Learn about Different Types of Employee Performance Evaluations How to Conduct an Employee Performance Review or Appraisal http://turnkeydoc.com/human-resources/performance-management/performance-reviews/ An employee performance appraisal, performance evaluation or performance review as it is sometimes called, is a review by a manager where the employee's work performance is evaluated and strengths and weaknesses are identified, so that the employee knows where improvement is needed. Employee performance Reviews, Appraisals and Evaluations are vital for communication. Over the years there have been some new types of performance reviews, performance evaluation, or performance appraisals that are being met with success in today's business world. These require that employee performance evaluations, performance reviews or performance appraisals be done not only for raises, promotions, or bonuses, but for an employee's growth and development. These include: Management by Objectives Review: This method, often called MBO, measures the employee's accomplishments against a clearly established set of objectives. If managers and employees begin the year by working together to list these objectives, the end-of-year performance appraisal, performance review, or performance evaluation can simply compare each goal with its final outcome. This method is simple, clear, and empowers employees in the goal setting process but it disregards non-goal-related success metrics. Ratings Scale is probably the most common review type. Using this method, a supervisor rates an employee on a numerical scale for a defined set of behaviors, traits, competencies, or completed projects. This method gains points for simplicity and functionality, but it only works well if both managers and employees share the same understanding of each point on the scale. The 360 Degree Feedback Review is a new kind of employee performance review, performance appraisal, or performance evaluation. It incorporates data from peers, supervisors and even outside parties like customers and suppliers. This broad feedback can provide a multi-dimensional picture of performance that can cancel the influence of bias. The goal is to paint an accurate picture of employee's strengths and weaknesses. Gathering feedback from multiple sources is a great way to ensure employees are rated fairly and accurately No matter which type of employee performance evaluation, performance review or performance appraisal is used, remember the goal is to foster communication between managers and employees. This lesson was done in front of participants in my education course in order to show how assistive technology can be used in the classroom to aid students with disabilities.

Emacs Org-mode - a system for note-taking and project planning
Google Tech Talks July 15, 2008 ABSTRACT Org-mode is a large Emacs sub-systems that has been integrated into Emacs with the version 22.1 release. From it original intend, Org-mode is a system for structured note-taking and project planning. It uses strictly plain text files, making it a truly portable, system-independent solution. The project-planning features are implemented using a fairly simple outlining paradigm, upon which meta-data concepts like due dates, priorities, TODO states and tags are overlayed in a non-intrusive way. Besides outlining the system and its basic concepts, I will give background information into the history of Org-mode and discuss the properties of such an evolved system compared to a top-down designed one. Finally, I will also briefly touch on some technical aspects that may be interesting for Emacs wizards and developers. Speaker: Carsten Dominik

Management accounting involves accountants partnering in decision making, devising systems for planning and performance management, and providing expertise in financial reporting and control. Management accounting is a set of tools to assist in monitoring, controlling, and rewarding an organization in support of strategy. Management accounting functions are strategic management, planning and decision-making, management and operational control, and preparation of financial statements. Cost/Management Accounting provides information for decision making and planning, assists in directing and controlling activities, motivates managers and other employees towards the organization's goals, measures performance of sub-units, programs, projects, managers, and employees, and assesses the organization's competitive position. Contemporary business drivers includes global business environment, emphasis on speed-to-market, information technology, focus on the customer, shifts in management organization, social, political and cultural considerations. Some examples of cost management techniques are the balanced scorecard, the value chain, business intelligence and data analytics, and enterprise sustainability. The value chain analysis consists of securing raw materials and other resources, research and development, product design, production, marketing, distribution, and customer service. The Balanced Scorecard translates strategy into performance measures that provide a framework for implementation. A good balanced scorecard requires senior management commitment and organization-wide communication, supports the strategy and articulates cause-and-effect relationships, requires only a reasonable number of measurable targets, motivates goal congruence, and provides alternate performance evaluation in a bad economy. Scot Faulkner: Speaker & Commentator Demo Reel
Scot Faulkner is a critically-acclaimed bestselling author and popular speaker. Mr. Faulkner is the only successful government agency turn-around expert. He has documented opportunities for cutting federal government spending and improving its operations that could realize over $487 billion in annual savings. This staggering figure is just a small sampling that is clearly outlined in official published reports, but largely ignored. Congress and the White House have been at loggerheads since the summer of 2011 over how to cut less than this amount over the next decade. Yet, fully documented by objective and government-funded inspector generals and auditors, the path to cutting well over a half a trillion a year from the budget, without any negative impact on services, is there for anyone to see and use. Building Crossplatform Mobile Apps with the Rhodes Framework
Google Tech Talks March 4, 2009 ABSTRACT Rhodes is an open source Ruby-based MVC framework for building locally executing, device-optimized mobile applications which run on all smartphone devices. It is similar concept to frameworks such as Rails, Merb and Django but is much lighterweight in order to run locally on smartphones with limited memory and resources. Rhodes is primarily targeted at applications that work with synchronized local data from server application backends, using the other source component RhoSync . Rhodes also allows you to take advantage of native device capabilities such as GPS, PIM contacts and camera. Yet the majority of your interface development is done by modifying HTML templates. Rhodes is available for iPhone, Windows Mobile and Research in Motion, Symbian and Android smartphones. In this session we'll demonstrate building a mobile app from scratch which runs on all of these devices. Rhomobile is the open mobile framework company. Our mission is to build open source components to facilitate building crossplatform mobile apps quickly and with a great user experience. Early intervention is critical for success
A lot of parents will ask me about what age is most appropriate for genetic testing and their really is no right answer for that. If there is a concern for a individual’s development, they should be tested, whether they are a few months old or an adult. However, while it is a good thing to get testing at any age, the earlier someone is tested, the greater the impact the resulting therapy will be. There are biological reasons for this, but there are also very practical reasons. For instance, one reason to get an early diagnosis is that many different states have an early intervention program if children have tested positively for global developmental delay, autism disorder spectrum (ASD), or intellectual disability. Genetic diagnosis will qualify children for early intervention programs Some states call these “Zero-to-Three” or early intervention programs and they provide developmental services that can supplement a child’s development and learning, sometimes at no cost. In many cases, a child won’t qualify for those services based solely on clinical diagnosis -- a doctor’s in-person evaluation of the child. Having a genetic diagnosis – a diagnosis provided by a genetic test -- may actually allow that child to qualify for services early, so a test result can be valuable to parents. Behavioral therapies are most effective when a child is young In addition, research has show that behavioral therapies, such as applied behavioral analysis (ABA), can really help a child overcome his or her disabilities if applied early. When children are young and in a rapid phase of development, they can really make huge improvements, sometimes 180 degree turns and learn new skills that they otherwise wouldn’t have learned. Later in life, however, it can be much more difficult to gain those new skills.

My Journey as a Nurse

No patients are portrayed in any picture: either actors or mannequins are utilized My Journey as a Nurse My journey as a nurse began as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Watching all of the nurses around me provide excellent care to their patients inspired me, and I knew that I wanted to be a nurse too. The first few pictures show me as a nervous nursing student, stressed out and questioning my every move. I graduated with two of my newest and best friends, who will be in my life forever. My first job was on a cardiac floor, where I quickly became one of the regular charge nurses. As a new nurse I was extremely task-oriented, worried about completing everything in a timely fashion but struggling to prioritize. That came quickly with becoming a charge nurse, as I now had my own duties to attend to as well as those of the rest of the floor. I was often nervous, and adjusting to the differences between clinicals and being an actual nurse. My nervousness was obvious initially, but my confidence begins to show in later pictures. After transferring down to the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, I was thrilled to discover a new side of nursing: procedural nursing. In a few short minutes, the nurse must establish rapport with a patient and family. Following, the nurse sedates the patient and monitors often-changing vital signs while coordinating with the cardiologist. I grew in my confidence as a nurse, utilizing the resources around me to ask questions and grow. Working with the cardiologists helped me realize how much I truly loved cardiac nursing. Something was missing, though. In January, I am moving to the Coronary Care unit. I love my job in the Cath Lab, and plan to continue taking emergency call overnight occasionally. The technical aspects of nursing that I enjoy are all found working in the Lab. However, I miss bedside nursing. I miss the care aspect of nursing, something that is difficult to find in procedural nursing. I will be taking care of the same patient population and working with the same doctors, but at the patient’s bedside. I am so excited to combine the two things I love most about being a cardiac nurse: high risk cardiac patients with drips, balloon pumps, and lines everywhere, and being at the bedside helping the patient and family cope with it all. After I have enough hours and time to study, I would like to become a Certified Critical Care Nurse. Maybe from there, a C2R2: our hospital’s term for a designated critical care nurse who responds to all codes and is available as a hospital-wide resource throughout the shift. Since beginning my journey to obtaining my BSN, I view my career differently. I’ve always been proud to be a nurse, but never thought of myself as a professional. After reviewing the National League for Nursing’s (2010) differences between ADN and BSN nurses, I realized that there were indeed differences between the two. I plan to get more involved in my new unit, weighing in on care issues and making a difference. I want to eventually be seen as a leader and a mentor to new nurses. I hope to someday make a difference in my community by participating in outreach programs. With this new outlook on what it means to be a professional nurse, I am looking forward to where the future leads me. *All included pictures in slideshow are either taken by myself or are stock images. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is under-diagnosed and under-treated in young children, particularly in disadvantaged populations. Children from minority and low-income populations receive referral, diagnosis and treatment later and less often, and report having less information about how to obtain care, more problems obtaining care, and fewer support services to connect them to care. This webinar will provide an overview of the Screening and Linkage to Services for Autism (SaLSA) study, which aims to evaluate an autism patient navigator program for low income families with young children who screen positive for ASD. Preliminary results of the study, including individual and system barriers to obtaining screening, referral, early intervention evaluation and services will be described.

Web sites, online videos, mobile apps, and video games have become an important way for organizations to reach audiences, deliver content, and enhance audience experiences. Mobile apps are enabling audio tours for museum audiences, video games are being used as educational tools for children and adults, and organizations rely on their Web presence for communication, marketing, ticket sales, and exhibitions. Given the increasing reliance on these electronic devices, organizations should take steps to ensure that they are accessible to all audiences, including those with vision, hearing, mobility, or cognitive disabilities. By building accessibility into the design of Web sites, mobile apps, videos, and video games, organizations can be sure that people with disabilities and older adults can access their programs, services, and features with ease. The Kitchen's Finally Burned Down: DLP Security Bakeoff  - Duo Tech Talk
Despite a plethora of data security and protection standards and certifications, companies and their systems are still leaking information like a sieve. For instance, Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solutions have often been touted as the "silver bullet" that will keep corporations from becoming the next headline. With deployment models ranging from a fat agent on an endpoint, to a blinky-lights box surveilling all network traffic, to some unified threat management gateway with DLP secret sauce, these solutions are ripe for bypass -- or worse. This talk will discuss our previous and current research into a handful of DLP solutions, including their capabilities and their shortcomings. We will demonstrate flaws in administrative and programmatic interfaces and the inspection engines themselves. Via this presentation we hope to have the audience walk away with a better understanding of the reality of certain classes of security products-- their advantages, their detriments, and whether or not they are of value to their organization. Additionally, we will detail the tools and techniques we used to discover these issues, to arm attendees with the knowledge to test these and similar products on their own. Bio: Zach Lanier is a Senior Research Scientist with Optiv, specializing in various bits of network, application, mobile, and embedded security. Prior to joining Optiv, Zach most recently served as a Senior Security Researcher with Duo Security. He has spoken at a variety of security conferences, such as Black Hat, DEFCON, CanSecWest, INFILTRATE, COUNTERMEASURE, and SummerCon, and is a co-author of the "Android Hackers' Handbook" (Wiley, 2014).
