[How To] Plan a Training Week (Creating a Cycling Training Plan)

06:17
How to Plan a Cycling Training Week - Creating a Cycling Training Plan Post also available at: http://tombell.co/plan-training-week/ When planning a training week, you’ll need to determine what the goal or goals are for that string of 7 days, i.e. what outcome you’re trying to achieve with it. The goal(s) will largely be informed by where you are in your overall training plan, your current fitness or how far out from your next target event you are if you’re a competitive cyclist. For example, you might have the goals of a training week be “maintain aerobic endurance” and “improve threshold power”. Or if it’s a recovery week, perhaps something like “bring down ATL by 6 points” and “work on handling skills”. Next is to identify the right workouts for the week Once you have a clear purpose set for the week, it’s then important to identify and lay out the necessary workouts that will move you towards achieving those goals. Creating a workout collection or library for yourself is a really helpful exercise here, since you don’t have to reinvent the wheel each time you come to look for workouts that develop a certain ability or physiological system. As there’s always more than one way to stress a particular ability or system, having multiple workouts at the ready is strongly advised. If you don’t already have a personal workout library, you can seek out workouts that you’ve used in the past, design a new one or use tools like Strava to search for suitable sessions that will help you achieve your weekly goals. Each time you do, you can then add these workouts into a library and name them in a way that describes their characteristics or purpose for easy identification. As an example, if one of the week’s goals is to “improve VO2Max”, you’ll want to select or design a workout that maximises time spent in Zone 5, e.g. 5-6x 4-min intervals, which you could call “4-min VO2Max Intervals”. Thirdly, you’ll need to organise the identified workouts. Once you’ve identified potential workouts that will help you achieve the week’s goal(s), it’s then a case of organising them in a way that makes best use of your time availability and that allows you to complete each workout to the highest quality. As a best practice for most athletes other than those with very little training time, a “polarised” or 90/10 split between what we might deem ‘low intensity’ and ‘high intensity’ is a good rule to follow (using a time-in-zone approach). This intensity distribution is what’s mostly commonly seen in the training of elite and world class cyclists, whether they consciously chose this distribution or not. What this means is that around 90% of the weekly training time will be below the lactate threshold or Zone 4, and around 10% of the training time will be at or above lactate threshold. This intensity distribution appears to be an optimal organisational approach that allows for long-term fitness improvement, fostering consistency and allowing enough of a balance between stressful and not-so-stressful but still purposeful training week-to-week. Of course, every week will be different depending on the set goal(s), but as a general guideline, including at least 1-2 recovery or rest days, 1-2 high intensity workouts and 3-4 longer, lower intensity workouts per week often proves to be a manageable and consistently achievable organisational approach. Triathlon Training Plan | Kickstart Your Triathlon Training | Week 1-2

05:51
The first part of GTN's 12 week triathlon training plan is here to help you train for your first event. Kickstart your training with these tips, sessions and advice on what you should do during your first two weeks of training. Subscribe to GTN: http://gtn.io/SubscribetoGTN Check out the GTN Shop: http://gtn.io/70 Swimming - Swimming tends to be the discipline that is most daunting to people, especially so if it’s new to you. Swimming is largely about technique, which is quite hard to figure out on your own. Before you teach yourself any terrible habits, a good option would be to get someone to take a look at your swimming. That can simply be a training partner, a friend, or you could actually join a local swimming or triathlon club that might have a coach. So, given the technical aspect of swimming, it is better to swim little but often to begin with. This will give you the best chance of learning any new skills. Providing you have the time to, a good starting point is to complete 2 swims per week, each of around 30-40 minutes. Cycling - To begin with, all your cycling training should be focussed on building fitness, and your confidence. Cycling is actually a very technical sport, more so than most people realise. So even if you have some cycling experience, it may well be worth spending a little time honing your skills first. Rather than heading out for rides at breakneck speeds, keep it to a conversational pace. This will allow you to build that base level of aerobic fitness and muscular strength, without overdoing it too soon. A good starting point could be two rides per week, at around 60 minutes for each. Now, it’s really important not to increase this too quickly. So we’re going to follow the 10% rule. Never go up in training distance or duration by more than 10% per week. Running - In a similar way to the cycling, all your running should just be at a steady and aerobic pace to begin with. It’s often the one that people get carried away with, and try to run too fast, too soon. And too fast, too often. If you are new to running, imply head out for a walk, and throw in the occasional 30 - 60sec easy run, and then build this up with time. Dependent on your current level of fitness and running history, we would recommend starting out with no more than 30 minute runs. In fact, my personal experience is that the little but often trick also works wonders for running. If time allows, I would recommend doing 2 easy 20-30min runs in your first week, and in the second week just step this up slightly to 30-35mins. Triathlon Training Plan | Final Training Block | Week 7-10

07:43
You are entering the final big block of training for your first triathlon! It's time to be as prepared as possible for the event - test your kit, practice running off the bike and try out your transitions. In part 4 of our ‘How To Train For Your First Triathlon’ series, we cover weeks 7-10 of your training plan. Subscribe to GTN: http://gtn.io/SubscribetoGTN Check out the GTN Shop: http://gtn.io/8q Swimming - As you near the event, the aim is to comfortably increase the length of your swimming reps. The ultimate aim being that by week 10, you are able to cover the full distance of the triathlon swim in one go. It’s also time to start thinking about open water swimming. Keeping to your two swims per week, you can simply replace one of those with an open water swim. This is also a perfect opportunity to try out any of your equipment such as a tri-suit or wetsuit. Cycling - On the bike, you want to start dialling into a pace that you know you can sustain for the triathlon. It’s very easy to get carried away on the day due to adrenaline so practicing race pace during your training rides will get you used to the effort level. You should maintain two rides per week, with the aim to start covering the distance of your triathlon on one of these rides. If you haven’t done so already, this is also a good time to do a recce/recon of the bike course. Running - Again, you want to build up to covering the distance required for your triathlon and you should aim to do this at least once before the event. One 45-60 minute run, then a 20-30minute run off the bike is a good target later in your training plan. As with the bike, it's worth dialling in your desired running pace for the triathlon. And finally, as ever, make sure you enjoy yourself 👍 If you'd like to contribute captions and video info in your language, here's the link - http://gtn.io/8p Watch more on GTN... 📹 How To Choose Your First Triathlon Event - http://gtn.io/ChooseYourFirstTriathlon 📹 How To Train For Your First Triathlon - http://gtn.io/TrainForFirstTri Music: Epidemic Sound Buzzin' With The Fuzz - Henrik Andersson Leave This World Behind (Instrumental Version) - Sebastian Forslund Satellite - Onda Norte (1) Turn Up The Love STEMS DRUMS WHAT - Aldous Young Photos: © Triathlon / Getty Images The Global Triathlon Network (GTN) is the best triathlon YouTube channel, with videos for anyone who loves triathlon: from seasoned Ironman racers to first timers – and everyone in between. Triathlon Training Plan | Taper And Race Preparation | Weeks 11-12

06:06
It is the final couple of weeks before the big day - your first triathlon. All the hard work has been done and it’s time to put those finishing touches to your training. Weeks 11-12 are about tapering and recovering so that you’re ready for the event. Subscribe to GTN: http://gtn.io/SubscribetoGTN Check out the GTN Shop: http://gtn.io/8M This is Part 5 of our ‘How To Train For Your First Triathlon’ series. With it being just 1 or 2 weeks before the race, there’s no need to continue cranking your training up. In fact, it’s time to start considering your taper and preparing yourself for race day. Hopefully by now, you will have covered the race distance continuously during your training, giving you extra confidence for the event. But if you haven’t already then don’t worry, it’s amazing what you can do on the day with some adrenaline. In terms of tapering, this essentially allows your body to absorb all the hard training you’ve been doing, and prime you for race day. This doesn’t mean kicking back and relaxing; you want to keep some intensity there to remind your body what it’s supposed to be doing, but you should drop the training volume a little whilst maintaining the number of sessions per week. This does however mean slightly shorter sessions and reducing the distance. You can break these sessions into smaller chunks, and focus a little more on the quality. This is the fun bit now, so enjoy it. Triathlon Training Plan | Increase Your Training Volume | Week 3-4

05:36
You’re a couple of weeks into training for your first triathlon and you’re over one of the toughest hurdles; starting. Now it’s time to increase the training volume, learn how to fuel on the bike and progress into weeks 3 and 4. Here is part two of our ‘How To Train For Your First Triathlon’ series. Subscribe to GTN: http://gtn.io/SubscribetoGTN Check out the GTN Shop: http://gtn.io/7u Swimming - Now that you’ve been in the pool a few times over the past couple of weeks, you’ll have hopefully started to find your feel for the water, and started getting the hang of your technique. But, don’t worry if you haven’t, swimming is a very technical sport, so don’t panic if you’re not progressing as quickly as you are with the other disciplines. Providing you’re ready to, you can start increasing the distances of our swimming. This doesn’t have to be the overall distance, but more the length of reps within the session. The idea is that you get you to a point of comfortably covering the triathlon swim distance, all in one go. You should still aim to complete 2 swims per week, but now over a duration of 40-45 minutes. Cycling - With 2 weeks of cycling under your belt, you should be ready to start increasing the duration of your rides. Try to maintain 2 rides per week, progressing them to around 75 minutes in the 3rd week, and up to 80 minutes in your 4th week. If you will struggle to fit 2 rides in then an indoor trainer can be really useful. If you’re lucky enough to have a turbo trainer at home, you can fit bike sessions in before or after work when there may be less light on the roads. Or, you could of course use a static bike at your local gym, or join a spin class for some motivation! Running - You want to progress the running in a similar way. If you’re starting out with short runs within a walk, then you can begin increasing the length of those runs ever so slightly. But if you’re already doing sustained runs, then you can push them up to around 38-40 minutes in your 3rd week, and around 40-45 minutes in your 4th week. Remember to keep them all easy and aerobic for now. Continue aiming to run twice per week. If you’re not comfortable with covering this kind of distance or duration just yet, stick with the current duration and keep the training consistent. With this increased training volume, you’ll likely be feeling quite tired and, that’s normal. Make sure that you don’t underestimate the training and how tired it can make you. It’s really important to recover well and absorb the training that you’ve done. This means fuelling well, getting enough sleep, stretching, and taking recovery days! And finally, don’t forget to enjoy yourself 👍 If you'd like to contribute captions and video info in your language, here's the link - http://gtn.io/7t Music: Epidemic Sound Watch more on GTN... 📹 How To Train For Your First Triathlon | An Introduction To Triathlon Training - http://gtn.io/TrainForFirstTri 📹 Triathlon Training Plan | Kickstart Your Triathlon Training | Week 1-2 - http://gtn.io/FirstTriWeek1-2 Photos: © Triathlon / Getty Images The Global Triathlon Network (GTN) is the best triathlon YouTube channel, with videos for anyone who loves triathlon: from seasoned Ironman racers to first timers – and everyone in between. This may be to make a cake, create a brochure, lead a tour or deal with a difficult customer. The key thing about CBT is that you either can or cannot (yet) do the thing that you are learning about. Learners are not expected to perform tasks better than others, or in competition to others. For example, there are no “extra points” for extra effort or performance. Learners simply have to demonstrate they can do a task, activity or exercise well enough to be assessed as “competent”. In other words, they must be successful at the task they are given to complete that unit of work. The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is the government agency tasked to manage and supervise technical education and skills development (TESD) in the Philippines. Role of the CBT Trainer 1. Serves as a team member to determine what is to be learned 2. Stimulates trainees‟ motivation. 3. Manages learning: a consultant rather than a provider of information; a facilitator of the learning 4. Diagnose and solves learning problems 5. Evaluates student achievement 6. Assist learners to obtain individualized rewards 7. Assist each trainee in designing a personalized plan of study. 8. Installs confidence in the learner by providing experiences where learners may succeed Role of the CBT Trainees 1. Trainees may select what to learn and when they want to learn it, within reason , how they want to learn and learn at their own pacing within program guidelines 2. Compete against present job standards (not against other students) and graded on achievement of the standards or criteria of each task. 3. Evaluate their own progress 4. Rated mainly on performance, while paper and pencil tests will be used mainly to check their knowledge of the task. 10 Principles of CBT (Competency based tRAINING) 1. The training is based on curriculum developed from the competency standards 2. Learning is competency-based or modular in structure 3. Training delivery is individualized and self-paced 4. Training is based on work that must be performed 5. Training materials are directly related to the competency standards and the curriculum 6. Assessment of learners is based in the collection of evidences of work performance based on industry or organizational required standards 7. Training is based both on and off the job components 8. Training allows Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) 9. Training allows for learners to enter and exit programs at different times and levels and to receive an award for competencies attained at any point. 10. Approved training programs are nationally accredited ORAL QUESTIONING: Why the company has a LOGO? What is a graphic design?
