Imagine a sharp sculpting tool hooked up to your computer or laptop. It moves from front to back, left to right and up and down depending on what the computer commands it.
►The mechanism is so simple you can put it together by yourself in no time. Usually woodcarving machines like the Smart Saw cost tens of thousands of dollars. But if you follow simple "step by step" guides and plans, you'll build a DIY Smart Saw right from the first try even if you never held a hammer before.
►The Smart Saw contains 3 versions. Hobby version, Desktop version and XXL version:
The Hobby version has a material workspace defined by the design. Therefore, without any expansion of the workspace, the basic limit to the size of a material object it can work on is:
✔Smart Saw Hobby Version:
Working area: L (X Axis)= 372mm (1ft 2 41/64"); l (Y Axis)= 385 (1ft 3 5/32"); h (Z Axis)= 135mm (5 5/16")
Dimensions of the entire machine: Lenght= 1100mm (3 ft. 7 5/16 "); Width= 740mm (2 ft 5 9/64"); Hight= 1593mm (5 ft 2 23/32")
✔Smart Saw Desktop Version:
Working area: L (X Axis) = 215.9mm (8 1/2”); l (Y Axis) = 190.5mm (7 1/2”); h (Z Axis) = 76.2mm (3”)
Dimensions of the entire machine: Width: 254mm (10”); Lenght: 457.2mm (1ft 6”); Hight: 355.6mm (1ft 2”)
The XXL version also has a material workspace defined by the design. Therefore, without any expansion of the workspace, the basic limit to the size of a material object it can work on is:
✔Smart Saw XXL Version:
Working area: L (X Axis) = 2500mm (8ft 2 27/64"); l (Y Axis) = 2000mm (6ft 6 47/64"); h (Z Axis) = 350mm (1ft 1 25/32")
Dimensions of the entire machine: Width: 2400mm (7ft 10 31/64”); Lenght: 3500mm (11ft 5 51/64”); Hight: 1695mm (5ft 6 47/64”)
These dimensions represent the extents of a workspace allowed by clearance of the axes.
In the modifications section of the included manual, you will find directions for modifying this workspace within the existing design, as well as for expanding the workspace through expansion of the DIY Smart Saw chassis dimensions.
►Got Questions? We Have the Answers:
Q: What type of computer do I need to operate a Smart Saw?
A: The Smart Saw works on any kind of computer. You can also use a laptop.
If you can connect it to the internet, then you can operate a CNC machine. It doesn't matter if it's an Apple, a Microsoft computer, a Linux, etc.
Q: How much does it cost to build a Smart Saw?
A: The Smart Saw you'll see in the video cost only $500. That's because all the parts were brand new. You can actually put one together for under $160. It all depends on how much you want to spend on your parts. You can even make it from scraps using printer motors and old car parts.
Q: How quickly will I learn to use it?
A: Just watch a 10-minute video once and you'll be able to carve out your design. You can learn to use the Smart Saw in no time. The time it takes for you to draw up your design however... will vary.
Q: Will I need any tools?
A: Right from the very start of the program you'll see a complete list of tools you'll need to put together the Smart Saw. However, you'll never have to use any tools to carve out your designs if you use the Smart Saw. All you have to do is push a button and your design will come out in a couple of minutes.
