But now we know I am allergic to dairy, corn, egg, soy, cats, grass, trees, dust. I have about 15 environmentals; I have a whole multitude of them. So the testing was very thorough here and everything has been getting better just in the year that I've been coming here and taking the drops." https://lacrosseallergy.com/

Reintroducing a Dog at Allergy Associates of La Crosse

01:49
When Drew was one, his reactions to his puppy were so bad that they had to get rid of the family dog. After 3 years of treatment, Drew was surprised with a new puppy! It's possible to live healthfully with pets. https://lacrosseallergy.com/why-the-la-crosse-method/treating-allergy-conditions/pet-allergy/ "When he as about a year old we had brought home a puppy. And the weekend that we brought the puppy home, he happened to have a cold. The cold went from a cold to this catastrophic – taking him to the pediatrician daily to check his oxygen saturation levels, and get a steroid shot. In my head, as a mom, I thought, I wonder if this is the puppy too. So, we did get rid of the dog about a year after we had her. We really had hoped that we would be able to have a dog someday. 2 or 3 years after we started the treatment, Dr. Mary signed off on us getting a dog. That was a pretty big event. That’s my favorite thing that has happened so far, ever since I came here. The dog that we had gotten rid of, the breeder had kept her full sister, and she was having her last litter around the time we were hoping to get approval. The breeder greeted us and then we went to the backyard. There was this huge place with all these toys for puppies and they were running around. So mom and dad let us run around for a bit. We all agreed that we loved this one with the little red collar the most. We took a bunch of pictures. After the last picture, mom just said, 'hey guys, that one’s yours!' And mom’s like, 'yeah! That one’s yours!'" https://lacrosseallergy.com/

00:56
Marika experienced 8 sinus infections a year. After only 1 year on allergy drops, she has nearly eliminated sinus infections all together! https://lacrosseallergy.com/why-the-la-crosse-method/treating-allergy-conditions/sinusitis/ "So, before I came here I had chronic sinus infections. It was never colds, it was sinus infections. I would get over 8 a year; it was ridiculous amounts. Once I started coming to Allergy Associates, because we were getting my allergies under control, I wasn't getting so much post nasal drip. Everything was getting better. This past year I got one sinus infection., it's great. I'm not having to do a Neti Pot like I had to do every day, I don't have to do that anymore. So I'm really not doing anything special besides taking my drops. It's been a really, really positive experience." https://lacrosseallergy.com/

How to Administer Allergy Drops

01:28
Dr. Mary S. Morris of Allergy Associates of La Crosse describes how to administer sublingual immunotherapy treatment. Also commonly referred to as allergy drops, the treatment is custom-tailored for allergic individuals and helps them build tolerance to the things they are allergic to. Dr. Mary S. Morris treats thousands of patients annually with sublingual immunotherapy treatment and is one of the La Crosse Method founders. https://lacrosseallergy.com/what-to-expect/how-to-take-your-drops/ "The La Crosse Method, which is what has been developed in our clinic over the last 40 years, is a conservative dosing protocol. When I'm explaining to patients how to take the drops, I often have a sample bottle that I'll show them. There's a little locking device to keep it from accidentally discharging the liquid. The top is a metered dose pump with a very precise amount of extract that's delivered. We ask that patients hold it for about 20 to 30 seconds before they swallow, which coincidentally seems to be the same length as the Happy Birthday song or the ABCs. We think that frequency is a very important part of our La Crosse Treatment method. If possible, we like to separate the doses out three times a day. If a person can't do the middle dose of the day, we do allow them to do double the dose at bedtime. The interesting thing is that although the person does the same way of administering the drops throughout the treatment, the concentration of the extracts is increased or escalated over the course of treatment." https://lacrosseallergy.com/
Treating Severe Mold Allergy at Allergy Associates of La Crosse

01:21
Kathleen stopped in to Allergy Associates on her way home from visiting her grandchildren in New Mexico. Because of her severe allergies, she was never able to stay for the duration of the trip. But this time, she did! https://lacrosseallergy.com/why-the-la-crosse-method/treating-allergy-conditions/mold-allergy/ "I was referred to Dr. Mary by my allergy doctor back home, who is in Marinette, Wisconsin. It’s about a five hour drive to get here and I was a little worried and skeptical about having to drive that distance, but Dr. Mary is a specialist in mold allergies which was my biggest problem. I had started to use my nebulizer up to 4 times a day, my puffers constantly, and I was on prednisone. Four years in a row I had fallen because I get so dizzy in the fall. I broke bones, dislocated my shoulder, I stopped breathing, and Dr. Mary has been miraculous for me. She’s gotten a handle on things. I just got back from visiting my grandchildren in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I haven’t been able to go there for a long time because the altitude really affects me. And I spent a week with them without the use of any puffers or any nebulizer. It was awesome." https://lacrosseallergy.com/
Jeff Kessler on Allergy Associates of La Crosse

Allergy Associates of La Crosse is one of the few allergy clinics in America that treats patients for both environmental and food allergies solely through sublingual immunotherapy. https://lacrosseallergy.com/what-to-expect/financial-policy-insurance-information/saving-money-and-your-health-with-allergy-drops/ "I've spent my whole career in healthcare and I look for things that I think are going to make a difference, a significant difference, in how we can help people. The cost of of health care, I think that's a huge challenge that we have especially now with everything that's going on with healthcare reform. And I came here and I saw what this group was doing, this was 10 years ago, and they are so far ahead in terms of their ability to treat the complex patient. I could see the economics of this, I could see how this impacts the patient's lives, I could particularly see how it impacts employers or anybody that's paying the health care premium, if you will. So it's an employer, it could be the government, Medicare, Medicaid, doesn't really matter but such an enormous impact to get people to be fully healthy again. I think that's that's what drew me here more than anything else and then of course I went through the process with my own family and saw just a complete transformation in terms of my daughter's allergies and what she was able to do in her life. You know, it was it was a business aspect when I first looked at this and it turns into much more than that every day that I get a chance to be here and talk to patients and see what kinds of success that we've helped them have and what they've been able to do in their lives and how thankful they are. Well, that makes it all worthwhile." https://lacrosseallergy.com/

Allergist Appointment and Shortness of Breath

Went to the allergist today. Was a follow up appointment about my asthma, but I mentioned the shortness of breath I've been having. Everything checked out with my lungs and the albuterol breathing treatment didn't help, so she recommended a cardiologist and full heart workup. I've already got an echo scheduled next month though, so my primary care wants me to wait until that comes back before proceeding there

Dr. Theodor Habel on Sublingual Immunotherapy

Dr. Theodor Habel discusses how his personal experiences with sublingual immunotherapy led him to become an allergist at Allergy Associates of La Crosse. https://lacrosseallergy.com/why-the-la-crosse-method/treating-allergy-conditions/ragweed-allergy/ "I started out working in family practice and I enjoyed that. Because of interest I started out working in family practice and I enjoyed that. Because of interest medicine. I had severe problems with seasonal allergy and Dr. Morris offered to help me with that and, because of the success with the sublingual treatment and especially with the high potency approach that speeds up the treatment, I was very impressed and felt that this is something that could help a lot of people. When I started working with him full time I was impressed with the success that we had with the vast majority of patients that came, often from long distances away, and it has been a delight to work in a field where we can offer significant help to people who have a been unsuccessful in obtaining good relief. I see myself as being exhibited "A" in terms of having allergies and having used this method and a having obtained the impressive results for all practice of practical purposes. I have no problem whatsoever with allergies anymore. I used to take my vacation during the height of the ragweed season because of the difficulty I had with the symptoms." https://lacrosseallergy.com/

Allergic Disease: On the Increase

01:02:28
'Allergic diseases are common and increasing for reasons which currently remain unknown. For example, 20% of adults have hay fever, 10% of infants aged 12 months have a confirmed food allergy, 20% of infants have eczema and up to 3% of the population has had serious allergic reactions to insect stings (mainly adults).' Allergies and Anaphylaxis Australia Allergic disease already affects one in five Australians, and the rate is rising; the highest prevalence is in the working-age population, though food allergies particularly affect children, and occur at a rate higher than in any other country. Other common allergic conditions are eczema, asthma and hay fever. Effects range from mild to life-threatening, including anaphylactic reactions to particular food groups, insect stings, or medications. These diseases impact significantly on the quality of life of those who have the condition as well as those who care for them. For people in rural areas, there are greater challenges to the management of allergic conditions. These include distance from medical attention and hospitals, limited access to health professionals, difficulty in limiting exposure to seasonal and occupational triggers, and less convenient access to education and information about their condition. While there is no 'cure', there are medications and treatment interventions that can relieve symptoms and reduce serious reactions. Correct diagnosis and identification of the allergenic trigger factors is essential so that patients and their families can develop appropriate self-management strategies. Together with education and support, such interventions can establish a context for appropriate management, medication, and prevention strategies. They are vital as these conditions continue to increase in prevalence and impact on the community. This program explores the range of allergic conditions, with a particular focus on the high rates of allergic reaction in children. It considers recent research on the causes of rising rates of allergic reaction and the role of diet in affecting sensitivity. It also discusses the importance of diagnostic testing, careful history-taking, and the development of individually-tailored management plans, including medications. This program also explores the particular issues facing rural people who suffer from allergic conditions. More information visit the Rural Health Education Foundation http://www.rhef.com.au
Allergies, Asthma and Sublingual Immunotherapy with Dr. Sabnis

01:02
Asthma is the most common chronic childhood disease, tripling in the number affected since 1980. The only long-term way to prevent the long-term effects of asthma is to treat the underlying cause of the inflammation, such as avoidance of tobacco exposure or in the case of people with allergies, reducing allergen exposure and treating the underlying allergic sensitivity with immunotherapy. https://lacrosseallergy.com/why-the-la-crosse-method/treating-allergy-conditions/asthma/ "Allergy solutions brought to you by the leaders in allergy care, Allergy Associates of La Crosse. Allergies and asthma are connected and interrelated, especially in pediatric age group. Allergies kind of begin may begin early in life. Sometimes it may start as a food allergy sometimes it may start as eczema in the second year of life. Then it might progress to allergic rhinitis and sinusitis, and then it might even progress to asthma. Atopic march generally is not seen by parents, it is usually seen by the physician. Once we diagnose it, once we know what causes it, then the treatment is relatively simple. Our treatment consists of giving incremental doses of allergens that you are allergic to, to induce tolerance in the system. For more than 40 years, Allergy Associates of La tolerance in the system. For more than 40 years, Allergy Associates of La Crosse has provided effective, innovative, allergy treatment." https://lacrosseallergy.com/
Allergies and Headaches by Dr. George Kroker

01:02
Some types of headaches can be related to allergic disease, including sinus headaches and migraines. https://lacrosseallergy.com/why-the-la-crosse-method/treating-allergy-conditions/headaches/ "Allergy solutions brought to you by the leaders in allergy care, Allergy Associates of La Crosse. Headaches are a common symptom in a lot of allergy patients and certainly we'll see varieties of headaches that can be associated with allergies. Sinus headaches can be a common manifestation of allergic conditions and then sometimes migraine headaches can also be a manifestation of allergies as well. If there are hints that there are dietary or environmental factors that aggravate the headaches, then you may want to consider seeing an allergist. Finding out what someone is allergic to and offering allergy drop treatment, or sublingual immunotherapy, we feel that that can be disease-modifying, meaning that it can change the disease for the that can be disease-modifying, meaning that it can change the disease for the remission phase. For more than 40 years, Allergy Associates of La Crosse has provided effective, innovative, allergy treatment." https://lacrosseallergy.com/
Dr. George Kroker on Sublingual Immunotherapy

01:51
Dr. George Kroker of Allergy Associates of La Crosse reveals one of his favorite parts about treating his patients. He also explains some of the benefits of sublingual immunotherapy, also known as allergy drops. https://lacrosseallergy.com/why-the-la-crosse-method/who-benefits-from-sublingual-immunotherapy/ "I think the greatest thrill I can have with a patient is to see someone new who has a really tough problem and as we get talking I begin to piece the story together in my mind. Having done it for 30 years or so you can begin to see the pieces fall into place as the patient is telling their story and you begin to realize that you have something to offer that patient. You begin to explain a little bit for example of building block theory and you see that aha moment and the eyes light up and the patient kind of recognizes there is something to all of this. The therapy we offer is safe, effective, it's fun to give because you know in general it's going to work well and patients are compliant in taking a therapy if its painless. Again, in our own clinic, it's a different paradigm. In most allergy clinics that I'm aware of, the idea is first medication to control symptoms, second environmental control or elimination of things, and then third tier and the last tier for an exclusive maybe five to seven ten percent of patients, is immunotherapy. That's understandable because injection therapy is fraught with inconvenience, pain, and the potential for severe reactions. Now we take that paradigm and flip it 180 degrees around. So we offer immunotherapy first because it's disease modifying, it can help the patient establish tolerance to things they don't tolerate, it's painless, and it's very effective." https://lacrosseallergy.com/
Allergy Drops for Pediatric Patients with Dr. Sabnis

01:01
To date, more than 125,000 patients at Allergy Associates of La Crosse have been treated with sublingual immunotherapy for environmental and food allergies over the last four decades with excellent results. This treatment, which is easy to implement and free of significant side effects, has led to improved quality of life and lessened disease morbidity. https://lacrosseallergy.com/why-the-la-crosse-method/treating-allergy-conditions/pediatric-allergy/ "Allergy solutions brought to you by the leaders in allergy care, Allergy Associates of La Crosse. The prevalence of allergy in the pediatric population is pretty common. They can be divided into two groups, the airborne and fundamental allergens, we call them aeroallergens, and they can be foods. Some kids will outgrow food allergies but some will not and that's why you need to take a proper history, do the skin testing, do blood testing, and put all these things together to arrive at a clinical judgment. The allergy drops is like a godsend for our children. It is such a common and highly prevalent disease and with the help the drops you can intervene so early in life and prevent the progression. For more than 40 years, Allergy Associates of La Crosse has provided effective, innovative allergy treatment." https://lacrosseallergy.com/

About Food Allergy Drops with Dr. Mary Morris

01:02
For those with mild to moderate allergies, it can be possible to reintroduce allergic foods into one's diet, while those with severe and life-threatening allergies, the goal may be to reduce the likelihood of an allergic reaction to an accidental exposure. https://lacrosseallergy.com/why-the-la-crosse-method/treating-allergy-conditions/food-allergies/ "Allergy solutions brought to you by the leaders in allergy care, Allergy Associates of La Crosse. Allergies tend to run in families. The most common food allergies are to common things like egg, milk, wheat, corn, yeast, soy, and peanut. I think people are unaware that foods can fairly cause and commonly cause itching in the mouth. Even some swelling and inflammation in the esophagus can occur with food allergies. With the food allergy drops, basically, they contain small amounts of what the person's allergic to. For really severe food allergies, we have to start at extremely small amounts, even into the microgram range, and then as they gain tolerance we gradually give them more and more with the hope that eventually they will be able to tolerate it in their diet. For more than 40 years, Allergy Associates of La Crosse has provided effective, innovative, allergy treatment." https://lacrosseallergy.com/
Dr. Mary Morris on Sublingual Immunotherapy

02:22
Dr. Mary Morris has been working at Allergy Associates of La Crosse since she was 13 years old. Her father, Dr. David Morris, founded the clinic in 1972. Dr. Mary explains that treating allergies through sublingual immunotherapy has been rewarding for both her and her patients. https://lacrosseallergy.com/about-us/history/ "My father started the clinic, he was a real pioneer in this way of treating allergies. Instead of using the allergy shots, he found over the years that allergy drops provided a method that allowed us to treat for certain types of allergies that aren't amenable to being treated with allergy shots. I started working at the clinic when I was 13 years old. I worked every Saturday and then all during the summer. I like to say that I can do every job in the clinic. I started filing charts, I put patients in rooms, I cleaned the rooms I made drops, I think I've done pretty much every job there is in the clinic. I continued to do that actually all the way through college, I worked in the summer months at the clinic and I think that was very influential in my deciding to go to medical school. I had the opportunity of working with my dad and then at that time Dr. Kroker as well before I went off to college and decided to go into medicine. I decided to pursue internal medicine which certainly I use every day that type of general knowledge in our clinic. Then after our first child was born I decided that it would be nice to come back and work with my father, be closer to family, and certainly with the experience that I had for man. many years working in the clinic, I knew that the success the patients were many years working in the clinic, I knew that the success the patients were as well. When I walk in the room and see a child that had horrible eczema and suddenly their skin is clear and they're able to have normal activities and do everything a kid should do, that makes it all worthwhile." https://lacrosseallergy.com/
Environmental Allergies and Sublingual Immunotherapy with Dr. Kroker

01:03
In the U.S., 20% of adults and nearly 40% of children are affected by environmental allergies. Many people with mild to severe environmental allergies look to sublingual immunotherapy when avoiding their allergies and treating with medication such as anti-histamines are not working. https://lacrosseallergy.com/why-the-la-crosse-method/treating-allergy-conditions/environmental-allergies/ "Allergy solutions brought to you by the leaders in allergy care, Allergy Associates of La Crosse. Environmental allergies are probably one of the most common diseases that American face. Well, about one in 5 of 50 million Americans have got some form of allergic disease. Common ones that patients can suffer from can be, first of all, seasonal allergens that you would have in the air. This can include tree and grass pollens in the spring. It can include fall pollens and any time the ground is above freezing you can have mold in the air. This can be present from the spring through the fall. When a patient comes in and they have an allergen that they cannot avoid and it is significantly impacting their quality of life, then we offer sublingual immunotherapy, which we feel can be disease-modifying and can change their disease for the better. For more than 40 years, Allergy Associates of La Crosse has provided effective, innovative, allergy treatment." https://lacrosseallergy.com/
Dr. Vijay Sabnis on Sublingual Immunotherapy

01:38
Dr. Vijay Sabnis of Allergy Associates of La Crosse tells why sublingual immunotherapy is a viable option for children. The treatment provided at this clinic has improved the quality of life for allergic patients of all ages. https://lacrosseallergy.com/why-the-la-crosse-method/treating-allergy-conditions/pediatric-allergy/ "Almost 60% of the allergic disease begins in the pediatric age group and I always tell my patients that sublingual immunotherapy is like a godsend for children because, no shots. Therefore you can intervene very early, you can treat the root cause of the disease, you can prevent further progression of the disease. What more can you ask? I mean seeing these children coming in that these desperate parents they have seen at least 3-4 physicians before and they're being treated with a whole bunch of medications and the parents always ask 'are my children going to be on these medications for the for the rest of their lives? I want something different then. I want an alternative treatment.' This is why they come here from long distances. To see your patients who have been ill and sick and have seen many other physicians and haven't been better and then they come here, you diagnose them, you help them, not only them but their but their desperate parents, improve the quality of their life. What can be more lovable than this? This what I like the best. This is why we've been doing this for, I've been doing this for almost 30 years." https://lacrosseallergy.com/
