Archaeologists have found compelling evidence of essential oil use in ancient Greece and Rome. Suffice it to say that mankind has a long and beneficial relationship with essential oils. But while essential oils have been used in the Western world for many years as aromatherapy treatment, their topical use is a very recent development. With increasing access to quality therapeutic-grade essential oils, many people now apply these powerful compounds directly to their skin. And the most effective place to put essential oils on your body? The soles of your feet! The soles of our feet have much larger pores than the rest of our body. This means they act a little like oversized straws, sucking up the health-giving compounds in the oils and quickly feeding them into our bloodstream. When applied to the larger pores of your foot soles, these oils can pass through the epidermis into your body and begin working their magic faster and more efficiently. The skin on the soles of our feet is much less sensitive because the bottom of our feet are designed to take their fair share of abuse. Science has shown that just chewing on something lowers stress. To avoid the calories, you can always just chew the sugar free gum. 2. Do yoga. It has been proven to lower resting cortisol levels and greatly reduce stress in its regular practitioners. Just 20 minutes of yoga will give you these effects. 3. Meditate. Just 5 minutes of concentrated deep breathing and meditation has been shown to both lower blood pressure and greatly reduce cortisol. There are plenty of free guided mediation apps for beginners that can be downloaded on your phone right now. 4. Walk away from the computer. Uninterrupted computer use has been associated with stress, lost sleep, and depression. Take frequent breaks throughout your day, and make sure to shut it off 1 hour before you fall asleep. 5. Cuddle something. Oxytocin, also called the cuddle hormone, gets released when you spend time with others or cuddle. This hormone has been shown to create a buffer against stress and will lower your heart rate and cortisol when released. 6. Listen to some stress relieving music. Try progressive muscle relaxation. All the way from the fingers to the toes, tense and then relax each muscle group in the body. This will help relieve tension and you’ll find that once the muscles are relaxed, the mind will soon follow. 9. TURN YOUR FREAKIN PHONE OFF. Just talking on the phone has been shown to raise blood pressure. Whenever you need a break, just turn your phone on airplane mode for an hour and put it out of sight. 10. Hop off Facebook for a week. Facebook has been proven to make us feel sadder and less satisfied. Studies have also shown that when people deactivate it, they feel happier and less worried. 11. Go for a 10-minute walk. Just walking around your neighborhood for 10 minutes will boost endorphins and reduce stress hormones. Orange essential-oil is extracted from the fruit peels of sweet orange that goes by the name Citrus sinensis. In the case of orange-oil, limonene, D-limonene in particular, forms the major bulk of the oil. Sweet orange oil is widely used in aromatherapy and herbal medicine for the following Reasons. 1.Antidepressant The very action of peeling an orange is so uplifting, thanks to the release of the orange-oil in the peel. Not surprisingly, the essential-oil of orange is often used in aromatherapy to bring one out of a depressed or pensive mood. A mere whiff of the oil can make you feel alert and relaxed at the same time. It induces a sense of happiness and well-being. Along with the reduction in cortisol secretion and lifting of mental anxiety, physical changes such as lowering of pulse rate are observed. 2.Anti-inflammatory Inflammation is part of body’s healing mechanism, but uncontrolled and chronic inflammation has many negative effects, apart from causing swelling and pain. You can observe perceptible changes such as reduction in redness and swelling at the site of injury. Adding essential oils to your bath would give you maximum benefits, but it should be avoided for the reason mentioned above. 5.To control acne Orange oil has a drying and grease-cutting effect on the skin that can help reduce acne in people with oily skin. Add 2-3 drops of orange oil to a cup of water and wash the face with it before going to bed. Orange oil acts as a deep cleanser when used with a light carrier oil like olive-oil or sweet almond-oil. Mix 3-4 drops of orange oil to a tablespoon of carrier oil and apply on the face with a cotton ball. Allow to remain for 5-minutes and wipe off. This is an excellent way to remove makeup in the evening. For a spot treatment for acne, dip a cotton swab in sweet orange-oil and touch the acne. The antiseptic effect of orange oil helps reduce bacteria that worsen acne. In addition, cardiovascular disease can be triggered by the action of cytokine produced C-reactive protein (CRP). Several studies have shown an inverse relationship between HRV and CRP levels. Mix in essential oils and pour into glass container. Apply to chest and neck then wrap with a washcloth, t-shirt or towel and pin in place to hold in heat. Use this for sore throats and coughs.
