While different factors can influence the degree of severity, there are facts that you should learn before getting a cat. Step 1: Understand the word Understand that the prefix "hypo" means "less than." Cats that are referred to as hypoallergenic are assumed to produce fewer allergens than others. The fact, though, is that no cat is hypoallergenic. There are no legal regulations that define allergens, and all cats produce allergens. Step 2: Know what makes a cat allergenic Learn that allergic reactions are caused by a protein in the cat's skin that is also secreted in the cat's saliva. Spread when cats lick themselves, the sticky protein adheres to dust particles, everything in your home, your clothes, and the cat's fur. Tip Cat allergens can remain in a home for up to 6 months after the cat is gone, and for up to four years in the cat's bedding. Step 3: Don't believe the hype Don't be fooled into thinking that one breed is less allergenic than another. While many people claim that Rex breeds are hypoallergenic, up to 25 percent of Rex cats in shelters were owned by people who had allergic reactions to them. Step 4: Don't get a Sphynx Don't get a Sphynx cat if you suffer from cat allergies. Many people believe that the Sphynx breed is hypoallergenic because the cats are hairless. Unfortunately, the breed still secretes the protein that causes allergic reactions. Step 5: Understand differences Different people have different sensitivities to different cats. If you can, spend some time around different breeds until you find one that you seem to have consistently less of an allergic reaction to. Tip Significant variations in levels of allergens produced exists between individual cats, and levels can change throughout the day. Step 6: Check the sex Check the sex of a cat before getting one. Female cats produce fewer allergens than male cats. But if you really want a male cat, know that neutered males also produce fewer allergens. Step 7: Get a light-colored cat Still dying to adopt a kitty? Get a light-colored cat instead of a dark-colored one. One study found that dark cats were 4 times as likely to cause allergic reactions in patients as light-colored cats. Did You Know? Up to 40 percent of asthma sufferers are sensitive to cats.

Open for more info ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Hey everyone! I love cats but unfortunately I have become allergic to them. I don't own a cat right now but hope to in the future. I have had experience caring for cats in the past. I researched some cat breeds for allergy sufferers. I included some details about their personalities. There are many hyper cats on this list. It seems a lot of hypoallergenic cats are more high energy and a bit more needy. No cat is 100% hypoallergenic. Don't commit to a cat until you test out if you will be allergic. Each breed produces different amounts of allergens. My favorite is the Russian Blue. It's adorable and one of the calmer cats on this list. Hyper cats can be quite a handful. It's also not too noisy. Meowing can be cute but constant meowing can be annoying in my opinion. My next favorite would be the Siberian cat. It's also quite cute. Make sure when picking a cat that it's personality will fit well into your lifestyle. Always do your research friends! ❤ Thanks for checking out my video ★Sources for Information about Breeds http://www.animalplanet.com/ http://www.petmd.com/ https://www.purina.com http://www.petguide.com/ ★ Music Rollanddrop Jingle Punks (Youtube Free Music) Italian Afternoon by Twin Musicom is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Artist: http://www.twinmusicom.org/ ★ Images from: https://pixabay.com/ Licensed under a Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal (CC0 1.0) Public Domain Dedication (https://creativecommons.org/publicdom...) https://commons.wikimedia.org Some images created by me ★ Social Twitter https://twitter.com/Secret_Cupcake Facebook https://www.facebook.com/secretcupcake1/ ★ My Shop Etsy https://ivoryrosecrafts.etsy.com Feel free to check out my shop I sell cute handmade earrings and bracelets.

Thus the word "hypo" which means "less than" in the word hypoallergenic. How To Choose A Hypoallergenic Cat Breed

06:04
No cat is completely non-allergenic. There is no scientific evidence that any breed of cat is less allergenic than another breed. "Hypoallergenic" cat breed just means the cats in that breed tend to produce fewer allergens than other cats. Some breeds that are considered hypoallergenic include the Devon Rex, the Sphynx cat, the Balinese, the Oriental Shorthair, and the Siberian. In addition, not every cat within the breed will affect a person's allergies the same way, so it's important to meet the cat. You can also try to reduce the allergens on your cat and around your home to help with your allergies. Welcome to Pets and Animals YouTube Channel. Most EXPENSIVE Cat Breeds

10:06
Cats have been around for thousands of years. From the well-known cats the Egyptians domesticated to the numerous cats that fill the internet, cats have been able to take over the world with their beauty. And while you can find cats at almost any animal shelter, certain breeds can cost a small fortune to own. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 6. Maine Coon The Maine Coon is believed to be one of the oldest cat breeds native to the United States. Unlike some of the other cats on this list, the Main Coon can be very large. The average weight of this breed is between nine to eighteen pounds. The Main Coon is a friendly breed of cat that gets along with other cats, children, and even dogs. Even with this breed's beautiful coat, they don't need much maintenance beyond combing once a week. Since this breed is very popular, you usually cannot find them in animal shelters. There are a few online services though that can connect you with people who have rescued Maine Coons in the wild. When you find one, expect to pay around $1000 for a purebred Main Coon. 5. Sphynx At some point in your life you have probably seen a photo of this hairless cat. It was initially created in 1966 and has since taken the world by storm in popularity. Its signature hairless coat is due to a natural mutation of the breed’s genes. The Sphynx is an outgoing cat that loves to be played with and yearns for constant attention. A common misconception about this breed is that since it has no hair, it is an excellent choice for people with cat allergies. However, most cat allergies come from dead skin cells that all cats have, including the Sphinx. While a breeder is one of the most common ways to find a Sphynx for purchase, some adult Sphinxes can be found from rescue groups and the occasional animal shelter. Due to this breed’s popularity, most Sphinxes cost around $1500. 4. Savannah Between this cat’s size and spotted golden coat, the Savannah breed looks like it is straight from the wild. It was created after breeding a domestic cat with a wild African cat in 1986. The Savannah breed has become wildly popular due to its friendly nature and exotic look. This breed is great with families, wanting to be by their side and played with constantly. It is vital that this cat has plenty of sturdy toys to play with at all times. If a Savannah becomes bored or too energetic, it can become very destructive, even as an adult. The best way to purchase your own Savannah is through a breeder. Although, they can occasionally appear at animals shelters so always check your local shelters if you are searching for your own Savannah. If you find a breeder dedicated to Savannah cats, you can expect to pay around $1500. 3. British Shorthair As its name suggests, this breed of cat was created after Romans invaded Britain hundreds of years ago. This cat is well known for its intelligence and dignified personality. While this cat is known to have issues with new people, after a short period they usually become very affectionate. It is important to not to pick up and constantly move a British Shorthair since they do not like to be moved around by people. Once you decided to add one of these cats to your family, expect to pay around $1000 for your very own British Shorthair. 2. Elf Two cat owners yearned for a Sphynx with curled ears, so they created the Elf breed in 2004. This one of a kind cat is the result of breeding a Sphynx with an American Curl cat. Thanks to careful breeding over the past few years, this cat has an excellent temperament. It loves to play with its owners and usually will lay on your lap while you watch TV. An Elf cat can also quickly adapt to new animals, making them fantastic cats for any family. While an Elf kitten can cost around $300, a hairless Elf kitten can cost upwards of $2,000. 1. Khao Manee Of all the breeds on this list, the Khao Manee stands out thanks its beautiful eyes. This breed is well known for having two different eye colors, usually a pair of yellow and blue eyes. Thanks to its eyes and beautiful white coat, it is sometimes referred to as the White Gem. No matter who comes into your home to visit, the Khao Manee will want to greet and play with them. Due to their outgoing personality, they make great companion cats for any family. As with most other rare breeds of cats, the Khao Manee is usually only found through a breeder. If you want to add this unique cat to your family, expect to pay around $3000to bring them into your home.

20 EPIC Hairless Creatures !

12:03
From hairless dogs and cats and rats; to follicle challenged lions and apes; Here are 20 Epic Creatures without Hair! Subscribe to Epic Wildlife http://goo.gl/6rzs5u Let's Connect -- http://www.epicadamwildlife.com/ -- http://www.facebook.com/epicadamwildlife -- http://www.twitter.com/epicwildlife -- http://gplus.to/epicwildlife #6 Sphynx Cats You can identify these felines by several prominent physical traits: Large ears and eyes, muscular bodies, and a near-complete lack of hair. They gained that trait through a selective breeding process that began in the 1960s … and their skin reflects the color of what their fur would be, along with normal cat markings like solid, van, or calico. Contemporary Sphynx cats are also referred to as the Canadian Sphynx. Other popular breeds include the Peterbald and the Don Sphynx, which is unrelated to the Canadian breed. #5 Xolo (zoh-loh) That’s a short version of the dog’s proper name was is ‘Xoloitzcuintli’ (zoh-loh-eets-KWEENT-lee) … which is as close as I’m gonna get. In many countries it’s more commonly referred to as the Mexican Hairless Dog. The breed is thought to date back some 3,500 years, and was considered sacred by the Aztec and other groups … they viewed the animals as guardians that would repel evil spirits and intruders. DId you know these dogs were among the first breeds recorded by the American Kennel Club in 1887? #4 Red Uakari (wah-KAHR-ee) Also known as the Bald Uakari, for reasons you can figure out for yourself. Coming up, we’ll tell you about an ape that lost his hair to the disease of alopecia. But these monkeys from the Amazon River Basin are bald by virtue of genetics. And they actually do have some long hair … it’s that none of it grows on their head! The hairless red noggin provides for a startlingly surreal image, and results from the lack of pigmentation, along with blood vessels that are located close to their skin. #3 Plucked Over Did you know there really is a bird known as a Bald Parrot, which is native to the Amazon in Brazil? The low feathering and bare skin on its noggin inspired the name. But let’s show you a different type of bald parrot. It almost looks like the bird’s feathers have been scorched off of its skin. This bird’s raw, bald look isn’t due to genetics though. It’s the result of excessive preening by its mate. Or, another way of saying that this parrot’s mate really plucked it over! #2 Kung Fu Rabbit When pictures of this critter went viral a few years back, a lot of people thought it bore a resemblance to Mr Miyagi from the “Karate Kid” movies. To be fair, the mostly hairless rabbit does look like it would be at home in some sort of kung fu movie, what with his wizened look and sage mustache/goatee. It could even pass for a Jedi if you gave it robes and a light saber. But it’s really just a normal rabbit that took a little longer for its fur to grow in. Once it did, Miyagi-san was easily lost in the crowd. And before getting to the number one hairless critter, let’s take a moment to remind you that if you have any comments or suggestions, just leave them down below. While researching this episode, we found some interesting creatures that were not entirely hairless … but they’re still worth a look. Have you ever heard of a bald lion? The Tsavo (SAH-voh) Lion is an unusual type of big cat, in that the males possess a very smooth pelt….. But they generally do not have a mane. Experts think the condition might be an adaptation to their environment, or the result of producing too much testosterone … interestingly, that reason has also been cited as one of the causes of male pattern baldness in humans. Could there be a connection … or are we splitting hairs? By the way, we mentioned that there are 4 officially recognized hairless dog breeds … but we only mentioned 3 earlier. Here’s the canine we unintentionally omitted … The American Hairless Terrier is a rare breed that was originally a variant of the rat terrier. They’re said to be a favorite choice among allergy sufferers … and have a rep for being feisty and friendly. #1 The Naked Ape Like a lot of animals (including humans), Great Apes can experience the effects of alopecia which causes hair loss. In the case of one chimp, his baldness helped to make him a star attraction at the Mysore (my-SORE) Zoo in India. Guru was a 20-year-old chimpanzee whose hair loss revealed a muscular definition that looked extremely human-like … in other words, a lot of visitors through the ape looked pretty well ripped. Veterinarians weren’t exactly how or when Guru’s alopecia first appeared … but not unlike humans, it might have been connected to extreme stress. Unlike a lot humans, though, guru didn’t stress over his hair loss!

Peterbald Facts

05:39
View our Peterbald Facts video and find out everything you need to know in one Peterbald Facts video. A single video crammed full of facts on this cat breed. Peterbald Facts video content: Cat Breed: Peterbald The Peterbald should be considered as a new cat breed having been bred in Russia in 1993. The breed is occasionally referred to as the Russian Sphynx. Calling the Peterbald the Russian Sphynx can be confusing, as the Don Sphynx is also referred to as the Russian Sphynx. Peterbald’s have a similar look to Oriental Shorthairs but when born the Peterbald can be bald. Due to the breed having oval paws the can pick items up with ease and the ability to grasp. They can become experts at opening levered doorknobs. The breed came about when a brown mackerel tabby Don Sphynx was bred with a tortoiseshell Oriental in 1993. In 1996, the Peterbald was accepted by the Russian Feline Federation (SFF). 1997, the breed was accepted in the International Cat Association (TICA). In 2003 the World Cat Federation (WCF) accepted the breed. Weight: Male 8 to 10 lb – Female are slightly lighter, 6 to 8 lbs. Cat size category: Medium sized cat. Colour: The Peterald comes in five sorts of coats: Ultra bald - Cats are born bald and remain bald. Flock or Chamois coated cats - 90% hairless. Velour Coated cat - Around 70% of their bodies having a coat that can reach up to 1 mm long. Brush coated Peterbalds have wiry hair that is sometimes slightly wavy. Origin: Petersburg, Russia. Temperament: Affectionate, Quiet, Sweet natured, Inquisitive, Energetic. Average Life Span: 12-15 years. Peterbald Facts: Personality. Although a relatively quiet cat breed they can purr extremely loudly when happy. The breed are known for known for their almost dog like personality. Peterbald Facts: Family, Children and Other Pets. The Peterbald is a highly intelligent cat breed that will bond closely with family members/owner. The breed love to be close to their family and will often follows their owner around. The breed is very good with children. The breed enjoys the company of family members and cat friendly dogs, and will get on well with other family cats. In most instances a Peterbald will welcome guests into the home. The breed does not enjoy being left along for a long period. Please note that although the breed can be hairless there is still the potential to have an allergic reaction. As the Peterbald is an intelligent breed it should have a number of “brain teaser” toys. Peterbald Facts: Health. Mixed breed and pedigree cat breeds can have various health issues that can be generic in nature. The Peterbald breed is generally considered to be a healthy breed, the following issue has been seen in the breed. Feline ectodermal dysplasia in its homozygous form. As the breed can be classed as a new breed only time will tell if there are other concerns relating to the breed. Peterbald Facts: Care. The breed will require a monthly bath followed by a gentle wipe down to remove grease/dirt, preventing build up on their skin. Bedding should be washed frequently. A Peterbald need to be kept out of direct sunlight, as they will burn easily. A daily brushing of the teeth will reduce the possibility of periodontal disease, if this is to much a weekly brushing will help. Eyes - Wipe the corners using a soft, damp cloth use a separate area for each eye so as to reduce spreading infection. Ears - Wipe with a cotton ball/soft damp warm water cloth Do not use cotton swabs these can damage the ear. Like all cats the Peterbald expects the litter box to be clean at all times. Hungry Hairless Cat

00:18
This is Baldwin Van Wrinkle, our hairless (Sphynx) kitten. He is approx. 7-8 months of age. Hairless cats use up more energy than most cats trying to keep themselves warm (indoors only for this guy!), so he eats more than our other cats. In this video, Baldwin is waiting for me to get his special treat ready; a plate of Sardines! Hairless cats are unique and curious. Since they have no fur, their skin gets oily and dirty. Baldwin requires a bath about once every 2 weeks. We use the kitchen sink to give him his bath, along with a combination of Dial antibacterial soap & hypoallergenic pet shampoo/conditioner. He likes taking baths since he is used to them. After his bath, we gently clean his ears since wax builds up easily without hair. Baldwin is a very happy and playful little guy! We are so lucky that he came to our cat rescue in August 2011, and we decided to keep him as our own pet. He has already been neutered and loves to go to the pet store to pick out a toy (he wears sweaters when it is chilly outside). He recently picked out a heated kitty bed which he LOVES. In December 2011, Baldwin had a vet appointment and weighed in at 5.7 pounds, which is just right for his age/size. When he is an adult, he will be about the same size as most cats. Sphynx cats can sometimes look smaller than other cats because of their lack of fur.

How to Deal With Cat Allergies - Cat 101

01:43
How to Deal With Cat Allergies - Cat 101 - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Hello. My name is Dr. Carolyn Quagliata. I am the owner and founder of City Pet Doctor, New York City's premiere house call vet service. The way you will know if you are allergic to your cat is that you will have runny nose, itchy eyes, scratchy throat, excess sneezing, and in some cases symptoms of asthma. It is very heartbreaking when you realize that your allergic to your cat or if you want to get a cat, and you realize that you are allergic. But the good thing, is that most people's symptoms are mild to moderate, and they can be controlled enough where you can live harmoniously with your cat. The first thing, there is definitely a lot of good medications out there that you can take that will help decrease the symptoms and there are also things that you can do in the environment in your home that will help decrease your symptoms. The main thing to understand is that the allergen is actually in the cat's saliva. It is called, dander. And when a cat grooms themselves the dander actually aerosolizes and you breathe it or it touches your skin and that is what causes the allergic reaction. So if you use a hepa filter on a regular basis. If you wipe down your cat with safe wipes to help decrease the amount of dander. That helps. And then the last thing is to keep the cats out of the bedroom so that the allergic person has a safe haven. So if you follow these steps a lot of times you can control your symptoms enough to be able to live harmoniously with your cat.

Zeus is a domesticated Serval which means it is different than the Servals living in the wild in Africa. Even though these cats have the same DNA and look the same there are some differences. A Domesticated Serval has been domestically bred in captivity for multiple generations going back to the 1960's. None of the Serval cats you see in homes today were taken out of the wild. They have all been hand raised for years in loving homes. It does take a special educated open minded and patient animal person to own a Serval. A serval is a medium sized African species averaging 20-60lbs and standing 15-30 inches at the shoulder. The Serval has been domesticated for over 5000 years, the ancient Egyptians not only had these majestic cats as pets but they worshiped the serval for its grace and power. This is a highly intelligent animal and as a pet is very much dog like. ATTENTION: Servals DO NOT MAKE GOOD PETS. Saying they dont make good pets doesnt mean they cannot make good pets.. Servals Require much more attention devotion responsibility time and money than any domestic pet or hybrid. A Serval is solitary by nature and will roam up to 4 square miles which it claims as its own territory. ALL Servals (male and female) SPRAY to mark their territory wether they are altered or not. So yes, they will spray your house, your whole house. Doors, walls, clothes, furniture, even you and your family. They will never use the literbox completely. Which means you will have areas in your home where the serval will relieve it self wether you try to train them not to or you put things in the way to try to get it to avoid it. The Serval will live up to 20 years old and needs zoo-like outside/inside facilities with a large enough exercise area to run, a pool in which to swim and dive, and an area with lots of climbing possibilities. Servals will escape from anything that is not totally secure and are unlikely to return once having escaped. Servals are solitary by nature and like to travel many miles when hunting. They require a special all natural RAW diet with vitamin supplements and special health care. Even if hand-raised and tamed, a Serval will never be a "lap cat". Servals are only legal in 4 States and STILL require a permit and have guidelines for the size and type of cage that they need. Check with your state and local authorities.
