How safe are antibiotics in 1st trimester of pregnancy? - Dr. Phani Madhuri

Antibiotics are a group of drugs that are used to combat bacterial infections in various conditions. They could also be used in pregnancy. When it comes to regency, all the expectant mothers are worried whether they can use certain antibiotic in pregnancy or not. These group of drugs comes in various categories staring from A, B , C and X. So each drug in o particular category is either safe or unsafe. Category A and B drugs are mostly safe in pregnancy and can be used without any problem. But C and D drugs are having a little deleterious effects on the fetus compared to the other A and B drugs and it had to be very carefully used when it comes to pregnancy. Only then the potential benefits the drugs oppose to the growing fetus and the mother. Category X drugs are definitely dangerous to the fetus and they have to be avoided as they are teratogenic in the terms of causing abnormalities in the development of various organs. Coming to antibiotics in early pregnancy, the week number 8 – 10 or 7 – 11 is mostly the stage of organogenesis where all the organs are developing in a beautiful way in the fetus. So all the drugs which are in this period can have effect on the growing fetus to various degrees. So we try and avoid any drugs as much as possible, but if it is inevitable, like infections or any condition which si posing threat to the mother’s health, it is advised to use drugs in the safe categories, that is the A, B and sometimes C category drugs. Antibiotics do not affect the fetal growth, especially in the early pregnancy. It can be harmful to the organogenesis to the development of the fetus. So growth parameters are not affected in the early pregnancy , But there are a group of drugs that can cause teratogenic effects , that is abnormal effects on the fetus, that is warfarin, phenytoin, lithium, isotretinoin etc. So these drugs are to be avoided in pregnancy as far as possible. There are many antibiotics which can be used safely in pregnancy like penicillins, erythromycins, cephalosporins, metronidazole, clindamycin and various other drugs. But of course only after your gynecologist says okay with these drugs.

Is it safe to take antibiotics during 1st trimester of pregnancy? - Dr. Shefali Tyagi

01:58
You are in first three months of your pregnancy and you have developed a sore throat or you have developed a urinary tract infection and you are worried. Can I take antibiotics? Is it safe in pregnancy? So actually pregnancy is a long time. 9 month is a long period and the woman falls ill once or twice in that duration. Antibiotics are supposed to be safe in pregnancy but there are different category of drugs. So category A, B, C, D and X have been designated by the company and the other authorities to tell us which antibiotics are safe in pregnancy and which are not. The category A type of drugs which have been experimented on the humans and are found to be safer for the baby are the safest in pregnancy versus category X where the medicines have shown to have very bad effects on the baby leading to various malformation and are absolutely contraindicated. So your doctor will actually decide based in the need whether you actually need an antibiotic and then which antibiotic to use. Generally the antibiotic falls into category B or C, which is still safe but which has to be done under the supervision of a doctor. Don’t take any antibiotics without asking your doctor like over the counter how you were doing before you were pregnant. Antibiotics are safe but not all the antibiotics. Few can be really harmful for the baby, which are not allowed in pregnancy at all.

No More UTI, No More Antibiotics - I Found A Solution

07:45
I can relate to your frustration. As someone who suffered from UTIs almost every month, I finally found a solution. I haven't had a UTI in over a year! Urinary Tract Infections, also known as UTI. I wanted to share this video with those of you who suffer from UTIs. When I would get the UTI, I would have to go on antibiotics because the infection processed through my body so fast that drinking lots of water or cranberry juice did not help make it go away. For me, once I get a UTI, the only way to make it go away is to go on antibiotics. For some people, they can drink a lot of water or cranberry juice and it goes away. That just never worked with me. Prevention was my only hope. I had tried many things to prevent from getting the UTI (baking soda, cinnamon, concentrated cranberry pills, purest cranberry juice) and I would still get UTI and have to go on antibiotics over and over again. I believe taking antibiotics whether from UTI or whatever type of infections (ear infections, etc) is not good for you. It slowly breaks down your immune system and ruins your stomach. I believe it is the cause of my allergies and also causes my stomach to react unnaturally to certain foods, which I hadn't had a problem previously. I've heard that if taking antibiotics for a long time, your body becomes immune to it and one day when you need it, it won't work anymore. Sounds so scary. Therefore, I wanted to find a solution to never getting another UTI again. I have been UTI free for over 1 year now. I'm so excited to share this with especially those that are similar and also want to find a solution. This product that I use is called D-Mannose Powder and the brand is NOW. Who would have thought a simple sugar powder could help so much to the point I no longer get UTIs. Believe me, I was so skeptical at first. But I had another round of antibiotics waiting for me if it didn't work. First I followed what the suggested usage on the back of the bottle mentioned. That did not work. Then, I altered the way I take it so that it would work for me. It mentioned to take it every day as a dietary supplement. I only take it at certain times (please view my video to see details on how I made it work for me). When I mention flushing with 5 cups in my video, that means drinking 4 - 5 cups of water in 1 hour after waiting 45 minute for the teaspoon of D-Mannose to set in. This bottle is not cheap. So I wanted to make sure I only use it when needed. Not sure which way would work best for you. I'm only sharing my experience and how I have made it work for me. Disclaimer: I am not claiming that it would cure the UTI or treat the UTI. Please consult with your physician before using. I have mentioned this D-Mannose to my physician and she is happy I no longer get the UTIs. I have successfully used it to prevent me from getting a UTI for over 1 year now. You can purchase this item at a health food store called Sprouts. This is a local health food type grocery store that also sells vitamins. As mentioned in the video, I will update this description section when I know of a sale. There is currently a sale going on from 01/03/18 to 01/10/18. I believe it is 25% off. For those who do not have a Sprouts near you, you can also purchase it online. I hope this video has inspired you to find solutions. I was hesitant to put up this video because it is a very sensitive subject. But I know so many people suffer from UTIs so perhaps this video would be helpful and valuable. Take care! Cheers!

QUESTION NUMBER 1: The 33-year-old hypertensive client mentions that she thinks she is pregnant. Upon reviewing the client’s list of medications, the nurse takes note of which of medications that can be contraindicated in pregnancy? Select all that apply A. Lisinopril (Prinivil) B. Amlodipine (Norvasc) C. Metoprolol (Lopressor) D. Irbesartan (Avapro) E. Methyldopa (Aldomet) F. Simvastatin (Zocor) It is very important for women to review their medication list with their obstetrician as soon as she discovers that she is pregnant. Women should not use Prinivil if they are pregnant. Studies have proven that it could cause harm to the unborn baby. You might see Norvasc ordered for your pregnant patient. Her doctor may prescribe it when the benefit outweighs the risks. Animal studies have failed to reveal evidence of teratogenicity or fetal toxicity, however there are no controlled studies done on women. Human studies have been done on pregnant women and findings are that Norvasc Metoprolol readily crosses the placenta, but, no teratogenic effects have been reported. The data of its use during pregnancy has no controls. It may be prescribed when the benefit outweighs the risk.as there is no controlled data in human pregnancy. Avapro is in category D by the FDA. Some studies have proved increased incidence of early fetal resorptions and a decrease in live births. This drug acts directly on the renin-angiotensin system and can cause fetal and neonatal morbidity and death when administered to pregnant women so is considered contraindicated. You may find Norvasc ordered for your pregnant patient when the benefits outweigh the risk. It does pass the placenta and it occasionally causes mild hypotension in neonates of treated mothers. However, it has been safely used to treat hypertension during pregnancy and many doctors consider using it as the drug of choice for their pregnant hypertensive patients. The use of zocor during pregnancy is contraindicated. This drug is in the US FDA pregnancy categor X since studies in animals or humans have demonstrated fetal abnormalities. So, the risks involved in using Zocor during pregnancy outweigh the potential benefits. Answer: Ans.: A, D, F are contraindicated in pregnancy. Always look for phrases like “the benefits outweigh the risks” (meaning it may be prescribed) and “’the risk outweighs the benefit”; (meaning it should not be prescribed) and always closely check all drugs ordered for pregnant and lactating women.

How to Treat a Urinary Tract Infection During Pregnancy || HOME REMEDIES

06:29
How to Treat a Urinary Tract Infection During Pregnancy || HOME REMEDIES https://youtu.be/o0zjeKdkJ5k Apart from antibiotics, there are many things you can do to help treat the infection and ensure a safe pregnancy. Here are the top 10 ways to treat a urinary tract infection during pregnancy. 1. Water. When suffering from a UTI, it is important to drink enough water every day. Water intake will make you urinate more. The increase in bathroom visits helps flush bacteria out of the urethra, which helps you recover faster.Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day, or more if you sweat a lot or live in a hot climate. 2. Apple Cider Vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is useful for getting rid of many pregnancy-related problems, including a UTI. It is a rich source of enzymes that can prevent the bacteria that cause UTIs from multiplying or growing.Plus apple cider vinegar can regulate your body’s pH balance. Mix together equal amounts of unsweetened cranberry juice and apple juice. Drink it once or twice daily. If you wish to take cranberry pills or capsules, consult your doctor first. 4. Greek Yogurt. When suffering from a UTI during pregnancy, you must try to eat 1 to 2 cups of Greek yogurt daily.Being a probiotic food, Greek yogurt can boost the growth of good bacteria in the urinary tract and promote a healthy balance of bacteria in your gut. 5. Indian Gooseberry. Indian gooseberry, also known as amla, is a rich source of vitamin C and inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria that cause UTIs. Also, Indian gooseberry offers other benefits during pregnancy. It helps relieve constipation, normalize your blood pressure, reduce morning sickness, and purify your blood, to name a few. Add 1 teaspoon each of Indian gooseberry and turmeric powder to 1 cup of water. Boil the solution until half the water evaporates. Allow it to cool for some time. Drink the solution 3 times a day for 3 to 5 days 6. Blueberries. Blueberries have bacteria-inhibiting properties that can help treat a UTI during pregnancy. Blueberries are also filled with vitamin C, beta-carotene, potassium, folic acid, and antioxidants, all of which help build your baby’s healthy skin cells and immune system. Add fresh blueberries to your favorite cereal and have it for breakfast. Also, drink a glass of fresh blueberry juice twice daily, in the morning and at night, for quick results. 7. Warm Compress. Applying a warm compress on the abdomen can help minimize bladder pressure or discomfort. A warm compress also helps reduce inflammation as well as preventing the growth of the bacteria that cause the infection. Put some hot water in a flexible water bottle. Wrap the bottle in a thin towel. Apply the warm compress on your lower abdomen (over your clothing) for 5 minutes. Take a break of 5 minutes and repeat again. Do it for no longer than 20 minutes. Repeat once or twice a day. 8. Good Bathroom Habits. Good bathroom habits can play a key role in preventing and treating UTIs during pregnancy. It is also important to urinate before and after having sex. When pregnant and suffering from a bladder infection, you may have to visit the bathroom every 5 minutes. No matter how irritating it sounds, it’s important to never hold in your urine. As soon as you get the urge to pee, use the bathroom. Be sure to completely expel your urine, too. After using the washroom, wipe properly by going front to back. Do not use feminine hygiene products as well as harsh soaps or body washes in the genital area, as they can cause irritation to an already vulnerable area. Wear underwear made out of a breathable fabric like cotton to help keep the genital area dry, as bacteria thrive in moisture. 9. Vitamin C. Eating more foods rich in vitamin C during pregnancy is healthy for both you and your baby. It can also help protect against or treat UTIs. Vitamin C increases the acidity of the urine, which in turn helps destroy the bacteria that cause the infection. Also, this vitamin helps keep your immune system strong. 10. Healthy Diet. A healthy and well-balanced diet can help a lot in treating a UTI during pregnancy. A healthy diet also ensures that the baby growing inside you gets all the necessary nutrients required for healthy development. Eat more whole foods in place of overly refined or processed foods. Consume more antioxidant-rich foods, such as blueberries, oranges, spinach, cherries, tomatoes, and squash. Include more yogurts that contain active cultures or other probiotic foods in your diet to help restore the balance of beneficial bacteria in your system. Avoid foods that contain a lot of sugar. Sugar can inhibit white blood cells from fighting off bacteria that cause UTIs. Also, avoid anything that contains caffeine as well as chocolate, as these substances can irritate the bladder and cause inflammation. THANKS FOR WATCHING MY VIDEO. Signs You Are Pregnant While on Birth Control

02:42
What are the signs you are pregnant while on birth control? You hit that row of do nothing pills in the birth control pack and your period does not come. It could come late for other reasons like hormones out of whack. And it was concern that my hormones would be messed up that I did not use them. Then I cannot say that you got pregnant on the pill because you used antibiotics. Antibiotics can make you poop a lot, passing the pills through faster. If you were taking thyroid medication, it would metabolize them faster. However, if you get a stomach bug and throw them up, you could get pregnant. If I’m throwing up a lot, that’s a sign I am pregnant on birth control. If you are nauseous or throwing up in the morning but not in the afternoon or evening, then it is likely due to pregnancy. If it is all day, then you may need antibiotics or another medication. I have not been taking antibiotics. If you were on the pill, you’d be able to guess you were pregnant if you had a light period the next cycle and none the one after that. With a birth control implant, though, a woman would not have a period at all. Well, most of the time. You could develop breast tenderness in early pregnancy. I get that with my normal cycle. Peeing a lot is a sign of pregnancy. Or a urinary tract infection. If you used an injected contraceptive, your odds of pregnancy are really low barring medication that interferes with it. I do not use the injectables. What are the other signs I could be pregnant while on birth control? If you used an intrauterine, it causes heavier than normal periods. If you’re pregnant, the period stops. That’s usually normal regardless of the contraception method. You could be certain you did a pregnancy test and it came back positive. Don’t birth control methods interfere with that? If you used a condom, cervical cap or even an intrauterine, you’d have the normal hormonal cycles for ovulation and pregnancy. It is only the hormone based pills and shots that throw off your hormones. And it may be that my contraceptive method failed. If you were taking birth control pills, the estrogen or progesterone won’t throw off the pregnancy test. In fact, no medicine you take for anything would mess it up. So a pregnancy test is the best way to see if I’m pregnant. And it would be a sure sign to talk to your doctor about the best way to stop your birth control, since you clearly won’t need it for a while.

You can also swallow garlic tablets or insert them directly into the vagina. 3. Tea Tree Oil Tea tree oil has antibacterial and anti fungal properties. Mix one tablespoon into a cup of warm water and use it as a douche once or twice a day. If it causes irritation, stop using it. Alternatively, dilute tea tree oil with water or one teaspoon olive oil or almond oil, and rub it into the affected area. Also try soaking a tampon with diluted tea tree oil, inserting it, and leaving it for 2-3 hours twice a day. If you’re pregnant, consult a doctor before using this remedy. 4. Coconut Oil Apply coconut oil or a mix of equal parts coconut oil and cinnamon oil directly to the affected area. Read more about how coconut oil treats yeast infections. 5. These may relieve yeast infections faster, but it’s important to make sure you’re aware of possible side effects. So If you think your problem too much bad then go to doctor for better treatment. Tips for Preventing Yeast Infection 1.Avoid soaps that contain alcohol and chemicals that may cause irritation or alter the pH balance of the vagina. 2.Routine douching increases the risk of yeast infection. 3.Use condoms during sex to prevent transmission of a yeast infection. 4.Many studies have shown that oral contraceptives increase glycogen in the vagina, which encourages the rapid growth of yeast. Sex with an infected individual and frequent use of antibiotics also cause yeast infections. Norflox-TZ Tablet नॉरफ्लॉक्स टीज़ेड टैबलेट uses side effects dosage precaution how to use & review NORFLOX-TZ Tablets (Norfloxacin , Tinidazole , Lactic acid bacillus) NORFLOX-TZ Each Film coated Tablet contains Norfloxacin IP......400 mg Tinidazole IP......600 mg Lactic Acid Bacillus......120 x 106 spores (Appropriate overages added) Colours :Titanium Dioxide and Lake Quinoline Yellow WS Norfloxacin inhibits bacterial deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis and is bactericidal. At the molecular level, three specific events are attributed to norfloxacin in Escherichia coli cells Norfloxacin has been shown to be active against most strains of the following microorganisms both in vitro and in clinical infections: Gram-positive Aerobes Enterococcus faecalis Staphylococcus aureus Staphylococcus epidermidis Staphylococcus saprophyticus Streptococcus agalactiae Gram-negative Aerobes Citrobacterfreundii Enterobacteraerogenes Enterobacter cloacae Escherichia coli Klebsiellapneumoniae Neisseria gonorrhoeae Proteus mirabilis Proteus vulgaris Pseudomonas aeruginosa Serratiamarcescens Tinidazole Tinidazole is an antiprotozoal, antibacterial agent. The nitro-group of tinidazole is reduced by cell extracts of Trichomonas. The free nitro-radical generated as a result of this reduction may be responsible for the antiprotozoal activity. Indications Treatment of diarrhea and dysentery of amoebic, bacterial or mixed origins. Dosage and Administration The dosage is one tablet twice daily for 5 days. Contraindications In patients hypersensitive to quinolone or to tinidazole or any other excipient History of hypersensitivity, tendinitis, or tendon rupture associated with the use of norfloxacin or any member of the quinolone group of antimicrobial agents Tinidazole should be avoided in patients with organic neurological disorders. Tinidazole is contraindicated in patients having, or with a history of, blood dyscrasia, although no persistent haematological abnormalities have been noted in clinical or animal studies. Warnings and Precautions Tendinopathy and Tendon Rupture Fluoroquinolones, including norfloxacin, are associated with an increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture in all ages. This adverse reaction most frequently involves the Achilles' tendon, and rupture of the Achilles' tendon may require surgical repair. Tendinitis and tendon rupture in the rotator cuff (the shoulder), the hand, the biceps, the thumb, and other tendon sites have also been reported. The risk of developing fluoroquinolone-associated tendinitis and tendon rupture is further increased in older patients, usually over 60 years of age, in patients taking corticosteroid drugs, and in patients with kidney, heart or lung transplants. Factors, in addition to age and corticosteroid use, that may independently increase the risk of tendon rupture include strenuous physical activity, renal failure, and previous tendon disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis. Exacerbation of Myasthenia Gravis Fluoroquinolones, including norfloxacin, have neuromuscular blocking activity and may exacerbate muscle weakness in persons with myasthenia gravis. Safety in Children and Adolescents, and during Pregnancy and Lactation The safety and efficacy of oral norfloxacin in paediatric patients, adolescents (below the age of 18 years), pregnant women, and nursing mothers have not been established. The oral administration of single doses of norfloxacin, six times the recommended human clinical dose (on an mg/kg basis), caused lameness in immature dogs. Histologic examination of the weight-bearing joints of these dogs revealed permanent lesions of the cartilage. Other quinolones also produced erosions of the cartilage in weight-bearing joints and other signs of arthropathy in immature animals of various species. #onlinemedicine,#medicine,#ayurveda,#ayurved ,#Ayurvedic

Does a Gluten Free Pregnancy Reduce Your Baby’s Risk of Celiac Disease | Toilet Talks

05:15
Welcome to another episode of Abbey’s Toilet Talk series. Here Abbey shares your best tops on achieving the healthiest of poops. Today Abbey’s got a letter from Peggie who wants to know whether a gluten free diet during pregnancy reduces her baby’s risk of developing celiac disease. A gluten free diet has been used for a variety of health conditions, so it was only a matter of time before researchers wanted to find out whether a gluten free diet during pregnancy has an impact on a babe’s risk of developing Celiac Disease. Recently, a gluten free diet has gained attention for its supposed “weight loss” effects, however for individuals with Celiac Disease, a gluten free diet is a necessity to prevent malnutrition and a handful of other health problems. Recently, Danish researchers used mice to find out whether a gluten free pregnancy would lower the risk of celiac disease in their offspring. Overall, the babies of gluten free pregnancies had a LOWER chance of developing celiac disease compared to pregnancies where the mice ate gluten. However this research was only conducted in mice. A 2015 human study found that gluten intake during late pregnancy and found that there was NO LINK between the intake of gluten during late pregnancy and the development of Celiac Disease in their baby. Even with these studies we still need more larger controlled studies to understand this link. Some new research that shows a gluten free diet may reduce the risk of Type 1 diabetes in your babe. Granted, these are mice trials, so I wouldn’t cut out gluten if your basing everything on these small studies. So if you are eliminating these foods and don’t have Celiac Disease, speak with your doctor and dietitian to make sure you are doing it safely. Research also found that antibiotics during pregnancy hardly had enough of an impact to make the claim that antibiotics increased a babe’s risk of developing Celiac Disease. Research found some mothers who took iron supplements during their pregnancy had children who developed Celiac Disease but this was not significant enough to draw any claims. Some research has found that vitamin D in pregnancy was linked to reduced risk of Type 1 diabetes and MS, however when it came to Celiac Disease risk, the results were underwhelming and very limited. Finally, is there a specific time when gluten should be introduced to your baby? A review found that babies who were introduced to gluten at six months had a LOWER risk compared to babies introduced to gluten at four months. However it is unclear whether the exposure to gluten had protective effects or it just delayed their celiac disease diagnosis. There are also studies that found that the timing of gluten introduction had NO effect, but they did confirm with the other studies that consuming large amounts of gluten during introduction increased their baby’s risk. Abbey hopes that this information has given Peggie some clarity about whether a gluten free diet really has an impact on your baby’s risk of developing celiac disease. If you have celiac disease it makes sense to follow a gluten free diet but if you don’t Abbey doesn’t see enough evidence to suggest a gluten free diet can make any real difference in baby’s risk. 3 Powerful Home Remedies for Tonsillitis That Work Fast!

03:35
When you have a sore throat it might not be because you’re having sinus issues or battling allergies. The same is true with halitosis. The cause of bad breath isn’t always due to something that you might have eaten. Both of these symptoms could be caused by a little-known but aggravating problem: tonsil stones. Also known as tonsilloliths, these stones form when debris gets trapped in the small pockets on either side of the throat. Over time, this debris hardens and becomes calcified. People who have chronic infections or inflammation in their tonsils are more susceptible to tonsil stones. In rare cases, they become quite large and painful, but in most cases they never reach this stage and can be removed with natural remedies. Before we look into some of these solutions, keep in mind that prevention is always the best medicine. Therefore, to ensure that your tonsils stay clear of debris make sure that you have a diet rich in probiotics. This will provide your body with good bacteria and the defenses necessary to fight off the harmful bacteria, that allow these deposits to form. Proper hygiene, including gargling and drinking lots of water, helps keep the throat area properly flushed, and free from the particles that get lodged and eventually form the tonsil stones. It’s always recommended to brush your teeth two to three times a day which also kills harmful bacteria. With these measures, if you’re unsuccessful in preventing tonsil stones, and begin noticing an acute pain in your ear, or if you have difficulty swallowing accompanied by unusually bad breath, try some of these natural remedies to remove these small white stones in your throat. 1. Utensils 2. Gargling 3. Eating certain foods Remember to consult a medical professional if your symptoms worsen, or if none of these natural cures solve the problem. ---------------------------------------- ▶ Subscribe to the channel - https://goo.gl/3tB19z ▶ Natural Cures en español - https://goo.gl/QcoLf2 ▶ नेचर क्योर्स - Natural Cures (Hindi) - https://goo.gl/okYDFd ▶ Mindfully Yours - https://goo.gl/qXiBjy Disclaimer: The materials and the information contained on Natural Cures channel are provided for general and educational purposes only and do not constitute any legal, medical or other professional advice on any subject matter.
