How To Test For Leaky Gut Syndrome

02:05
Greetings. New Zealand naturopath, Eric Bakker, author of Candida Crusher and formulator of the Canxida range of dietary supplements. I’m going to talk about how to test for leaky gut syndrome. A common test that is performed by many naturopaths is the lactulose-mannitol test, so these are two sugars that are not really digested in the body. You basically take them in and pass them out. You drink a mixture of these two sugars, and the urine is collected for six hours thereafter. Lactulose is the larger sugar and you shouldn’t really pass that out through the urine. If you’re going to pass that out, it means that you’ve got permeability of the small intestine. So that’s one simple way to find out if you’ve got leaky gut syndrome or not. Quite an impressive test to do. If you’re interested in doing a test, you can contact your naturopath or your health care provider to find out. Stool testing is another way I can really pick up leaky gut with patients by looking at the bacteria, at the IGA, and many other different markers that will show me what type of digestive function the patient has. And generally, most patients I see with chronic Candida have got leaky gut syndrome. Usually, I’ll do the stool test up front and not worry too much about the leaky gut test. It’s more important for me to get all the facts pertaining to the case, and particularly to get the bacterial balance right to see how high their IGA is, if their immune system is upregulated or downregulated. Also, to see what the amylase is, the pancreatic enzyme, we can pick up in the stool. And we can pick the colon health up. We can look at what we call short chain fatty acids or products of bacterial fermentation. We can see that in the stool results as well. The whole health of the gut is important to me, not just the small intestine. But if you want to know if you have got leaky gut syndrome, just do the lactulose and mannitol test. It’s quite a simple test to do. Cirrhosis of the Liver Nursing Care Management Symptoms NCLEX

34:23
Cirrhosis of the liver nursing NCLEX review over the symptoms, nursing care/management, pathophysiology, complications, and treatments. Cirrhosis is a liver disease where liver cells become extremely damaged due to long-term/severe damage. This damage can be from a viral infection (Hepatitis B or C), heavy alcohol consumption, obesity, hyperlipidemia, bile duct problem, autoimmune etc. These damaged liver cells are replaced with fibrous tissue, and this leads to scarring of the liver. The role of the liver is to filter the blood and perform the following functions to it: metabolizing, detoxifying, storing, producing etc. When liver cells are damaged these processes do not happen. Complications of cirrhosis include: portal hypertension, splenomegaly, ascites, jaundice, hepatic encephalopathy, esophageal varices etc. All of these conditions are discussed in depth in the video. During the early stages of cirrhosis the patient may be asymptomatic, however, in the late stages the patient will have signs and symptoms that include: asterixis, fetor hepaticus, jaundice, reduced platelets and white blood cells, spider angiomas, ascites, gynecomastia, increase ammonia level etc. Nursing interventions for cirrhosis include monitoring for bleeding, abnormal glucose levels, implementing a proper diet: if patient has confusion (hepatic encephalopathy) they need a low protein diet, however, if patient isn't confused they need a high lean protein diet, low sodium, fluid restriction, assessing for rupture of varices, administering lactulose etc. Treatment for cirrhosis includes a liver transplant and medications such as diuretics, blood products, vitamin K, beta blocker or nitrates. In addition to a paracentesis. which helps remove fluid from the abdomen, if ascites is present. Lactitol is a sugar alcohol used as a replacement bulk sweetener for low calorie foods with approximately 40% of the sweetness of sugar. It is also used medically as a laxative. Lactitol, an unabsorbed sugar with defined laxative threshold and superior taste properties has been suggested as an alternative to lactulose. The side effects of lactitol include flatulence, bloating, abdominal cramps, or diarrhea. The side effects of lactitol include flatulence, bloating, abdominal cramps, or diarrhea. The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Lactitol Monohydrate are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Abdominal distension, Flatulence, Nausea, Vomiting, Dyspepsia, Cramps, Epigastric pain, Abdominal discomfort, Anal pruritus, dyspepsia. Lactitol is contraindicated in patients with galactosemia, iatrogenic hypersensitivity, intestinal obstruction and abdominal pain or bleeding. Ispaghula husk is the seed coats of the plant Plantago ovata Forssk. The husk is obtained by powdering the seed coats. Ispaghula husk is generally used for the treatment of habitual constipation (constipation not caused by a physical change to an organ) and as a stool softener to reduce pain while motion (as in anal fissures, hemorrhoids and after surgery to the anus or rectum). It can be used in people requiring more dietary fiber, such as patients with irritable bowel syndrome who are suffering from constipation or in combination with diet in patients with hypercholesterolemia (high blood cholesterol levels). Ispaghula husk should be taken with plenty of liquid. It should be taken during the day at least half an hour to one hour before or after taking other medicines and not immediately before bedtime. It should only be used in adults and children over the age of 12 years. Side effects have been reported with ispaghula husk medicines, including flatulence and abdominal distension (swelling of the belly). There is a risk of a build-up of hard, dry stool, particularly if Ispaghula husk is swallowed without enough liquid. Allergic reactions including rhinitis (runny nose), conjunctivitis (reddening and inflammation of the white of the eye), bronchospasm (excessive and prolonged contraction of the airway muscles) and anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction) may also occur. Laxatives (of any kind) should be used in children only when deemed absolutely necessary and only under medical supervision.

LEXY Solution review in Hindi रोज सुबह पेट साफ करने के लिये जबरदस्त दवा !

02:02
LEXY Solution review in Hindi रोज सुबह पेट साफ करने के लिये जबरदस्त दवा ! Lactulose is a type of sugar. It is broken down in the large intestine into mild acids that draw water into the colon, which helps soften the stools. LEXY Solution is used to treat chronic constipation. LEXY Solution may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide. You should not use this medication if you are on a special diet low in galactose (milk sugar). Before taking LEXY Solution tell your doctor if you have diabetes or if you need to have any type of intestinal test using a scope (such as a colonoscopy). It may take up to 48 hours before you have a bowel movement after taking this medicine. Stop using LEXY Solution and call your doctor at once if you have severe or ongoing diarrhea. The liquid form of LEXY Solution may become slightly darker in color, but this is a harmless effect. However, do not use the medicine if it becomes very dark, or if it gets thicker or thinner in texture. If you use LEXY Solution over a long period of time, your doctor may want you to have occasional blood tests. Do not miss any scheduled appointments

Health Benefits of Parsnips | 5 Incredible Benefits of Parsnips

05:32
Health Benefits of Parsnips | 5 Incredible Benefits of Parsnips. Parsnips are a root vegetable that are native to Eurasia and have been used extensively in that region since ancient times. It is closely related to carrots and parsley, and for that reason, it is often mistaken for carrots in historical records. However, it is a hardy annual or biennial plant with a number of culinary applications. It was even used as a sweetening agent for foods before cane sugar became a major import to Europe. You will still often find parsnips as a main vegetable dish in many nations of Europe, particularly in the United Kingdom, where “neeps and tatties” (parsnips and potatoes) is one of the most famous dishes in Scotland. Parsnips can be eaten raw, as with carrots, but most of the common culinary applications require the root vegetable to be cooked. While they are often substituted for carrots in recipes, they are slightly sweeter in taste than carrots, which makes them even more valuable and versatile. In the past, parsnips were even used in herbal medicine and as an aphrodisiac. Not only are these root vegetables delicious and useful, but they are also packed with healthy nutrients that are essential for human health, including significant levels of certain key minerals. Let’s take a closer look at exactly which nutrients parsnips contain. These versatile vegetables contain high levels of potassium, manganese, magnesium, phosphorous, zinc, and iron, in addition to an impressive range of vitamins, including vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin K, as well as high levels of fiber and some protein. Health Benefits of Parsnips. Heart Health. Everyone seems to be looking for the big secret to unlocking a healthy cardiovascular system, and while fruits and vegetables are always a good choice, parsnips make an even bigger impact than usual, given the high level of potassium, which acts as a vasodilator and reduces blood pressure, as well as stress on the heart. The high levels of folate in parsnips is the perfect complement, as it reduces homocysteine levels in the blood, which are associated with a higher risk of heart disease. Dietary Fiber. Parsnips have been praised for their high fiber content for many years, particularly because it is composed of soluble fiber, the variety that is closely associated with reducing cholesterol levels (further boosting heart health) and with a lower chance of developing diabetes. On top of that, dietary fiber is a key component of our digestive process, facilitating healthy movement of food through the digestive tract, a reduction in constipation, and the prevention of other gastrointestinal disorders. Birth Defects and Metabolism. While folate was already mentioned in conjunction with a healthier heart, it is also important to note that folate (a member of the B-vitamin family) is also connected with reducing neural tube birth defects in infants and optimizing metabolic processes related to energy production and your nervous system. Also, folate has been positively correlated with lower levels of depression in those who regularly add it to their diet. Weight Loss. As a low-calorie option with high levels of soluble fiber, parsnips fill you up and prevent the release of ghrelin, which is a “hunger” hormone. This can significantly reduce your likelihood of snacking between meals and help you with your weight loss goals. Also, the optimized digestive processes help you eliminate waste and get your nutrient uptake into peak condition to get the most healthy nutrients from your food. Immune System. Parsnips are also packed with antioxidant vitamins and organic compounds that protect the body from foreign invaders, as well as toxic byproducts from our own cellular metabolism. Vitamin C and E act as antioxidants in the body and eliminate or neutralize free radicals that can cause chronic diseases, including cancer. Vitamin C also stimulates the production of white blood cells to attack disease and foreign microbes in the body, in addition to functioning as a key element in the production of collagen, which is a fundamental building block of our body. Growth and Development. Although the content of protein isn’t impressively high in parsnips, the full range of minerals and vitamins that parsnips boasts means that it is an ideal snack or dietary addition because it can help to balance diets that may suffer from unpredictability or nutrient deficiency. Just as carrots are a great on-the-go snack, parsnips can similarly be a healthy option, rather than potato chips and junk food. SIBO breath test interpretation - Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth lab testing Schedule a FREE Consult: http://www.justinhealth.com/free-consultation In this video, Dr. Justin Marchegiani talks about the ways to interpret your SIBO Breath Test results. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) can affect many people who have digestive issues. Most people who have SIBO are diagnosed via a lactulose breath test. This lactulose breath test assesses gases produced by bacteria in the intestinal tract that has migrated their way up from the colon to the small intestine. The small intestine isn’t the normal place of inhabitance for these bacteria. While these bacteria are in the small intestine they can secrete an abnormal amount of hydrogen (H2) and methane (CH4) gases which exacerbate diarrhea or constipation. What is HYDROGEN BREATH TEST? What does HYDROGEN BREATH TEST mean?

What is HYDROGEN BREATH TEST? What does HYDROGEN BREATH TEST mean? HYDROGEN BREATH TEST meaning - HYDROGEN BREATH TEST definition - HYDROGEN BREATH TEST explanation. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A hydrogen breath test (or HBT) is used as a diagnostic tool for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and carbohydrate malabsorption, such as lactose, fructose, and sorbitol malabsorption. The test is simple, non-invasive, and is performed after a short period of fasting (typically 8–12 hours). Even though the test is normally known as a "hydrogen breath test", some physicians may also test for methane in addition to hydrogen. Many studies have shown that some patients (approximately 35% or more) do not produce hydrogen but actually produce methane. Some patients produce a combination of the two gases. Other patients, who are known as "non-responders", don't produce any gas; it has not yet been determined whether they may actually produce another gas. In addition to hydrogen and methane, some facilities also utilize carbon dioxide (CO2) in the patient's breath to determine if the breath samples that are being analyzed are contaminated (either with room air or bronchial dead space air). Testing may be administered at hospitals, clinics, physician offices or if the physician/laboratory has the proper equipment and breath collection kit, patients can collect samples at home to then be mailed in for analysis. Tests vary from country to country, so the following information is provided as a rough guide to typical uses of the hydrogen breath test: Fructose malabsorption – the patient takes a base reading of hydrogen levels in his/her breath. The patient is then given a small amount of fructose, and then required to take readings every 15, 30 or 60 minutes for two to three hours. The basis of the test is a failure to absorb the given sugar, which is then metabolized by bacteria that give off either hydrogen or methane. Therefore, the more gas that is produced, the less absorption has occurred. If the level of hydrogen rises above 20 ppm (parts per million) over the lowest preceding value within the test period, the patient is typically diagnosed as a fructose malabsorber. If the patient produces methane then the parts per million for the methane typically rises 12 ppm over the lowest preceding value to be considered positive. If the patient produces both hydrogen and methane then the values are typically added together and the mean of the numbers is used to determine positive results, usually 15 ppm over the lowest preceding value. Lactose malabsorption – the patient takes a base reading of hydrogen levels in his/her breath. The patient is then given a small amount of pure lactose (typically 20 to 25 g), and then required to take readings every 15, 30 or 60 minutes for two to three hours. If the level of hydrogen rises above 20 ppm (parts per million) over the lowest preceding value within the test period, the patient is typically diagnosed as a lactose malabsorber. Small bowel bacterial overgrowth syndrome (SBBOS) or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) – the patient is either given a challenge dose of glucose, also known as dextrose (75–100 grams), or lactulose (10 grams). A baseline breath sample is collected, and then additional samples are collected at 15 minute or 20 minute intervals for 3–5 hours. Positive diagnosis for a lactulose SIBO breath test – typically positive if the patient produces approximately 20 ppm of hydrogen and/or methane within the first two hours (indicates bacteria in the small intestine), followed by a much larger peak (colonic response). This is also known as a biphasic pattern. Lactulose is not absorbed by the digestive system and can help determine distal end bacterial overgrowth, which means the bacteria are lower in the small intestine.....

How to Read a Syringe 3 ml, 1 ml, Insulin, & 5 ml/cc | Reading a Syringe Plunger

07:08
Learn how to read a syringe: This video will explain how to read different nursing syringe sizes such as the 3 mL, 1 mL, 5 mL, 10 mL, and Insulin syringes (100 units). As the nurse, it is very important you know how to correctly read a syringe when drawing up medications. A syringe consists of various parts such as the adapter (which is where you draw up and injection the medication), barrel (which has a scale on it that allows you to measure the medication), plunger (which assists in drawing up and measuring the medication). Syringes consist of different measuring scales. For example, most 3 mL syringes measure each line as 0.1 mL, while 1 mL syringes measure each line as 0.01 mL. A 3 mL syringe is best for giving medications that require you draw up 0.5 mL of a medication. While a 1 mL syringe is best for giving medications that require you draw up small amounts like 0.25 mL. This video is a quick and concise guide on using and calibrating your Gastro+ Gastrolyzer. Applications The Gastro+ hydrogen breath test can be used to detect Fructose intolerance and fructose malabsorption Lactose intolerance and lactose malabsorption Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth Intestinal transit time How it works Hydrogen is produced when bacteria in the gut act on undigested carbohydrates such as lactose and fructose in the large or small intestine. The hydrogen diffuses into the blood and is carried to the alveoli in the lungs. A hydrogen breath test can then detected the amount of hydrogen in expiratory air. The Gastro+ hydrogen breath test instantly and accurately measures the amount of hydrogen in a single expired breath. Patients simply breathe into the Flatpak™ mouthpiece and the result is displayed instantly on the touch screen. The Gastro+ is a simple and affordable alternative to the traditional hydrogen breath test and invasive procedures such as biopsies. for more information please visit www.bedfont.com

The Hydrogen Breath Test for Fodmap Intolerance

05:06
http://www.strandsofmylife.com/inspired Find out about the hydrogen breath test for Fodmap malabsorption in this video. If you have irritable bowel syndrome, then you will probably be helped by the low Fodmap diet. One way to test if you mal-absorb Fodmaps is to do a hydrogen breath test. In this video, I have explained what happens during the test and what they are testing for. Transcription of video: Welcome to this video. Today, I'm going to talk about the Hydrogen Breath Test, which can test whether you have an intolerance to a couple of the FODMAP's, not all of them, but it will test for fructose and for lactose, and, in some places, it can also test for polyols or some of the polyols. I had it done in New Zealand, my home country, and that was not the case. They just test for fructose and lactose here. It's done over 3 days, and you have to stay there round about 3 hours for each of the days. So you have to set aside quite a space of time, and it's not cheap either. Here in New Zealand it was $300 or $400, something like that. On the first day, they test you with lactulose. So they're just testing your levels of hydrogen or methane, which is what you breathe out from the digestion of foods. And I think it's about a third of the population breath out methane, and I'm one of those, and the rest breath out hydrogen from the process of digestion. So they want to see what a baseline is for you, because lactulose is not something that you would react from. It wouldn't cause the fermentation that FODMAPs can create. So, they test that first, and then you go back for a second time and for me they tested fructose next. They give you a drink, quite a big drink, a very, very sweet drink of fructose, and then they test your breath every 15 minutes to see what the levels of, in my case, methane are, because if you're not managing to absorb the fructose in the small intestine, then it's going down into the large intestine where it starts to ferment. And those gases that are created down there are absorbed into the system and you actually breathe them out reasonably quickly, and that would mean that your levels of methane or hydrogen would go up. And in my case, they went up quite considerably, and they kept testing me for the whole 3 hours and I was pretty sick during that time because I was not really absorbing the fructose at all. And then I went back the next time, but they leave a gap of about a week in between, so that you can completely settle your system again. They do give you a diet for, I think it's just the day before, to make sure that, in the second case, that you don't have any lactose in your system when you go for the test. So I went to the second test feeling very worried about it because of my experience from the first test, although I was fairly sure that I actually didn't have an intolerance to lactose. You kind of know some of these things and I'd always been able to drink milk and not have anything terrible immediately happen. Anyway, so they gave me a big glass of the lactose, it's not milk, but lactose. It was a clear liquid. And then they do the same thing, they test you every 15 minutes to see what your hydrogen or methane levels are. In my case, nothing happened really. I felt fine the whole way through for the 3 hours, but they kept me there for 3 hours. Sometimes they don't need you that long. And then, in my case, because I was a methane breather, they had to send that away to get analyzed at another lab. If it was hydrogen, they would've done it right there and then and would've given you the results, but I had to wait a couple of weeks. But by then, I knew anyway, I was mal-absorbing fructose, but not lactose. Anyway, so that's what the hydrogen breath test is. And, as I said, it's fairly expensive, so if you don't want to do it that way, you can just do the elimination diet instead, because you have to do that anyway to see if you're malabsorbing the other FODMAP's like fructan and the other polyols and the galacto-oligosaccharides, which are the legumes. So you might as well do the elimination diet anyway. And if you have any intolerance to any of those FODMAP's, then the FODMAP diet is for you, but you can tailor it to suit yourself. Thank you very much for listening to this video and please, if you have IBS, the low-FODMAP diet is the very best solution for you. Goodbye.
