Here is the juice I had for the first 10 days: Each meal consisted of the following: 2 Apples 6-8 Leaves of Kale 1 Cucumber 1" of Ginger 4 sticks of Celery 1/2 lemon This cost me about $20 - $25 every 2.5 - 3 days After 10 days I decided to take out the Fructose in the apples and use large carrots instead. Since I have diabetes, I also decided to juice Bitter Melon too with the mixture. This was truly an acquired taste. I tried to buy as much organic, but to be honest, I just used what I could, as it was better than what i was eating before the juicing fast. I allowed myself to feel hungry... What does make a big difference is lowering sugar in your diet and more specifically, “high fructose corn syrup” In a recent study in the journal Open Heart (2), the authors write: “Evidence from epidemiological studies and experimental trials in animals and humans suggests that added sugars, particularly fructose, may increase blood pressure and blood pressure variability, increase heart rate and myocardial oxygen demand, and contribute to inflammation, insulin resistance and broader metabolic dysfunction. Thus, while there is no argument that recommendations to reduce consumption of processed foods are highly appropriate and advisable, the arguments in this review are that the benefits of such recommendations have less to do with sodium—minimally related to blood pressure and perhaps even inversely related to cardiovascular risk—and more to do with highly-refined carbohydrates and sugars." The Problem Started In The 1970s Food and beverage manufacturers began switching their sweeteners from sucrose (table sugar) to corn syrup in the 1970s when they discovered that High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) was far cheaper to use in their products. In fact, HFCS is the #1 source of calories in America!!!( 3) It’s found in almost everything you can think of. More specifically, in sodas and fruit juices. But also in many pre-packaged foods. This also includes “healthy sugars” sweetened with agave. My Proven “Prescription” and Recommendation For You You must do your best to limit and eliminate all HFCS and to do this, make sure you read labels. Again, the LESS pre-packaged the food, the better. Limit your TOTAL fructose to 25 grams or less, that’s about 100 calories daily. This includes the natural fructose found in fruits. If you are already suffering from high blood pressure or signs of insulin resistance like diabetes, overweight and high cholesterol, you should be particularly careful to limit your fructose, including that from whole fruits, to 15 grams per day or less. That’s about 60 calories daily. So there you have it. Focus more on limiting your sugars, this includes fruit sugar, fructose … and especially “high fructose corn syrup” which is found in most pre-packaged foods, especially sodas and fruit juices. Potatoes Potatoes are not a good food choice for diabetics due to a relatively low nutrient density and high levels of quickly absorbed carbohydrates. It is also associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. Cakes and Pastries. Cakes and pastries are not good for diabetics as they are loaded with sugar, sodium, junky white flour and preservatives. Their dangerous combo of sugar and refined flour spikes blood sugar and promotes inflammation, which interferes with insulin’s ability to function properly. Soft Drinks and Energy Drinks. Soft drinks and energy drinks are the worst type of drink for diabetics, they are loaded with calories that lead to weight gain and people who are overweight are at a higher risk of developing diabetes compared to those with the healthy weight. French Fries French fries are starchy vegetables that have a worst impact on your blood sugar levels. These fries soak a lot of oil and lead to excess weight gain. A small, 85-gram serving of fast-food French fries contains 33 grams of carbohydrates, including 3 grams of fiber. Raisins Raisins contain a concentrated level of sugars, which will be quickly absorbed by the body and lead to a sudden spike in blood glucose level that is extremely harmful to people suffering from diabetes. White Bread White bread is made with white flour that contain refined starch, which is one of the most dangerous foods for diabetics. These refined carbohydrates have a high glycemic index that causes a rapid rise in blood sugar levels, which is extremely harmful to diabetic patients. Palm oil Palm oil contain high amount of saturated fat that raises blood cholesterol levels. High blood cholesterol is a risk factor for heart disease. People with diabetes are at high risk of heart disease and limiting your saturated fat can help lower your risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Coffee Drinks Coffee contain caffeine which has been shown in the short term to increase both glucose and insulin levels. Because of this, people with diabetes should be cautious when consuming coffee. Fruit Juices People with diabetes need to moderate their fruit juice intake as larger glasses of juice can substantially raise blood sugar levels. Regular consumption of fruit juice has been linked with an increase in type 2 diabetes risk.
