DVT'S & ARTHRITIS- My Leech Therapy 'how to' clip 2 of 2

03:24
Sooo many people have asked about my leech therapy I decided to do a 'how to' video. I am not a medical doctor and I am not offering any medical advice...just my experience. Do not try if you have a compromised immune system, recent major surgery or are allergic to leech spit, seriously. Did you know that Medical Journals document hundreds of studies on Leech Salivary Gland Extract (spit)? Who knew. (I have read most of them). I am one year into recovery for acute, permanent, Femoral DVT's. I went from having to crawl to walking a couple of miles to getting back into doing inline skating. The biggest improvement in DVT was wrought by my first at home 'leeching' a couple of months ago. I had improvement of about 50%! from a total of 11 leeches. ALSO..was not expectiing this but my arthritis in both knees (from total knee replacements) a year before TOTALLY DISAPPEARED! Also, was not expecting this but bilateral parathesis (from the knee surgery) of the big toe improved by 50% or more. WHY DID I TRY THIS? Because the idea of being an invalid was just not in my book and my vascular surgeon said after a two week 'window' there is no safe therapy for acute FDVT's. tPA, a thrombolytic is too risky. I was desperate. HOW DOES IT WORK? Leeches are blessed with a cocktail of wonderful biopeptides. The most commonly know is Hirudin. The one I wanted is Destabilase and is specific for isopeptide bonds in organized fibrin. WHERE DO YOU PUT THEM? I personally think it doesn't matter because the superficial vein system will ultimately join with the entire veinous system but that is my assumption. I choose the ankle because I noticed that they tend to leave small 'bite' scars (like the Mercedes emblem,ha). Also I have a lot of veinous stasis in that area. ARE THERE ANY DANGERS (I asked myself) For me I have a normal immune system, and used no antibiotics. Have had no problems. DOES IT HURT? Like a mild sting at first so just deal with it. After about ten minutes that goes away. You may have some mild itching during healing. On this application I noticed no stinging at all. HOW LONG WILL THE BITE BLEED? Depends on a number of factors. For some it may be an hour and for others it may be 48 hours (like me on coumadin). Just plan on getting a little blood stain on something so don't wear your best clothes for a while, smile. IS BEING ON COUMADIN/WARFARIN A PROBLEM? I have done this while on coumadin (INR=2.8) and no problem. This time I discontinued my coumadin three days before to allow the bites to heal faster. The bleeding stopped in three hours. I will wait a couple more days before resuming my coumadin. IF IT'S SO GOOD WHY DON'T DOCTORS RECOMMEND IT? Mainly because of the "yuuch' factor, scary, and all the pharmaceutical companies can make a ton of $money off drugs and other stuff that doesn't work very well. I know. WHAT KIND OF LEECHES DO I USE? 'Hirudin Medicinalis' and they run anywhere from $8 each on up to $25. I used the $8 company. Just google for where to order. I order ten at a time to allow for a few escapees. For me that came to $105 including the special shipping thermos. WHAT DO I DO WITH LEECHES AFTER FEEDING? You can put them into a jar of rubbing alcohol to kill them if you choose. I put them into an aquarium with a few inches of water. You can reuse them in a few months. Don't use chlorinated water. Don't put new hungry leeches into the same bowl as the ones that just fed on you. Always put a very fine covering over the bowl to allow air while keeping the leeches from escaping. They like to have plenty of darkness if possible, especially the young unfed leeches. Also place a few rough, clean stones in the bowl to help them with 'molting'. You can easily waste hours watching these guys swim and play in the tank/bowl. Remember leeches have no skeleton and even a fat one can morph into a skinny fella and escape through a 1/8" opening (three did that while I was doing this video). You can watch a fat 1" long leech morph into a 6" long skinny dipper...cool. Once fed they are not going to try to feed again on you even if they escape. If the hungery ones escape they will likely die in the room shortly (mine did). WHAT ELSE ARE LEECHES USED FOR? I can only vouch for Fibrin clot reduction, Arthritis reduction, and some neurological therapy. The literature includes Lung Cancers, Diabetes, Surgery of reattaching limbs, skin disorders, antibacterial, immune disorders, fibromyalgia, macular degeneration, some viruses, relaxation, and more. WHERE CAN I GET MORE INFO? http://www.bterfoundation.org/ Also do a google search. You will find that the Russians are really the avant garde' leech specialists. Most of the tech journals are done by Russian teams. India and other countries have a great deal of learning in their Ayurvedic medicine.

Steroids Can Cause Osteoporosis in 3 Months

05:10
Glucocorticoids such as Prednisone and Prednisolone can cause osteoporosis within 3-6 months of use and lead to fractures, especially vertebral fractures. Nearly 5% of women in the US are on these drugs for a variety of conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, vasculitis, and a myriad of skin disorders. The risk is related to the dose. Preventive treatment should include calcium, protein, vitamin D, vitamin K, strontium, regular weight bearing exercise and withdrawl of smoking and alcohol. There are also many drugs that predispose to osteoporosis that should be avoided if possible that include Coumadin, Heparin, proton pump inhibitors (includes Prilosec, Protonix, Nexium, Aciphex and others), SSRI antidepressants (such as Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, etc), Avandia, Actos, and diuretics. http://www.rxwiki.com/coumadin https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXxn_pCvHVm6N7v1BzNqFYiJYYwRKymPQ Coumadin, the brand-name form of warfarin, is a prescription medication used to lower the chances of blood clots forming in your body due to various causes. Coumadin belongs to a group of drugs called anticoagulants or "blood thinners.” These help prevent blood clots from forming by decreasing the formation of substances in the blood known as clotting factors. This medication comes in tablet form taken once a day, with or without food. It is also available in an injectable form to be infused into a vein by a healthcare provider at a hospital or other medical facility. Common side effects of Coumadin are nausea, vomiting, and an altered sense of taste. Seek medical attention if you experience bruising or bleeding.

Blood Thinner Doses: Why is it Hard to Get Right After Surgery

01:31
Blood thinner doses are hard to get correct for patients. Common blood thinner medications like Warfarin or Coumadin are common, great blood thinners. Warfarin does a good job at preventing blood clots after surgery, which is why you’re on blood thinners after a hip or knee replacement in the first place. The problem with Warfarin or Coumadin is that it can be really finicky and difficult to get the dose right after surgery. Blood thinners interact with a lot of different medications and foods, making it more difficult to find the correct dose for each individual. To help get your blood thinner dose right, a relatively consistent diet is beneficial. Not changing your other list of medications too much after surgery can help stabilize your blood level. Getting your blood thinner dose right can require some adjusting after surgery. Follow-up with your care team after a surgery like a joint replacement if your blood thinner dose is not right for you in your recovery. How To Prevent Gout Naturally | How To Prevent Gout Attacks Without Medication | Gout Flare Ups

03:22
How To Prevent Gout Naturally | How To Prevent Gout Attacks Without Medication | Gout Flare Ups This weeks video idea came to me after a patient asked me what they can do, to help prevent gout attacks. Approximately 1 In 40 people In The UK Are Affected By Gout, Which Causes Sudden Attacks Of Severe Pain And Swelling In Joints. Here Are My 6 Top Tips To Help Prevent An Attack. Let's Help Those With Gout - Like, Share & Tag Friends Who Need This. Gout is in fact one of the most common forms of arthritis. We all know someone who suffers from gout so please help spread the word on this video so more people can learn how to prevent an attack. WHAT CAUSES GOUT Gout is caused by having too much of the chemical, uric acid, in your bloodstream. Uric acid is the waste product created when the body breaks down purines (a type of protein found in many foods and all of your cells). Most of the uric acid is passed out with the urine and some from the gut with the stools (faeces). In people with gout the amount of uric acid in the blood builds up. From time to time the level may become too high and tiny grit-like crystals of uric acid may form. The crystals typically collect in a joint. The crystals irritate the tissues in the joint to cause inflammation, swelling and pain - a gout attack. HOW TO PREVENT GOUT ATTACKS Lifestyle factors may reduce the risk of having gout attacks. These include losing weight (if overweight), eating a healthy diet and not drinking much alcohol or sugar-sweetened soft drinks. Feel free to watch my video for more detail. SIGNS & SYMPTOMS OF GOUT Any joint can be affected by gout, but it usually affects joints towards the ends of the limbs, such as the toes, ankles, knees and fingers. Signs and symptoms of gout include: • Severe pain in one or more joints • The joint feeling hot and very tender • Swelling in and around the affected joint • Red, shiny skin over the affected joint Symptoms develop rapidly over a few hours and typically last three to 10 days. After this time the pain should pass and the joint should return to normal. Almost everyone with gout will experience further attacks at some point, usually within a year. See your GP if you suspect you have gout and it hasn't been previously diagnosed, particularly if the pain keeps getting worse and you also have a high temperature (fever). It's important that a diagnosis is confirmed because other conditions that require urgent treatment, such as an infected joint, can sometimes cause similar symptoms. Insidermedicine In Depth - January 17, 2011 - Warfarin

02:02
Individuals taking the blood thinning drug warfarin are at increased risk of dying following a traumatic injury, according to research published online ahead of print in the Archives of Surgery. Here is some information about warfarin: • Also known under its tradename Coumadin, warfarin is an anticoagulant drug, meaning it prevents the blood from clotting • The drug can help prevent the development of life-threatening blood clots in those who are prone to them because of certain medical conditions • Warfarin can also be prescribed following major surgery, to prevent the development of blood clots during healing Researchers from Vanderbilt University Medical Center looked at the outcomes of over 1.2 million individuals who were admitted to one of over 400 American trauma centers between 2002 and 2007. The investigators analyzed whether the more than 36,000 individuals who had been taking warfarin when they were injured were more likely to die than those who were not taking the drug. After taking into account other factors that can affect one's risk of dying following an injury, such as the severity of the injury itself, those taking warfarin were found to have a 72% increased risk of death compared with those who were not taking the drug. The impact of warfarin on the risk of dying was particularly notable for younger individuals who experienced traumatic brain injury. These findings were especially concerning given that use of warfarin nearly doubled from 2002 to 2006. Today's research points out a potentially deadly downside of using warfarin, but this drug is more often life-saving than life-threatening. If you are taking warfarin and are concerned about its risks, don't stop taking the drug. Discuss your concerns with your health care professional.

Next Gen Drugs for AFib

01:38
Each year millions of Americans visit their doctor for a prescription to treat AFib. For years now, the most commonly used anticoagulant has been difficult for many to swallow. Now, a new line of drugs is proving simpler to use than Coumadin or Warfarin. “Their advantage is a reduction in the likelihood of interaction with other medications, a reduction in the likelihood of interaction with certain foods or beverages that could be problematic with Warfarin or Coumadin, and importantly, the lack of need for regular blood test to monitor the control of the anticoagulant,” says Lee Memorial Health System cardiologist, Dr. Richard Chazal. Studies find that overall, next gen drugs including the brand names Xarelto and Pradaxa were slightly more effective. “The data thus far with the newer agents compared with Coumadin has generally shown a reduction in risk of stroke, a reduction in risk of death, a reduction in risk of bleeding into the brain,” says Dr. Chazal. These new drugs are considered more patient-friendly. But there are still things to consider: they are more expensive, may increase the risk of stomach bleeding and at this point there are few options to reverse their effects if needed. However, their half life in the blood stream is only about 24 hours, so they can wear off fairly rapidly in the event of bleeding,” says Dr. Chazal. In the coming years, more people are expected to need treatment; and drugs manufacturers are keeping pace. “There’s a lot of new developments in this area that are very promising,” says Dr. Chazal. The Niacin debate: Does it help or not? History, background and current state (pardon D3/B3 blooper)

11:36
Please watch: "(905) Mitochondria: Central Role in Aging 2018 (and how to reverse it)( warning - geeky)- FORD BREWER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTKM0Lh078A --~-- Join the PrevMed Community: https://mailchi.mp/1224fb9e00e7/prevmed_community To order Niacin click on the following associate link: https://amzn.to/2MNKjs8 (We get a comission from these.) Niacin is Vitamin B3 (BOOPER ALERT - 35 SECONDS, I MISTAKENLY SAID D3 - NOT ONCE, BUT SEVERAL TIMES. I WOULD RE-TAPE IT. But too many people continue to value it.) . Along with it's partner chemical, Nicotinamide, it is the B3 complex. Niacin was discovered in the late 1800s and confirmed in the early 1900s. It was originally called "PP" factor, for Pellagra Prevention factor. Pellagra can cause severe skin disease. It also can create black tongue. This is also cured by niacin. Niacin was originally made by oxidizing NICOTINE. The similarities in these two molecules is shown in the video. It may have something to do with the far-reaching impact of nicotine. Niacin is involved in more metabolic processes (over 450) than any other vitamin cofactor. And Niacin has been found to have a positive impact on more cholesterol, lipid and cardiovascular problems than any other medicine. Debate started in 2011 with 2 studies, HPS2-THRIVE and AIM HIGH. The problem with HP2-THRIVE was lapropriant. Lapropriant was the popular medication used to stop niacin flush. Niacin flush is created by action on prostaglandin receptors. Lapropriant blocks those receptors. This receptor-blocking activity stopped the niacin flush. But it appears it also stopped the positive impact of niacin. AIM HIGH was another study that failed to show positive impact by niacin. There is a lot of debate re: the reason. It ranges from the thought that niacin doesn't work to problems with the study design. Does niacin help or not? It's still a debate. Many studies have shown that it does. A couple have shown that it does not. What do I do? I take it. 2000 mg/day. Rugby or Enduracin brands (and I have no financial relationships). Extended release. We'll cover management of flush in another video. About Dr. Brewer - Ford Brewer is a physician that started as an Emergency Doctor. Atrial fibrillation, or Afib, is an important risk factor for stroke. However, the risk can be significantly reduced with the use of medication known as blood thinners or anticoagulants. Blood thinners form the foundation for stroke prevention when a patient has Afib. In properly selected patients they are effective and easy to use. Choosing the most appropriate blood thinner requires a careful discussion with your doctor. In rare situations such as an emergency, the blood thinning effect may need to be reversed. Examples of situations include serious injury caused by a car accident or when emergency surgery is required, such as for a ruptured appendix or broken hip. There are different ways to reverse the blood thinning effect, depending on which blood thinner the patient is taking. There are many causes of stroke, but the vast majority are caused by a blood clot that interrupts blood flow to a part of the brain. This can result in a sudden loss of strength, feeling, vision or speech. These signs and symptoms can be temporary, resulting in a “mini stroke,” or transient ischemic attack (TIA), or they can result in permanent disability. Therefore, anyone experiencing the warning signs of stroke should be assessed for immediate stroke treatment at the closest emergency department. Statins: How do they really work? Inflammation

03:42
Please watch: "(905) Mitochondria: Central Role in Aging 2018 (and how to reverse it)( warning - geeky)- FORD BREWER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTKM0Lh078A --~-- Join the PrevMed Community: https://mailchi.mp/1224fb9e00e7/prevmed_community Most doctors prescribe statins to lower LDL (or "bad" cholesterol). However, that's probably not how statins prevent heart attacks and strokes. It's more likely due to an impact on cardiovascular inflammation. What is cardiovascular inflammation? Inflammation is similar whether it's causing arthritis, skin disease or inflammatory bowel disease: inflammation is the body's attempt to correct a problem. The immune system sends antibodies and immune cells. Immune cells release enzymes to "digest" tissue that should be there. In the artery wall, that tissue is plaque. Inflamed plaque is unstable. It can leak into the bloodstream and cause life-threatening clot formation. Ford Brewer is a physician that started as an Emergency Doctor. AFter seeing too many patients coming in dead from early heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. He went on the run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine at Hopkins. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His late role in this are was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has over 500 primary care/ prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. Now he's running a small start-up, Prevmed. We provide face-to-face heart attack and stroke prevention in our home location of Nashville, TN as well as several other locations. Leech Therapy.avi

12:05
Meet my bankers...well they wear pin striped suits and they can suck the blood of out any taxpayer. Seriously, I know there is a yuuch factor but just deal with it. I used these funny critters to try to dissolve some of my extensive femoral deep vein clots (FDVT). This is the latest in a series of cutting edge techniques to deal with the problems of DVTs. They are also used for many other things including arthritis, skin diseases, cardiac problems, diabetes, inflammation, varicosities, surgical uses, pain due to circulation problems, and much more. So far I feel good about all of the previous ideas I have presented. Leeches have proved to be another step in the right direction for me. MY IDEA: That leech hirudin might be able to help dissolve the connective tissue matrix (ie. an old blood clot) that forms within a DVT. After two weekends of treatments with five leeches per weekend I was able to measure a significant improvement in my inline skating. The time period to exhaustion was much longer indicating either the blood is flowing more freely or the clot was beginning to organize (opening more micro channels) significantly more. The experience was interesting. The only drawback that I see is the learning curve while you learn the art of bandaging up the leech bites. Can be a little messy until you get the hang of that. I am also on coumadin while doing this leech therapy. TIPS: 1)Leeches like to cling to anything. DO NOT try to remove them by pulling on their body. You can seriously damage their exoskeleton and they will hate you for it. 2) To remove a clinging leech use either your fingernail or a dullish knife to get under the suction cup and break the grip. 3) Take a good bath just before the leech treatment because you may not get a chance for the next few days depending on how you manage the bandages. Leeches are very sensitive to chemicals and odors on the skin. 4) Do not squeeze the leech too hard or put chemicals on him/her to remove them. They could barf back everything including some of their own stuff at you. 5) Place your leech where you can 'wear' a bandage for two or three days. Then, figure a couple or so more weeks for their tiny raised bite mark to disappear. HOW TO KEEP YOUR LEACHES AS PETS: I paid $20 for a used 10 gallon fish aquarium. Put about three inches of water (NOT chlorinated) in it and some rocks. Always add something like a clay flower pot holder. Set that on top of some stones. They love to seek a dark place out for their siestas. (There is so much contradicting info about how to keep and care for leeches...I am running some tests and will keep you updated).
