Afford A Plane ultralight or experimental amateurbuilt aircraft.

http://www.sportaviationmagazine.com -- What's the cheapest and easiest ultralight airplane to build from plans? One of the best contenders is the Affordaplane - or 'A-Plane' as this sophisticated, yet ultra-simple ultralight is popularly called. The Affordaplane was introduced in 2001 as a back-to-basics, all aluminum, true three axis airplane that anyone could build, especially those on a tight budget. The design goals for this unique airplane were nostalgic looks (having incorporated the best elements of classic taildraggers such as the Cubs and Champs), ease of assembly, and performance that rivals more expensive ultralights. Safety was also paramount, and resulted in an airframe that surrounds the pilot through 360 degrees. A thirteen year perfect safety record backs up the claim that this is one safe, tough bird. The A-Plane's fuselage structure is based on immensely strong two-inch square tubes, similar to many gyroplanes. A technique known as 'match-hole' drilling is used to join the parts. Cut, drill, and bolt, to get a perfect fit. Many builders complete their airframe in a single weekend, an unheard of achievement in airplane construction! At 5' high, the A-Plane is 17'3" long with a 27.5' wing span. The wing features full span ailerons, for perfect control even during strong crosswinds, that would ground other ultralights. Weight is a legal 254 pounds with a gross weight of 540 pounds. This airplane can easily accommodate 6' plus pilots that weigh up to 240 pounds. Controls are standard three-axis stick and rudder with full span ailerons. The flight envelope was designed to be ultralight legal in accordance with FAR Part 103. Cruise is around 60 mph with a vne of 75 mph. Stall meets the 27 mph or lower minimum. Takeoffs are between 45 to 50 mph and and landing speeds come in around 28 to 30 mph. Climb rates average 1000 feet per minute. Engines recommended in the plans are in the 35 to 45 hp range. One increasingly popular choice is the 1/2 Volkswagen engine. Other motors such as the Kawasaki 440 are also a good choice. Plans for the Affordaplane are very complete, and have been recently revised and updated. Affordaplane Aircraft was one of the pioneers of 'digital E-Plans', and customers love the savings and ability to instantly have the plans at their fingertips. It is a great way to get started with your own aviation dreams, and currently we are having a plans sale. The plans also include two classic ultralight construction manuals (over 300 pages!) that are included as a free bonus. The complete package represents the best value available today in homebuilt aircraft plans. BirdGlider, the low budget airplane

03:21
BirdGlider was designed to be a tool for the men of the street to get airborne. It is a low budget airplane. It starts its life as a glider. Later you can upgrade it to a motorised ultralight. The BirdGlider can also be used by disabled pilots. It has full hand control. The plans are for free now. Download the files after reading the rules. Do not send money!! The crowd funding has been ended a looong time ago. It gathered 100 dollar. Which i spend on buying parts for the prototype build up in Colombia.

Legal Eagle Ultralight - 12 Ultralight Aircraft that give the biggest bang for the buck!

04:40
http://www.sportaviationmagazine.com -- Legal Eagle - 12 Ultralight Aircraft that give the biggest bang for the buck! Coming in at # 10 on our list of ultralight aircraft that give you the biggest bang for your buck is the Legal Eagle. The Legal Eagle which was designed by Leonard Milholland is single seat, high wing, ultralight aircraft first introduced to the U.S. market at Sun N Fun in 1998. The name Legal Eagle came about when Leonard weighted the plane and it came in at 10 lbs less than the 254 lbs weight limit for the U.S. - thus "this Eagle is legal became the "LEGAL EAGLE." The plane features a welded fuselage with an all wood wing, similar to that of a Mini Max, the tail section is aluminums tube using pop rivets and gussets. Controls are standard stick and rudder, with ailerons. The plane is powered by a "better half" VW engine. The plane cruises along at 53 mph, stalls at 19, and according to Leonard is "real responsive and a pleasure to fly." All of the control systems are located outside the fuselage and the wings are completely sealed to prevent "those creepy crawly things" from getting in. "The whole idea of this plane is to be economical - you can afford it if you want to do the work." The plans consist of a cover sheet with the specifications on it, 42 sheets of drawings, and a materials list. Leonard estimates building time to be about 6 months. The engine is unique in that it is not a "half VW" but rather uses a full case. Plans for both the Legal Eagle and the engine are also available. The design features a fuselage of welded 4130 steel tubing, mated to an all-wood wing made from spruce. The struts and tail surfaces are made from 6061 T6 aluminium tubing. The flying surfaces are covered with standard aircraft fabric covering materials. The rear fuselage is normally left as an open truss structure to save weight and to ensure that the aircraft does not exceed the FAR 103 maximum speed of 55 knots (102 km/h; 63 mph). Like the fuselage, the taildragger landing gear is sprung steel. The aircraft has been developed into several variants of the basic design including the XL version for larger pilots and a two seat ultralight trainer and Light-sport aircraft. Legal Eagle Basic model with a 244 lb (111 kg) empty weight, powered by a 30 hp (22 kW) Half VW engine Legal Eagle XL Model for larger pilots with a wider and taller seat, greater wing area and longer tail. 246 lb (112 kg) empty weight http://www.sportaviationmagazine.com Video and Audio content is Copyright © Sport Aviation Magazine. Taildraggers vs. Tricycle gear

Well, I got bored and had to pretend I know what I'm talking about. (The main reason I made it is because I enjoyed editing the clips). The only thing I know for sure is that taildraggers can be pretty cool. Feel free to tell me what I lied about in the video.

Aerolite 103 Ultralight Aircraft for sale $8500 Flight Demo:SOLD FOR $7500

03:54
http://RoyDawsonHomes.com. SOLD. The Aerolite 103 is an American single seat, high-wing, pusher configuration ultralight aircraft, designed by Terry Raber The aircraft's model number indicates that it was designed to comply with the Federal Aviation Administration FAR 103 ultralight rules. The Aerolite 103 features a high wing with half-span flaps that are extended by use of an overhead bellcrank to a maximum of 40 degrees. The flight controls are three-axis and are actuated by a wheel mounted on a control column via flexible push-pull cables and conventional rudder pedals connected to the rudder by cables. The engine throttle is a twist-grip type and incorporates a brake lever to operate the non-differential mechanical drum brakes installed on the main wheels of the tricycle landing gear.[4][6] The aircraft has conventional nose wheel steering connected to the rudder pedals. The main landing gear utilizes sprung-tubes for suspension and absorbing landing loads. There is a fourth small caster-wheel under the tail, because when the pilot's seat is unoccupied the aircraft rests on its tail, due to the aircraft's empty center of gravity.[4] characteristics Crew: one Capacity: no passengers Length: 17 ft (5.19 m) Wingspan: 26 ft 10 in (8.18 m) Height: 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) Wing area: 124 sq ft (11.54 sq m) Empty weight: 275 lb (125 kg) Useful load: 325 lb (147 kg) Max. takeoff weight: 600 lb (272 kg) Powerplant: 1 × Rotax 447 fixed pitch, 40 hp (30 kW) Propellers: 1 propeller, 1 per engine Performance Never exceed speed: 75 mph (122 km/h) Maximum speed: 70 mph (113 km/h) Cruise speed: 63 mph (102 km/h) Stall speed: 35 mph (57 km/h) Rate of climb: 800 ft/min (4.1 m/s) Wing loading: 4.83 lb/sq ft (23.6 kg/sq m) Power/mass: 15 lb/hp (0.11 kW/kg) NO LICENSE REQUIRED. Some people love to paint or cook in their spare time; while others, like George "Gyro Jake" Jacob, get a kick out of building their own homemade aircrafts. More specifically, Jacob designs, builds and flies “gyroplanes”—part-helicopter, part-airplane, DIY flying machines with an ever-growing following. Having hand-built more than 20 of these aircrafts, Jacob has seen his Florida-based cohort of fellow enthusiasts grow from a small weekend club to a group with more than 100 members. Now, with the advent of factory-built gyroplanes, the sky's the limit. MakerPlane Indiegogo Campaign Video

06:31
http://igg.me/at/makerplane The goal of this Indiegogo campaign is the creation of an open source aircraft that is designed to be built using readily available personal manufacturing equipment such as CNC machines and 3D printers (for non-structural parts). All plans are open source and will be accessed and downloaded for free from our online repository. We are creating easy to understand assembly instructions and using methodologies such as slot and tab construction. Now I realize I am a bit fried making the video after having been up for about 48 hours working on the aircraft to get it ready for Oshkosh.... :-p If I have time I will reshoot.

Maya Ultralight Aircraft – Pt 3, First Flight January 1985

09:01
Watch in full HD (1920x1080) for best results. This ultralight aircraft was designed and built by myself (Graham.J.Percy) from 1979 to early 1985 with a good deal of encouragement from my friends. I am particularly grateful for all the help I received from my father Laurel.H.Percy and from Jim Ballinger, Greg Jessop, Brian Turner, Hans Van Meurs and Bob Walker. A full set of working drawings and construction manual were marketed during the later part of the 80s. Drawings are now available, see more details about this aircraft and plans on my home page at https://mayaultralight.com Construction is predominantly Sitka Spruce, Western Red Cedar, Finish Birch ply and aircraft grades of aluminium and steel. Total cost to build was about AUS$7500 including the excellent Konig SD-570 radial 2-stroke engine with geared propeller and electric start. Moorooduc Airfield, Jan 1985 After ground running the engine at home initial flight testing was done at Moorooduc Airfield on the Mornington Peninsula in January 1985. This was done without the nose fairing or canopy. The canopy was left off to allow for more feel during early trials. I started off by taxiing the aircraft at increasing speeds until I was able to lift the tail and maintain good directional control. When I eventually left the ground and corrected the ascent the aircraft pitched forward and bounced on the ground. Pitching oscillations followed to which I immediately jammed my elbow against the inside of the cockpit to try to hold the stick steady but the oscillations continued so I cut the power and settled back down (technically "Pilot Induced Oscillations"), no damage. Difficult to see in the film, but look hard at 1:41-1:47. Careful assessment (including great help from Merv Reed) revealed poor stick-free stability. I reduced elevator system inertia by reducing mass balance from 100% to about 50%, I increased elevator anti-balance tab gearing and increased tab size by about 150%. This increased stick feel or self-centering and reduced the destabilizing effect of system inertia...... back to the airfield! Moorooduc Airfield, March 1985 (from 1:47) Back for another try, this time high speed taxiing followed by steady level flight. Although the controls felt good I was now a little more cautious. After some more practice runs the first circuit went without a hitch during which I climbed to around 300ft, controls now seemed light and forgiving, landing was a breeze. First circuit from 3:25-5:25. Nose fairing and canopy fitted with improved performance, from 5:30 Leongatha Airfield, September 1985 (from 6:08) Hangared briefly at Leongatha Airfield in Gippsland. Beautiful clear and wide open spaces, general circuits and experimentation with propeller and other settings. Measured steady climb at 500fpm. Best flying fun! Aircraft Specification:- General characteristics Crew: one Length: 17' 6" (5.33m) Wingspan: 27' 10" (8.48m) Height: 5' 5" (1.65m) Wing area: 110sqft (10.2m2) Empty weight: 248lb (112.5kg) Gross weight: 480lb (218kg) Fuel capacity: 3.9 U.S. Gallons (14.75L; 3.25imp gal) Powerplant: 1 × Konig SD-570 4-cylinder 2-stroke motor, 28hp Propellers: 3-bladed ground adjustable wooden propeller Performance Vne (never exceed): 100mph (87kn; 160km/h) Level speed: 65mph (56.5kn; 105km/h) Cruise speed: 60mph (52kn; 97km/h) Stall speed: 37mph (32kn; 60km/h) Range: 60mi (52nmi; 96km) G limits: Manoeuvre +5.7/-2.25; Gust +6.44/-3.44 Rate of climb at sea level: 500ft/min (5.1m/s) Filming by Laurel.H.Percy, all video content is Copyright Graham.J.Percy 2014 Although image quality is limited by the source material (Super 8mm Film) this video has been recorded in full HD (1920x1080) and gives best results when played back at that resolution. The accompanying sound track was downloaded from the YouTube audio library and is in the public domain:- "Blue Skies", "Neck Pillow", "Sophomore Makeout" and "Stay with You" by Silent Partner. Also, "No Pressha" by Jungle Punks.
