Wow, our parents and all of us through our childhood and still today are brainwashed on the benefits of drinking milk. In my opinion, the dairy industry's commercials about how milk is supposed to do a body good is a crime and it couldn't be further from the truth! Let's get to the facts on why drinking milk is foundation to illness and disease including, sinusitis, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis and potentially cancer! Let's start with the obvious signs of what drinking milk does to the human body. First, with our children, drinking milk is a major contributor to ear aches. Milk protein builds the foundation for mucous which causes inflammation and hence an ear ache. Second, drinking milk daily can lead to chronic sinusitis and the continual need for antibiotics prescribed by your doctor. This is a nasty cycle that is created in the body and leads to the robbing of your good gut bacteria and "probiotics" which the antibiotics destroy. These probiotics can be repopulated in the gut but it takes time and guidance by a Naturopathic physician who knows what they are doing. Helpful tip - if and when you do take antibiotics, always take a quality probiotic along with it to reduce the damage being done in your gut. I'll give you my personal testimonial on the effects drinking milk had on my body. I'll share that with you in the video above and my blog post! Bottom line, ditch the milk and stock up on homemade Almond, Hemp, Coconut, Oat or Rice milk (it's technically not milk, just a term used so people relate) as an alternative. they taste much better and in fact "do a body good"! We should think hard about consuming the cow's milk since; 1. NO OTHER animal species drinks the milk of another species and 2. NO OTHER species drinks milk after a very young age. Now the science not financed by the dairy industry is making it clear. Human consumption of cow's milk is very recent in human evolution. All science not financed by the dairy industry implicates dairy as horrible for human consumption. Big money is behind supporting dairy consumption. It is just the work of those such as Dr. McDougall that is getting the truth out. The creator of the Paleo diet and Dr. Campbell of China Study fame agree emphatically that dairy is bad for humans. When Dr. Ornish reversed heart disease he eliminated dairy. When Dr. Essylstein reversed heart disease he eliminated dairy. When Dr. Ornish reversed prostate cancer, he eliminated dairy. Colin Campbell was able to turn cancer on or off by feeding rats a carcinogen and then adjusting the amount of casein (milk protein) in the diet. The largest epidemiological study ever(China Study) showed a direct relationship between dairy consumption and cancer (the more dairy, the more cancer).

His legacy, the China Project, is the most comprehensive study of health and nutrition ever conducted. Dr. Campbell is a professor Emeritus at Cornell University and is most well-known for co-authoring the bestselling book The China Study with his son, Thomas Campbell, MD. In addition to his long and outstanding career as an author, scientific researcher, and Cornell professor, Dr. Campbell has been featured in several documentary films. He is the founder of the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies and the online internationally-recognized Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate. Dr. Campbell's expertise and scientific interests encompass relationships between diet and diseases, particularly the causation of cancer. He has focused on nutritional status and long term health. Surprisingly, Dr. Campbell started his life on a dairy farm, but is now widely-known for researching links between animal-based protein diets and disease. Dr. Campbell has conducted original research and has authored over 300 research papers. He has served on many national and international expert committees with mandates to develop food and health policy positions and is the recipient of several awards, both in research and in citizenship. Symptoms of a milk allergy can include asthma, eczema, gastrointestinal distress, as well as bleeding, pneumonia, and even anaphylaxis (shock). Lactose Intolerance: Different from both allergies and lactose intolerance, some people have a sensitivity to the casein (a type of protein) in milk. This sensitivity can trigger inflammation throughout the body, which may produce symptoms such as sinus congestion, acne flares, skin rash and migraines. Non-dairy options: Coconut Milk Almond Milk Hemp Milk I don't like: Rice Milk Rice milk is very starchy and is high in carbs. Rice milk may also contain arsenic depending on how it was made. It isn’t a great source for calcium, fat, or protein. I don’t like it. Soy Milk Soy was traditionally prepared through a long, slow fermentation processes to make food such as natto (which is rich in Vitamin K2), miso, tempeh, and soy sauce, as well assoy milk. Unfortunately, the soy of today is not treated with the same respect and care. The soy bean has high amounts of phytic acid and isoflavones, or plant-based estrogens. In addition, at least in the United States, today’s soy is 90% genetically modified which means it is loaded with pesticides. GMOs, pesticides, phytic acid, and endocrine disruptors do not build healthy bodies. Is Dairy Bad For You? This is an in-depth look at the history of the dairy industry, the changes in practices over the last 20 years, and how it may be affecting your digestion, protein absorption and overall tolerance for lactose. Find out how hormones, antibiotics and mass production on dairy farms may potentially be causing adverse health issues. Between 1991 and 2004, the number of U.S. dairies decreased by half, and those with an excess of 100 cows increased by 94 percent. Big business tends to do anything to increase profits, which was led to changes that impact both our health and our sense of what is morally acceptable. (2) 2. Between 1950 and 2000, the number of dairy cows decreased by half, however the average milk yield more than tripled. (2) What this means for dairy: 1. Antibiotics: a. dairy cows live in some tough conditions and consume a diet that is high in protein and low in fiber, opposite of their natural diet of grass, which is high in fiber and low in nutritional density. They are fed this way to increase production, however it makes cows sick. (2) b. To keep cows healthy enough to produce milk, they are fed antibiotics. These antibiotics are passed on to us when we consume dairy products. This could lead to antibiotic resistance, and it is not fully understood what health problems this could pose. (2) 2. Hormones: a. milk contains natural hormones and growth factors - think about it - milk is produced in mammals to create the nutrition and resources for a small mammal to grow to be large. These hormones are meant to bring an 85 lb calf to a full grown 1,500 lbs (4). In addition to these naturally occurring hormones, synthetic growth hormones are frequently used to increase the production of milk. These hormones are readily available in the dairy we drink and may affect our normal hormonal function. (3) i. One hormone added to cow’s milk, insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), has been implicated in increased breast and prostate cancer risk. In a study of nearly 22,000 participants for 28 years published by the Journal of Nutrition in 2013, it was found that those who consumed greater than 2.5 servings of dairy products daily had an increased risk of prostate cancer compared to those who consumed less than one half of a serving per day. (7) Aren’t there other nutrients that you need from milk? Every nutrient that you can obtain from milk, such as calcium, potassium, protein and fats can all be obtained from whole plant foods, such as vegetables, legumes, nuts and fruits. It is important to reduce the causes of chronic inflammation in our diets, and the hormones in milk, whether organic, raw milk or regular milk with even more hormones added in, can lead to inflammation. Cut dairy out of your diet for 30 days and see how you feel. It you find better digestion, increased energy and improved health, you are likely one of the majority who have an inflammatory response to dairy. If you do decide to continue eating dairy, do so in small quantities and be sure to consume organic, raw dairy. Resources: 1. Breast milk from a mother is needed for an infant until the time that it is no longer healthy to do so. Let’s look at how nature works. The mother of a baby horse let’s the baby drink her milk until such a time when she knows it’s no longer needed and then weans the baby off. The mother will actually push the baby away. The mother horse won’t allow her baby once it has been weaned, to drink her milk again. Once she has weaned her baby, there is no more milk. Why does this happen? Reason being is if the baby of the mother horse were to continue to drink milk, it will eventually develop cancer. Milk has a protein called casein and it has been shown to stimulate tumor growth. If a person were to continue with rapid growth after a period of time, that is what’s called cancer. All mammals wean their babies off milk at a certain age. We do not, and we choose to ignore nature. We also are battling the powerful dairy industry as they continue to push and promote drinking milk from womb to tomb. As far as humans, we not only don’t wean our kids off milk, we have them drink the milk of another species, namely cows. Why were cows chosen? Dangers of drinking cow's milk Before we discuss some of the dangers of drinking cow's milk, first, it is important to mention that I am not completely anti-milk. I personally do not drink unless it is seed or nut milk but in its pure form, it is not necessarily dangerous. Yet, due to the extreme processes that milk undergoes, as well as the high amounts of antibiotics, hormones, and genetically-modified substances that cows are continually exposed to, I can, with much certainty, say that there are real and eminent dangers associated with drinking milk from cows. All cows release toxins through their milk, as milk is a natural exit-portal for substances that the body cannot use. List of "Ingredients" Added to Cow's Milk Here are just a few of the artificially-engineered components found in the average glass of non organic pasteurized and homogenized milk on the American dinner table: A Veritable Hormone Cocktail: including pituitary, steroid, hypothalamic, and thyroid hormones (remember most cows are extremely stressed) Gastrointestinal Peptides: Nerve and epidermal growth factors, and the growth inhibitors MDGI and MAF rBGH ( Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone ): a genetically engineered hormone directly linked to breast, colon and prostrate cancer. This is injected into cows to increase milk production. Pus: National averages show at least 322 million cell-counts of pus per glass. This is well-above the human limit for pus-intake, and has been directly linked to paratuberculosis bacteria, as well as Crohn's disease. The pus comes from infected udders on the cows known as mastitis. ___________ Blood Cells: The USDA allows up to 1.5 million white blood cells per milliliter of commonly-sold milk.[3] Yes, you are drinking cows blood in the milk and the USDA allows this! Antibiotics: Currently, cows are in such a state of disease and mistreatment that they are continually being injected with antibiotic medicines, and rubbed down with chemical-laden ointments to deal with their chronic infections. Currently, regulating committees only test for 4 of the 85 drugs in dairy cows. This means that the other 81 drugs in cow's milk are coming directly into your glasses and bodies. Estimates show that 38% of milk in the U.S. is "contaminated with sulfa drugs or other antibiotics," according to a study by the Centre for Science in the Public Interest and published in the Wall Street Journal on December 29, 1989. A study from the FDA data showed that over half of all milk was laden with traces of pharmaceuticals yet nothing has been done to control this. How Does This Affect the Cows? Furthermore, not only are people drinking in these toxins, we are also taking in the energetic effects of the life of the cow. Studies show that many cows are infected with incredibly painful inflammatory infections such as mastitis. Due to over-milking, artificial hormones, bacteria and medications, cow's udders can become chronically inflamed, thus altering the color and taste of the milk. Over time, this bacterial invasion causes harm to the cow's mammary gland, reeking havoc on the milk being produced. From parasitic worms to cancerous tumors, these diseases are often passed along to the next generation of cows, and more often, into the milk we drink. Even more, the conditions in which cows live, as well as the rigorous milking regimes, cause dairy cattle to live in a permanent state of sympathetic (stress) response, as well as adrenal over-load. When our adrenal glands are overworked for long periods of time, there is a overload of cortisol in the blood. When we drink this milk, we are then exposed to the millions of stress-response cells in the milk of cows. It is no wonder that we are a chronically-stressed society .. How To Avoid Dangers Related to Cow's Milk In conclusion, it might be a good idea to take a cleansing break from dairy. Here are some ways to avoid the dangers associated with cow's milk: Replace cow's milk with healthy natural substitutes: rice milk, almond milk, raw goat's milk or my favorite -- hemp milk. If you do insist on drinking cow's milk, make sure to buy only the non-genetically modified, range fed, organic raw versions. Even better, talk to your local organic farmer to make sure the cow's are treated kindly. Eat less cheese and always buy organic versions. Goat's cheese is the best for you! The farmers fatten them for beef, and the females follow the same sad fate as their mothers. Dairy Is Cruel Dairy farms are cruel places where they mistreat animals. The separation between the mother and child is traumatic. After the separation, the cows go to milking machines.They then have to milk two or more times a day. Farmers use milking regimens and drugs to force the cows to produce more milk. The milk production is an unnatural process that is cruel to animals. Cows get killed after 4-5 years when they can't perform anymore. Why Is Dairy Bad? About 75% of the world’s population is unable to digest milk. Dairy protein is the number one cause of food allergies. Milk is food for calves, not humans. The nutritional content of cow's milk is different from human milk. Cow’s milk contains almost three times more protein and four times more calcium than human milk. Milk from cows is the perfect food for calves that grow four times faster than humans do. Cow's milk is the food that the calves need at the beginning of their life when they need to grow the most. It is an ideal food to grow a calf from its 60-pound(27 kg) birth weight to a 600-pound(272 kg) young cow. Non-organic cow’s milk contains excess hormones, antibiotics, steroids, and pesticides. Cow’s milk contains over 60 different hormones even if you don't add anything to it. Both milk and meat contain IGF-1.IGF-1 stands for Insulin Growth Factor one. It is a growth hormone that turns cancer more aggressive. Estrogen in cow's milk increases your risk of cancer. It all depends on the form you’re buying it in. Ninety-five percent of the soy out there today is bad for you. Soy was a different type of soy a long time ago versus the kind of soy we eat today. Today, processed soy contains phytoestrogens, which are estrogen-mimikers in the body. If you’re a male consuming soy, it will give you feminine characteristics or if you’re a female consuming soy, it puts you at risk for breast cancer and hormone imbalance disorders. Additionally 90% of soy today is genetically modified, which kills off the good bacteria in your gut, known as probiotics. Because of the phytoestrogens and GMOs, soy can actually be extremely harmful for you. This includes soy protein, soy milk, or any other soy product. On the other hand, soy can be good for you if it’s in an organic, fermented soy form. This type of soy, also known as Natto, is loaded with probiotics, it’s non-GMO, and high in vitamin K2. The U.S. dairy industry invests millions trying to convince parents that chocolate milk is a necessary part of a child’s diet. In fact, flavored-milk sales amount to around $2.5 billion annually. However, the truth is non-organic, processed chocolate milk comes from cows that have been treated with growth hormones. Around eighty-five percent of nonorganic milk contains rGBH, which is a genetically modified synthetic growth hormone used to increase a cow’s milk production. Additionally, most chocolate milk contains low and non-fat milk, which has been found to inhibit the absorption of nutrients. While the dairy industry tries hard to make it seem that chocolate milk is a healthy choice, it is actually very harmful to your child and you. 6 Shocking Reasons To Never Give Your Child Chocolate Milk . Contains Casein The milk protein, casein, can irritate the immune system and stimulate mucus production, worsening allergy symptoms. This is why milk consumption is associated with recurrent childhood ear infections, eczema, and chronic bronchitis, asthma, and sinus conditions. Even those who are not allergic to milk and are spared digestive problems may find that symptoms related to these conditions improve when they eliminate milk and milk products. Loaded with Sugar Chocolate milk is loaded with sugar. One small carton of chocolate milk contains 30 grams of sugar. That is more than a can of soda. Sugar is extremely toxic and can cause heart disease, metabolic syndrome and cancer. Sugar causes insulin resistance, which leads to metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Additionally, recent studies funded by the American Diabetes Association have linked the consumption of food-grade carrageenan to insulin resistance and glucose intolerance in mice. Artificial Flavor Artificial flavors are made from hundreds of chemicals. Some artificial flavors use ingredients from petroleum. They can contain substances such as hydrolyzed vegetable protein or monosodium glutamate which you will not find on packages. Unfortunately, food manufacturers do not have to disclose the actual flavoring . ingredients. Does NOT Build Strong Bones BUT Depletes Calcium : Did you know that the calcium in cow’s milk is hardly absorbable by people and, and in fact, depletes calcium supplies in the bones. Amy Lanou Ph.D., nutrition director for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, D.C., states that: “The countries with the highest rates of osteoporosis are the ones where people drink the most milk and have the most calcium in their diets. The connection between calcium consumption and bone health is actually very weak, and the connection between dairy consumption and bone health is almost nonexistent.”

As more and more research is being conducted, dermatologists are seeing a link between an individual's diet and their skin concerns. Research suggests that milk, which contains hormones, is a likely source of acne in teens and adults. In this video, Joel Schlessinger MD explains why milk can cause acne and how you can avoid this issue. One glass of milk contains around 60 hormones that cows pass to the product during milking. These hormones can affect the health of your skin, causing acne, blemishes and breakouts if milk is consumed regularly. To avoid this issue, Joel Schlessinger MD recommends either stopping milk consumption or switching to almond milk, which contains no hormones. You may also switch to soy milk, although soy milk still contains a small amount of hormones. Making these changes to your diet may help reduce your acne symptoms. The question 'does milk cause acne?' is still an issue that many medical experts do not agree on, although the studies have suggested that people with a higher intake of milk often suffer from worse acne than those with a low intake. Most of the studies that were undertaken concentrated on teenagers but there have been a few studies with adults and the link between milk and adult acne. So does milk cause acne?
