Get 10% Off Dr. Berg's Apple Cider Vinegar Plus: http://bit.ly/AppleCiderVinegarPlusCa... Dr. Berg talks about the most common cause of B12 deficiencies. B12 is necessary for blood cells, energy metabolism, myelin and many other things. However, a low stomach acid can prevent the absorption of B12 so despite taking B12, nothing will work if your stomach acids are too weak. Folate & B12 Deficiency, Megaloblastic Anemia Hypersegmented Macrocytic Methylmalonic

13:14
http://www.stomponstep1.com/folate-b12-deficiency-megaloblastic-anemia-hypersegmented/ Vitamin B9 (Folate/Folic Acid) is very important for 1 carbon chemical reactions (AKA methylation) during the creation of DNA. These functions are particularly important in tissues that undergo frequent cellular division (like hematopoietic cells) and during periods of rapid cellular division (such as infancy and pregnancy). Folate is found naturally in leafy vegetables and Folium is the Latin word for leaf. Today many grains are also fortified with Folate. With so many items having Folate added a deficiency from decreased intake of Folate is not very common. Usually a deficiency is caused by an increased demand for folate through pregnancy or hemolytic anemias such as Sickle Cell Disease. Folate deficiencies in pregnant women are linked with the occurrence of Neural Tube Defects in the fetus. A deficiency can also be caused by drugs that inhibit the pathways that Folate is involved in such as Trimethoprim (antibiotic) and Methotrexate (Chemotherapy). A Folate deficiency primarily causes anemia (decreased red blood cells). Anemias can present with a wide range of symptoms including weakness, fatigue, pale skin and shortness of breath. Folate Deficiency causes a specific type of Anemia called Macrocytic/Megaloblstic Anemia where the size (Mean Corpuscular Volume) of the red blood cells increased. This is because as the creation of DNA is inhibited the cell cycle in the hematopoietic cells is stalled. Cellular division is stopped but the cell continues to grow resulting in a smaller number of cells which are larger than normal cells. Patients with this type of anemia also often present with Hypersegmented Neutrophils on a blood smear, which is a neutrophil with 5 or more "segments" in the nucleus. You are also going to see an elevation of Homocysteine levels in Folate Deficiency. This is because B12 needs to receive a methyl group from Folate so it can pass it on to Homocysteine to create Methionine. Less Folate means B12 doesn't have a methyl group to pass on and Homocysteine builds up. Unlike B12 deficiencies, Folate deficiency does not result in a buildup of Methylmalonic Acid or neurological symptoms. Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) is a vitamin, like Folate, that is important for 1 carbon chemical reactions. B12 is found in many animal products and Vegans are at the highest risk of deficiency. B12 taken in through the diet is bound to proteins. Stomach acid and digestive enzymes must first separate B12 from the proteins. If there is a deficiency of stomach acid due to disease or medication (like proton pump inhibitors or antacids) it can cause decreased absorption and B12 deficiency. Once it is no longer protein bound, B12 binds Intrinsic Factor which is released by the Parietal Cells in the stomach. Intrinsic Factor then chaperones the B12 to the terminal ileum where it is absorbed. Pernicious Anemia is the autoimmune destruction of parietal cells which leads to less Intrinsic Factor production. Less intrinsic factor means less B12 absorption and B12 deficiency. Damage to the terminal ileum, such as in Crohn's Disease, can also inhibit B12 absorption. Folate and B12 work closely together handing off methyl groups to each other. It is sort of like a game of hot potato. Folate doesn't "want" the methyl group so it passes it on to B12. B12 doesn't "want" it either so it passes it off to methionine. In effect, B12 helps recycle methyltetrahydrofolate back into tetrohydrofolate which can be used to create DNA. This means that a deficiency of B12 can cause a deficiency of Folate as less Folate is being recycled into its "active" form. Therefore, B12 deficiency present very similarly to Folate deficiency. You get Macrocytic/Megaloblastic Anemia with Hypersegmented Neutrophils and increased Homocysteine levels. If you mistakenly diagnose Folate Deficiency when it is really B12 Deficiency the patient will get better with Folate supplementation, but permanent neurological damage will be done overtime. Odd chain fatty acids are broken down to eventually give Methylmalonyl CoA. B12 is a cofactor in the process that converts methylmalonyl CoA into Succinyl CoA which can then be used in the TCA cycle to generate energy. If there is not enough B12 this reaction is slowed and Methylmalonic Acid builds up. This Methylmalonic Acid build up is toxic to neurons and leads to demyelination in the posterior and lateral columns of the spinal cord. This is called Subacute Combined Degeneration and presents with peripheral numbness/tingling, spasticity, and loss of vibration and proprioception.

Vitamin B12 Deficiency Signs, Symptoms, And Risk Factors

03:08
Vitamin B12 Deficiency Signs, Symptoms, And Risk Factors The symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency are diverse, including both physical and mental symptoms. The physical symptoms include palpitations, incurable fatigue, loss of balance, numbness, tingling, pale skin, and sore and red tongue. The mental symptoms include memory loss, depression, or obsessive compulsive disorder. Vitamin B12 Is Essential For Your Nerves And Genes Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is one of the 8 essential B vitamins. As it is water soluble, your body cannot store it; so, it needs to be constantly sourced through food. All B vitamins help produce energy in the body by converting carbohydrates from the food into fuel (glucose) and use fat and protein optimally Signs And Symptoms Of Vitamin B12 Deficiency As an adult, you need only 2.4 mcg vitamin B12 daily through your diet. For infants below 1 year, the daily requirement ranges from 0.4 to 0.5 mcg. Pregnant and lactating mothers require 2.6 and 2.8 mcg, respectively. The only source of vitamin B12 are foods, mostly from animal sources, and supplements. While vegetarians can get it from dairy products, they still risk not getting enough. However, vegans have a high risk of vitamin B12 deficiency if they do not eat B12-fortified foods and supplements. Deficiency occurs either when you don’t get enough of it through your diet or when your body cannot absorb it effectively. Poor absorption is caused by aging, low stomach acid, chronic digestive disorders like Crohn’s disease or celiac disease, stomach surgeries, and pernicious anemia. 1. Memory Loss, Depression, OCD, And Psychosis The first signs of vitamin B12 deficiency, which could take years to develop, have either to do with your nerves and mental health. The list includes depression, memory loss, psychosis, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and dementia. The reason behind this is that vitamin B12 helps build the protective myelin sheath around nerve cells. 2. Anemia, Fatigue, Shortness Of Breath There are certain blood-related signs that the deficiency could manifest in. But it is highly unlikely that you have hematological symptoms if you already have nervous and mental symptoms. The likelihood of it diminishes further with the severity of the neuropsychiatric symptoms. Anemia is a classic vitamin B12 deficiency symptom. Severe anemia could lead to breathing difficulty on exertion, fatigue, as well as symptoms related to congestive heart failure, such as ankle edema, breathing difficulty, frequent urination in the night, etc. 3. Nausea, Vomiting, Heartburn, And Bloating Some symptoms of the deficiency involve the digestive tract like nausea, vomiting, heartburn, abdominal bloating and gas, constipation or diarrhea, loss of appetite, and weight loss. An enlarged liver is another symptom. 4. Skin Lesions, Vitiligo, And Sore Tongue Any change in the cobalamin content in the body can show on the skin as vitiligo, dermatitis, hyperpigmentation, or acne. Skin lesions, especially the ones not responding to any other treatment, are most likely from cobalamin deficiency. Your hair and nail could change, too. Vitamin B12 Is Found Mostly In Animal Sources Since vitamin B12 cannot be produced in the body, it is essential to include food that supplies it in our diet. Plants don’t make it and the only living things that make vitamin B12 are certain bacteria present in the digestive tract of animals. 5 Signs Of Vitamin Deficiency That Can be Seen On Your Face Instantly

03:09
Here are five signs of vitamin deficiencies that can be seen on your face: 1. Puffy Eyes. Do your eyes look extra puffy in the morning? Puffy eyes often indicate that you’re not getting enough sleep, but they can also be sign of low iodine levels in the body. Eat This: Cranberries, yogurt, kelp, potatoes, strawberries and navy beans. 2. Extremely Pale Skin. You might notice you’re looking a little pale in the dead of winter, but if your skin has become overly pale, it could be a sign that you’re lacking Vitamin B12. If your body isn’t getting enough B12, you’ll start to feel fatigued and your skin can suffer. Eat This: Salmon, red meat, fortified cereals, yogurt and Swiss cheese. 3. Dry Hair. Has your hair felt extra dry and brittle lately? Have you noticed a large amount of dandruff on your scalp? These could be signs that you’re lacking biotin or Vitamin B7. A biotin deficiency can be the result of using antibiotics. Eat This: Eggs, almonds, nuts, legumes and whole grains. 4. Pale Lips. Pale lips can be a sign that you’re lacking in iron. An iron deficiency can cause your immune system to become weak. If you’re getting sick often, it could be another sign that your body needs more iron. Eat This: Red meat, seafood, beans, dark green leafy vegetables, iron-fortified cereals and peas. 5. Bleeding Gums. If your gums have been bleeding lately, it could indicate a lack of Vitamin C in your body. Without Vitamin C, your immune system can weaken, causing muscle pain and problems with your teeth. Eat This: Oranges, red peppers, kale, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, strawberries and grapefruit.

Pernicious Anemia Nursing, Pathophysiology, Symptoms, Treatment | Anemia Types NCLEX

11:26
Pernicious anemia (types of anemia) nursing, pathophysiology, symptoms, and treatment for the NCLEX exam. Pernicious anemia is a form of vitamin b 12 anemia that is an autoimmune condition where the body does not produce intrinsic factor which plays a role in absorbing vitamin b 12.The body needs vitamin b 12 to make healthy red blood cells. A protein called intrinsic factor plays a role in the body’s ability to absorb vitamin b 12. Low vitamin B12 levels lead the body to produce unhealthy red blood cells. Pernicious anemia is a type of macrocytic anemia where the red blood cell will appear very large and oval-shaped (rather than normal sized and round-shaped). Signs and symptoms of pernicious anemia include feeling very fatigued, tingling or burning in the hand or feet (also called paresthesia), red, smooth tongue, depression, loss of appetite etc. Treatment for pernicious anemia is supplementation of vitamin B 12 through intramuscular injections of vitamin B 12. Nursing care of a patient with pernicious anemia include administering vitamin B 12 injections, educating the patient about the condition and medication regime, good oral hygiene due to tongue changes, and safety precautions due to paresthesia in the hands and feet. 06:50
Today we're discussing the benefits of vitamin b12 that you can expect with supplementing with a b12 vitamin or consuming more b12. We have methylcobalamin b12 in our Inflammation Relief supplement - https://truthnutra.com/inflammation-relief Correcting the b12 deficiency is key. B12 helps your body produce red blood cells and prevents anemia. When you're b12 deficient, you can start to experience anemia symptoms like chronic fatigue. 2. B12 helps digestion: vitamin b12 deficiency can cause inflammation in the body. The gut bacteria are a key part of the inflammation response system so when you have a b12 deficiency, this system starts to break down. 3. Vitamin B12 benefits your skin, hair, and nails because it plays a major part in cell reproduction. People use b12 injections to treat psoriasis and eczema. 4. b12 benefits your heart: it can reduce elevated homocysteine levels. Homocysteine is heavily influenced by the levels of vitamin b complex in the blood. 5. B12 benefits depression and anxiety. Nutrient therapy is a major helpful way to help psychological disorders. 6. B12 benefits your memory. 7. B12 increases energy production. Vitamin b12 is essential for production of cellular energy in the body. https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/shop/supplements/general-health/methylcobalamin-gluten-free-supplement/ Vitamin B-12 deficiency is linked to several health issues. Anemia, depression, nerve damage, memory issues, and much more. The two most common symptoms linked to B-12 deficiency are depression and fatigue. Serum vitamin B-12 levels is not a good indicator for vitamin B12 deficiency. Functional medicine doctors typically evaluate vitamin B-12 using more advanced lab testing. https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/shop/ *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. How to Naturally Overcome Vitamin B12 Deficiency

07:33
For more on Vitamin B12 foods, you can check out my article: https://draxe.com/top-10-vitamin-b12-foods/ In this video, I’m going to talk about how to overcome Vitamin B12 deficiency and the health benefits of Vitamin B12. Surprisingly, about 40% of the population is deficient. Some of the big warning signs that you are Vitamin B12 deficient are if you struggle with low energy, fatigue, lack of focus, poor memory, poor cellular function, autoimmune disease, anemia, or thyroid condition. The biggest reason most people have Vitamin B12 deficiency is because they don’t have a healthy digestive system to digest this vitamin properly, also known as leaky gut. If you can’t absorb nutrients and vitamins properly, then you won’t be able to absorb the vitamins you need for optimal health. People who struggle with leaky gut or digestive issues, vegans or vegetarians, and people who don’t have enough probiotics in their diet all tend to have a Vitamin B12 deficiency. Some of the benefits of Vitamin B12 include red blood cell formation, which is vital to heart health, cellular function, and supporting the brain and nerve system. If you want to overcome Vitamin B12 deficiency, then you must follow these specific steps: 1. Consume more Vitamin B12-rich foods (liver, wild-caught fish, grass-fed lamb and beef, and raw dairy products) 2. Take a Probiotic (increases absorption) 3. Heal your gut (getting inflammatory foods out of your diet) 4. Supplementation (Vitamin B12, B complex, desiccated liver supplement) If you can follow these steps, you will notice improvements immediately and overcome your Vitamin B12 deficiency. *This content is strictly the opinion of Dr. Josh Axe, and is for informational and educational purposes only. Anemia & Hair Loss: My Story and Recovery

11:28
MEGA FOOD BLOOD BUILDER ⇨ http://amzn.to/2rjTfyC ——————————————————————————————— Iron deficiency anemia develops if your body doesn't have enough iron to build healthy red blood cells. Hemoglobin is the protein inside red blood cells that carries oxygen through the body. Oxygen helps the growth and repair of all body cells including the cells that make up hair follicles. This leads to hair thinning, hair loss and brittle nails. ——————————————————————————————— In this video, I discuss my battle with iron deficiency anemia and how I recovered. I have struggled with anemia for a good portion of my life. I have finally reached a point where I feel that I have the anemia under control. I have also found the BEST iron pills on the market that do not hurt your stomach or have painful side effects. Sometimes hair loss can be genetics but sometimes it can be caused by anemia. If you believe you may be anemic I urge you to visit a doctor and have your blood levels tested first before taking any supplements. I hope that my story was able to help at least 1 person out there. I know I have struggled for years with my hair and not knowing why it was thinning. Please share your stories, tips and advice down below! ———————————————————————————————

Vitamin B12 Deficiency Symptoms || Vegan Nutrition Q&A

05:08
One nutrient that vegans in particular need to supplement is B12, although vegetarians and meat eaters may need to supplement as well. SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/1fNLSVx VEGAN NUTRITION Q&A playlist ▹ bit.ly/vegan-nutrition-tips-playlist VIT B12 SUPPLEMENT RECOMMENDATIONS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib6FqReK5pg Can you get B12 from dirt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQgIhQF8GgU Your body stores an extra supply of it, so it can take up to 2 years for any vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms to creep up on you. You risk permanent damage to your nervous system and brain if you let this one get too far though, so be on the lookout for those symptoms. Early Vitamin B12 Deficiency Symptoms: Unusual fatigue Faulty digestion No appetite Nausea Loss of menstruation Tingling hands and feet (start of serious deficiency) If you don't get levels back up from there, it can result in permanent nerve damage and get very serious, causing blindness or deafness. Also, homocysteine levels will be high (risk factor for heart disease, stroke and complications during pregnancy) long before any of the early vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms show up. If children don't get enough B12 during childhood, their levels can be corrected but the period where they didn't have enough can have permanent effects on their brain and nerve functions. Maintaining your own B12 levels while breastfeeding is crucial. You can be tested for B12 deficiency by your doctor, and the most accurate method of testing is a urine or blood test called a Methylmalonic Acid test (MMA). It can detect deficiency much earlier and much more accurately than the standard blood test most doctors use to test for serum cobalamin levels and pernicious anemia. If you're seeing vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms, or show low levels in a blood test, the obvious solution is to raise B12 levels. Depending on how low your levels are, go for any or all of the following: - supplements (my recommendations here: http://bit.ly/vit-B12) - fortified foods (nut/grain milks, cereals, certain nutritional yeasts) - B12 injections (done by a doctor, for severe deficiency or people who aren't absorbing B12 through digestion) Have you ever noticed any of these symptoms in yourself? B12 deficiency Anemia - Diagnosis, causes, symptoms and treatment in hindi

12:13
This video tells us about, Vitamin B12 deficiency, also known as cobalamin deficiency, is the medical condition of low blood levels of vitamin B12. In mild deficiency a person may feel tired and have a reduced number of red blood cells (anemia). In moderate deficiency there may be inflammation of the tongue and the beginning of neurological problems including abnormal sensations such as pins and needles, while severe deficiency may include reduced heart function and greater neurological problems.Neurological problems may include changes in reflexes, poor muscle function, memory problems, decreased taste, and in extreme cases psychosis. Sometimes temporary infertility may also occur. In young children symptoms include poor growth, poor development, and difficulties with movement. Without early treatment some of the changes may be permanent. Patients classically present with megaloblastic anemia, atrophic glossitis, neurological changes characterized by symmetrical lower extremity neuropathy that is greater than upper extremity neuropathy with paresthesias and ataxia that may progress to weakness and spasticity, cerebellar ataxia, and personality changes. Concomitant folate deficiency is often present and may mimic many symptoms of B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12, or cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin found in meat, fish, and dairy products and, once combined with intrinsic factor in the stomach, is absorbed in the ileum. Patients at risk for B12 deficiency include those with a lack of intrinsic factor (pernicious anemia) or antibodies to intrinsic factor, patients with malabsorption syndromes, especially those who have had a gastrectomy, gastric bypass, or chronic pancreatitis, or those with infections such as Helicobacter pylori or tapeworm infections. In addition, strict vegans, alcoholics, and older adults are particularly vulnerable to B12 deficiency.

5 Signs And Symptoms Of IRON Deficiency YOU NEED To Know

04:00
Follow us on Twitter: @foods4health1 Recipes4Health: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2bZhXBHIb51n1fE3VWPmcQ/videos To learn more about the health benefits of food, visit: http://www.benefitsoffood.blogspot.com If we want to be at our best when it comes to our health, it is important that we are consuming adequate nutrients. A deficiency in these nutrients can lead to certain health complications that may impact you on a day-to-day basis. This is certainly true for those individuals who suffer from iron deficiency, and are not getting adequate levels of this mineral. Iron deficiency is very common around the world, and is one of the most widespread nutrient deficiencies. When our bodies don’t have enough iron, this can lead to health complications since iron is important to get enough oxygen throughout our body. Iron is also used to make hemoglobin and impacts the red blood cells in our bodies. Lets discuss some other signs and symptoms of iron deficiency. 1. First, one of the most common signs of iron deficiency is fatigue and lack of energy. These fatigue feelings are prevalent even after getting a good nights sleep. This is because iron deficiency may cause less oxygen to reach your tissues, as mentioned previously. When there is this lack of oxygen, our bodies can be deprived of important energy to fuel us during our busy day. Not only will you feel fatigued and tired, but iron deficiency can also bring on symptoms of irritability, weakness and an inability to focus like you once did. 2. Another common iron deficiency sign or symptom is an increase in the paleness of your skin color. As mentioned previously, a deficiency in this nutrient can negatively affect hemoglobin levels in your body. Hemoglobin is responsible for giving your blood its reddish color, which provides your skin with a more rosy hue. Low levels of hemoglobin can affect this, and leave your skin looking more pale. Not just skin tone is affected from this. It can also make your gums, lips and even the bottom of your eyelids less red as well. 3. It is also common for those individuals with iron deficiency to suffer from headaches and head pain. This is because when your are iron deficient, your body will work to prioritize getting important oxygen to your brain, before it will distribute it to the rest of your bodily tissues. Even still, those with an iron deficiency will still get less oxygen in their bodies than it normally would. This lack of oxygen can cause arteries in the brain to swell, resulting in unwanted headaches and pain. 4. Iron deficiency can also negatively affect your hair. This is especially true when this deficiency progresses into iron deficiency anemia, since it can lead to hair loss in both men and women. Again, due to the bodies lack of sufficient levels of oxygen, your body will supply this oxygen to support the most vital functions of the body, which generally does not include keeping the hair healthy, strong and intact. Not only is hair loss possible, but the overall look of your hair can decrease, while becoming brittle and weak. 5. Lastly, iron deficiency can lead to increased feelings of anxiousness and worry more often. Decreased oxygen in the body, along with low levels of iron, can negatively affect your nervous system and increase anxiety. As well, low iron levels can cause your heart to race, which can increase feelings of fight-or-flight. These anxious feelings can come on even when there is nothing particularly to cause you increased anxiousness or stress. Please note, all of the above signs and symptoms should be discussed with your medical practitioner in order to determine their direct cause and and their best treatment for you. As well, you should also discuss your iron levels with your doctor, and adequate intake levels to support your health. Foods high in iron include oatmeal, spinach, various meats such as beef, chicken and liver and tofu. Thank you for watching the video! Please like, comment and share.
