaining, at least for me haha. But with the challenge, came a great outcome, as this is another video that I'm proud of how well it came out. If you like it, feel free to comment and share. Hope you enjoy!!
