Abilify: A Drug That Will Push Into CRAZY ZONE

12:19
Learn more about Abilify dangers here: https://www.levinlaw.com/abilify-lawsuit-lawyer Anyone who has ever dealt with a mental disorder, either personally or cared for someone suffering with one, knows that treatment of these conditions is incredibly difficult. And when you’re dealing with mental health, one of the worst possible outcomes of treatment is when it makes the condition worse, or causes side effects that are nearly equal to the condition they are designed to treat. And that appears to be the case with a medication called Abilify. Mike Papantonio discusses the dangers of this drug with attorney Chris Paulos. Learn more about Chris Paulos here: https://www.levinlaw.com/attorney-profiles/chris-paulos Statistics show that about 1 out of 5 American citizens suffer from some form of mental illness each year. These illnesses run the gamut from depression to Tourette’s syndrome. And with a market of more than 42 million people a year as their potential clients, Big Pharma hasn’t wasted any time creating countless pills they claim will help solve your mental health problems. There are plenty of medications available that do provide relief for people suffering from mental health problems, but there are also a wide variety of pills that have had their efficacy overstated by drug companies who were just trying to cash in on the latest blockbuster market that has opened up. Abilify is an anti-psychotic medication manufactured and marketed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical and Bristol Meyers Squibb. Its used in the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, Tourette’s syndrome, autism and depression. It’s intended to help decrease hallucinations, disorganized thinking, mood swings, depressive thoughts and tics. It's not approved to treat symptoms related to dementia, and can increase the risk of death in patients suffering from dementia. There are numerous lawsuits pending involving their anti-psychotic medication Abilify that clearly show the drug can cause impulse issues in adults, such as chaotic gambling, shopping, binge eating and hypersexuality. And with every one of those issues comes an entirely new set of problems for the people taking it. There have been reports of people losing everything by gambling away their homes, cars, and retirement funds due to the effects of Abilify. People are wrecking their home lives because of the side effects of abilify. What is so remarkable of all that is that the science appears to be absolutely solid that abilify is at the heart of the problem. According to the lawsuits that have been filed against Otsuka and Bristol Meyers Squibb, the company was fully aware of how their medication adversely effected a person’s impulse control and they completely failed to warn the public about these dangers. Documents point to the fact that the company had plenty information to show the problems here with the side effects related to abilify. They over-sold the effectiveness of the drug because and kept quiet about the risks because they wanted a piece of the 42 million customer market. And they were wildly successful. In 2014, Abilify was one of the best-selling medications in the United States, bringing in more than $7 billion for Big Pharma. In spite of all the dangers that have been emerging in the public arena with this medication for more than 4 years, juvenile detention centers have been spending hundreds of thousands of dollars each year buying stockpiles of Abilify so they can medicate juvenile delinquents instead of rehabilitating them. And these drugs are only increasing the frequency of the very behaviors that landed these children in trouble in the first place.

Off of Abilify, Now Trying a New Medication

11:10
I apologize for the bad quality. By the way, if you are going to comment saying mental illness isn't real or I don't need medication, you are wasting your time. I am seeing a therapist, I have been over 10 years now since I was 8 or 9 (I'm 20 now), and I have tried just about any natural supplement you can possible think of (5-HTP, St. John's Wort, Energy supplements, Tyrosine, SAM-e, and lithium orotate, among many others).

Quetiapine is a second-generation (atypical) antipsychotic. It’s approved by the FDA for schizophrenia, acute bipolar mania/mixed and depression, and bipolar maintenance (as an add-on to lithium or divalproex). The extended-release form is also approved as an add-on for depression. Vraylar

20:20
The relatively new Vraylar falls into the family of atypical antipsychotics traditionally prescribed for schizophrenia. An advertising campaign seeks to boost its sales for mania associated with bipolar disorder. Whether this drug actually provides benefits commensurate with the $1400 monthly cash price or roughly $45 a pill remains to be determined. Studies leading to FDA approval failed to demonstrate significant difference between it and Abilify or Risperdal both of which are available as relatively inexpensive generics. Lithium offers an inexpensive option for mania and provides the lowest incidence of re-hospitalization for manic attacks. Atypical antipsychotic drugs often cause severe side effects and should be restricted to those truly in need.

You Can Recover from Bipolar Disorder - Jennifer in Virginia

06:00
Jennifer Marshall, Executive Director of This Is My Brave, Inc. (http://thisismybrave.org) shares her story of being diagnosed with Type 1 Bipolar Disorder and how she manages her condition for myasha.org's You Can Recover project. In this video, Jennifer describes how her bipolar disorder first emerged when she was 26 years old. Two manic episodes, two weeks apart during December of 2005 landed Jennifer in the psychiatric ward of the hospital where she struggled to figure out what was happening to her. She went through a very long year and a half grappling with severe depression and anxiety, feared she would never be able to work again, and even wrestled with suicidal thoughts. Luckily, Jennifer was able to find a medication that worked for her and began to feel better in 2007. Thanks so the support of her husband and family members, Jennifer was able to learn how to manage her condition successfully. In late 2007, after a year of stability, Jennifer and her husband decided to start a family. She experienced two more psychiatric hospitalizations for manic episodes in 2008 and 2010, postpartum psychosis and antenatal psychosis respectively, during the years she was having her children. In 2011, after finding stories of others blogging about living full lives despite bipolar, Jennifer was inspired to begin writing - and sharing - her story. She started a blog - http://bipolarmomlife.com - and found that writing about her struggle was helping her to heal. She wrote anonymously because her family and close friends were concerned about stigma, but in 2013, after landing a paid online writing gig with a major website, she decided to reveal her true identity. The outpouring of support was tremendously positive. Jennifer wanted to give others a platform to experience the support she found when disclosing, so in 2013 she launched ThisIsMyBrave.org via Kickstarter with her Co-Founder Anne Marie Ames. They were successfully funded in 31 days raising over $10,000 to fund their first show, and on May 18th, 2014, This Is My Brave The Show took to the stage in Arlington, Virginia to rave reviews. As a nonprofit organization, This Is My Brave has grown to over 30 unique shows in the United States and Australia and continues to grow and shine a light on mental illness to end stigma. 9 Characteristics Of Borderline Personality Disorder

28:31
Mark Smith discusses Carol W. Berman, M.D.'s Blog on the Huffington Post entitled '9 Characteristics Of Borderline Personality Disorder' In this video Mark will strive to give a cutting edge, compassionate, enlightened, non-myth filled accounting on the true nature of Borderline Personality Disorder. - Carol W. Berman, M.D., is assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at NYU Medical Center and the author of Personality Disorders: A Practical Guide. - Blog on the Huffington Post https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/9-tips-on-how-to-recogniz_b_5224432 Let me try this again. ‘9 Clinical Criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder’ is our #1 video but also our most criticized video. I share all of my videos from the same heart of caring and a sincere desire to help people by telling them the truth. But I do feel a calling to bust some growing myths about BPD 1. Borderlines are on a continuum 2. They are NOT just codependents 3. They are NOT Empaths 4. They tend to have a lot of shame and defensiveness and anger and make lots of comments of YouTube channels 5. I am NOT saying that people with BPD are bad people – most of them are lovely people 6. They ARE Cluster B’s – Narcissists, Histrionic, Anti-Social and Borderline “Any personality disorder is a fixed, lasting pattern of thinking, feeling and acting that usually leads the person into emotionally and/or physically dangerous situations.” 1) You are idealized sometimes as the greatest person alive, while at other times you are seen as the worst person. People with BPD often have skewed views of people, whether they are acquaintances or people that are an everyday part of their lives. - They can make you feel so good and they can emasculate you until you are shreaded - Catty devaluation/dislike/competition 2) The person’s sense of self is distorted. The person doesn’t truly understand who he or she really is, so he or she tries on different behaviors. It is not uncommon for them to be distant, authoritative, friendly or hostile with the same person in the same day. - They do not know who they are. Wrong place, with the wrong people, at the wrong time, for the wrong reasons - They take polls a lot - Chameleons 3) The person frantically tries to avoid what she considers abandonment. The person may act overly needy when their support system is removed, even temporarily, such as when a close friend goes on vacation. - The movie ‘What About Bob’ - My Book – why you have to understand this - The source of most of the conflict with some couples 4) The person might half halfheartedly try to kill him — or herself or engages in self-mutilation. 5) The person is intensely reactive to situations or events that most people would just ignore or brush off. Another example is the way a person with BPD might obsess about a situation or statement. If someone tells this individual something in an angry way, then he or she might keep thinking about the statement obsessively and cannot “let it go.” 6) He or she constantly feels empty or not really there. My patient reported these feelings of emptiness many times and often thought she wasn’t really in this world. - The goal of recovery – to develop an individuated sense of self – ‘Finding Your authentic Self In the Sweet Darkness’ - A lack of joy, passions, color, things that define them 7) Anger is their most common emotion even when other feelings might be more appropriate. 8) Paranoid thoughts are common. People with this disorder often become paranoid and imagine that people are “colluding” against them. - Very difficult to develop a therapeutic alliance with an extreme BPD because they can’t trust 9) These people act impulsively and in self-damaging ways, for example, engaging in compulsive sex, binge-eating or gambling. Because of this, BPD can often be confused with other personality disorders, such as histrionic personality disorder.

Medication & Sticking To It.

13:14
Hi guys! I know this video is a long one, and probably a bit repetitive, but stick with me it's an important topic. Medication is majorly important in the mental health community and needs to be taken seriously. This all is coming from a place of love and support!! Here's he quote about Zoloft: “Zoloft has a half-life of about one day. That means that for every day that passes without taking the medication, the level in the blood falls by 50 percent. After one day, the level is reduced to 50 percent of the original level, after two days to 25 percent, after three days to 12.5 percent, and so on. Because Zoloft leaves your body so quickly, stopping it too abruptly can cause discontinuation syndrome to develop. Among the symptoms that may be experienced are nausea, tremor, dizziness, muscle pains, weakness, insomnia, and anxiety” https://www.verywellmind.com/tapering-off-zoloft-1067486 Sources: https://psychcentral.com/lib/discontinuing-psychiatric-medications-what-you-need-to-know/ http://newsroom.ucla.edu/stories/new-study-examines-effects-of-stopping-psychiatric-medication https://www.verywellmind.com/tapering-off-zoloft-1067486 https://mentalhealthdaily.com/2014/07/15/depakote-valproic-acid-withdrawal-symptoms-how-long-they-last/ http://www.campusmindworks.org/students/treatment/medication/starting%20psychiatric%20medication%20treatment.asp Online Support Groups: https://www.inspire.com/groups/mental-health-america/ https://psychcentral.com/resources/Mental_Health/Support_Groups/ cassowary.mountain@gmail.com Photo by freestocks.org on Unsplash

Simulations of treatment discontinuation/interruption - Video abstract: 32735

06:16
Video abstract of original research "Management of antipsychotic treatment discontinuation and interruptions using model-based simulations" published in the open access journal Clinical Pharmacology: Advances and Applications by Mahesh N Samtani, John J Sheehan, Dong-Jing Fu, et al. Background: Medication nonadherence is a well described and prevalent clinical occurrence in schizophrenia. These pharmacokinetic model-based simulations analyze predicted antipsychotic plasma concentrations in nonadherence and treatment interruption scenarios and with treatment reinitiation. Methods: Starting from steady state, pharmacokinetic model-based simulations of active moiety plasma concentrations of oral, immediate-release risperidone 3 mg/day, risperidone long-acting injection 37.5 mg/14 days, oral paliperidone extended-release 6 mg/day, and paliperidone palmitate 117 mg (75 mg equivalents)/28 days were assessed under three treatment discontinuation/interruption scenarios, ie, complete discontinuation, one week of interruption, and four weeks of interruption. In the treatment interruption scenarios, pharmacokinetic simulations were performed using medication-specific reinitiation strategies. Results: Following complete treatment discontinuation, plasma concentrations persisted longest with paliperidone palmitate, followed by risperidone long-acting injection, while oral formulations exhibited the most rapid decrease. One week of oral paliperidone or risperidone interruption resulted in near complete elimination from the systemic circulation within that timeframe, reflecting the rapid elimination rate of the active moiety. After 1 and 4 weeks of interruption, minimum plasma concentrations were higher with paliperidone palmitate than risperidone long-acting injection over the simulated period. Four weeks of treatment interruption followed by reinitiation resulted in plasma levels returning to predicted therapeutic levels within 1 week. Conclusion: Due to the long half-life of paliperidone palmitate (25--49 days), putative therapeutic plasma concentrations persisted longest in simulated cases of complete discontinuation or treatment interruption. These simulations may help clinicians better conceptualize the impact of antipsychotic nonadherence on plasma concentrations, and the impact of medication-specific reinitiation strategies after intermittent nonadherence.
