So over the last few week I've worked on a method and did a case study on how to make money on Instagram. The results were very good for the short amount of time. I came across a forum thread where a guy made over $100,000 from doing the same thing, on a larger scale of course. Once I had over 2000 followers I created a landing page and found some affiliate networks to use. I then upload and image telling the followers to click the link in my Instagram profile. Once they click the link I collect their e-mail and they get directed to the affiliate website, this is where I make the money. I get a commission of 7% when someone buys a product from the website I directed them to. I also now have that person on my e-mail list, they become my customer. In the future is I was to make money from Instagram I can advertise on my account more or just send out an e=mail. How easy is that? I use get response to collect my e-mails. You want to choose a passionate niche so you have buyers, without this it won't work. You could also expand this to other social media networks, you can get bots for them as well. It's also a good idea to stay clean and don't spam! All I do is upload an image with a sales pitch once or twice a day for about 2 hours then delete it. You can find software or website when you can automate this. With the bot and auto posting software this really is a fully automatic way to make some cash on social media. You can even sell shoutouts to maximize profits. It seems amazing that they’ve been able to pull that off without marketing, but Elon Musk’s explanation for their success is simple: a relentless focus on making the highest-quality cars possible. The vast majority of Tesla’s budget (and about 70% of Musk’s time and energy as CEO) is devoted to research and development. Musk only spends 2 to 3% of his time talking to the press, with plans to cut it down to 1% so he can free up time for – you guessed it! – more focus on engineering and design. Marketing done right can be extremely powerful; I’m not saying it has no place in your business model. The vast majority of us don’t have Elon Musk-level capital to fund our businesses and get them off the ground. But if it comes down to a choice between more marketing for a mediocre product, or money money spent improving product quality, I’d choose quality every time. In one of our video marketing campaigns we wanted to fill up an open day in our studio with people considering our services. Our target was a meeting every hour for 8 hours. 2. Planning Once you know your mission, planning is simply a case of identifying the best tools for the job. In our example we decided that a Mail Chimp campaign was the best tool because it allowed us to target only the people we had connected with personally. We decided to use all the business cards we had accumulated over a 4 month period of networking. 3. Execution All the best laid plans have to be executed, theres is no point in coming up with a video marketing strategy if you’re not going to do it. The only way to know if it’s going to work is to take the plunge and get on with it. We decided to deploy a CRM to keep all the data in one place for other campaigns. We used Capsule mainly because it had the easiest interface but also because any data we entered could be swiftly integrated with Mail Chimp. It took half a day to enter the details of several hundred cards on to our CRM and then we tagged them for this campaign and sent them across to Mail Chimp. An unexpected bonus was that once we’d turned all the cards into data we could safely throw away all those cards. We then shot our video. We know that much of our appeal as a filmmaking team is that we can inform and entertain at the same time so we decided to invite our prospects into the process of emailing them. We made a video provocatively called; ‘We just threw away your business card.’ We made our template, connected it to our list of 198 contacts and hit the big send button. If there is no opportunity to see the impact of your marketing, how will you know what’s working? In our example we had the benefit of both Mail Chimp’s and Wistia’s stats. Follow up Armed with this information we followed up with only those who has clicked on the video, knowing that the engagement was very high. This meant they were interested in the information. 30 phone calls resulted in 8 meetings. Exactly on target as it turns out, an unexpected bit of serendipity. Because we’d qualified so carefully and pre- framed our meeting with a video, our meetings were held at a very advanced level of consideration by prospects. Transcript: My recent conversation with Bill Strong was a goldmine of wisdom from a true value investor. Do you feel that, I have long believed that the point of the cycle where we enter this industry will shape your career, shape your way of thinking, you came into this industry at the worst time for the industry, perhaps, but to my mind arguably the best time to come in to learn to be an investor. Did you feel that at the time, or, We knew that this wasn't going to last therefore the valuations that we saw we knew this was a good opportunity to get in and so in that sense it wasn't a bad time, I didn't really suffer and mean the bond experience was moderately painful but the stock experience wasn't bad I will give you an example of one of the things that we were able to do in that period of time. Going back to business school and this kind of ties into the other things I want to touch on today, going back to business school we had a case in my last semester there on the public offering of Drivis Corporation, you know Drivis was a mutual fund management company, so Drivis, Jack Drivis started the company in the early 60's and had had some success in marketing it and raising money to put in his mutual fund and the company had grown and as you may know that investment management businesses may be the very best business anytime because there is no capital, the returns on capital are huge, that's one of the reasons why I like to be in this business and so this was a great business in itsself but Jack Drivis has also had the good sense to own a business that, I don't know the process by which it came, a business that came by duplicating paper copies of things whole ographic, a company called Xerox and he bought it in 1962 or something so he had this mutual fund that had Xerox in it and it was doing really well plus he was one of the first people to start advertising and so this business did extremely well, I don't know the numbers but the earnings just went way up. So by 1967 when we were in this speculative space and last phases of the bull market, Jack Drivis has the good sense to sell his company, he sold the whole thing took it public took his cheque and went to the beach. This was a case we had in business school and I came away from that case with the idea that one of the things that really can give you really good returns is alignment or layer or whatever to call it, but when you have compounding good things happening with your business and get a valuation increase on top of all that, so this is one of the things we kind of look for to see if we can see if we can get several positive trends together and then exploit the valuation anomalies in the market. This was a case, and it made a real impression on me because this had been such a success and I also was interested in the industry and the business so fast forward to 1979 and I am sitting at the breakfast table one day and I am looking in the newspaper and I read an advertisement for a new product from Drivis Corporation and it was a mutual fund of money marketing instruments, Ok well I didn't even know you could do that, you know they had banker CV's, treasury bills, bankers exempt. So I am looking at this thing and you know the yield is 20%, this is a mutual fund that is giving you a guaranteed 20% a year. Wow that's pretty, so I start doing some work on it and sure enough they just invented this product not long ago and it's taking off for obvious reasons people had their money in a savings account or whatever this was a way they could put their money to work at 20% with no risk. So this product was just booming, plus on top of that this product even if you didn't get new money in it was compounding it at 20% all by its self. So it was reasonably small just to start within Drivis but it was growing like crazy.

If you need a reminder about the story unfolding, here's Complex Style's associate editor Karizza Sanchez: In 1994, James Jebbia opened the first Supreme location in a small storefront on Lafayette Street in New York. At the time, Supreme was a brand for skaters by skaters—even the design for the shop was more open so skaters could come right in with their skateboards. But today, 21 years later, Supreme is a legendary streetwear brand that’s cultivated a cult following well beyond that original fan base. Continuing to release product in tightly controlled, limited amounts, the brand is as big as it wants to be in New York, Los Angeles, and London; a titan in Japan—arguably its largest market. Complex has covered Supreme for well over a decade (Complex was founded in 2002). Most of it was from afar; we wrote about releases or lookbooks. But for the last year or so, our Complex News team has been reporting from the Lafayette Street shop to cover in-store launches. Every story was the same: Lines snaked around the block, kids camped out for hours or days, sometimes even in subfreezing temperatures, just to get any Supreme item. Each Thursday drop was chaos. In April 2014, the NYPD canceled the Supreme x Nike Air Foamposite One in-store launch at the NYC flagship after a riot nearly broke out earlier that day. But there was something much bigger here. We learned that many were in line to purchase gear that they’d later flip online for big profits, selling apparel and other items for as much as 1,200 percent above retail value. “We started to get to know these people and realized there was a business here and real money to be made,” explains Emily Oberg, Complex Editorial Producer and one of the directors of this documentary. While the reselling market is hardly new, and people have been selling Supreme online for years, it’s yet to be the focus of serious investigation—until now.
